Title: Eagles - Patriots Game Thread
Post by: Rome on August 11, 2009, 10:02:38 PM
First glorified scrimmage of the season.   My testiculars are engorged.

PS: Here's a random shot of a girl in a bikini from WingHouse, my new sports bar for viewing Eagles games:

Along with Manneans out:

QuoteStacy Andrews will also be held out of the game for caution's sake, although he is improving. The other players who will not play Thursday night are Trevor Laws, Victor Abiamiri, Shawn Andrews, Brian Westbrook, Stewart Bradley, Cornelius Ingram, Kevin Kolb, Trent Cole, and Matt Schobel.

All before the first...preseason... game... of... the... year.

they changed that, that was the huge fight comcast and nfl network had.  nfl got their way and it's now on the regular digital tier.  cancel your sports tier and it will still be there.

Awesome.

Whoops... I checked in while watching the replay, so I guess Akers choked?

What I have noticed so far:

1. Injuries
2. Sloppy play (tons of penalties)
3. Sean Jones' terrible play on punt coverage
4. LeSean McCoy is a goddamn pimp
5. Leonard Weaver too
6. No pass rush
7. Bunkley and Patterson are a helluva tandem; love those two in the middle
8. Hate the Vick signing

Oh, and someone shut Hugh DOuglas' mic off. Dude doesn't shut up

The announcing crew got on Peters tonight. I watched the first 2 quarters over again and he played very well other than that one play where he got beat. Mays was excellent also.

McCoy was obviously really good and I thought Maclin showed good YAC ability.

Jack Ikegwuonu was terrible. Worst player on the field tonight.
Title: Re: Eagles - Patriots Game Thread
Post by: Tomahawk on August 14, 2009, 01:29:05 AM
I must have gotten caught up in the announcers hype because it looked to me like Peters got beat repeatedly before he got hurt.

What I gathered from the game:
1) Start Vick; McNabb blows
B) McCoy is a better halfback than Westbrook could ever dream of being
Title: Re: Eagles - Patriots Game Thread
Post by: The BIGSTUD on August 14, 2009, 01:35:24 AM
I thought so too originally but he was pretty damn good. Held up on blocks well and is swift afoot.

The announcing team actually got on a couple players who didn't do anything wrong tonight. That one play with Macho Harris, he wasn't even close to being the player who messed up. I forget who it was.

Sean Jones made some bad plays tonight.

Gibson has had a very good camp. They are going to have to create an injury to hide him on IR or else lose him, because someone will grab him from the PS.

Unless they trade a guy (Baskett or Brown).

Curtis
Pimp
Avant
Baskett
Maclin
Brown
Gibson

Avant has to and will.  He's got a role on this team and he plays it very well.  He's a lock to make the team.

Brown and Baskett are the ones who need to be worried if Gibson keeps coming along during the preseason.

Here's the current depth chart...

I think Brown is ahead of Avant only because they're trying to entice some sort of effort out of him during the preseason.  I don't see any conceivable way he stays on the roster come opening day, especially considering the money he's scheduled to make.

I watched the first quarter again today before heading out to do some yard work. McNabb had some of the ugliest throwing motions I've ever seen. He looked like he was trying to push the ball instead of throw it.

Just finished watching this game and I don't really have too much new to add:
Weaver and Shady looked excellent
O-line was terrible in pass protection, but must have been at least decent at the run since Eagles ran the ball well
Maclin, Gibson, and Buckley looked promising.
Lorenzo Booker is a waste of air.
If this team only keeps 3 QB's, I am much more comfortable with Feeley then with Kolb, but I don't think there is anyway they would admit their mistake this early.

Sam Rosen and Tim Ryan are horrible.

And Hugh was talking so damn much, babbling really, that the PBP guy couldn't even describe what was goin on. Although that may have been a good thing.

Herm had his pimp pose going on during the booth shots and it looked like the producers told him to stand up straight at one point

ha...yeah hugh was talking over everyone...he would go on some non sensical diatribe and finish it up by saying "coach"?

like he was talking to herm the whole time or wanted his opinion on what he just said AFTER he had just talked over him to begin with

i like sam rosen a lot...but im not sure who tim ryan is except that isnt he one of that group of ex lineman who all sound exactly alike and you cant tell apart

is he maybe the novelist guy?

He isn't doing color anywhere. He's on NFL Network's Playbook show last I saw.

Tim Ryan sucks as a PBP or color announcer whatever he is, but his show with Pat Kirwan on NFL Radio is great.

Sports announcers are collectively the least intelligent and most intolerable people on television. Which is remarkable since they are frequently retired athletes who were considered to be among the 'smartest' or 'most thoughtful' in their circle of professional athletes. Pathetic.

You don't watch enough television.

I think they may be the best in the business, and they do it without video content.
