Barely related:

I don't understand the animosity towards scientologists. Their absurd religion is no more or less plausible than any other religion. Aliens and reincarnation-jibber-jabber, it could be argued, are far more digestible than one omnipotent being that controls everything...

Wrong or not, when I find out that someone is one of those L. Ron Hubbard cult members, I lose a little bit of interest in their work. I heard Will Smith was on, and it was on my mind when I watched Seven Pounds.

I'd sup with a catholic a muslim or even a baptist before I would with a scientologist.   It's one thing to be a street cop, quite another to be a narc.  Scientologists are cultists whereas catholics are just suckers.  They're like the uber mumbo jumboists.  I just can't stand them.

I don't think anyone could make an argument that the Flying Spaghetti Monster faith has done any damage to its adherents.

I don't know, major excepted organized religions throughout history have been abused and misused to control sheeple. These days it's send all your money to the rev and he'll prey for you to be healed or feed the children in Africa while he lines his pockets. There was that crazy rev who moved his flock to south America and killed them all in the 70's. If the flying spaghetti monster has a flock to be taken advantage of at some point in its history some megalomaniac will plug himself in and take advantage for money or just because he likes girls bathed in spaghetti. Scientology can have the same problems as any other religion.

In December 1960 Hubbard was invited to play on Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation after Coleman had heard him playing withDon Cherry.[3]

Then in May 1961, Hubbard played on Olé Coltrane, John Coltrane's final recording session with Atlantic Records. Together with Eric Dolphy, Hubbard was the only 'session' musician who appeared on both Olé and Africa/Brass, Coltrane's first album with ABC/Impulse! Later, in August 1961, Hubbard made one of his most famous records, Ready for Freddie, which was also his first collaboration with saxophonist Wayne Shorter. Hubbard would join Shorter later in 1961 when he replaced Lee Morgan in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

Throughout the 1960s Hubbard played as a sideman on some of the most important albums from that era, including, Oliver Nelson's The Blues and the Abstract Truth, Eric Dolphy's Out to Lunch, Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage, and Wayne Shorter's Speak No Evil.[5] He recorded extensively for Blue Note Records in the 1960s: eight albums as a bandleader, and twenty-eight as a sideman.[6]

Hubbard achieved his greatest popular success in the 1970s with a series of albums for Creed Taylor and his record label CTI Records, overshadowing Stanley Turrentine, Hubert Laws, and George Benson.[8]. Although his early 1970s jazz albums Red Clay, First Light, Straight Life, and Sky Dive were particularly well received and considered among his best work, the albums he recorded later in the decade were attacked by critics for their commercialism. First Light won a 1972 Grammy Award and included pianists Herbie Hancock and Richard Wyands, guitarists Eric Gale and George Benson, bassist Ron Carter, drummer Jack DeJohnette, and percussionist Airto Moreira.[9]

Hubbard's trumpet playing was featured on the track Zanzibar, on the 1978 Billy Joel album 52nd Street (the 1979 Grammy Award Winner for Best Album). The track ends with a fade during Hubbard's performance. An "unfaded" version was released on the 2004 Billy Joel box set My Lives.

In the 1980s Hubbard was again leading his own jazz group, attracting very favorable notices for his playing at concerts and festivals in the USA and Europe, often in the company of Joe Henderson, playing a repertory of hard-bop and modal-jazz pieces.

From what I read her necrosis occured from septicemia. And the septicemia Origianlly spread from a urinary tract infection. And from what I understand almost all urinary tract infections occur from sexual intercourse - Somewhere out there is a man that killed this poor woman. A murderer is on the loose.

At least Harry got to see the Phillies win a couple. By Saam probably got pissed and pulled the plug on Harry - I came across this about Saam:

QuoteHe had the distinction of broadcasting for more losing teams than any other announcer and called games for 11 teams that lost 100 or more games, 19 last-place clubs, and not one pennant winner. In 1950 both clubs decided to allow live road broadcasts, and Saam was forced to choose. He chose the A's, and the Phillies won the pennant.

Author Jack D. Hunter died Monday (http://celebritydeathbeeper.com/9730021.html) at 87.

QuoteHis book "The Blue Max," published in 1964, was his first novel. It was about a German infantry corporal who joins that country's air corps. He sets out to shoot down 20 enemy planes and win its highest honor, nicknamed "The Blue Max."

The book was made into a 1966 movie starring George Peppard, James Mason and Ursula Andress.

The New York Times review of "The Blue Max" from March 1964 called the work a "briskly interesting first novel."

Farrah's not dead yet, but I think she's really close.

QuoteEarlier this month, the 62-year-old "Charlie's Angels" star was treated at a hospital for internal bleeding that her physician said wasn't directly related to her anal and liver cancer.

Spokesman Arnold Robinson said Tuesday that Fawcett is at her Los Angeles area home, where she had a weekend visit with Redmond O'Neal, her son with actor Ryan O'Neal.

The 24-year-old Redmond O'Neal was allowed out of jail briefly to visit his mother. O'Neal, who allegedly was caught with heroin while visiting a jail facility north of Los Angeles, was due in court Wednesday.

Allowing a son out of jail to visit his mother isn't exactly sunshiney news, unless she's on your list.

Ex-Flyer Peter Zezel (and my huge HS crush for years) is near death after surgery from the rare blood disorder that nearly killed him 7 years ago:

Zezel was a cool guy.  Hung out with him many times in Margate back in the day.

Plus he was in the 2nd greatest hockey movie ever made (Youngblood).

Rest In Peace, Zez.

Bonus: After this player was traded to Philly, he scored 2 goals and 2 assists in a game. What did the headline of the Daily News read the very next day?

Actor David Carradine found dead in Bangkok

The Associated Press

BANGKOK - Actor David Carradine, star of the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu" who also had a wide-ranging career in the movies, has been found dead in the Thai capital, Bangkok.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor. He says Carradine died either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but he could not provide further details out of consideration for his family.

The Web site of the newspaper The Nation cited unidentified police sources as saying Carradine was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room and is believed to have committed suicide.

Carradine was a leading member of a venerable Hollywood acting family that included his father, character actor John Carradine, and brother Keith.

Rumor alert:

David Carradine had a rope tied around his neck AND around his junk. And he was in Thailand...... My guess is either a) accidental suicide by auto-asphyxiation (or however it's spelled), b) foul-play by a sex professional, or c) accidental overdose during sex games with sex professional.

There's no way this was a "it sucks to be me" suicide.

I've also decided that no matter how I go, I really really hope it doesn't involve me being found with a rope tied around my junk.

Seriously though he made some amazing music. Too bad it took him dying for MTV to play some videos. I did not grow up in this country but all around the world the man was a GOD. Even as kids not understanding a single word he was singing I remember everything stopping and everyone just watching him when his videos would come on tv.

The man behind the world's biggest online Michael Jackson fan club has said heartbroken followers of the star have committed suicide because of his death. Gary Taylor, president and owner of MJJcommunity.com, said he understood the tragedies had mostly taken place outside of the UK but he believed one may have been British.

"I know there has been an increase, I now believe the figure is 12. I believe there may have been one Briton who has taken their life," he said.

I have to admit I've been on that fence too, and I'm weighing the loss of Michael against my anticipation of the '09 Eagles season, with the hopes AR will run the ball > 60% of the time thus giving them a legit shot at the SB. That hope is the only thing keeping me going.

Quote
Since Michael Jackson's death we've been covering as many of the stories as possible. This commentary by Steppin' Out magazine's Chaunce Hayden will certainly have a lot of the late star's fans riled up, though.

icehole OF THE WEEK: MICHAEL JACKSON

By Chaunce Hayden

It's time for the voice of reason. Michael Jackson was an icehole. There, I said it, and I'll say it again. Michael "creepy, boy-loving" Jackson was an icehole. Got a problem with that? Too bad. I refuse to jump on the "rest in peace, we love you, Michael" bandwagon and shed tears over someone who was so f-ing despicable. How quickly the world forgets or conveniently chooses not to remember.

Allow me to quickly recap the life of this troubled superstar: Michael Jackson was a pedophile. Michael Jackson was a drug addict. Michael Jackson abused his own children both physically and emotionally. Michael Jackson was a deadbeat who owed millions in unpaid bills. Oh yeah, and Michael Jackson could sing and dance like a motherf--ker. And now, he's dead. Boo hoo. What surprises me is how long this frail child molester was able to physically walk the earth. Let's face it; Michael, for all intent and purpose, had left the human race years ago as he morphed into one of his Thriller video characters before our very eyes. But like the "Emperor's New Clothes," the world chose to ignore the true horror of this self-mutilated beast.

For 50 years, this soft-spoken mummy moonwalked his way through life leaving a trail of victims in his wake. God knows how many brainwashed boys were befriended by the ghoulish performer with the lure of cash, toys, exotic pets and an alcohol concoction Michael cleverly called "Jesus Juice" to loosen 'em up before a night of debauchery. Imagine your own child lying in bed next to Michael wondering why the room is spinning while a wig-wearing 5'10", 115-pound grown man in clown makeup gropes at his innocence. Yet, we cry for this animal as if Christ himself was crucified before our eyes. Please, spare me.

Someone should have put Michael out of his misery many years ago. A stake through the heart would have been more merciful than to allow this half-human/half plastic thing to slither through his backyard amusement park, hunting for his pubescent prey. In the end, I believe Michael himself knew what he had become and made the choice to put a stop to the madness. While the word "suicide" has yet to be brought up between all the blind tears, it's my hope that Michael, in an effort to stop himself from hurting any other child, put an end to his own miserable existence.

I will not mourn the death of Michael Jackson no more than I would mourn the death of any pedophile that hunts down children for deviant pleasure...Regardless of his musical abilities.

Tonight, as I write this column, my heart and tears go out to those children who grew up much too soon thanks to the "King of Pop."

We are gagging.

OK...I see a few stories stating he was w his girlfriend, but as far as Im concerned, until the PD releases her info, theres no way for the media to be able to decipher exactly who she was...

Assume it was his gf? Sure, its pretty easy to do that - especially with thousands of media outlets all vying to be the first to break a story. Personally, I also assume it was a love triangle situation. Key word - assume; just as the media is doing.

I know it's slow, but all six lead stories in the Eagles section of Philly.com are about McNair, including these three:

- Death of McNair ruled a homicide

- Steve McNair's death ruled a homicide

- Tenn. police rule ex-QB McNair's death a homicide

Chrissakes, who's editing? Whoever it is, I'm glad for the info all in one place. Because based on the fact McNair was shot twice in the chest and twice in the head, I never considered homicide and had erroneously concluded that he kept making the same mistake while cleaning his pistol. Thanks Philly.com. [/rant]

QuoteSAO PAULO -- Officials say former world boxing champion Arturo Gatti has been found dead in a hotel room in northeastern Brazil.

A spokeswoman for the public safety department of Pernambuco state says the body of the former junior welterweight champ was discovered on Saturday morning in the posh seaside resort of Porto de Galinhas, where he arrived on Friday with his wife and 1-year-old son.

The spokeswoman said it was unclear how the 37-year-old Canadian died.

"There were no bullet or stab wounds on his body, but police did find blood stains on the floor," she said, adding that his wife and son were unhurt.

The spokeswoman, who did not provide further details, declined to be identified because she was not authorized to comment on the case.

Gatti retired in 2007.

his movies were great in the beginning:

ferris bueller, breakfast club, uncle buck, weird science, mr mom, nat'l lampoon's vacation, etc, etc.

i have no farging clue what posessed him to write FIVE farging beethoven movies or 2 sequels to home alone.  not to mention that flamming hot piece of crap maid in manhattan.

his career seems to have died when he was involved with the last "great" movie of his career, which was about 20 years ago.  took him long enough to finally catch up.

but his early work did produce some of my favorite movies.

If someone is going to go behind the back of a person they've sworn to be faithful too, and fool around with another for reasons non other than pure lust, I think it goes a long, long way towards determining what kind of character they have. Character goes a long, long way toward determining what kind of Senator one would be. Just as leaving someone to drown while you walk go home to call your lawyer, thinking not of the person you've left to die but only of yourself goes a long way toward determining what king of person you are.

People's Politician's personal lives, including their sexual decisions, hold no interest for me. I could not care less what a person does or who he does it with. Marriage is a silly and unnatural institution. It works for some people but for the vast majority it is a struggle just to make it work on basic levels.

Why are there so many divorces? Is it because so many people accidentally married the wrong person? Is it because only 50% of the couples in the country actually love or care about each other? No. It's because the societal rules around marriage are farging ludicrous and inconsistent with human nature. Judging someone by their ability to fight human nature by sleeping with (or even tolerating) the same person for 40-70 years is absurd.

she suredoes.  we have a pretty open relationship.  i'll admit though, that faithful wasn't the best word to use.  we're both extremely faithful and committed to each other but far from monogamous.  farging one person for the rest of your life is about as boring as it gets.

QuoteTed Kennedy's N.F.L. Prospects

After nearly 50 years of public service, there wasn't much about Senator Edward M. Kennedy's career that was not widely known. Until Saturday. In a moving remembrance at his father's funeral, the senator's son, Ted Jr., mentioned that the Green Bay Packers were interested in Kennedy when he graduated from Harvard in 1956.

Late in 1955, Packers Coach Lisle Blackbourn (he coached the Packers until 1957; Vince Lombardi took over in 1959 after a disastrous 1-10-1 season with Ray McLean as coach) sent Kennedy, who played what was then called right end — he wore No. 88 and was essentially a receiver — a letter.

"You have been very highly recommended to us by a number of coaches in your area and also by our talent scouts as a possible pro prospect," Blackbourn wrote to Kennedy, according to Kennedy's senate Web site.

Apparently those famous touch football games with his brothers at Hyannis Port were enough for Kennedy. He declined the offer, telling Blackbourn he planned to go to law school and "go into another contact sport, politics."

QuoteYou're on your own my little nightmare you cannot stay here
It's far too bright for you
If they attack you just lay there,
Play dead dear, it's your only hope of pulling through.

And seconds they seem like a lifetime.
A dream, recurring, a dream that can't come true.
And they'll pin it all on you
after all you've been put through.

"Sadie G. she's crazy, see?"
That's what the white coats say.
Now Ms. Susan A. you're losing
every opportunity to put us all away.

Now run along my little nightmare.
Your job is done here.
You've scared them all to death.
If they revive them just sit there.
Just smile dear. Make them thankful for every breath.

The sentence may seem like a lifetime,
a scream, that curdling the blood they found on you.
And your knives and clothing too.
Charlie's broken .22

"Sadie G. she's crazy, see?"
That's what the white coats say.
Now Ms. Susan A. you're losing
every opportunity.

Well they found you and they shipped you up the river the same way that you've bound and gaged.
You've shot and stab.
You tried to set them free, but they've thrown away the keys.

[Spoken:]
"He represented a God to me that was so beautiful that I'd do anything for him.
I'd do anything for God.
Even murder, if I believed it was right.
How could it not be right if it is done with love?
I have no remorse for doing what was right to me.
I have no guilt in me."

Whoa [x4]

Or not.

QuoteAgent says Orlando Thomas has not died
Posted by Mike Florio on October 28, 2009 10:39 PM ET
Earlier today, the Vikings announced that former safety Orlando Thomas died, after a five-year battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Former teammate Jake Reed tweeted that it wasn't true.

Now, Thomas' agent confirms that, indeed, Thomas has not died.

"It's not true," Mark Bartelstein said, per the Associated Press.  "He's still fighting as hard as ever.  I don't know anybody to fight a disease or illness the way he has fought this.  He's continuing to fight the fight and is cheering on the Vikings every day.

"Somebody put it on their Myspace page down in Crowley, La., and I guess the local media ran with it or something.  You know how in today's world once rumors start, it spreads like wildfire.  You know how people communicate nowadays.  But it's totally false.  He's sick, but he's good and and he's fighting the battle he fights every day."

And as the only team for which Thomas ever played prepares to play the Packers, here's an interesting fact.  As a rookie in 1995, Thomas intercepted Brett Favre in a 27-24 Vikings win that saw Favre leave the game with a sprained ankle.  He was replaced first by Ty Detmer.  When Detmer tore ligaments in his thumb, T.J. Rubley got the nod at quarterback.

UPDATE:  The Vikings have acknowledged the erroneous report, and they have issued an apology.

Chris Henry, while having his major faults, seemed to have gotten his shtein together and this was never more evident than hearing the news that he donated his organs that saved/helped the lives of a few people in need.

Say what you will about what a terrible person he might have been, this is what I'll remember him for.
