Atlanta is a hard nosed team that does everything well and nothing great.

Philadelphia is a spastic mess of inconsistency that is capable of rattling off quick scores and pressuring opposing offenses OR choking on collective cock and missing opportunities and letting awful teams stay in games.

The line could literally be any number and it would make perfect sense to me because no one has any idea what the Eagles are going to look like from one minute to the next.

Damn.  No way for the Falcons to cover but still lose.  But I do like money and ATL to win outright is basically a lead piper.

Like he did against Cleveland?

They struggled against the Browns.

Which means they need some good ol' McDermott coached defense to cure their offensive ills.

If they have the corners playing ten yards off the los and not even touching the receivers until after they catch the ball it's going to be a long day... again.

Eagles in a dramatic ending that creates a QB controversy in Philly, not so much because of Kolb's awesome performance but because of Kolb's awesome performance, Vick sends a text of his junk to Kolb telling him to go over his hotel room in philly and chill. And Kolb accepts. Where's the controversy you ask? It was a pic of Kafka's junk that Vick sends to Kolb. But where's the controversy, you think to yourself? Vick's junk looks like Kafka's junk. Yeah, but where's the controversy you ask? Kafka's junk is black.

I keep going back and forth with this game: On the one hand I think the Eagles and Falcons are similar talent-wise, but I don't think the Falcons are a 5-1 team. What I see now is the Eagles outplaying them but making stupid mistakes to keep them in the game.

The Falcons have the best D the Eagles have seen yet, tenth in the NFL. They get at the qb, and with Dunlap starting it could be a very, very long day for Kolb. You know damn well they'll be attacking from that side.

QuoteFlowery Branch, GA (Sports Network) - Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham and linebacker Sean Weatherspoon are listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Weatherspoon missed every practice during the week after suffering a sprained knee this past Sunday against Cleveland.

Abraham (back) was limited all week, but has not missed a game this season.
Title: Re: Week 6 - Dirty Birds
Post by: PoopyfaceMcGee on October 16, 2010, 06:56:08 AM
It's only fair for them to be without Abraham, since his backup would school King Dunlap anyway.

People have been knocking Kolb for his checkdowns, but the one thing I've said that's really showing today is that when Kolb (or any qb for that matter) gets first team snaps in practice it's going to show on the field. He's had 2 weeks of reps now and is undeniably better than when he came off the bench vs Washington.

Also, I propose we wear those pink shirts to spell out GO EAGLES next week in Nashville.

Only after we organize a group to wear loud obnoxious blue shirts like our "lady" friend at game 2 of the NLDS for tonights bums game.

Not to take away from him as he's looked great....but the oline is blocking well for him, and the Falcons have blown a lot of coverage. Lots of guys running wide open today.

We've been looking for people to compare him to, and it's ranged from Rodgers to Hoying...but I think the more we see, the more Tony Romo becomes the guy he looks like most. When he's confident and has time he can carve you up....but get in his face and rattle him and don't give him time and he crumbles.

Too early to compare him to anyone really.  But he's not Tony Romo until he has an atrocious playoff record.  He's got 5 starts under his belt. But when you look at those 5 starts, 4 of them have been very good.  So given the limited body of work we have to judge him on, it's hard to argue that the offense isn't pretty good when he prepares all week with the first team.

There will be a lot of talk about that fine, most people I heard from yesterday both at work and on the radio didn't think the hit warranted a fine. I said he would be fined as soon as I saw it. IMO, Kolb and Reid are as much at fault as anyone for putting Pimp in the position, going over the middle in a zone like it's man coverage, then floating the pass. You're gonna' get killed doing that. But still, the rules state that you can't lead with the crown of your helmet. If he'd have went in with his eyes up and stuck his face in Pimps chest, like they teach you from day one, he might not have been fined. The days of guys that tackle, I mean actually tackle and wrap guys up, are long gone. Guys are launching themselves like missiles, and the league wants it to stop.

Putting Pimp in that position?

Let's make sure to put all receivers on a go route when the d is in cover 2? Jackson is extremely effective on crossing routes in case you missed the past couple years.

Actually all receivers on a go route against a cover 2 is a legitimately awesome idea. Bad example.

Post by: reese125 on October 20, 2010, 08:37:26 AM
Let's try and read between the lines here and put Madden down for a sec.

You're most effective routes against the cover 2 are going to be your passes over the top the LB's in between the hashes in the middle of the field or over top the DB's on Munsons 16 yd sideline routes.
Title: Re: Week 6 - Dirty Birds
Post by: ice grillin you on October 20, 2010, 09:53:18 AM
he put him in that position because he waited forever to throw the ball then instead of taking the sack tried to make a pass with two men all over him which let the d know it was not going farther than six yards....

the route was fine the throw falls under the category of attempted murder

Hitting the slot receiver over the linebacker and between the safties. Streaks get you there.

I disagree about the route, You don't think the safetys not waiting for what happened, a guy going over the middle?? If you want to sit down in the zone, then fine, but you don't send guys over the middle in a crossing pattern against zone coverage. I can still admit, and did, that the pass sucked donkey ass, but don't send the little man on a crossing route. And yeah, overload one side with your TE and two wideouts, one goes long and the other on a slant, the TE runs a hook or a crossing pattern, then you don't have a safety running ahead full steam ready to kill someone. Christ, it's football 101.

Are you serious? Dont send him across the middle? That's how you "run people open". Crossing routes are a vital part of the offense.

It's the qb's responsibility to not get his people murdered.

But sometimes shtein happens and people get blown up.

When it's man coverage, yes. When it's zone coverage, you don't run them open, you run them into the D.

crossing patterns work wonderfully against a zone you just cant wait for the wr to cross the entire field...you gotta throw it as soon as he hits the lose area

cobb waited forever to throw it to pimp
Title: Re: Week 6 - Dirty Birds
Post by: shorebird on October 20, 2010, 11:22:38 PM
I agree with that, the pass was the worst thing about the play, other than the call itself. But work wonderfully?? No, even if he'd have caught it on the run you still don't run crossing patterns against a  zone D especially with Pimp, 'cause a linebacker or safety is gonna' light him up. If you have a big possesion receiver like Boldin or Ward, maybe, but even those guys are gonna' take the lick hard.

Its Jackson's job to stop the route and sit in the zone.     He should not have kept running across, which is why you get lit up in a zone when you do that shtein.
