Title: App thread
Post by: reese125 on April 04, 2011, 10:11:59 AM
Thank Sarge for this thread. That little radio app he posted was a dime piece that I never even knew about. Way too many friggin apps to choose from-post the good ones here.

If you take pics with your phone-which I'm sure you do- you got to get the Camera+ app. Out of the 4 I tried and deleted this one is tops. Shtein is lightning taking pics with very good quality and editing if necessary.

i downloaded an awesome real estate app for my ipad over the weekend - trulia. you input your desired location and price and it gives you an aerial shot of all homes that fit your criteria. its great because you dont need to google what kind of street "main street" is on or if its backed onto a highway, etc.  ive been looking to buy a house for about a year now and a big reason i have yet to get real serious about it is because all the real estate websites are all the same..this app makes it almost fun.

Another good one is padmapper.  Works in conjunction and Zillow, so when you put in your search criteria, it pulls up the map of the area and drops pins on each place that matches your description.  Tap on the pin and you get the mls listing.  Also gives you info that a lot of realtor sites don't, such as the original sale price of the home was when it was built, what the most recent sale price of the home was, the high/low market value and most importantly (imo), how long the home has been on the market.  That's awesome because I've bought 3 homes over the years and when I'd ask the agent how long the place has been available I always got "I'll have to check and get back with you" or some shady shtein like that.  Knowing how long it's been sitting is a great buyer's advantage because if it's been sitting for 6 months, you know you can talk the owners down a little more than they really want to go.

this thread (i forgot about the other one) was actually timed perfectly. i bought my ipad ove rthe summer but didnt really start using it aside from web browsing till this week. i spent a lot of this weekend getting apps, exploring the thing, etc..

sarge - trulia does a lot of what you say padmapper does. ill def give that one a shot too though.

Padmapper sucks on ipad though because it's only designed for iphone, so if you install it on ipad it will only show up in this little tiny box on your screen and if you blow it up to fit ipad screen, everything will be fuzzy and distorted.

iPad's been out over a year now and it really pisses me off that some of my favorite iPhone apps are not yet available for iPad.  Stupid app developers.

I've got iGun lite on my phone and it doesn't shoot real bullets.  That mall cop must have had the paid version.

Terra Web Browser - Free app that gives you an alternate to the Safari browser on iPad.  2 notable differences.

1.  Enables Flash.
2.  Allows tabbed browsing.

It's a little buggy and crashes on occasion, but the fact that it's free and that you can view sites that require Flash more than make up for it.

ESPN blows, but now they blow extra hard. When I got my iPhone 2 years ago I paid like $3 for ESPNRadio. No big deal. Now they've done a fairly big overhaul on the app and starting on (I think) Aug 1, they will charge like $8 for the app, regardless of whether you previously paid for the app or not. Farg them.

I've never really had a problem with the app.  Granted, I don't listen to it every day, but overall I have little comlplaint with the functionality of it.  I'm just pissed that they want to charge the same price to current paid users as they do for new users.  At the very least, they should charge current users $2.99 less than new users.  I still wouldn't pay it, but it would at least be the right thing to do imo.
