NEW YORK (AP) - A trustee trying to recover money for victims of disgraced financier Bernard Madoff is demanding $300 million from the partnership that owns the Mets, which he says were fake profits from the massive fraud, according to a lawsuit unsealed Friday.
pitchers and catchers report to port saint lucie on the 13th!!
As much as I hate the Mets that's a crock of shtein.
im sure all the people who lost everything they own while the mets continously somehow caked off agree with you
and inf act the mets directly took other peoples money to run their team
Unless the Mets owners were a party to Madoff's crimes then all they were was fortunate beneficiaries. The same goes for anyone who "sells high" before the bottom falls out.
thats actually not true at all...if you receive money that wasnt yours you give it back...they are only taking the mets false profits not penalizing them anything above and beyond that....just as they have done to numerous other investors in the scheme...had the mets lost money and someone else made a gazillion dollars the mets would get money returned to them
it was an illegal operation you cant make money off that...especially when you are taking it from other people part of the pie
so wait, will jose reyes be able to buy his lube now?
His tranny hookers prefer it raw anyway.

Tell that to the people who made fortunes on Wall Street doing the exact same thing.
im not saying it doesnt happen but if the jig is up and shtein gets exposed you gotta pay your profits back
Again - if they profited directly from his scheme and were willing partners in it, then yeah, they would be up the creek. But that's what's being argued about now, and the fact is, the only reason the lawyers got involved is because they saw dollar signs. What's going to happen is they aren't going to have to give up a dime of what they made as a result of the scheme because they weren't co-conspirators.
the mets clearly were in cahoots and knew what was going on (as did many other investors)...but even if they werent a judge has already ruled that you must pay back any profits earned in the scheme
you cant make interest off of investments that didnt exist

Francesa can be a pompous ass, but I have to say that I normally love his show.

OMG watch out for the Mets!
i love oliver perez..
4 runs, 3BB, 2IP, then this after the game..
"I know my velocity is not there yet, but that is why I have to work, keep working. ... I've been working too hard and I think everybody is kind of tired a little bit, because it was very sunny, but that's why it's spring training. You try to get ready and try to be confident in all your pitches for the season."
I remember when he used to pitch well against the Phillies. Glad those days seem to be firmly behind him.
you mean when he was a pirate? or a padre?

HA! But he'll still go out and throw at least one gem against the Phils this year.

LOL....the Barstool NYC site is blocked at work and has been labeled "tasteless material" by the DoD.
Barstool Philly works just fine though.
Jason Bay to start the season on the DL.

Chris Rock jumps on board too. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHEM2TmkbyA&feature=player_embedded)
its funny how you guys care so much about the lowly, sucky mets
We know that you and Feva won't be able to keep this thread alive talking about good things that the Mets are doing. So either we post all the funny stuff people are saying about them or just let this thread fall by the wayside. So we keep it going so that on the rare occassion you do have something positive to post about them, you won't have to search back through 3 or 4 pages of threads to find it.
It's all for you brotha.

Yeah, just a few. I probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it.
that video is older than dirt. in fact, its a big reason why so many mets fans wanted him as the next mamager..the legitamacy is in question though. that team taped him non-stop waiting for that to happen. wally played to the cameras just a bit.

I prefer this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOZxT9MHAJU&feature=player_detailpage#t=64s) (also old). He really flips his shtein.
Just wondering what Havas thinks of his Mets, their prolific offense and big time manager?
7 going on 8 in a row right?
Manager holding a team meeting already, I thought I heard the SNY guys say.
Walking the aisle of the plane trying to get guys to keep their heads up?
Facebook status on my newsfeed just now:
QuoteTug McGraw pitcher for the Mets coined the phrase "Ya Gotta Believe"...You know what Tug I believe....That the Mets absolutely, positively, without a shadow of a doubt farging Suck. I'm done. Turning to the darkside.
Chris Young tore his right shoulder anterior capsule and is probably done for the season.
Do the Mets have any pitchers left on their staff who owns the Phils?

Dude might be the most injury prone athlete in mlb.
You have got to be kidding! Young hurt again? Good lord. Just keep that freaky knuckle ball throwing kook away from the bums.

That can't feel good at all.
No wonder Die Hard is taking up golf. Better than wasting another summer watching the Mets.
Beginning on July 1, the Mets start paying Bobby Bonilla his deferred money. He'll get $1.2 million per year until... 2035. (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/met_has_been_last_laugh_p1sM43JlQuSwnJVfKQ69OP)
Lolololol. Bobby B is caking off nice.
Quote
For walking-around money, he holds a cushy $200,000-a-
year job as a "special assistant" at the MLB Players Association in Manhattan but doesn't have to go into the office
Good lord. And he's still getting paid by the Orioles.
That Bonilla story comes up like every six months, but it definitely bears repeating. One of the funniest facts in all of sports.
Who was his agent and can I hire him to negotiate my next raise?
As far as I know it'sn ot that rare...I"m pretty sure Manny is gonna get like 2 mil a year from the Sox for the next 16 years
At least the Sawx got something out of Manny.
You talking about how the green monster still smells like pee?
seriously, that bonilla story is older than dirt. im all for you guys shteinting on the mets - theyve deserved it now for 4+ years - but how about we keep it relevant and give me some shtein i can use too. ok? thanks.
welp this isn't gonna help things (http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=6577486)
so wilpon likes his GRITty white kids (good guys - all of them) and hates tranny latinos
of all the shtein the mets have been through since beltrans strikeout in 06, this, hands-down, is the most embarrassing for me as a fan. this farging guy. i dont understand how he can say the things he did...i have yet to read the article, but the quotes they published are utterly ridiculous.
its one of those long ass new yorker pieces, lots of background detail on how wilpon was raised and how he lost money to madoff/maybe was a part of it.
the quotes are just a small part of it, and actually quite accurate.
What's funny to me is that there are many people/fans in and around baseball who are wondering why Selig hasn't stepped in with the Mets like he has with the Dodgers and so despite the criticism already out there, he basically just came out and said "I make stupid baseball decisions." How is this guy still running the team? Why hasn't MLB stepped in?
They took over the Dodgers (rightfully so) because McCourt was being shady on the business side of things, but on the baseball side you can at least look at the Dodgers and say that they've been to the playoffs 3x in 4 years under him and back to back NLCS. Not to mention that he increased payroll some $30+mil. So in that regard, McCourt had the Dodgers moving onward and upward.
I just don't see how a guy can make such a major business gaff and then say that they don't make smart baseball decisions either and not be held accountable.
As a Phils fan, I love it. But as a baseball fan, it pisses me off to no end.

They'll probably be really good, like the Marlins or Rays.

The Mets just lost to the Braves in the 10th inning... on a balk.
LOLOLOLOL METS
DJ Carrasco just balked in the winning run in ATL.
K-Rod was just traded to the Brewers
Interesting - there was word out this week that he would not be happy as a set up man.
So he sets up for Axeford or vice versa?
And he won't hit that option for $17M or whatever now...lol
i dont know who to be more escared of...the 1999 yankees the braves or the brewers. shaking in my seat.

what
A parent who's a Phillies fan would have told the kid to toughen up. And then punched him in the eye socket.
The kid goes on to embrace Jose Reyes as his new hero.
Maybe his dad should turn off the baseball and buy him some Barbies.

It's crazy to think how many potential umpires DON'T make the cut.
david wright has raised his average 51 pts in the last seven games
Mets lost Reyes (surprise!) and David Murphy to injury.
Murphy looks to be out for awhile. Constanza slid hard into 2nd, and something in Muphy's leg gave. It could be the knee, but it looked lower to me - maybe a broken leg?
Reyes, of course, is just a Hoyda.
That funhole Reyes pulled himself out of the game today after going 1-1 to preserve the batting title.
farging Hoyda
if the phillies sign him to replace jimmy then i dont know
That funhole wants like $18m a year. I hope they don't touch his fragile ass.
He's a bum.
Quote"I said, 'If I go 1-for-1, take me out of the game,'" Reyes said. "And I did that. If I went 0-for-1, maybe I'm still in the game until I get a hit. ... I wanted to stay in the game, but (Mets fans) have to understand, too, what's going on. They have to feel happy about it if I win the batting title. I do that for the team, for the fans too, because they've been supporting me all the way through. I've (had) throughout my career a lot of ups and downs here with a lot of injuries. One thing I do all the time is give 100 percent on the field."
Oh, by all means, let's get this guy on the Phillies.
Yeah - a real go getter, that guy. I bet he has a text from Boras telling him to do it followed by a pic of an armored truck.
Would rather pay Jimmy Jose Reyes money at this point.
Lol @ Terry Collins crying during the post game presser.
