Visiting tonight according to Spads
Can he play safety?
I think he did last year in Washington after they signed Hall.
pedal to metal!
33 years old...bad knees...a true Eagles type guy.
but dawk was to old and broken down to play
Awful.
The taterskins trash is the Eagles treasure.
This move angers me.
If they sign this washed up prick to play safety, I'm gonna farging lose it. Seriously, what the farg is w this organization?
Is it possible that its fanbase actually is smarter than the overpaid jamokes who run it?
Howie Roseman has been hard at work breaking down the tape.
Personnel GURU!
i swear to god youd think they are doing all this on purpose to piss the fans off...almost like city if youre gonna explode on us for dawk this is what youre getting...what other explanantion is there to let dawk and lito go then 24 hrs later bring in shawn farging springs...what the farg is going on with this franchise...two months ago they were a clutch drive away from the superbowl and now with 43 million dollars to spend to take that extra step towards a title this is what we get so far
I just remembered why I hate Springs...he picked off Hoying during the opening game vs. the Seahawks in 97' and brought it back to the house during a 38-0 win.
Watching that pick from the stands made me realize just how zesty Hoying was gonna be.
farg you Shawn Springs.
Somone post the clip of MURP (Josh Parry) smokin' that fool in Washington.

Springs sucks, but the way.

2005 all over again.
2004 they get so close...so they promptly go out and get Mike McMahon.
2008 they go close...so they promptly sit on their hands.
farging dumbshteins.
They're doing it just to piss us off, and it seems to be working.
if you dont think this FO has it in them to do shtein out of spite then you havent been paying attention...it would almost be better if they were doing this on purpose because it would mean they still possibly have it in them to go out and make good moves...if they are doing all this because they actually think its for the betterment of the team then we all are in deep doo doo

Do things out of spite? C'mon man, you're really reaching.
No, I absolutly do not think that the FO does anything out of spite. Sorry if I'm in the dark. ::)
havent seen the numerous players blackballed over the years for not accepting extensions at joeys number?...jason licht got canned this year for an accountant because licht wasnt a banner guy...modrack got aced back in the day for diagreeing with andy to much...just a few examples
these people want a tight inner circle of yes men and anyone that goes against them doesnt accept what they offer or pisses them off goes bye bye
pay more attention to the eagles and less to maryland basketball
pathetic they would even consider his old ass.
If they sign him as Dawks replacement it probably goes down as the most pathetic thing this organization ever did.
If he's signed to play CB whatever, let him come to camp and prove his worth.
he put a hit on this dude back in '83 that i'll never forget.
4 of the last 8 years, he's missed at least 4 games, and in 3 of those he only played half the year

pretty much, but with less moping
I have no problem if Springs is just brought in as a dime back or back up safety. And I wouldn't have a problem if they can bring in a good SS through the draft or otherwise and Mikell goes to FS. They still need at least another corner and 2 or 3 safeties anyway.
What happens to Jack Ikegwuonu now?
Considering that Dawkins is gone and Lito was traded away....I dont care if they bring in Springs or any other veteran to battler it out with Hanson.
Then again there are rumors, stupid rumors, that there is a Sheldon Brown to the Cards trade in return for Boldin. HAHHAHA

Here's the problem with that...
You've got Samuel & Brown as starters. Then you got The Wang as the 3rd guy who they just caked off.
Is Springs gonna sign to be the 4th CB and not play STs?
He is being looked at as a safety.
Shawn Springs? Really??
Well, I'm not going anywhere near the EMB, I know that much.
:-D
If he signs I can't say I didn't expect it.
QuoteQuote from: King Cole on February 27, 2009, 07:24:23 PM
It's going to be hilarious. The spin is going to be that he is too old and has nothing left, and 5 days later they will sign a 34 year old castoff from somewhere.
This can't be a serious thread???
So Springs can play FS but Dawkins can't. And there will be a different between 2/7.5 million guaranteed and the 4 million they will probably give Springs for a year?

I know it has no merit, but some around the league like Caplan think Springs is being looked at as a starting CB with Sheldon being shipped to Arizona in a deal for Boldin.

What, you don't even stop by to say hello? Well farg you too.
Okay, so we're trading Sheldon for Boldin, McNabb for Cutler, Hanson for a $5 footlong, Westbrook for the rights to Michael Jackson's next album, and this is after already trading Lito for a 5th. That about sum up the offseason?
You forgot the part about the Eagles letting Dawkins go to sign a more betterer cripple safety such as Springs to vastly improve the team next year.
:yay

Apparently, they'd be signing Springs to "get in there and compete" by playing some dime CB and some third safety packages. I doubt Dawkins would have accepted a role like that, and there's the difference.
Hey, it makes sense to Howie Roseman.

I'm sitting right here, you icehole.
I'd like to reiterate that Sheldon Brown is not being traded.
The Eagles could get Boldin, Fitzgerald and Ocho Stinko after that...and it wouldn't make a lick of a difference in this house. Dawkins and Brown in one offseason?
Our season tickets would be (already might be) history.

youre joking right...ill be jack walsh to sheldons jonathan mardukas and fly his out out to glendale if they can get boldin or fitzgerald (not happening) for him....oh ill take your tickets to please
Anyone saying they're getting rid of their season tickets because Dawk is gone is in complete kneejerk mode. I love Dawk as much as the next guy - in fact, I love Tra, Runyan and Lito too and even with the offseason transpiring as ugly as it has, there is NOTHING that will get me to cancel my tickets.

Look, the farging front office doesn't give a rats ass about us as fans. Handing over money to them becomes harder and harder to do every year they pull this type of shtein. This was like the straw.

And this is why they can continue to make whichever decisions they want. And if people did start cancelling their tickets en mass, and everyone on the waiting list said no thanks, they can pick up and move to San Antionio or some other city that will beg them to come. So either way, they're getting their money. You might as well go to the games and enjoy Kolb and 5th round RB in the backfield next year.

big bad sheldon brown is the untouchable in a boldin trade scenario...no..I dont think so
Presser was supposed to start at 12:30! What gives?!?!?!!
still signing on the dotted line.
springs as a vet dime cb & backup fs in case demps flops might not be horrible. the fo selling him as dawk's replacement would be.
Signing Springs is better than doing nothing at this point. If they sign Springs and then trade Sheldon, I might kill all of you in a fit of rage.

Springs: I'm No Dawk
Shawn Springs is not Brian Dawkins, the soon-to-be-34-year-old free agent defensive back said today.
"He's a guy that will never, ever be replaced in Philly," Springs said during a press conference held in conjunction with his Eagles visit, at NovaCare. "I think he's going to always be a part of this community. Brian Dawkins is one of those guys you could actually see in a Denver uniform and still think he's an Eagle ... We're a totally different style of game. I have a lot of respect for him as a person, moreso than a football player. He's a great man.
"I came in the league as a true cover corner, who can play safety besides, and who can blitz ... Brian Dawkins came in as a true safety .. that's like comparing apples and oranges."
But the Birds, still pretty well-stocked at corner despite the departure of Lito Sheppard, are looking for help at safety, clearly, and they've brought in for a chat a respected veteran with a lot of mileage on his clock. The comparisons will be hard to avoid, should Springs sign. He has visited the Patriots and indicated he might visit the Saints, as well.
Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson was on the Seattle staff when Springs was drafted third overall there in 1997. Springs said they had a detailed discussion today about how Johnson might see Springs fitting into the Eagles' defense.
"Jim mainly said, like, safety, and that was fine with me ... when I played for Washington, I was all over the field," Spring sad. "I wasn't a full-time safety, but we had a lot of packages where I was like a safety."
Stay tuned.
so basically they traded dawk for springs...what an abortion banner/roseman inc is

They haven't even signed Springs yet. Maybe they traded Dawk for no one.
Sign Springs, then trade him to Denver for Dawk.
No one suspects the Spanish Inquisition!
Guarantee the Eagles hold off as long as possible on the details of his contract (assuming of course he's signed)
If they only offered Dawkins 2/$5m... What do you really think they offered Springs?

They Eagles love players playing out of position so they will offer 2 years/7 million with 5 guaranteed.
I'm going with 2/$4.9m

They don't expect it, jackass.
Look, there's lots of reasons to sell them. You need the money, you can't afford them anymore, you have familial concerns that prevent you from going, you live out of the area... on and on.
But don't farging tell me you're going to give up the rights to the tickets because Joe Banner is a weasel or Jeff Lurie is a cheap farger who's more concerned with profits than Super Bowl wins. We as fans are better than that. We've been here long before those corksuckers slithered into town and we'll be here long after they've sold out.
BTW: Read this somewhere and got a chuckle out of it:
Shawn indicated that is where Jim envisions him IF Shawn signs here. I trust Jim's scouting report and his vision for the Eagles defense far more than any human being on the face of the planet.
Yeah, like Jimmy's offering up player eval's of Shawn Springs.
That was just Banner pulling a Weekend at Bernie's moment while Johnson was hitting the morphine.
just signed with New England.
WTF is going on here?
His agent read the clauses in the contract that Springs would have to fellate Howie Roseman twice a week and eat out Joe Banner's toe lint in order to receive any game check.
Ha! The Eagles miss out on Shawn Springs. This franchise is a disaster.
Good.
Thank god he isn't coming here. Bum.
all could-have-been Eagles must be mocked?
I've been mocking him for years now; he's cooked.
