Title: Eagles/Chargers Talk
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on November 09, 2009, 11:26:50 AM
San Diego isn't exactly a great team, but they have some great players. And some great mis-matches against the Eagles. They are similar to the Eagles in the sense that they are slow starters and maddeningly inconsistent. Oh, and Norv Turner is a bonehead.

Antonio Gates versus the LBs and DBs = advantage Bolts
Darren Sproles versus the LBs & on STs = advantage Bolts
Vincent Jackson & Malcolm Floyd = advantage Bolts

The only hope to win is to beat up Rivers, which is possible because the SD OL is not great and to throw a lot because their secondary is beatable.

AFC game on the road = automatic loss

They open as a 2.5-pt underdog, O/U 47.0

And I don't even know what LBs will be on the field. After Jordan went out yesterday, I think the entire group had what, 3 starts with the team between them?

So is the sky falling yet? From the looks of this place I'd say yes. from the perspective of a rational person I still believe that they will go either 9-7 or 10-6.

How they get those wins is farging beyond me at this point, but they will get them because my penance for years of suceeding without trying and being snarky and destructive to those around me is that I will have to tolerate 25 years of Andy Reid on the sidelines in Philadelphia.

I would add an internet-approved "fml" but my life rules so I'll just say farg Andy Reid and be satisfied that my point has been made.

Andy in AFC road games:

1999-2001 = 4-2 (one of which was Seattle)
2002 (realignment/expansion/new rotation)-present = 6-8-1

four of those ten wins were against Cleveland and Kansas City

and not that they've played in San Diego that much anyway, but they haven't won there since 1974...

This is the game that marks the next step of the annual mid-season swoon. AFC road trip, zesty match-ups (as noted above) and endless pass plays. Weather should be nice, though.

But at least they'll be a "scrappy" race to a wildcard after a wrist-slitting run of the next 4 games

I'm having trouble even looking forward too this next game after Sunday night. I know that every year since Romo became the Cowboys qb that he looks good in the beginning of the year and tanks out before he can win a playoff game or even make the playoffs. That has happened more than not at the hands of the Eagles. But still, Andy Reid has me with such a bad taste in my mouth, that I don't think I can really get excited for a game anymore. The situation right now is such that this team will be lucky to make the playoffs, even with all the talent we have on offense. I know the o-line is inconsistent, but I feel this team doesn't reach it's potential solely because of Andy Reid and his game day coaching. This team is inconsistent with a capital I, and half the time doesn't looked prepared to play at all, and that is a direct reflection of it's coach.

Until Lurie can find it within himself to find another coach and move Ried up to the FO, or let him go altogether, every year to come will be the same as we've endured in the past.

L.T. has a hip injury
Posted by Mike Florio on November 12, 2009 1:07 PM ET
As Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson figuratively limps through what could be his final NFL season, he could be literally limping, too.

Tomlinson, hobbled earlier this year with a sprained ankle, missed practice Wednesday with a hip injury.

The development comes as a time when coach Norv Turner is expressing a desire to pump up the running attack, which has languished in 2009.

Currently, the Chargers are last in the league, averaging only 69.6 rushing yards per game.

"We need more carries," Turner said Wednesday.  "To continue to get better as a total team, no question we need more."

Five other Chargers missed practice on Wednesday, including tight end Antonio Gates (foot), defensive lineman Travis Johnson (groin), defensive tackle Ogemdi Nwagbuo (ankle), linebacker Shaun Phillips (ankle), and linebacker Jyles Tucker (ankle).

Center Nick Hardwick, who sprained his ankle way back in Week One, participated on a limited basis.  He has been practicing at times over the past few weeks, but Hardwick has yet to return to practice.

Linebackers Shawne Merriman fully participated on Wednesday, despite a foot injury.

looks like the battle of the gimps and the makings for an ugly game.   o/u total run plays = 7

if it works whatever, he has the make-up for it...but I wouldnt say im thrilled about it.

Im pretty sure Gocong has more speed then both Witherspoon and Fokou at this point, and they will need his speed inside/outside the hashes--especially against a squad that passes their ass off.

dont know if anyone saw this but M. Mayock and Belick break down the eagles/dallas game and some of the problems.

its crazy all the shuffling thats going on with that front. Im sure ron rivera is going to throw a lot of blitz packages at mcnabb to throw him and the line off being how bad he is against the blitz this year, but I still think they win this game though... not because they are more talented than SD, but I like them more as an underdog

OK, you all know i'm the last to defend this FO. But they have a shteinload of injuries this year and right now. THey lost their starting MLB, another starting LB and 2 CBs. What teams have enough depth in those positions to have "those who would start on a playoff team" waiting on the bottom of their roster?

Comments like these are farging ridiculous. They went out and got Witherspoon which is looking like the pickup of the year so far. They can't pull that shtein off every week when there is another injury or suspension.

WTF else are they supposed to do?

Again, I hate this FO. You all know that. Reid, banner, lurie...all of them. But this kind of shtein is ridiculous to get on them about.

Having Gocong as a linebacker starter is what's a joke.  They lucked into Witherspoon too.  And while it's impossible to have All-Pro backups coming off the bench it would be nice if they had at least remotely competent players but that's just not how they roll.
Title: Re: Eagles/Chargers Talk

On the plus side, they'll have two out of three linebacker spots filled with okay players next year with Stewie and Witherspoon.

Bullcrap. Like the wr position in years past, the linebackers have gone almost unadressed. They have one that might have made the pro bowl, and he has been lost for the season.
, the other who was injured wasn't that good anyway. All the rest are either out of position or just not good. The linebacker position has been a terrible part of this defense for the better part of the time Reid has been here, other than Trotter, and thats debatable around here.

Exactly, thier backups are practice squad players. Since Bradley, when was the last time they drafted a starting linebacker??

"WTF else are they supposed to do?" How about addressing the need they've had for the last 5-6 years for a decent linebacking corps before someone gerts injured and exposes thier roster for the lack of depth is has?

Akeem Jordan would be a nice 4th LB. I like the way he plays. Pretty aggressive and can make some big plays here and there.

I struggle to think about any big play made by Gocong. He rarely misses games. But he's no solid, no numbers guy like Carlos Emmons was. Emmons wouldn't get picks or sacks but was just a damn good SAM.

I like the idea of Stew and Witherspoon next year.

But that won't help the disgusting mismatches at Jack Murphy tomorrow.

gocong was and remains a situational pass rushing defensive end.  putting him at the mike might be the most comically retarded move of reid's tenure in philly.  i know they don't have many other choices but that's on reid/heckert too.

Bobby Taylor was a far superior tackler than Asante is.  So bad.

It's going to be a while before the Eagles get a call in this game too.  Offensive PI on Maclin but not on Floyd when he pushed Sheldon out of bounds.  Unneccessary roughness on that push by Fokou?  The Eagles are terrible on their own they don't need any help.

id have to see it again but i dont even think that was the clock...it was mcnabb not liking what he saw and being the moron that he is by calling a TO instead of calling an audible...or just running the play as is

The Eagles are terrible on their own they don't need any help.

cant have it both ways...sheldon barely got touched and really he fell rather than pushed and you want that called but fokous which was also weak should not be called?

macklins was straight up blatant

The point is either both need to be called or neither need to be called.

Jesus farg this team. RUN THE fargING BALL JESUS CHRIST STOP fargING PASSING IT ON 3RD AND 1 YOU FAT fargING PIECE OF shtein.

high school teams arent even offsides on kickoffs

the worst part of this season is that they already have five wins which means they end up with 7 to 9 wins and go into the offseason with a zesty team and an average draft pick

You know what it'll be.

"This loss is on me"

You may as well get some sound bytes from a loss in 1999 and play it today.

With this loss it's going to be very hard to make the playoffs. Dallas is getting beat 17-0 by the Packers. The Eagles have blown a big chance to gain in the standings, just like they did last week. After watching the offensive ineptitude in the red zone today, I can't help but think that this season is over. There will be no playoffs this year for the Eagles. Not unless they make a miraculous turnaround.

9-7 Wildcard, first round exit. Reid will be able to keep saying he consistently fields playoff caliber teams. Fans' brains will explode when they realize it means many more years of Fatty. Kolb starts next season, Eagles finish 10-6, first round exit. McNabb goes to a run first team that just need an experienced QB who won't do anything truly stupid (think Johnson with the Bucs or Dilfer with the Ravens) and wins a SB ring. God laughs.

Title: Re: Eagles/Chargers Talk

They won't make the playoffs if they continue like this. They wouldn't have made it last year barring a Giants collapse and them getting extremely hot at the right time.

I don't see this team getting hot again though. Andy Reid is too bad for it to happen again and McNabb too inconsistent.

Yeah...right. You look at the standings and see a team one game out of first. I look at this team and see 58 penalties, terrible inconsistancy and game day coaching, and a qb whose best days are far behind him. Not too mention a defense that within the last two weeks lost two corners and seems to be getting worse by the game.

The remaining schedule:
Chicago
Washington
Atlanta
New York Giants
San Fransisco
Denver
Dallas

You might think that Chicago, Washington, and San Fran are wins, but don't forget this is the same team that lost to the friggen' Raiders. They have terrible coaching, and cannot, I repeat, cannot get it done inside the twenty. When you have a offense who can't get a single yard in three tries, you have some really serious problems. I can see them going 3-4 or 1-6 to finish the season.

this is the dumbest farging team the redzone.  reid's terrible playcalling gets even worse inside the 20 and the entire offense in general just seems to no give a shtein.

this defense is terrible.  sheldon brown has no business thinking he deserves a raise after yesterday.  they made LT look like he was 5 years younger.

why the hell was buckley and macho harris returning kicks?  why was maclin returning punts?

what's the record on consecutive plays from the shotgun?  i bet andy slaughtered it yesterday.

Yeah they could be 8-1, but the fact of the matter is they are what their record reflects.  If you can't convert short yardage on a consistent basis you aren't going to win.  If you can't score in the redzone you aren't going to win.  If the defense can't make a stop when it needs to late in the game you aren't going to win.

Halfway through the season they haven't fixed any of these issues.  Hell they have had these same issues for several seasons.
Title: Re: Eagles/Chargers Talk
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on November 16, 2009, 10:54:41 PM
Exactly right, one of Parcells' best quotes was "you are what your record says you are".

*inefficient in the red zone
*poor special teams play
*no run blocking whatsoever
*inability to convert short yardage
*poor play calling
*dumb farging penalties

If the run blocking/short yardage/red zone junk was even half decent, they would have won at least the last two games.

That is what is so frustrating, because any good NFL team can do even the simplest things, yet this team can't.

I honestly don't know why anyone is pissed off after this particular game. For I don't even know how long now, you know the outcome of games by halftime. If they're going to lose, their last attempt will come with about 7 minutes left in the fourth quarter. If they're going to win, they're up by twenty.

I genuinely enjoyed the game. The stupid playcalling, the wasted timeouts, the complete refusal to run the ball. All of it. Friggin' loved it. I got to MST3k my way through the whole thing.

Its a shame that the eagles make these runs to get in the playoffs year after year, thus the reason Reid gets these light passes (at least in my mind) from the press and upper management..more-so from upper management because its a dollar and cents thing to them. Getting to the superbowl was a crusher in terms of his firing of any kind. Thats why it disgusts me that there is talks of an extension.

His play calling and coaching inefficiencies gets overshadowed by McNabbs play. Should McNabb get criticized..no doubt...but their should be a local/national shtein storm on tv, newspapers, etc. about Reid to no end after every game. I dont think there is a coach in the league that comes close to making the blunders that Reid makes on game day on a consistent basis...even the worst NFL coaches with the worst record.

Watching that game live made me sick Sunday and it should of to Lurie as well.  A "true" winning organization with the right goal in mind would see these mistakes as a horrendous trend that only gets worse (if thats possible), not better, and looks for the right guy to being them a championship. Not this one which is a joke.

it's no more maddening than when they had below average recievers and still didn't run.  if anything, this should be the year that we want to see mcnabb throwing the ball 40 times a game because after 10 years, reid finally has the personnel to run a pass oriented offense.  jackson, maclin, avant, celek, mccoy and weaver are all threats to catch the ball and make plays.  the inconsistancy of this offense and the passing game is without a doubt, proof positive of how terrible reid is at game planning/in-game playcalling.

he has EVERYTHING that he needs to run the type of offense that he wants to run and it still isn't working.  what else does lurie need to see to realize that his head coach simply hasn't, isn't, and never will get the job done?

Avant had a pretty good game this week. Can't really complain about the guy that was supposed to be last on the depth chart.

I am just saying in general.  I love this receiving corps as a whole, but they have had some key drops.  Avant probably only has one or two drops the whole season.

This is definitely the best group this franchise probably has ever had.  The main point I was trying to make is that no one area on this team should be shielded from criticism.
