New York gets the #1 seed in the NFC

Tennessee gets the #1 seed and Pittsburgh gets the #2 seed

Why aren't those in the Philadelphia area getting TB/SD instead of Pitt/Tenn, considering how relevant Tampa's result could be?
Title: Re: 2008 Week 16
Post by: BigEd76 on December 18, 2008, 11:15:12 PM
Because the game likely decides the #1 seed in the AFC.........plus everyone in Pennsylvania is obviously a Steelers fan.

Indy comes back, takes a 31-24 lead, Garrard leads the Jags into the redzone on the final drive and gets sacked with no timeouts left.  Time runs out, Indy gets the #5 seed, and Jacksonville clinches last place in the AFC South...

In what bizarro universe do we inhabit where a Minnesota/Atlanta game is broadcast in more places than Eagles/taterskins?  I mean, I'm happy and all because it's been a while since I watched a game at the pub instead of at home, but still, most of the country is getting the Vikings/Falcons.

WTF?
Title: Re: 2008 Week 16
Post by: QB Eagles on December 20, 2008, 10:52:47 AM
Vikings/Falcons has huge playoff implications for a lot of teams... including the Eagles. Eagles/taterskins has a much lower playoff impact and isn't even supposed to be a competitive game. And actually the total population getting the Eagles game might still be higher... it's being shown in almost all of California, Texas, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Virginia, and in Miami.
Title: Re: 2008 Week 16
Post by: Feva on December 20, 2008, 10:57:11 AM
9-5 at 9-5 where both teams have the opportunity to clinch a playoff spot.  Features the Rookie of the Year, a Coach of the Year candidate and the best RB in the NFL.

vs.

8-5-1 at 7-7 where one team is hanging on by a thread to the last playoff spot against a team that's been pretty much dead in the water for half the season.  Features a player who was benched a month ago and some guy named Zorn.

Hell... I've been an Eagles fan for most of my life and I barely want to watch that shtein.
Title: Re: 2008 Week 16
Post by: shorebird on December 20, 2008, 11:13:45 AM
I never really get tired of watching the Eagles and taterskins. It'll be a great weekend for me if they win.
But.....Falcons vs Vikings should be a good game, a better game to watch than the former.

Potential freak weather games this week:

Green Bay @ Chicago: 0-5 degrees, 16 mph wind, will feel like -10 or worse
Miami @ Kansas City: 7 degrees, 17 mph wind, will feel -10
Buffalo @ Denver: 21 degrees, 7 mph wind, will feel 12
Cincinatti @ Cleveland: 25 degrees, 26 mph wind, will feel 9 PLUS 60% snow
Arizona @ New England: 32, 18 mph wind, will feel 21 PLUS a wintry mix of snow and rain
NYJets @ Seattle: 32, 7 mph wind, will feel 25 PLUS 60% snow

A lot of other games will be chilly and somewhat windy (including the Eagles game) and Oakland could get some good rain.
Title: Re: 2008 Week 16
Post by: QB Eagles on December 20, 2008, 01:07:11 PM
If Dallas and San Diego both win this week, what to we want to happen in the Falcons/Vikings game?

Falcons win:
Dallas is probably farged unless they beat the Eagles next week
Eagles must win out to make playoffs

Minnesota wins:
Dallas guaranteed in the playoffs
The Eagles get to play a Dallas team that cares much less than them next week
The Eagles could sneak in if they lose either week with some help from zesty teams

I'm kinda thinking we root for Atlanta in that scenario, and hope the Birds take care of business and farg Dallas out of the playoffs. Even though it technically gives the Eagles a better chance of making the playoffs if the Vikings win.
Title: Re: 2008 Week 16
Post by: BigEd76 on December 20, 2008, 04:51:12 PM
Tonight's Dallas game doesn't affect the Eagles if the Eagles win out.  It's the Tampa and Atlanta ones that do.  A Vikings win tomorrow is almost a MUST for the Eagles to get in...
Title: Re: 2008 Week 16
Post by: QB Eagles on December 20, 2008, 05:29:40 PM
Hey Easy, didn't you notice I was talking about a specific scenario? I'm saying if San Diego beats Tampa Bay, a Minnesota victory suddenly helps Dallas a lot more than it helps the Eagles. Assuming Dallas beats Baltimore, Dallas is locked into the playoffs* (but not locked into a seed) even if they lose to the Eagles as long as both Tampa Bay and Atlanta lose this week. Meanwhile, having both teams lose doesn't help the Eagles all that much more than if just Tampa Bay loses.

Obviously, if Tampa doesn't lose, we're rooting for Minnesota at 4pm without question.

*Technically the Bears could still farg them up, but I doubt it.

The Cowboys lose control of their own destiny. Atlanta and Tampa Bay are now in control of the NFC wildcard. An Eagles win combined with a loss of one of those teams this week sets up an epic Week 17 game at the Linc.

Also, New England's options are dwindling. Unless Baltimore loses at home to Jacksonville, they're going to need the eventual winner of the Week 17 NYJ-Mia game to lose to a weak opponent (KC or SEA) this week. Otherwise the cheaters are out of the playoffs.
Title: Re: 2008 Week 16
Post by: QB Eagles on December 21, 2008, 12:39:03 AM
Believe it or not, Carolina didn't clinch a playoff berth until that Baltimore win.
Title: Re: 2008 Week 16
Post by: BigEd76 on December 21, 2008, 01:07:58 AM
yup because they would've been 7-5 in the conference if they lost out and would've had a worse conference record than Dallas, Tampa Bay and Atlanta if all four teams got to 11-5.  Now that Dallas can't get to 11 wins, Carolina is safe.

Tennessee clinches the #1 seed in the AFC. Pittsburgh is the #2 seed.

Down 16-3 against the Rams with under 5 minutes left, SF now leads 17-16.

Miami has been in a shootout with KC in a game played in subzero wind chills... Miami now leads 38-31 with under 3 minutes left, and they are in KC's red zone.

Results I wanted to see this week, in order of importance:

Eagles over taterskins: obviously
San Diego over Tampa Bay: for the Eagles CHECK
Minnesota over Atlanta: for the Eagles
Baltimore over Dallas: for anti-Dallas and anti-Patriots reasons CHECK
Arizona over New England: for anti-Patriots reasons
NY Jets over Seattle: for anti-Patriots reasons
Miami over Kansas City: for anti-Patriots reasons CHECK
NY Giants over Carolina: for Eagles draft reasons
Tennessee over Pittsburgh: for anti-Steelers reasons (and fantasy reasons) CHECK
New Orleans over Detroit: for humor value CHECK
Bufallo over Denver: To keep the AFC West interesting

So far, so good.

Assuming the Falcons beat the Rams at home next week, there are 128 possible combinations in the NFC starting with tonight's game.

#1 seed = 64 Carolina / 64 New York (the winner of tonight's game gets this spot)
#2 seed = 64 New York / 32 Carolina / 32 Atlanta
#3 seed = 112 Minnesota / 16 Chicago
#4 seed = Arizona
#5 seed = 96 Atlanta / 32 Carolina
#6 seed = 64 Dallas / 32 Tampa Bay / 28 EAGLES / 4 Chicago

Denver/ San Diego announced as next week's NBC game, so it looks like ours will be 4:15 again

Boys and girls... the Eagles are a bunch of spineless Hoydas who couldn't play well in a meaningful game if (literally) their lives depended on it.  There is and, I suppose, never was any reason to believe in this team.

f'ing Packers blew another late win (blocked FG) and lost in OT

Rodgers is now 0-8 when his team is tied or trailing in the 4th quarter

That 0-8 stat looks bad, but I don't think Rodgers is the problem with that team. He's gonna' be a good qb in time, imo. He's pretty good now, just that his won loss record doesn't show it and thats the bottom line.

Their D has been giving up over 300 yds. a game and over 20 pts. a game. They had that game won last night and couldn't even execute a field goal when it mattered most. Bitches.

Yeah I watched the 2nd half of that game and Rodgers was playing pretty well. Their defense is terrible.

Bears have to lose to Texans or the Vikings lose to the Giants.

Giants will be resting their starters so I am sure Vikings win.

Bears win against Houston with the playoffs on the line.

To add insult to injury the Raiders will find a way to beat the Bucs but the freakin Bears will win.
