Funny you should ask, the Eagles are #1 in football outsider's DVOA and it apparently is almost all because of Desean and Weaver.

Actually, what I said was there would be no playoffs without a big turnaround. It was after the loss against the Chargers and the Eagles have won every game since. I think that would qualify as a big turnaround.

But don't worry, I'm no bandwagon fan anyway.

Actually, I think they probably win next week, too. I don't see them losing 3 in a year to dallas. A bad loss this week was better than a close game. They need to come out angry, and maybe Reid should bench 5 for the first couple of series. They lose the next game after.

they got swept by the taterskins last year...they can easily lose to the cowboys saturday

Not going to happen.

I'm sure I'll come up with some good reasoning as the week goes on but the Eagles do not lose to Dallas this Saturday night.

It just is not going to happen.

Title: Re: The Eagles will win the Superbowl
Post by: reese125 on January 04, 2010, 11:41:34 AM
bold statement here...which Im sure is based on the odds that its hard to beat any nfl team 3 times

nfl is about individual matchups--and what youre seeing is a mismatch on both sides of the ball at this point. If this team can come back from a shutout defeat like that the very next week, back again at their stadium, in an even bigger stage playoff game....that will speak volumes about this team and the shot they have at a SB run

but it angers me to say, (2) back-to-back shut outs and beating New Orleans at their place is grounds of a legit streak and run to the superbowl.
Title: Re: The Eagles will win the Superbowl
Post by: Eagles_Legendz on January 04, 2010, 12:12:39 PM
Going into a season obviously odds are that a team isn't going to win 3 times vs the same team

HOWEVER, once you take the statement that a team has already won 2 games, those odds aren't true anymore.  Teams that are 2-0 that played a 3rd time in the playoffs vs the same team are 12-7 in that scenario.
Title: Re: The Eagles will win the Superbowl
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on January 04, 2010, 03:21:19 PM
And the Cowboys are 0-2 in that situation

1998 against the Cardinals and 2007 against the Giants

And despite them getting revenge for "44-6", the talk has started about the 13 years, no playoff wins thing.

Pressure is on Dallas this week. Eagles can win on the road in the playoffs.

Everything you just wrote there tells me the Eagles are going to fall flat on their faces again. Whenever things line up in their favor, they fold. This isn't a McNabb thing, a Reid thing, or any single person. This is an Eagles thing.
Title: Re: The Eagles will win the Superbowl

Post by: MDS on January 04, 2010, 03:42:16 PM
just a refresher course heres the teams the eagles beat this year:

skins (2)
giants (2)
bears
49ers
falcons
tampa
panthers
chiefs
broncos

and the losses:
cowboys (2)
saints
chargers
raiders

find me the common theme, jay.

A coach that might actually be worse than Reid says no and that's the only thing that should be giving anyone hope right now.

bingo

given the historical track record of andy and mcnabb and this years team do you honestly think they can rip of 4 wins in a row against all good teams. mcnabbs gonna go head to head with romo, brees, favre and manning and win.

could they win a game? sure. its not out of the realm of possibility they win saturday. i dont see it happening, but it might. 4 wins, though, is not happening. you honestly cant expect it to.

What's funny is of all the QB's mds just named, only one of them has done better than McNabb in the playoffs.

The rest have done about the same or worse...Favre hasn't been relevant in the playoffs for 12 years.

Dallas' running game has struggled at times, particularly when Garrett goes away from it and Barber struggles in short yardage a lot. Their OL can be pushed around too.

The talent on defense is Ware, Ratliff and Mike Jenkins...everyone else is marginal or below average.

besides me being turned on by igy and me saying exactly the same thing, you cant bring up "done better in playoffs" and "mcnabb" in the same sentence without losing credibility. hello puking at the superbowl and 4 nfccg losses.

Brees-Look at all those SB rings!
Favre-Since 97 has choked harder than just about anyone
Romo-Hasn't won in the playoffs....ever

The QB's don't scare me...at all. The teams that they're surrounded by, however, do. And/or their coaching.

Gotta make it there to choke in them. You can't say that about any other QB in the NFC. Actually, this reminds me of Chris Rock's Pat Riley joke.

I'm not saying they're going to win the Super Bowl.

And I'm not saying teams should be fearing McNabb.

I do think however that McNabb and his surrounding cast would be a bit more effective if the coaching and play calling didn't look like it was being called in by you.

Everyone knows McNabb is on and off...you have 3 RB's to offset making him throw that much. And yet you only use them 7 times.

Not smrt.

Out of seriouls curiousity, what is Favre's playoff record since 1998? I know they've won a couple, but if memory serves he's only been to the NFCCG once since 1997.....maybe twice? Either way he didn't win em....

god i keep forgetting how good weaver is, how mccoy can pick up blitz packages and how its 2004 so by golly we must use westbrook!

again, i point you to the drives mcnabb had to win/tie against st louis and arizona. the epic choke against tampa. the no show against carolina and the puking and 2 dreadful ints against the pats.

that had nothing to do with coaching everything to do with mcnabb coming up short on his ownself.

Brees
Favre
Romo
Warner
Rodgers
McNabb

Manning
Rivers
Brady
Palmer
Sanchez
Flacco

How many of those quarterbacks do you take over McNabb THIS YEAR in the playoffs?

Manning, Rivers, Brady, Brees, and Warner should be automatic.

You could easily make a case for Rodgers/Romo/Favre/Palmer too.

I'd rather have McNabb than Favre and Palmer but someone could easily make a case the only two QBs in the playoffs that they'd rather have McNabb over are Sanchez and Flacco.

The rest, ESPECIALLY Rivers, have done less in the playoffs with more to work with. What have they done to prove they could take this Eagles team to the SB and win it? Rivers hasn't been able to do with with Gates and LT who were, at the time, the best players at their posisitions in all of football.

Yeah, that's it. Because he always has to contort his body to make catches.

You do know that sometimes it is up to the receiver to make a play, right? That the ball is not always going to be chest level.

LT is the biggest Hoyda in history as soon as the playoffs start.  Rivers is only getting better and no one in their right minds would take McNabb over him.

Same with Brees.  Tell me you'd take McNabb over Brees.  The rest, as I said are debatable but you could easily say you'd prefer Rodgers or Romo over McNabb right now.  Palmer's injuries have made him too much of a game manager and I hate Favre but McNabb is not in the upper half of QBs among playoff squads.

Hahaha I'm not nor have I ever said he was BETTER Than either Rivers OR Brees.....you're putting words in my mouth to try and make your retarded argument.

I'm saying it's funny how people point them out as better than McNabb in the playoffs when they have done little to nothing to justify it. You're basing it on absolutely nothing other than blind hatred for McNabb.

Wait you mean McNabb threw up a ball and the WR had to make a play on it...and he did?!?!!?

Welcome to the NFL! Have you ever watched a game?

lolololol...so throwing a deep TD pass is discounted because Jackson had to make a bobbling catch?!

If Warner makes that throw to Larry Fitz and the exact same scenario played out, what would you say? That Warner sucked and just threw the ball up there?

Of course not. Warner would be hailed as Football Jesus.

god youre so dumb

theres a difference between pimp winning a jump ball and maclin having to reach behind his body and snare a 1000 mph fastball

and that play wasnt good enough. it didnt do enough. the defense let mcnabb down, sure. but he had the chance to answer back and he failed. enough of these excuses that 4 and out is his farging legacy.

id take almost all of those guys over mcnabb right now...and most of them easily just because with mcnabb you pretty much know youre not going to get a good performance in a big game...the others have either shown they can or at least hold some hope that they might

farve i would not take at this stage of his career

Brees
Favre
Romo
Warner
Rodgers
McNabb

Manning
Rivers
Brady
Palmer
Sanchez

Favre is basically have a career year but you would want Mcnabb over him? Gotcha

I can't stand Favre and I don't  trust him on the road in the playoffs, so if he was QBing the Eagles, yes I'd rather have McNabb.  As I said though, plennnty of people could make a case that they'd rather have Favre.

lol it's fun having this talk with people who have never done anything athletic in their lives.

Jewboy, I promise...no I guarentee you that every player in the NFL, including Maclin, will tell you that if the ball hits you in the hands, you catch it. That's it. That's the golden rule of being a WR.

Especially a first round draft pick WR who's supposed to be a playmaker.
Title: Re: The Eagles will win the Superbowl
Post by: MDS on January 04, 2010, 04:18:57 PM
thats such a nonsensical thing to say. watch the play again and if you honestly believe that was a catchable ball you are dumber than we originally thought.

it would have been a prayer for maclin to catch it. youre basically working off milliseconds of instincts in that spot. or, if mcnabb wasnt a choker, maclin could have caught it in stride and maybe the eagles would have lost 24-3.

i'm not denying it was catchable, Maclin should've made the catch.  i'm also saying Donovan should've made a much better throw.  he wasn't under pressure, and Maclin was wide open, no reason for him not to hit him in stride.

oh, and munson's a clown for throwing out the "i played the game" bullshtein.

lol like I said....never done anything athletic in your life, have you? Let alone played football.

Please. This is as bad as IGY not knowing what a seam route is.

He didn't even have to reach that far behind him. You're acting as if it was some twisting of the body acrobatic catch. It wasn't. It was a simple reaching back to your back shoulder catch....And it hit him in the hands. And he didn't catch it.

There hasn't been one person here who hasn't said the throw should have been better....but to say the ball is uncatchable is downright retarded and I'll bet you 938535345490469476464764 dollars that if you ever asked Maclin he'll tell you he should have caught it.

he actually did twist, and lol at you keep trying to bait me into some sort of athletic comparison, like i have to prove anything to you.

if you can watch that play and say donovan made a good throw, good for you, that says everything i need to know about you.

This will be the 8th time I've said no one has said Donovan made a good throw....and everyone has said it should have been a better throw.

It's the tards like Todd who claim it to be uncatchable that need to be shot.

And no, I wasn't referring to you about not ever playing a sport. Although that wouldn't surprise me either.

Rusty-Of course it's frustrating....but I'm not a dumb fan who's just going to blame it all on one guy.

I think Maclin could have made a play and made it to the endzone. If McNabb would have made a more accurate throw, Maclin had all sorts of empty field in front of him

The ball Maclin should have caught for a TD was the one he didn't even look for because he had a couple of defenders near him

McNabb certainly has come up small many times.  But Reid is a fat farging douchebag moron, who will never coach a SB winning team.  They're made for each other.

Reid's comments after the game were just as inane as McNabb's.

I didn't read this whole thread, because you guys are dumbing me down too much.  So someone may have said this already..

I was hanging my hopes on the Eagles winning because it's hard to beat a good football team three times in one season.  Then I learned that 20 times in the NFL teams met twice in the regular season plus once in the playoffs, where one team beat the other both times during the regular season.  In 12 of those 20, that same team won again - meaning three wins in a season against good (playoff) teams.

Now I'm just sad.

anytime you can continue going down the same path with a qb that assumes getting 1 early 4th qtr touchdown is all he needs to win the game then throws his defense under the bus  when they don't comply is something you gotta do. gotta like that guy.

I wish it was a 4th quarter TD. Seems like this team relies on blowing the score up in the first half then hopefully holding the opposition off in the 2nd
Title: Re: The Eagles will win the Superbowl

That's exactly what the team relies on. That's why they are so capable of losing to teams like the Raiders. If they're out of synch early and get behind the coaches have no idea how to adjust their gameplan because the whole idea was to get a lead early and throw the other team off of their game.

because their coach is horrendous at in game adjustments

perfect example from this season....the eagles have scored on their first drive in a decent number of games but have been outscored in the third quarter by like 50 pts

halftime adjustments FTL
