Title: Who to start 2011
Post by: Diomedes on September 08, 2011, 11:58:18 AM
Trying to decide on flex starter for week one:

Cedric Benson @ CLE
Marshawn Lynch @ SF
Tim Hightower vs. NYG
Reggie Bush vs. NE
Lee Evans vs. PIT

Who would you start and why?
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: PoopyfaceMcGee on September 08, 2011, 12:17:17 PM
Hightower. Giants are banged up on defense, and you may not get nearly as much use out of him later in the season as Shanahan shuttles backs in and out of his favored rotation.

Bush and Evans are viable options, especially if you are in a PPR league. Would stay away from Benson and Lynch for now.
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: Diomedes on September 08, 2011, 12:50:41 PM
Thanks.

I'm divided between Hightower and Bush.  Evans is only a couple days removed from wearing a boot so I'm going to wait on him.  I think you're probably right that Hightower is the best bet.
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: ice grillin you on September 08, 2011, 01:02:13 PM
if its not a ppr league then you can make the argument that bush shouldnt even be on a team in your league much less getting a starting nod

if it is ppr id go with evans

hightower lynch are identical options....both going against teams they could be successful against but both playing on teams who have horrendous qb's that will be facing 8 men in the box and an opponent who will be daring them to win the game

benson isnt an option as cincy is a complete and utter mess
Title: Re: Who to start 2011

It is not a PPR league.

So...you agree:  Hightower?
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: phattymatty on September 08, 2011, 01:30:47 PM
which is why benson will have a 1,000+ yard year. it will take him 600 carries but he'll get it.
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: Diomedes on September 08, 2011, 01:34:20 PM
Benson is their only option and they are his only option.  He'll get the ball a lot and once in a while, he'll do something with it.  Simple law of averages dictates that he's a good backup and flex player depending on the situation.

He's gonna win a few fantasy matchups for people this year.

Flex Spot, 1 bonus point for every 5 catches.

Joseph Addai @HOU
Jeremy Maclin @STL
Delone Carter @HOU

Threw in Carter just because...I think it's really between the other two guys right now.

Other money league, PPR, pick my #3 WR between...

Mike Thomas vs TEN
Sidney Rice @SF
Antonio Brown @ BAL
Deion Branch @ MIA

Rice looks like might not play, but not sure what to do with the other guys. Thomas' stock drops a little with Garrard getting cut.

Play Felix. Cowboys have a chance to win if he gets going but will likely lose ugly if he's shut down.

Plax, Crabtree, Lee Evans, Maclin, Eagles Steve Smith.

I want to start Smith but have Maclin in there as of now.

I'd start Green also, wouldn't start any of that group against the Jets defense. Seems a coin toss between Lynch and Spiller, I'd go with Spiller.

Green and Lynch.   The latter is his team's only hope, right?  I try to avoid having both my RBs from the same matchup.

Go with Maclin.  And then trade one of the Eagles receivers asap...otherwise you'll drive yourself nuts all year playing the wrong one each week.

im confused as to why you would start smith over any of these guys much less mack....mack is the eagles #1 or 2 wr smith is at best the #4 wr....hes also coming off the injury....in fact has it even been said by anyone that he will play today...i know hes not on the injury report and HE says he will play but who knows how many snaps hes going to get...to me smith sits on your bench until he produces...right now hes a complete unknown

if mack himself wasnt coming off his aids scare hed be the pick....even now i think thats who id go with altho you could concievably go with any of them cept ss....id be tempted to take a flyer on plax for his upside...if nothing else for the td's....i could see him having three catches and two touchdowns...

im assuming this is your last spot on your team to fill....which is a place where you can take a chance on someone....its not like these guys are your number one wr's

And didn't you see what Baltimore did to the Steelers last week?  CJ's the only option in CAR, he'll be mauled.

although Jarvus is a nice bet to score inside 5-10 yds on any given week Brady still loves the pass inside that distance making him a toss up.

No way I chance LT esp playing predominantly as a 3rd down back. Its all about touches. Greene will be fed the rock more and more each game and as the season goes and is the goaline back.

Same with Starks over Grant--not to mention Starks is beasting it right now and can get the yards and TD's--espec against Car.

I go Starks.
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: PoopyfaceMcGee on September 15, 2011, 06:31:06 AM
This one is tricky... It's in a PPR league that also gives 1 point for every 15 points of receiving yardage. Which one of these douches gets the start?

Devin Hester
Antonio Brown
Percy Harvin
Randall Cobb

I planned to keep Harvin and Cobb on the bench for sure, watching whether the loser QB in Minnesota can actually get Harvin the ball and whether Cobb's week 1 was a fluke. Hester is my tentative choice, but I saw that Antonio Brown actually had 9 targets last week - that said he only had two catches and they were playing from behind the whole game. So... Hester?

don't over think it. LT should never ever ever be started above CJ, regardless of the defenses.

also i went 0-3 in fantasy leagues over the weekend so don't listen to me. i left 92 points on the bench in one of them.

I have LT and a buddy will give up brandon lloyd. Is this a good trade? LT rides the bench on my team. I was starting Kenny Britt.

I also have a feeler out...LT for Steve Smith (Car).

Are both good trades? I start Chris Johnson, MJD, and Peyton Hillis.

Which trade is better?

Steve Smith is the better trade.  Lloyd is not 100% and Decker is getting way more looks than he is.

caveat:  I'm a Lloyd owner in our Keeper league and not very happy about that decision.

I need to pick exactly four of these guys to start in a 14-team non-PPR this weekend:

Steve Smith (CAR) at CHI
Devery Henderson at JAX
Deion Branch at OAK
James Starks vs DEN
Mike Thomas vs NO
Mike Williams (TB) vs IND
Knowshon Moreno at GB

f if I know...depends who each of them is facing, whether at home or away...etc.

kneejerk:

Smith
Henderson
Thomas
Williams
Title: Re: Who to start 2011

just updated with opponents...

Grant may be out, so even with Starks' bad day Sunday, I'd definitely start him with Grant out
Not really even considering Moreno
Colston may be back for Sunday's game, which hurts Henderson

Pretty sure Smith, Thomas, and Williams are in... but might start Branch over Henderson and would start Starks over Branch if Grant's out.

I want to bench Williams, but I have a hunch that he's due. </major league>

I also have Williams and have played him the last 2 weeks and got about 4 points total from him.  Indy should be a good matchup him but I like the Starks match up (who I also have) and that's the direction I'm leaning towards right now.

Monterio Hardesty @ SF (#1 vs. RBs so far this year)
or
Marshawn Lynch vs. CIN (#7 vs. RBs so far this year)

Hillis is out, so Hardesty should get the ball a lot.  Lynch farged me last week, pulling up lame at 12:59:59 p.m. and being scratched from the game on back spasms.  Whatever the farg that means.  Son of a bitch.

Anyway, what say you sages?
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: hbionic on October 30, 2011, 11:01:12 AM
Hardesty. Who else is getting the ball in that offense?

Seattle is as predictable as the weekly lottery numbers. That being said, Lynch has the higher capacity of doing unpredictable shtein week to week and may blow up for 30 pts out of nowhere because Seattle had some major god intervention.

Hardesty is probably the more conservative bet, knowing that you probably won't get many points, Marshawn lynch is that firebet, but most likely won't pan out.

That's my underinformed take.

Hardesty will probably be carrying the ball all 4 qtrs because I think that will be a close game.

Lynch might get carries for the first half but I think Seattle abandons the run as they fall behind.

Hardesty.

I just beat him thanks to the Bears D, and I moved up to 5th place at 6-4, he's now 6-4, I don't know how...but Peyton Hillis is a fargtard, and Torrey Smith is up and down. Victor Cruz has been a nice pickup after I lost Kenny Britt. Looks like SF might have a tougher schedule than J-Ville. San Diego I imagine will be battling out for a playoff spot. I'm tempted to do it. MJD is a consistent 10-14 pts.

My Team                              His Team

Eli Manning                           Ryan Fitzpatrick

Torrey Smith                         Mike Wallace
Victor Cruz                            Wes Welker

Pick 2 out of these 3 guys...bonus point for every 5 catches

Larry Fitzgerald vs. SF
Jeremy Maclin vs. MIA
Antonio Brown vs CLE

Playoffs start this week. Brown has been a good pick up for me this year, but CLE is surprisingly the #1 defense against fantasy WR's. Fitz has been bleh and is facing a good SF defense...and Maclin is coming back from injury. :boom
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: Sgt PSN on December 06, 2011, 02:45:38 PM
I'd go Fitz and Brown. Fitz is must start regardless of the defense or his QB.

Brown doesn't get alot of catches, but he does get pretty big ypc and is a threat to score.  Do you get pr/kr yds too?

If Maclin weren't coming off injury then I'd probably start him over Brown but his health is a bit of a concern right now.

Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: Munson on December 06, 2011, 02:49:32 PM
no pr/kr yards, but return TD's count :yay

that's what I was leaning towards doing...I've just been so disappointed with Fitz this year. Kolb just needs to do what Skelton was doing and launching it as high as he can in the air and let Fitzgerald do the rest
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: Sgt PSN on December 06, 2011, 02:56:13 PM
The important thing for you is to not get caught up on the bonus point for every 5 catches. Go with the 2 guys who are most likely to get big yards and find the endzone.

piggybacking off what matty was saying about how weird this year has been

me matty and sunny are in a league together and the first place team who is 11-2 with no one else right now even within one game of him somehow has the seventh most total pts in the league (10 teams)
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: Sgt PSN on December 06, 2011, 05:24:44 PM
FF is stupid like that sometimes. I played in a league a few years ago where I was the highest scoring team in the league and missed the playoffs. 10 team league and I out scored the next highest scoring team by almost 300 pts. So while my team was constantly scoring about 125 pts each week, my opponents were having thier best week of the year against me.  Sometimes FF makes no sense.
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: ice grillin you on December 06, 2011, 07:04:05 PM
weve never had anything close to that happening before...weve had teams tied where one had way more pts...or like you said a team with a lot of pts missing the playoffs....but never an 11-2 team having the 7th most pts

The first three are the ones I'm currently starting.

Unless Barber is really in the doghouse after last week, I'd say you've got it right. Thomas is facing an awful NE D but Tebow is way too inconsistent to be trusted IMO

For me, same shtein as last week...

Ben Tate being 2nd fiddle agains the terrible Carolina run D
Donald Brown now getting the lions share of carries against the also not so good Tennessee D

Also same league...

Houston D vs Carolina and Cam Newton
Giants D vs. Washington

Robbie Gould vs. SEA
Mike Nugent @ STL

Kickers aren't usually a big deal but I need any advantage I can get, and Chicago's offense is so bad now

Does big ben officially being out mean I start Maclin over Antonio Brown now? Or does that hurt mike wallace more then brown?

with Forte and Barber both out, my options are:

pick three
Ray Rice v. Browns
Marshawn Lynch v. 49ers
Cedric Benson v. Cards
CJ Spiller v. Broncos

right now Lynch is the odd man out.

The way the 49ers D has been playing, he has to be.

Now help me out, man!

Keep it that way.

I have the same problem with Brown.  I'm contemplating moving Torrey Smith from my flex spot to the WR spot, benching Brown and then playing Ryan Grant in the flex position.  I'm leaning towards leaving Brown in because the match up vs StL is buttery regardless who the QB is.  Plus, Brown gets return yards as well so he doesn't have to rely on the QB to get him the ball in order to have a big play.

We don't get yardage credit but do get return TD credit.....the rams are soooo bad...but the Eagles/Cowboys game could turn into a shootout...etc...

farg me.

The way things are looking for me so far, I should have put Gerhart somewhere in my lineup.

Cedric Benson is working out great for me. -1 points.

No way Lynch does worse.

The guy i'm playing has Tom Brady, and wards 6 points for rushing TD's vs 4 points for passing TD's.

A league where my commissioner thinks ESPN standard scoring is super duper because he's a farging retard
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: Sgt PSN on December 24, 2011, 04:27:47 PM
That's standard on ESPN?  I played an ESPN league a few years ago with custom scoring, but I thought their interface was flat out terrible.  Won't use them again.
Title: Re: Who to start 2011
Post by: Munson on December 24, 2011, 04:30:19 PM
it's standard on yahoo too, I have no idea why. I think because QB's tend to get overvalued since they score so many TD's, but whatever.

Dude still has Shady and a button of other players to go, the Eagles farging suck, the Jets farging suck, merry farging christmas

Oh, didn't realize that was standard on yahoo as well.  Still, ESPN's fantasy site was crowded and didn't seem very user friendly.  Yahoo is clean and simple.  It's probably the one thing they do well.

Glad I went with Maclin...I love you Dio...can I call you Holy Diver?

The commish, who assembled a super team through trades and lost to me in the first round of the playoffs after his team put up a stinker, is bitching and whining all over the place now because me and the guy playing in the chip are both putting up low point totals so far. says he wants to go to roto format next year and blah blah blah....if i didn't like all the guys in the league I'd farging quit, so sick of his power trip shtein.

colston (16.24) should have overcome the 8.09 difference even with charles tillman scoring 6 pts but somehow matty won 139.30 to 138.95

i guess it was due to some yahoo score re-adjusting this week

best final ever

yeah i've noticed that the defensive numbers change almost every time the next morning by a point or two...i somehow went from 127 to 139 overnight on christmas eve.

i watched the first half and after colston got the TD decided i'd just switch to the sixers and be surprised this morning.

surprise.

he was in two finals and had colston in one and was going against him in the other....he was of course going doomsday scenario saying he would lose both and im like thats impossible if colston blows up you win our league and if he doesnt you win the other league....hes like yeah i guess....i dont know what happened in his other final but colston blew up for him in our league and he still lost....so he actually might have lost both which would pretty much be the funniest thing ever

lost $200 in IGY's league this year ($150 buy-in + $50 last place penalty)

lost $175 in my other league where the money won/lost depends on your scoring throughout the year.  at least that's a keeper league and i get first pick next year.

all in all, not a great fantasy football season for this guy
