interesting that they would trade up for someone in the seventh round when they already have a shteinload of picks

i could see if they were trying to shed some picks and traded two sevens this year to move up

seventh defender chosen

he runs a nice 40 for an inside backer...wonder if he will be tossed in the hopper to see who is drawn as the next SAM

16 tackles
1 forced fumble

The Giants were averaging 183 yards a game on the ground since the last time they played the Eagles. Not today.

Move Stew to SAM.

He's a FA coming off two injury years. Joey B's got that money $aving glimmer in his eye.

I was thinking the same thing. Stews natural position is SAM, he can't cover the TE for shtein but he's stout enough to play the position effectively.

Fokou has been solid the last couple of weeks

The only difference between the SAM and the MIKE (aside from where they line up) in the Eagles defensive scheme is they blitz the MIKE more.
Title: Re: Jamar Chaney, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: ice grillin you on December 19, 2010, 09:47:43 PM
they are totally different positons...the sam has to turn and run with people....the mike has to read and react....stewie is not athletic enough to run down the field...in fact his claim to fame is being a big boy and firing into the line to stop the running game...
Title: Re: Jamar Chaney, Philadelphia Eagle
Post by: Munson on December 19, 2010, 09:48:51 PM
They already ask him to turn and run every ohter play as it is. Putting him at SAM won't increase that amount any more.

In all fairness, Fokou looks kind of silly chasing after tight ends also.

They both have to read and react and turn to run with people depending on if it's a pass or a run, so this makes no sense.

the middle linebacker does not have that in his job description

when the eagles had a great sam in carlos emmons you never ever heard of trotter running with pass catchers...thats not what the mlb is supposed to do and it definitely is not something you want stewie doing...hes bad enough covering people from the middle...you really want him on the outside in open space?

The Eagles don't run a traditional defensive scheme like they did when they had Emmons/Trotter/Caldwell (Barber). Trot was a prototypical MIKE, Emmons a prototypical SAM, and they could throw whoever they wanted to at WIL and make it work. It's more important their MIKE can blitz more so than it is he can cover. Chaney is a MIKE and from what I saw yesterday he has some serious game. He wasn't out of position, and he filled holes in the running game as soon as they opened up.  They've drafted and signed LBs based on speed (McCoy/Dhani) and pretty much threw the best 3 out there. Bradley with a full year of recovery will be better in pass protection than Fokou. I hate that they want their SAM to be more of a DE/SAM hybrid (Joker) rather than a traditional guy like Emmons. To me your Joker should either be a D-lineman who can blitz from the up position or a situational guy.

i dont disagree with any of that....if you want chaney as the mlb then im all for it....but then you bench or cut stew...you dont put him on the outside

Would you rather have Fokou or Stewie at the SAM? Because we both know they're not drafting a SAM higher than the 3rd round and no way in the world they sign a decent one.

I don't know if there's an analyst out there who better understands the Eagles than Brian Baldinger. That being said he was just on DNL and said Chaney is the best MLB the Eagles have had since Trotter in his prime. He went as far as to say Chaney was better.

In case you're unfamiliar with Baldy, while the rest of the NFL analyst were saying "be careful what you wish for getting rid of Mcnabb Eagles fans", Baldy was saying this:

QuoteThe Eagles should be ecstatic. I view McNabb as a flawed player, and it was never more apparent than in the back-to-back losses to the Cowboys last season. His flaws will never go away. Now, the Eagles get at least two chances to expose the same flaws they've been covering up for 11 years. It works against the taterskins that McNabb is still in the division. Andy Reid can finally stop covering up for one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the history of the game. The Eagles will go to the playoffs. The taterskins will be watching from the golf course.

i also dont think he knew anything special regarding mcnabb...most of knew getting rid of mcnabb was a great thing....there were just some who wouldnt admit it

This man gets it:

Quote"This town wants a Super Bowl," linebacker Jamar Chaney told me, referring of course to Philadelphia, not Bethlehem. "The Phillies win. The Flyers win. They want the Eagles to do the same thing. And not just win, like, have a good season. They want you to win a Super Bowl."

Got damn right, Jamar.

I'd love (hate) to see a YouTube of Donovan laughing off disaster and zesty performance, goofing around in the phoniest way, dancing, cracking wise to zero laughter, puking....someone has got to have all that video and nothing to do.

I'd pay a hundred bucks for one set to a mashup of Steve Miller Band's "Joker" with Michael Jackson's "Thriller."  But it's got to have "PYT"' on it...or no money.
