Title: Fantasy Football - Playoff Edition
Post by: Sgt PSN on December 17, 2009, 10:00:08 PM
it starts with the wild card round of the playoffs and continues on until the super bowl.  here's how it works:

build your roster to these specs:

1 qb
2 rb
2 wr
1 rb/wr flex
1 te
1 k
1 def/st
3 bench (max 1 player at each position....in other words, you could have 1 qb, 1 rb and 1 te or 1 rb, 1 wr, 1 def/st, but not 2 qb, 1 wr or 3 rb)

rosters will be made up from players of teams who make the playoffs (obviously).  no need for a draft as the same players can be on multiple rosters.  once you set your line up, that's it.  no trades, no drops, no additions.  after each round of playoff games, players on teams that were eliminated are out and you either have to replace them with someone on your bench or go the rest of the way with an empty spot.  example:  you pick aaron rodgers as your qb and the packers get eliminated in the first round.  if you don't have another qb on the bench (or if your other qb is also eliminated) then you go the rest of the way with no qb.

total points wins out, so no head-to-head match ups.

point system is:

passing:

1 pt/10 yds
6 pt/pass td
2 pt/pass 2PAT
-1 pt/sack taken
-2 pt/int thrown

rushing:

1 pt/10 yds
6 pt/rush td
2 pt/rush 2PAT

receiving:

1 pt/10 yds
6 pt/rec td
2 pt/rec 2PAT

kicking:

1 pt/PAT
3 pt/fg 0-39 yds
4 pt/fg 40-49 yds
5 pt/fg 50+ yds

def/st

1 pt/10 return yds -
1 pt/sack
2 pt/safety
3 pt/recovered fumble
3 pt/interception
6 pt/return td
1 pt/blocked PAT
2 pt/blocked fg/punt
3 pt/recovered onside kick attempt (kicking team only)
-1 pt/25 yds allowed (def)
-1 pt/50 yds allowed (st)
10 pt/shutout

if you want in, just post that you're in.   i'll place the rosters and track the scoring via excel spreadsheet on google docs and will provide the link so everyone can see their progress.  i'd like to have at least 7 committed to doing this by jan 3...although anyone can continue to join in after that up until the roster deadline. if there's less than 7 on jan 3, then i doubt we'll do it because i probably won't feel like doing the work of putting together the spreadsheet for just a couple of people.  i'll take roster/team submissions all the way up until midnight, jan 8.  roster adjustments can be made up until 12pm est on jan 9 and 12 pm est each saturday after.

roster submission/changes can be given to me via pm or posting them in this thread.

ok, i've got the spread sheet done up for keeping score.  as it stands right now, we've got 8 playing but if anyone else wants in, just say the word or pm me a roster by midnight friday.

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AtfzWlfdIwfIdExIY2Q5UXpiR1pOWDIzX3ZlbnJwb0E&hl=en

pretty simple.  click on the link to open the excel spread sheet.  find your name on the bottom tab.  that will be your score sheet and it's set up to keep a running total throughout the playoffs.

right now, i've got a sample roster with point totals on my page.  so far, t-hawk is the only one to pm me a roster.  full roster must be submitted to me via pm by midnight est on friday jan 8 (board time).  game rosters must be submitted to me via pm no later than 10 minutes prior to kickoff of the first game that day.  ex:  sat first game is 4:30pm est so final roster for saturday must be submitted by 4:20pm est (board time).

i've got the master spread sheet saved on my desktop where i will make the updates each week and then post the results on google docs.  stats will be taken from espn.com box scores.

questions?

got rosters from 4th&26, reese, t-hawk and sunmo so far.  sunny gave me his game day roster and i've added it to the spreadsheet.  the rest i added to the spreadsheet in the order you provided to me so if you want to make changes, let me know.

here's the link to the spread sheet.  if you want changes made to your starting lineup, you have until 10 min before kickoff to post them.  i am working today so if i don't make the changes to the spreadsheet in a timely manner, you know why.

most rosters had enough players eliminated in the first round that i'm able to fill in your vacancies with players on the bench.  but there's a few who built rosters heavy on teams that had 1st round bye and need to make roster decisions.

i'll fill in what i can, just pm me any changes up to 10min before kickoff.

sunmo - needs to choose between warner and brees.

reese - told me he wants austin at wr but didn't tell me who he is replacing.

eagles legendz - needs to choose between brees/manning and fitzgerald/wayne, jackson or rice.

everyone else had enough players eliminated that they didn't need to submit rosters and i was able to fill open roster spots with your bench.

one of the things I just noticed--am I the only one that finds its odd that youre guaranteed negative points on the defense for yards given up? very strange rule sarge

Title: Re: Fantasy Football - Playoff Edition
Post by: Sgt PSN on January 17, 2010, 12:34:18 PM
just a little something i threw in there to make it a little more interesting.  and i actually made a change to the scoring on that and forgot to update it in this thread.  originally i had it at -1pt for every 25 yds and def and 50 yds on st that was given up and i changed it to 50 and 75 respectively.  after i got done creating that speadsheet i just started plugging "average" stats in all fields and noticed that defense/st were getting unusually high(er) scores and i realized it's because most leagues like yahoo and espn give/take points away based on the amount of points the defense gives up:

10pts/shutout
7pts/1-6
4pts/7-13
1pt/14-20
0pt/21-27
-1pt/28-34
-4pt/35+

i didn't really feel like creating a new column for each of them and figured that by taking away points for yds allowed would help balance it out a little bit.  looking at it a little closer, -1pt for every 100yds def allowed and 125yds spec team allowed is probably more realistic than what i went with. oh well.  i'll keep it in mind for next year if we do this again.

Post by: reese125 on January 17, 2010, 04:25:39 PM
not that big of deal since no money is involved, but I would say stay away from the yards allowed all together. I mean, Im just thinking that game against the Packers/Arizona alone would be a hurt piece on the defense scoring.

ints, fumbles, sacks, td's, etc. should balance out the roster itself. whatever though, its your gig--do what ya gotta do

it's highly unlikely, but it is possible.  we break even on anything manning does, but if reggie wayne goes off and dallas clark gets shut out, i still could pass you in the standings.  technically i could pass phreak too, but not 4th&26 which is why i'm eliminated from possibly winning first place.

that being said, i have no interest in putting money on reggie wayne outscoring dallas clark by 40pts.

not that any of yous care, but here's the final tally.  i find it suspicious that everyone is sandwiched between the candian ice couple.  i knew you 2 were freaks.

4th&26 - 384.9

phreak - 383.8

thawk - 378.5

sarge - 340.5

sunmo - 333.8

reese - 298.8

legendz - 283.4

canadianeaglesfan - 275.7
