Cedric Thorton should be the one shteinting. He got released to make room.

I was going to say DeVan is packed and ready to roll.

But I won't.

Probably an instant upgrade over Watkins' clueless shuffle out there.

Yeah I have a feeling we won't see Watkins starting until at least after the bye.

The sad part is that the Nick Cole/McGlynn/Jean-Gilles/Justice right side might have been even worse than the Mathis/Kelce/DeVan combo now in the middle. The line was abhorrent last year and should only be mildly nauseating this year.

What would make you think this line is better?  :-D Worst oline since Reid started

Yeah yeah Freddie your shtick is a little old. Just prove me wrong, argue the fact or offer your opinion without the childish name calling. Its been getting old for about the past 5 years now.

The oline is shtein and it was shtein last year. I think it's funny because Reid always built this team from the O and D lines on down, and it was a huge part of his success in the early years. Now he's abandoned it. Call is desperation, I don't really understand. Its a shame because you got all the offensive play makers you can ask for now, but with below average protection. Its infuriating.

Oh but don't let me ruin your dreams for the championship this year. It's just my opinion.

You know, I can't help but think the o-line would be in pretty good shape right now if Andrews hadn't turned out to be a headcase.

I'd take a retired Runyan and Hank Fraley at this point
Title: Re: Kyle DeVan, Philadelphia Eagle

I hear Fraley's available.

Fraley is still playing, wow

You don't deserve this effort, but here it is anyway:

Peters and Herremans are the same guys - Herremans is in a different spot but he was drafted as a tackle.
Jean-Gilles couldn't stick with the Bengals.
McGlynn couldn't beat out Julian Vandervelde.
Nick Cole didn't even have offers.
Winston Justice and Jamaal Jackson are available to play but aren't considered to be the best available options.

So, if you want to argue that you assume Evan Mathis, Jason Kelce, and Kyle DeVan/Danny Watkins are worse than the guys they had in there last year? How about you provide us with your analysis of their play? I do assume you've watched plenty of film.

What I have seen so far is piss poor. I know its not a fair assumption and even the starters have been in question up to this point but they are a below average o-line at best. Lord prove me wrong, I hope it all works out.

I can't help but think that GF is right about this line still recovering from losing Andrews.

It's hard to tell about the o-line from a few preseason games, but with the way things are getting shuffled around it doesn't look good. We're gonna' find out soon enough, and really, I don't think they can be any worse than last year. It's gonna' take a few games before you can really tell anything.

No clue but I had no idea this dude was starting until today.  Not a good sign for Watkins.

Agreed.  Not a good sign at all.

But to be fair, most rookies would not be expected to start straight away.  We bought the FO's bullshtein about instant starter, which is why it seems like such a disaster.   Maybe the guy will work out given some time.

it was more than the front office...it was many pundits and fans....hell most people on this board whenever i would kill the team for the watkins pick and the line in general would point to watkins as proof the team improved the OL

100% he was expected to start from day one....it wasnt like he was attempting to replace jahri evans

How about we see them play a few games before anointing them the worst offensive line in history?

That seems like a bit much to ask, bro.

i know you homers dont like reading other peoples posts before responding...but i said on paper its arguably the worst Oline in the nfl right now....which is exactly what a superbowl favorite should be going into the season with

but hey if you are a banner inc suckler and believe that the magic dust can turn kyle devan evan mathis danny watkins and co into a good oline then more power to ya

Nice use of text formatting!

Anyway, I'll say it again: The line was horrendous last year. The main culprits are either without work (MJG, Cole), backups (Justice), or backups on another team (McGlynn). If Kelce sucks balls, Jackson will be plugged in. Peters and Herremans should be no worse than average as the tackle tandem, and excellent (but probably slightly overrated) OL coach Mudd believes Mathis and DeVan give them the best chance to win opening day. If not the not-quite-ready-for-the-NFL rookie will get another shot at it. You want to say that they're the worst on paper, fine. But they're no worse than last year, and other parts of the team are significantly better.

I still wouldn't put smart money on the Eagles to win the Super Bowl over teams like the Packers and Falcons/Saints, but they're right up there and have as good a chance as any of the aforementioned teams to peak around playoff time. Haters gonna hate.

i dont know how you couldnt see them possibly being worse than last year....and just the fact that they could be is beyond inexcusable

you see howard mudd as a savoir i see him as a product of peyton manning getting rid of the ball faster and knowing his offense better than any qb in nfl history....but im sure howard mudd is what made that oline look good

btw how dumb of a decision is it to start kelce this week in a dome where no one will be able to hear each other...in the chaos of what will go on sunday wouldnt you want your veteran center inbtwn the two blocking sleds they have at guard?

i also cringe to see herremans this week having to react off a silent count out on the edge...hes not quick to begin with

andy better have a fabulous gameplan (which i dont put past him at all) in order to win this game

excellent and overrated dont compute....the overrated was thrown in there merely as an attempt to temper his homerism

in fact what does slightly overrated excellent mean
