couldnt believe my ears when I heard mcnabb say, "we established a running game today" on his post game sideline interview. it just sucks as fans we need that to happen on the first 5 plays of the game or its 90% pass the rest
nice to see reid watched tape on the skins game and noticed that you have to pass over the middle of field to move the chains. with these receivers and the speed they have it should be clockwork....and its not like mcnabb needs prolonged blocking on the o-line to make that happen.
Romo is going to get teed up. 3 nfc east wins in a row coming up.

Watching Celek reach up and catch those lobs was probably the second best part of the game for me. Imagine that, the Eagles doing what other teams have been successfully doing to them every year since Carlos Emmons left.
they have to figure out how to contain these opposing tight ends....the shtein is getting out of hand. I dont know if the safeties are playing over the top the corners too much or what, but something new has to be drawn up
the eagles play so much man coverage that it forces witherspoon to keep his assignment on the rb coming out of the backfield exposing the tight end in the middle. saw it too many times yesterday. they need to keep that shtein in check with witten releasing
They won't fix it. We all know that by now. It was "getting out of hand" 5-6 years ago. This is just the way it's gonna be as long as Reid is here. Witten is gonna eat them up, so is Gonzales, so is Olsen, etc.

no I hear ya...same story and we usually see one of the ongoing blitz packages getting exposed leaving one of those lb's on an island, but the Eagles didnt blitz that much during the game and on Boss' big gains.
just trying to figure out if there is a specific guy blowing their coverage.

I only know one Dallas fan and don't know that I've ever met another one outside of an actual football stadium. The level of animosity I have for the Cowboys is so much lower than it is for NY and Was that they don't even rate. At least TO gave me something to get fired up about. I hate them because they're a division rival, outside of that YAWN.
i just talked to one of the guys doing work for me and he told me he's a Yankees and Cowboys fans. i jokingly asked him if he also roots for Notre Dame...he said he does. these are just the worst people.
they should be burned at the stake. I liked Notre Dame as a kid(irish family), still do to a point, but i find ND fans beyond annoying. Add to that being a cockroach and yanks fan. Bludgeoning

He ain't got shtein on a buddy of mine as far as frontrunning goes. He's a 49ers (5 Super Bowls), Lakers (16 NBA Titles), Blue Devils (3 NCAA Titles) and Hurricanes (5 Nat'l Titles) fan... and he's born and raised in Atlanta. At least he calls himself a Braves fan but that's probably changed to Yankees by now.

pretty much...people feel like they have to hate the cowboys more so than actually hating them...its like a contest of who can be the biggest cowboy hater because then by form of the transitive property it means you are that much more of an eagle fan
i hate the cowboys the most as a team but i hate the taterskins the most as a fanbase.
thank god they got someone as hatable as romo
You're confusing hate with pity, I think. I can't really hate Romo because I know that by December and January it'll end in literal tears for him.
Well it's not a Reggie Miller, I-hate-you-because-you-own-us kind of hate.

QuoteAs you might have heard, Owens left Philadelphia and Dallas amid some acrimony.
Owens is now in Buffalo, where the acrimony is over why the Bills stink and when they will stop stinking.
But we care about things here, the center of the universe. When asked by a reporter for the Buffalo News which team he would root for in Sunday night's Eagles-Cowboys game, Owens said, "Obviously, the game could go either way. But I have to go with my guys down in Big D."
Owens' view will not alter the Earth's spin or even the Eagles-Cowboys game. But he was such a beacon of energy and angst during his days in Philly and Dallas that one can't resist the urge to ask, to hope for something incendiary.
Buffalo is a fine, upstanding community, and it's in New York, but it's a long way from the lights of Broadway. And Owens has, by his standards, mostly avoided starting fires.
Owens is not a recluse, though. After his first practice with the Bills in May, he served as the sportscaster on one of the evening news shows.
"The top story in sports tonight is 'I'm here,' " Owens said on the air, according to the News. He showed some videotape and then added, "Now let's hear what I had to say after practice."
Cast adrift by the Cowboys in the off-season, Owens did not get a lot of offers, as teams worried about chemistry, quarterback relations, his age (35), and how they might be portrayed in Owens' quasi-reality show. Bills owner Ralph Wilson was ready for some pizzazz after three straight 7-9 seasons and a 5-11 campaign before that. Alas, the Bills are just 3-5.
Bills quarterback Trent Edwards missed the last two games after suffering a concussion but might be back Nov. 15, when the Bills return from their bye week.
Meanwhile, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick - who managed to tie the Eagles, 13-13, while with Cincinnati last season - has struggled. He did complete five passes to Owens for 39 yards on Sunday, but they came in a 31-10 loss to Houston. The lone Buffalo TD came on a 29-yard end around by Owens.
One of the problems for Edwards and Fitzpatrick is that left tackle Jason Peters was traded to the Eagles and Demetrius Bell now has the job. Also, right tackle Jamon Meredith got hurt.
"It's hard to get into a rhythm or develop any kind of chemistry when those guys aren't the guys that started through training camp," Owens said after the game, according to the News. "Every week we've played with an injury or two on both sides of the ball. . . . We're playing musical chairs with a lot of guys in the line."
lololol... exiled in buffalo of all places.
die screaming, t.o.
Roy Williams is trying to be T.O.:
"He gets the ball thrown correctly his way," Williams said of Austin. "I'm stretching and falling and doing everything. Everybody [else] who's been here's balls are there. Our footballs [from Romo to Williams] are everywhere right now."
I used to think this guy was a stud....but he comes off as a big vagina.

As if the TE's raping the Eagles defense wasn't bad enough already....
QuoteHarbaugh: "Cowboys are everything that's wrong with the NFL"
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 6, 2009 12:59 PM ET
Ravens coach John Harbaugh experienced the Eagles-Cowboys rivalry for nine years as a member of the Eagles staff. And he came up with some strong opinions on the differences between the Andy Reid era Eagles and the Jerry Jones-led Cowboys.
ESPN's Matt Mosley points out a timely excerpt from a new book on the Eagles by Reuben Frank and Mark Eckel. Harbaugh was asked why the Eagles have had so much more success than the Cowboys over the last decade.
"Why is that? Because what Andy Reid and his program stand for the opposite of what the Cowboys stand for. The Cowboys are a star system. It's all about building around individuals first and collecting talent, collecting great players," Harbaugh said.
"Andy has always been about building a team. And over the long haul, it's a team sport, and one of the greatest examples of that is what's happened with the Eagles and the Cowboys over the last 10 years. The Cowboys stand for everything that's wrong with the NFL."
Ouch.
The quote might be bulletin board material even though Harbaugh has moved on to the Ravens -- where he delivered a devastating loss to Dallas in the final game at Texas Stadium.
Baltimore doesn't face Dallas again this year, so Harbaugh's words probably won't have staying power. Still, it's safe to say he won't be interviewing with Jerry Jones if he's ever looking for a job again.

QuoteIRVING, Texas - Roy Williams has not had good experiences on the field against the Eagles, and he says his family was not treated well by fans because they were wearing Cowboys gear during their visit.
"My brother was trying to get a cab ride back to the hotel [from the stadium] and they got in the cab and the guy was like, 'E-L-G-S, Eagles! Eagles! Eagles!' " Williams said. "My brother said, 'First of all, learn how to spell.' But he wouldn't give my family a ride because they had Cowboys stuff on. So they learned not to wear Cowboys stuff when they go to Philly."
Williams was a member of the Detroit Lions when they lost to the Eagles, 56-21, in 2007, and then was with the Dallas for last year's 44-6 pounding in the regular season finale.
Williams has long since gotten my vote as the biggest sniveling Hoyda in the NFL.

So last night I went to the bar with a few of my buddies and I'm decked out in my Dallas gear. I'm talking Jersey, hat, watch and Key chanin hanging out of my pocket. So we walked to the bar and started to order a few pitchers. before our drinks got there a few other guys came from the pool room and they were wearing Eagle and Phillies jerseys. I looked at them and noded as if to say hi and did not recieve a responce just a glare. So our pitchers finally arrive and we headed to the pool room. As I was walking past those guys to make my way to the pool room one of them shouted "Dallas sucks and so do you" out of nowhere and all of them errupted into laughter like it was the funniest thing in the world. So I smiled and I simply said well I guess we'll find out sunday. As soon as I said that this drunken baffon walks up to me and proceeded to point in my face and list the reasons why Tony is a choke and how Jerry is just a glorifed PR agent and so on. now I haven't been drinking yet because if I was the conversation wouldn't have lasted as long as it did. Anyway I started to to call out McHeart-throb and Westbrook on how they haven't played a full season in god knows when and the more I talked the more others in the bar started to laugh at this guy and that made him angry. Chalk this game up as a loss. Don't tell Weaver though, he's friggin' awesome.
Yes he is :yay
LOL at R. williams, fagrin hoyda
If I thought there was a chance in hell he'd be on the roster next year, I'd ask for a Weaver jersey for Christmas.
nice play by jordan
Spoooooooooooooooooooon
Weatherspoon has been a very nice addition.
Thank god for Witherspoon.
run the motherfarging ball this time
Roy Willams has to be the softest WR in the game
McNabb has decided to put this game on his own shoulders, which of course throws off his aim downwards.
COME ON DMAC............mother farger
I love worm burners. They complete me.
looks like they're trying to get peters back on the field. even if he doesn't come back tonight, i'd imagine it's not overly serious otherwise he'd already be in the locker room.
Jesus Christ, Andy!
Run the ball. icehole.
Peters already seems to be more tape and plastic than man. That's fine for a turnstile, but not so much for a LT.
holy shtein Avant
wow, great farging catch!
Tom fargin Selleck
there you go.
Celek with his own nice catch and fight for extra yards. Nice to see.
New left tackle? LETS THROW IT DEEP!
SHADY Sighting
shady runs with the football like it has swine flu. someone should mention to him that it's not really made out of pig skin and it's ok to hold it close to the body.
still a nice run though.
how the farg was that not a flag?
Stacy Andrews got pwned on that one.
Raitliff walked in on that sack. Nice whiff.
Stacy Andres...go farg yourself. Terrible attempt.
Come on, defense...its Toni Turnover time.
Asante is fixin to get himself a pick
Romo is building himself up for the big December letdown. One of reasons I'm calling this a loss.
Donovan's going to be sore tomorrow
lol @ the cowboys running the wildcat more betterer than the eagles.
Prediction's for McNabb's stats tonight? I'm gonna go with 13/46, 180 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Two NFC East back that no longer look intimating - Barber and Jacobs
Babin with 3 sacks in 3 games!

i thought they wernt gonna call that
lol at marty saying there are two teams we have to run against
might want to add the raiders to that list, marty
Obligatory down wasted on Vick: 1
Vick..why why why.
WASTED DOWN
when you absolutely need two yards on first down... wildcat
Seven step drop with a patchwork line is awesome.
Damn, Celek is the man.... fat girl lips and all.
He's obviously gay, but Celek is a pretty good player.
looks like peters is trying to come back into the game, to get injured on his first play back

Good then
so let me get this straight.... the guy behind mcnabb gets the ball, and then HE throws the ball really hard into the ground?
So...will they score here? Dallas isn't doing shtein on offense and it'd be great to get a TD here and come out and have a solid drive after the half.

No no no no no. He runs a sneak and tries to pick up positive yards without throwing it.
awesome use of the 2min warning to draw up a play.
Reid: "See, I ran the ball. You can't complain now!"
Now I see why they don't run...because when they do, it gets blown up and they go right back to passing.
Great block, Justice....make it and McCoy runs for awhile
I'm a little surprised that Akers made that.
money akers. should be just enough time left for the cowboys to go down field and score before the half ends.

I sometimes think Reid hates running so much that he comes up with the most asinine runs he can think of and uses them when a conventional running play would work. Vick coming in is a perfect example of this.

I'll be a contrarian on this one. The defense will get a turnover, but too late and in too poor field position for the offense to do anything with it.
Asante is awesome at tackling.
That was so bad, even McNabb wasn't smiling.
Was that an 8 man pass rush?
Asante would dominate flag football.
Nice hussle by Hanson
lol @ this defense.
Who the hell is this new guy on the Cowboys and why is he raping the Eagles?
Phillips trying to show up Andy again with the clock management skills.
A sack here would be hilarious.
how many 3rd and longs has this defense allowed to be converted tonight? i can think of at least 3 off the top of my head.
Asante celebrating as the ball is in the air. He is an idiot.
damn near sacked him, which would have been awesome.

lol @ icing the kicker on a 20 yrd fg. andy just has to waste a timeout for no reason, doesn't he? it'd be wrong to go into the half with all 3.
Icing the kicker for a PAT? That's sad.
what a joke time what ...embarrassing
Reid realized he almost let a whole half go without blowing a timeout.
Atta boy fatty, freeze um.
Dammit, it didn't work Andy! Why didn't it work?!
10 - 6? Feels like 28 -6.
the only thing that feels good about this game is that wade phillips is on the dallas sideline.
Pathetic offensive half of football.
Tighten that shtein up.
And way to let Crayton run free, clowns.
10-6 = insurmountable lead?
This game needs more Vick plays and less Weaver plays.

This play they are showing...Maclin was open. It would have been a TD had 5's arm not been hit.
2-7 on 3rd down.
Andy Reid football right there, boys.

Except Weaver. He's dreamy.
I hope Reid gets SLAUGHTERED like a cow in the press.

mcnabb sucked a fat one tonight. missed a lot of open recievers.
recievers sucked a fat one tonight. dropped/deflected a lot of catchable balls.

He's out scouring bingo halls right now.
The FG is fine if you have a defense you can trust. Besides, you knew the offense wasn't making it on that 4th down play.
Can't take Reid and McNabb anymore either. Sometimes they look great, but overall too inconsistent to win it all.

I gotta disagree. We stopped them early on, but the second half they moved the ball on us. You have to take the shot there imo.
i had a bigger problem with kicking the fg instead of punting it away. the thought of going for it never entered my mind.
if akers misses that fg, dallas gets the ball near midfield. he didn't so the point is moot, but it was definitely a risky call right there. it's about the only one he didn't get burned on.

there are so many games I watch on an any given sunday, and they're really only a select few I will say to myself, "huh?" when it comes to a coaches decision to run certain plays at the appropriate moment. most coaches....the good coaches....have a fundamental philosophy that is played the right way.
and this is no shocking revelation to anyone at this point, but Im amazed Lurie can sit there in the booth, watch andy reid at work, hear the crowd curse and boo beyond belief and turn to his wife and say, "we got to get this guy an extension." hands down the biggest head scratcher of a coach I have ever seen in the nfl
That game zapped me of all emotion. I'm drained this morning.
when it comes to the decision to kick the fg with 4min left, i actually can say that it appears to be the right call. i questioned it as it happened but only because i felt a punt to try and pin them deep would be the better option. however, the thought of going for it never crossed my mind. it was 4th and 11 and the offense had been struggling to pick up yards all night. not to mention that this team has been struggling all year to convert 3rd and 10+.
you can throw reid under the bus for pretty much the entire game plan and his in game decisions except for deciding to kick the fg. because if the eagles defense could figure out how to get off the field on 3rd down and get the offense back on the field, they've at least got a shot to go down field for a game winning td instead of a game tying score.
The delayed draw to Barber, and their inability to stop it when they KNEW Dallas would run was infuriating.
They stop them and they have a minute chance to get it back and score fast.
As soon as he sent Akers out there, I knew it was over. No timeouts? Over.
They had to take a shot at converting there. And it would not have been 4th and forever had Shady not dropped a screen where he would have run for awhile or had McNabb not been tripped up with a pasture of green grass in front of him.
farging pisses me off

this would be so true and the right philosophy to use, but I cant remember the last time mcnabb has done this
I could have understood going for the FG if they had attempted the onsides kick. Asking this defense to get you the ball back at the end of the game, regardless of the number of timeouts, has rarely worked in the Reid years. They simply aren't built for it.

i don't understand why you pass so much when weaver was picking up 5+ yards every time he got the ball. i don't understand why you pass so much when your oline is getting bitch slapped around. i don't understand why you pass so much when your QB completes 50% of his throws. And the wasted timeouts, wasted challenges, stupid calls last night by Reid is the topping to the cake. He cannot win close games. He cannot close games. He is a fundamental retard, who doesn't understand the basics of the game. How many more games is this going to go on for? How many more seasons do we have to put up with this BS coach. I'm sick of it. This team has never been so bi-polar than I can ever remember. I agree completely. It's the exact same thing for the last 4+ years - we could probably just copy & paste posts from past years and they'd still be precisely relevant. Sad thing is, Reids gameplan would probably work with a QB more accurate than McNabb. It's mindblowingly baffling that Reid refuses to adjust the plan to complement the personnel

that makes sense as well. you could even argue that since they didn't have any timeouts left, the onsides kick would make total sense because if you recover, you've not only got a short field, but like 4 minutes left on the clock which would allow you to still work the entire field in the passing game and (ha!) run the ball.
Andy Reid is the worst game day coach of all time.
how washed up is mcnabb?
dood as nothing left in the tank. hes about as mobile as tom brady. and roughly 3000000000000 times less accurate.
why are people ignoring this?
Because you're wrong?

i dont think hes washed up...i think hes always what hes been...what did dennis green say...he is what we thought he is
which is a good but not great non clutch qb
he has 25% the mobility he had 3 years ago. hes done. hes brett favre.

And if he would just suck hard for 4 maybe 5 games straight then maybe he would be gone. Infuriatingly his streaky success late in the season entices Reid back every time like a cuckolded lover. So now to endure the botched mid-season in preparation of a skin-of-teeth late run which only presages crushing abandonment somewhere in the post season.
farging. Groundhog. Day.
he needs to be in an offense that runs first. he's average at best in this system. i've always been a mcnabb supporter, but its wearing thin. reid is the major problem. mcnabb is a problem, but mostly because of what he's asked to do. this year he has been horribly inconsistent so far. i fargin hate reid
It's true. But Reid is so in love with his big play offense and McNabb is his conduit to satisfy that fantasy. Until McNabb goes the torture never stops. (And at least we know that Reid will throw McNabb under the bus well before Reid gets the hook from Larry Fine (aka Lurie)).
So, in my little well-ordered world, extended suckiness from Mcnabb forces Reid to off-him thereby forcing Kolbsy (bc Reid is too stubborn to admit a draft mistake) which will force him to run a balanced offense so Reid gets to keep his inevitable extension for a bazillion dollars (from Larry) and not go back to Mormon land where he would have to explain the curious case of his sons.

even when he had mobility he wasnt really running anwyay...once he got TO and had that big year he really has limited the amount of times he leaves the pocket
With the talent we were all excited about that surrounds him, McNabb really shouldn't need to leave the pocket more than once a game. Of course, that's assuming that a decent amount of run plays are called, the offensive line holds up, and those receivers are catching passes that are thrown near them.
someone had mentioned that McNabb needs to be in a run first offense which I think is false. That requires you to be pretty damn accurate because youre throwing less.
also a lot of the media outlets have mentioned this a dozen times and its no secret to us or the opposing coaches....if the run game is not working (and reids run game is 1 hand-off per series if we are lucky) the first 2-3 series he abandons it completely--with a cool wildcat run play mixed in there. so now we are forced to watch mcnabb go against a cover/tampa 2 majority the whole game, force feed the ball to receivers and run for his life. stress free football to watch for you and the family
its not even the lack of runs. its the lack of movement and escape ability. case and point the 3rd down play sunday where he got tripped up with half the field open.
donovan is and has always been a mediocre passer. but his ability to run and turn sure sacks or losses into gains made him one of the better qbs in the nfl. thats as good as gone. and now hes in the middle of the pack with the other washed up has beens like hasselback and favre now.
hes had one great year in his entire career and didnt run at all...i think he might have even had the fewest rushes of any full season he ever played in 2004...
his mobility is more than good enough...his problem lies in being a quarterback who isnt a very good passer and that hasnt changed since day one...oh and being uncannily unclutch
hes easily a step or two slower than he was even two years ago. dood has been injured non stop since 2002 and that was farging 7 years ago.
the unclutch thing is mental at this point. like romo in december and january. mcnabb is a mental midget and the pressure and hate thatll come with his failing gets to him. i get the feeling he kind of likes it, gets off on it, when he gets to stand up on the podium and laugh about blowing another 4th qtr drive. like a haha farg you to the fans for mistreating him and booing him on draft day.
im so sick of him, his act, his incredible lameness and complete and total stupidity...get rid of him and reid now. i dont even care anymore. theyve killed me.

he clearly has self loathing issues and def gets off on feeling bad for himself...i would put my house on him having been breast fed for at least the first 3-4 years of his life...passafired until middle school and is still a bed wetter....mama mcnabb definitely didnt read parenting for dummies before having kids
ive also believed for a long time he 100% subconciously and possibly even a little bit conciously doesnt want to win a superbowl because it would mean eagle fans would have a title and he hates us
You guys should do profiling for the FBI
if thatll give me the power to run banner, reid and mcnabb out of town...then yes.
as soon as austin caught that pass i knew it was over.
no way was johnny clutch and the fatfarg that runs the team going to muster up a comeback.
Look at what this douche had to say about the other night...

I just came out of a meeting where Fan Conduct was discussed intently. The crowd on Sunday night was absolutely terrible. I want to first tell you that the Eagles have and will continue to have strict rules and regulations in place and will enforce those restrictions. There is also a text message system in place at Lincoln Financial Field and fans should not hesitate to text for help. Someone will be there promptly to aid.
It is an issue, and because of the late start and the excessive tailgating, it became worse for Sunday night. We apologize and will continue to work on improving the fan experience at Lincoln Financial Field.
:puke
Careful guys, you might use up your tailgating quota for the season!
Excessive tailgating? Please. Excessive suckiness maybe.
Lose the Series
Lose to Ohio State (badly)
Lose to the Cowpukes
all in 5 days.
What the farg do they expect after week of losing and a day of drinking?
what went on at the game that was so bad....seems like they are just searching for reasons to make the game day experience less appetizing
Someone might have booed or said, "Aww farg it."
Joe's kid was at the game and he had a blast. We had drunken strippers bending over the wall in front of us, drunks screaming at each other, and none of it was bad at all. In fact the kid was laughing about it.
Other than the loss I had a great time at the game especially beforehand. Goddamn we had some great food and drinks.
Pics of the strippers, or it didn't happen.
The tailgaitin didn't seem like anything bad went on....I was in in F2 and didn't see any violence or anything terrible. Just loud music thanks to DJ Greenman and drinking and icehole chants at the cowboys fans. I didn't see anything go on until during the game in the two sections next to me. A fight and two other groups of people escorted out by security. I can't imagine it's that bad every game though.
I walked out of that stadium about as indifferent as I've ever been after a loss because I've seen it so many goddamn times now it doesn't even faze me anymore.
Nothing will improve until Reid is gone.
So what was the offense that caused that comment?
Know what else was terrible Sunday night?
The farging Eagles.

i am at the point that i do not want to go anymore. two games in a row i was told by ushers to stop yelling at opposing fans. the 1st was the saints game when i was calling a saints fan and his buddy bobby and johnny bouche'. next was the giants game when me and a giant fan two rows behind me were talking trash to each and laughing. we were laughing !
who do i complain to when sandy-fishole fans are ruining my gametime experience with their disgusting liberal PC mentality ?
I've been yelled at by ushers at various stadiums in four of the last five games I've been to. Three times in Philly and once in DC. Three times I was chastised for standing. One time I was chastised for yelling... at fellow Eagles fans who didn't like that I was standing.
What a depressing development. The NFL has taken the balls out of the sport and the fans seem all too happy to waddle into line. Awful.
standing ? STANDING !? there's no standing in football stadiums !
i must be lucky because our section and the ones around us doesnt have that problem at all...its not like the vet where people are dumping beers on opposing fans but we were murdering these three giant fans two weeks ago to the point where they finally just got up and left in the second quarter and never came back
lucky you aren't in 227 because the nazis patrol us like a concentration camp.
its funny you mention that cause looking around the stadium the quietest parts of the linc always seem to be both north sidelines from like the 30 to the end zone
one person got booted in the last three games that i could see from the sections near us and it wasn't fighting.
soon they have a dress code at games.
Tuck in that jersey, sir.
kindly hold that pinky on your beer or we'll have to ask you to leave.
Did you roll up that program and stick it in the cup holder? C'mon, you're outta here.
ummm, excuse me ma'am ... that outfit was not approved by christina lurie ... i am affraid you will have to come with me.
I was up in the section and 3 older black guys were covered head to toe in Dallas gear
its one thing to wear that shtein to a game and cheer when your team does well, but to stand up the majority of the game and heckle eagles fans in their stadium you have to have a meth pipe in your back pocket....and he paid the price
QuotePereira admits error in Cowboys-Eagles game
Posted by Mike Florio on November 12, 2009 7:17 AM ET
When discussing earlier this week his team's inability to win close games, Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb partially blamed the outcome of the most recent narrow loss on an officiating blunder on Sunday night against the Cowboys.
In the online-only bonus portion of his weekly "Official Review" segment on NFL Network's Total Access, league V.P. of officiating Mike Pereira was candid regarding the decision via replay review not to move the ball after McNabb was stopped on a fourth-and-short quarterback sneak during the fourth quarter.
As Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth pointed out during the NBC broadcast, the fact that the play occurred near the midfield Eagles logo made it easy for the referee to identify the precise spot at which the ball should have been placed in advance of a new measurement, in order to determine whether McNabb actually had earned a first down.
Pereira agreed.
"I think I'd move it," Pereira told host Rich Eisen. (Not to be confused with "I think it moved.")
Pereira explained that there was enough evidence on the video to "establish a point" at which the ball could have been placed, in relation to the beak on the bird that has been painted on the grass.
He also said that, without the logo present, the ball could not have been moved. The presence of that point of reference made it easier to re-spot the ball, and then to bring the sticks back out.
"It might have made a difference," Pereira conceded.
And, given the specific circumstances at the time, that might have made a difference in the outcome of the game.
As the league continues to search for the new Mike Pereira, we're hopeful that the next guy has the same willingness to acknowledge areas in which the men in black and white can do a better job.
And I was finally calming down...
Like that cost them the game. McHeart-throb wast gettin it done call or no call
well to be fair he could have driven the team several yards and maybe akers hits a 52 yard fg
but still to say that cost them the game or to get mad about it now is pretty useless...i mean even if the eagles get a fg there to take the lead do you really have confidence that the defense would have held...i mean look what happened when dallas got the ball after the bad spot
