2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
Nate Allen, FS, South Florida
After spending his freshman campaign on special teams, Nate Allen had a breakout sophomore season at South Florida. He tallied 76 tackles, four interceptions and recovered three fumbles -- two of those turnovers even led to touchdowns. Like most of the USF team, Allen struggled in 2008, totaling just 53 tackles and one interception.
However, the 2009 campaign is going much better and Allen has already nearly eclipsed his tackle mark of a year ago through just seven games. He has also picked off three passes and forced and recovered a fumble. His strong senior season has silenced some doubters and Allen is one of the best free safeties available in this class.
Allen has the size and speed one would expect from a free safety. At 6-2 and 205 pounds, he has the measurables that NFL scouts like to see and his ability to pick off passes and stop the big plays on the ground will make him a valuable player. He will have to prove his skills after the season at the NFL combine and during senior week if he wants to move up into the first or second round, but he has the ability to do so.
1/24 Update: And so far Allen is proving to many that he could be a second round selection. He ended the 2009 campaign ranking second on the team with 85 tackles and picked off four passes. The International Bowl against Northern Illinois was not exactly the showcase South Florida was hoping for, but Allen was a part of a dominating defense that held the Huskies to a mere field goal.
4/10 Update: A nagging quad injury has kept Allen from running a 40-yard dash. He is running out of time to get that behind him and show what he can do. However, Allen has performed quite well in some of the other workouts at the combine and the USF pro day, so his stock is still hanging around the second or third round. If he can run prior to the draft, he could solidify himself as a second rounder, but either way there are a few teams who really need a safety and Allen will be one of the better ones available in the second round whether he runs a 40 or no
me likey
I just hope he can live with being booed on what was supposed to be the greatest day of his life.
and the added expectations seeing that he was picked in a draft pick gotten by trading Donovan Mcnabb
Who was also booed. This guy must be the most hated athlete in Philadelphia sports history. Way more than Ivan Drago!
Great and obvious pick at a need.
Had him at 37 on my Eagles mock, might signal the end to sunny's run.

So, will he have a better career than JR Reed?

:-D thinkng the same thing.
feels like to much of a need pick or maybe they panicked when mcluster went but there were a lot better players on the board and several safeties as good or better than him down the road to be gotten

We both did, but you had Morgan as the first pick, so you get two points for wrong player, right position.
I like it. I saw him play a lot on tee-vee down here and he hits like a motherfarger.

That's retarded. Maybe in certain packages ala a young Dawk, but he's going to be in the back end.

Nonsense.
There wasn't a safety left on that board who were as good or better.

well i said as good or better...depending on your opinion...burnett was better imo and there were two or three other guys right in his league...i dont hate the pick but i thought there were much better choices to be made...or trading down would have been a good move
Allen's a ball hawk and bullshtein he can't hit. Ask the Rutgers dude whose head he almost knocked clean off if he can hit.
If I'm watching these blurry blobs on YouTube correctly, I really like that they used The McNabb Pick on a guy who wore number 5.
Does the Rutgers dude read CF posts?

Solid pick.
I wanted him or Washington there.
If they even think about moving him to CB that'd be a travesty. But then again....we're talking about staff that thinks they invented football.
He's a natural FS.
And he wears 5 too

He will wear #29 for the Eagles
thank god we have video from 2007

This pick will be a good one only if Allen intercepts McNabb a few times this year.
Will wear #29, Shady's old number. I guess I need to find a place that modifies jerseys

haha at you for buying a Tony Hunt jersey
They should have given Allen #21.
McDermott contacted JR Reed to see if Allen could handle the system (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles/20100425_Eagles_had_inside_scoop_on_Allen_s_value.html)
Hopefully Reed told him to stay away from fences
Signed to a 4-year deal. Will practice tomorrow morning.
Good stuff, happy to get him into camp early
QuoteAllen text-messaged fellow rookie safety Kurt Coleman on Tuesday to ask about the first day of practice.
"He wanted to know what was going on," Coleman said. "I wrote back: 'If you want to know, get up here.'"
:-D
I would like to sponsor Kurt Coleman.

I'm not trying at all. You are the one that seems to be riding me from thread to thread. I figured you'd be the bigger person here.
why does anyone here think anyone else here actually tries? I even give IGY more respect then that.
I try.
Mostly for laughs. Sometimes I do alright. Mostly, I fail.
In conclusion, I am better than you.

worst rookie DT in the league.
So Donnie gets traded to a rival that sucks with no Oline or real offensive weapons, sees the guy he lobbied for take his job and become nfc player of the month, and the pick they got for him become rookie of the month. FML posterboy.
Hold that thought. If he loses big to the Eagles and/or breaks his neck in the game, THEN he's got an argument.
Allen's picking McNabb this week on a long ball, you just know it's coming.
Yep. Late in the game, as he attempts a comeback having done almost nothing helpful to his team all day, unless you count laughing off worm burners and broken plays.
Nate's leading the team in INT's, but we all know Asante will read McNabb like a book. If anyone's pick sixin' Donnie it's Asante.
right except McNabb has one of the lowest interception rates in league history so yeah I wouldn't count on it. Vick and Kolb on the other hand. irrational hate rah rah rah!

I'm neither going to hold my breath for dook's research, nor do it myself, so I'd appreciate it if you would just post numbers that support my assumption that McNabb throws more interceptions in the final minutes of a game than any other "good" quarterback. Thanks.
24 and 17 in the playoffs
10 and 10 in championship games
I saw some of the taterskins game against the rams last week. I didn't catch the end though because I left after the Eagles beat the Jaguars. Anyone know how the last few minutes went?

Why yes, Eagaholic. It's funny you should ask. In the 4th quarter down by 8, McNabb got the ball back and then went 3 and out.
But with almost 5 minutes left he got the ball back again with a good shot at a comeback. But then he threw up an int that sealed the game and they lost :-( Oh well.

lol
Through four games:
3 Int --- 1st on the team, tied with three other players for most in NFL)
1 Sack --- 7 Eagles have at least one sack, the entire team has 13
14 Tackles -- 5th most on the team
Quote from: SD on September 30, 2010, 06:42:52 AM

Nailed it
i told IGY at the game, he must be invisible out there because all 3 of his picks were exactly like that.
QuoteSTAT OF THE DAY: Nate Allen's third-quarter interception was his third in his first four games. He's the sixth NFL player since 1980 with three INTs in his first four games and the first player in NFL history with three or more INTs and at least one sack in his first four career games. Allen is the Eagles' first rookie with three INTs since Brian Dawkins in 1996.
So we're tailgating on Sunday - probably musta been 1PM or so, and some dude comes up to us (through the fence we park along) and asks for a pen..we ask why and he tells us Nate Allen was stuck in traffic in his car and said he would sign an autograph for this guy if he had ink..We yelled some stuff to Nate, he pointed, gave us a pumped fist and seemed like he got a real kick out of all the shtein going down in the parking lots. Yay us.
I probably can't wear my Nate Allen jersey again, because I wore it to watch that awful game.

I wore mine too. Word of advice, don't throw the borntrade butta joints in the dryer, the numbers get a little puffy in spots. Hang dry it and you're good to go. (they dry fast)
Yep, I am sticking with hang-to-dry. Looking good so far.
If I even put on a jersey for this Sunday night's game, it will be Chooch.
The Phillies jersey's dry fine but I'm gonna start hang drying them to be safe. They leave a lot of irish pennants which I clip with my trusty toe nail clipper.

That's the beauty of spending 25 bucks on a jersey opposed to 300
you mean people buy zesty jerseys not because they are cheap but because you can wash them?
interesting
and for the record i wouldnt even wash a fake jersey
no they buy them because spending that much money on a jersey is insane...even if you're a millionaire.
spending 300 bucks on a jersey is comical especially when you get basically the same jersey for 25.

Been eyeing that old Carmichael for some time. "used" always scares me though.
I spent $54 on a S. Brown jersey back in 2002. Washed it on regular wash (inside out) and hung dry after almost every use and its still in just about perfect condition. I wore it a LOT.

In all seriousness he's been the ST MVP
Great. Nothing like losing your top two draft picks in consecutive weeks.
As soon as he slid in there and grabbed it, we knew he was done.
Get the bailing wire and solder out that they used on CBuck's patella's and get to work.
So, I purchased both Stew Bradley and Nate Allen jerseys at the beginning of this season.
And Trent Cole. Should I burn it ASAP?
Only if you want him to self immolate.
Why? It's not like my Bradley jersey dislocated an elbow or my Allen jersey tore its patellar tendon.
Fine, but if he burns alive we'll know who to blame.
