Title: PFT: Young Eagles Looking to Kolb For Advice

QuoteReport: Young Eagles looking to Kolb, not McNabb, for advice
Posted by Mike Florio on January 18, 2010 11:04 PM ET
As all eyes in Philly are fixed on whether the Eagles will be trading quarterback Donovan McNabb, there's a new piece of evidence indicating that the future might be now for the team's quarterback of the future.  (Product placement!)

Howard Eskin of WIP radio and NBC Philadelphia recently has reported that, during the 2009 season, young offensive players were going to Kevin Kolb for advice on the sidelines before approaching McNabb.

Of course, this says nothing about the organization's opinions of McNabb and/or Kolb, but it's definitely a factor in the question of whether the powers-that-be believe Kolb is ready to be the kind of leader that a franchise quarterback needs to be.

So stay tuned.

Being that Eskin is pretty in tune with the team due to his relationship with Reid, I would surmise that this is correct. Just as his report last night that there is an 85% chance they will bring McNabb back is correct.

probably taken out of context but the fact that its coming from eskin more or less tells the story

they are starting to get stuff out there, trying to distance mcnabb from the eagles and eagles from mcnabb. i guess for the homers they need to ease out of the relationship rather than just admit its over and be done with it.

I can't remember if Eskin is an igy/mds-esque McNabb hater or a McNabb homer.

If it's the first, I'll call bullshtein. If it's the latter, then this is very telling on where the team will be going next year. Other than no where, that is.

I really wouldn't mind Kolb getting the shot, I just hope Reid tones down the ridiculous amounts of passing and, farg me for saying this, puts Kolb in a better position to do well.

I don't know if going with Kolb will be better, but if it makes Reid run more, I am all for it.

Yeah, because this team has always been about being sensitive to the fans emotional needs.

makes sense to me.  i know whenever i have a question on anything at work, i usually seek out someone holding a clipboard.

this is pretty much a non-story and philly is about the only sports market that could actually make it a story.  stand on the sideline for any nfl team during a game and you'll see players talking to the backup all the time.  until the #1 qb gets injured, the #2 is basically another member of the coaching staff.  not a big deal.

By sheer chance I haven't been to a home game in a couple of years. Only road games. It wasn't planned, of course, but I feel like I've one my job in protesting their ownership.

i havent directly given lurie $ for tickets since 2003. once they are paid for, they are paid for, so it's really not giving in to buy off of someone.

If you really cared you'd spend all your spare time calling WIP to complain about how cheap Jeff "Lorie" is.

And watching King of Queens more often.

SI.com has a quick blurb from the Minnesota post gazette or whatever their paper is, talking about Mcnabb being a target for them in the offseason depending on Favre drama.  Take him.

Especially if the Eagles got somebody like EJ Henderson, either of the Williams, Antoine Winfield, or pretty much any defensive starter they have

Maybe they'll trade the eagles all of their best defensive players and all of their draft picks and hooray for reality!

not sure why you would want EJ or Pat Williams, or how you could get Winfield or Kevin Williams. The only one that might offer something of significance next year is Ray Edwards-- who is restricted

im now 95% convinced mcnabb is done as an eagle after this season....howard eskin who would go to war defending mcnabb for the last 10 years has over the last couple weeks done a 180 and now does nothing but blame him for almost everything thats wrong with the birds

now if you know eskin he is the last person on earth that would ever admit he was wrong...so to me the only explanantion for this shift is due to a directive from banner inc.....which obviously means banner inc wants donovan out

fine by me.  Durnaven had a good career here, but i just dont see him ever finishing what he started.  Whether Kolb is the answer is irrelevant at this point.  They call the game differently with Kolb, and he just manages the game.  Advantage of being a coaches son i guess, but i'm ready for a new start to this shtein
