the playoff race in the nfc is going to be incredible this year...i think it would be a good idea to have all this stuff in one place...we can use it for the eagles stretch run as well as game threads for the other teams and big match ups
way i see it is theres seven teams going for five spots and all seven of the teams play at least one of the other six and two of them play two of the other six
eagles could definitely win 11 games and miss the playoffs...how many people would call for a playoff format change if this happens and a 7 or 8 win team from the nfc west makes it?
id rank them like this...in parenthesis is the schedule difficulty...the higher the number the more difficult
virtual lock
atlanta (10) - not only do they have the most wins but they have the easiest schedule of the seven..they will win the south
lookin good
chicago (16) - absolutely brutal schedule but its only slightly more difficult than their only divisonal challenger green bay who they have one more win than - bears should win the north
stay positive
new orleans (16) - strapped with another terrible schedule but they have a bead on one of the two wild card spots simply because they currently have one more win than gb phi and ny - defending champs shouldnt collapse lock them in as one of the wc's
complete coin flip
eagles (12) - ever so slight advantage over the giants (already beat them and gmen have to go to gb) and green bay (much tougher schedule than the eagles)...giant game for all intents and purposes is a win and in for them
green bay (15) - sick schedule but they get what could very well be a main competitor for the last wild card spot at home (giants)....definitely rooting for the giants next weekend
giants (13) - only team left with three of their last four on the road but they get to play both teams they are directly competing against for the playoffs (gb)/division (birds) and the eagles are at home...win either of those two games and they should be looking good
still a chance
tampa bay (9) - bad news is they have less wins than any other team in the race...good news is they have a really easy schedule
this weekends match ups
nyg at minny
eagles at dallas
chicago vs new england
green bay at detroit
atlanta at carolina
new orleans vs saint louis
tampa at taterskins
I was just talking to my friend last night about this. Playoffs start this week. We should (hopefully) be watching some good football throughout. This is not even including the AFC. Oakland, KC....Indy, Jacksonville, Houston....NY Jets and New England, Pittsburgh, Baltimore......it's nuts.
I agree...this is getting exciting to watch...and with as many bad teams as there are...in recent memory...this has become one of the most competitive final stretches for the NFL.
Let's see what the Eagles are made of. I'm hoping they can avenge the atrocity of the last two games vs. Dallas this Sunday.
My NFL erection is in full rage.
Nice analysis.
its good to have all this info in one place
You're better than that.
Not really. Repeating what IGY says is pretty much par for the course.
he hates me now because im not pumped about the pizza bowl
He probably hates you more for winning the Survival johnson.
10-6 isn't going to get the Eagles in this year unless one of those W's is against the Giants. Eagles lose tiebreakers just about across the board in the NFC because of conference record.
That is why every game for the Eagles is huge from here on out. Figures the Boys would get hot this time of year. I'd be lying if I said this game doesn't worry me.

yeah this is not the nfc of late...its probably the strongest its been since 1995...theres been years in the last decade where the conf only had three double digit win teams...this year they should have six and they have an outside chance at seven which has never happened before
Yep. There are people still throwing out the company line still that "it's a weak NFC blahblahblah" and really have no clue what they're talking about. This is one of the strongest NFC's I can remember.
People seem to have a hard to separating the idea that there are 4-5 teams who could literally win the conference from the idea that it's a down year.

I won't. But I'm on the fence with this issue. I'm fine with the current set up....best way to get in is to win your division. I like that. It sucks in a year like this when a weak team like Seattle or StLouis gets in but its not like this is something that happens on a regular basis and youve consistanly got a superior team left on the outside looking in. Of course, if they change it to the 6 best records getting in then I'd be fine with that too.

Eagles do not have an edge over GB. GB won the head to head game and hold the advantage over the Eagles for the Wild Card.
Division winners need to get in otherwise there's no point of having divisions. The Cardinals were widely regarded to be the worst playoff team in the history of the NFL but they damn near won the Super Bowl.
I love how the NFL backloaded the schedule with division games...this is going to be great

Agree....but what I'd really like to see is the first and last 3 games of the year be divisional games. It'll never happen because the league would lose over half of their division rivalries for SNF and MNF but it would still be awesome.

I'm talking about the team not coached by Andy Reid.

Yeah, it's really a weird year in the sense that the Eagles could be dangerous enough to make it to the Super Bowl, but at the same time... by losing that game at the Giants, they could very easily miss the playoffs before they even get started.
Those losses to GB and Chicago could come back to haunt them... I don't think a WC is coming out of the East this year. It's either take the division or go home.

Getting into the playoffs when the division/conference is weak has never really been much of a problem for Reid.
at the same time theres no evidence that he cant do it in a tough conference as hes never coached in one until this year
theres also the vick factor which could supercede any bad coaching that you seem to think will not allow them to make the playoffs
Their fate is still susceptible to his time management mangling, retarded play-calling & pathological hatred of the run.
If they somehow pull a miracle out of their asses and win the Super Bowl, they won't win because of that fat farger; they'll win despite him.
Salty Rome, everyone!
Ha... no reason to be cynical here. After all, look at all the Lombardi Trophies he's won!
Cynicism is cool, as I share it on certain things. Mainly the defense.
But I like when you're spittin' fire. Feisty! Fiery!
its an interesting question but definitely up for debate:
who hates who more, j with rube or rome with andy?
Does PhillyPhreak love McNabb more than Rome hates Reid?
j is a top 3 mcnabb lover in the world...rome is top 3 andy hater on this board

I see Rome buys into the press conference persona.
Chances are, as evidenced by national interviews and the NFL films special, is that he is probably pretty personable.
And all football coaches carry an air of smugness and cockiness with them.

Am I the only one who has noticed a lot less wasted time outs this year?
That does seem to be true, don't know the stats and don't care enough to look them up. That being said his time management still is sub par.
Therefore, I submit, the time management moron could be...............Donovan McNabb.
I suppose that depends on how many timeouts Washington has wasted this year.
the answer would be no more or less than th eagles.....taterskins had some trouble in the st louis game but other than that i havent seen anything out of the ordinary
at this point reid needs to get his replay challenging in order more than his time out management...altho they sorta go hand in hand

More to the fact, the skins are burning a lot more.
I've changed my stance on it being Andy's fault for buring a time out in the first 10 minutes of the half. I really believe it was Wonderlic McNAbb
must have not watched many games this year
andy was awful in the green bay game and his time out management very well may have lost the skins game
mcnabb is certainly no game managing genius but you are not paying attention if you think it was all him
I missed every 1 oclock game (I fly to DC from 1 to 4 on sundays), plus the thursday night game (the hotel I was at didnt have NFL network), so there is truth to that.
And Im not arguing that there has been some blunders by Andy.
What Im talking about is cases where it seemed like the plays wern't getting in on time and McNabb would burn a timeout at the line. I hardly ever see that now, while the few skins games I caught, it seemed like it happened at least once a game.
i think we can all agree the two of them working together was like the perfect storm of time management

chicago vs new england - yup
green bay at detroit - yay!
atlanta at carolina - expected
new orleans vs saint louis - sure
tampa at taterskins - lol
GB losing and Chicago likely losing opens up a window for a WC birth in the NFC East, especially with how hard both the Bears and Packers schedules are.
with their schedule chicago can easily miss the playoffs
Prior to this weekend, sportsbook was paying +130 on the Bears to make the playoffs. Now we see why.

for some reason i thought they were already up 1 game

If you assume that the Eagles will not lose at home to Minnesota on a Sunday night and that the Giants will not lose to Washington, this game is for the division.

i can easily just go look, but what time is the jets? 4pm would be ideal for parking lot viewing..
jets at one
giants at 4
damn..giants game means nothing aside from if they miss the playoffs completely, my life gets even better.
that jets game has #2 seed written all over it..
arent you gonna be in the lot at 1?
What are the scenarios for the Saints missing the playoffs?
They lose their last two, TB beats them and Seattle, and NY wins out?
yeah i think tampa would win on common opponents at that point
yea well be there by then, but by the time we set errvrything up and the tv is up and running, it will be beginning of the 2nd.
chi vs. nyj
chi @ gb
no way they win both. important thing is the packers AND bucs need to keep winning. that forces gb into a must win week 17. if the giants win @ gb next week they and the saints are the wild cards.
Saints lose vs ATL and TB and TB beats seattle and tampa is the other WC I think.
yes they are....they would have a better record against common opponents
new orleans would be in right now if they had beaten baltimore
i just paid my playoff ticket invoice....then jerked one into my paper clip holder
Wouldnt they make it based on head to head alone? Regardless, crazy to think TB and NO could have a play in game. TB has to really be kicking themselves after blowing the game vs Det.
new orleans beat them in their first meeting
how sick is it going to be when vick plays for the NFC title in Atlanta?
I know I'll feel pretty sick if that happens and the Eagles remember they're the Eagles.
wouldnt shock me at all if the giants or saints took out atlanta in the divisonal round anyway
Atlanta is going to be hard to beat at their home. Matt Ryan is something extraordinary like 18-1 at home
atlanta anywhere scares no one and shouldnt...in fact the only team that remotely scares me in the nfc is new orleans because i think brees would light this defense up
in fact id make new orleans the favorite in a game at atlanta and the giants a virtual pick em....maybe atlanta by a couple two or three pts
Any QB in the playoffs will light this defense up
brees is the only qb in the conf. that i think can out score vick and by a significant amount...or the only one that makes me at least worry that he can

This is my thinking as well. I wouldn't feel comfortable in a shootout with their O. Atlanta doesn't scare me. Giants do...a little. Although, I think the Eagles coaching staff would stick with what works rather than try to add new wrinkles to the game plan like they did the first half.
True....if the Eagles jump out to an early lead, it would take most teams out of their gameplans, but all the Saints do is pass anyway.
This all may be moot as I'm guessing the Eagles get the 3 seed and will have to play the Giants in the 1st round....beating any team 3 times in a year is a tall order
agreed...and its not just brees with NO its also the payton factor
and dont get me wrong atlanta or the giants could definitely beat the eagles in the playoffs im just saying im not worried a little bit about either one
order of teams I'd like to see the Eagles play from most to least:
any team in the NFC West
TB
Chicago
GB
ATL
NYG
NO
I am also unafraid of ATL.
I hope they do play him because the theater of Vick going back there would trump any emotion that the Falcons would be able to muster up. Matt Ryan and his home record and those bandwagon fans with their fake noise wouldn't be able to phase what Vick would do that game.

I don't think the Falcons want to see Vick and the Eagles. Everybody talks about how Matt Ryan has only lost one time in the dome as a starter. Well, you know who that team was that beat them? That's right, the Eagles. They're a good team and all, but I think if you put Vick, Pimp, Maclin and Shady on turf in there, that's too much speed for their D to handle. The Falcon D's not that great to begin with, especially in the secondary. Besides, most of that crowd will be torn anyway, because as much as they might want to cheer on the Falcons, they all still love Vick. Not saying they can't lose there, but I like the Eagles' chances in the GA Dome.
I agree with most...NO is the team I'd least like to see, because there's no way in hell the Eagles D can hang with their offense. At all.
Atl shouldn't scare anyone for any reason. They've gotten 'fat' feasting on the bottom of the NFC South and the NFC West this year. They're just not that good. They have a quality win here and there, but for the most part they're not a team that other teams wouldn't want to play. There's a reason they're not highly touted this year. Same for the Bears. Philly vs. Atlanta anywhere would be a good matchup for the Iggs. Like most NO is the only worrisome team because Brees will absolutely shred the secondary as it's comprised right now.
i'd love to see new orleans playing outside of the dome.
they'd get crushed in philly.

I was at the game last year in ATL, and at least half the stadium was there solely to root on Vick. It would be interesting to see how that dynamic plays out in a championship game.
eagles with cobb beat the falcons by 14
does the georgia dome make the falcons 15 pts better going against a michael vick led eagles team?
