"We" must lose this game to get a better slot in the draft next year. MUST!
Run the table! Playoffs, here we come!
lol
Even if this team runs the table, the chances of making the playoffs are not good. It would, however, guarantee a few more years of Andy Reid. So yeah, Monday-Saturday I'll be rooting for this team to lose every week. Sunday will probably be different despite my best efforts. But I am resigned to the fact that winning these games accomplishes nothing positive.
The thing is, even if they lose out, Reid probably gets a pass. And McNabb will probably be sent packing even if they win out.
Like you, I root for laundry.
I can actually agree with that. I cheer for them to win when them losing out is probably the best thing for them as a franchise and for me as a fan with a rooting interest in them.
In terms of the actual game, I really need them to win this one because the thought of listening to my mongoloid of a brother in-law talking shtein about the Giants sweeping the Eagles again is just too sickening to consider.
He's a Giants and Red Sox fan, believe it or not. Plus he likes the Devils in hockey, so he's pretty much the worst human being on Earth.
Not to mention he's pegging your sister on the regular.
I'm married to his sister but I have no doubt you're right.
Oh, well in that case when he gives you shtein after the Eagles lay a big turd, remind him that an Eagles fan is balling his sister.
Losing this game shouldn't be much of a problem right?
The run D looked good against the Cards, because they run about as often as the Birds. I'll soil myself if the Eagles can take away the Giants running game in similar fashion.
But the only options are run the table and make the playoffs (and light Andy on fire) or lose out, fire Andy, and start rebuilding.
Stop. The Cowboys have 8 wins. The Panthers have 8 wins. Even if the eagles win out they aren't making the playoffs.
As long as Andy is set ablaze, I'm in.
FINE!
Maybe Plaxico can "accidentally" shoot Andy in the leg. And the face.
you guys do realize that even if they lose every remaining game on the schedule reid will no be fired right?
the chances of him leaving/being fired are about the same as the team making the playoffs.
still like rome and rjs said...come sunday i cant help but to root for them and get angry when they lose.
i say giants win by 2 TDs at least. unlike the eagles they will make adjustments from the first match up, bring pressure on mcnabb, take westbrook out of the game again, and throw even less than they did the first time and run the ball on every down.
but beating the giants would be great. i could walk into work and talk shtein for a whole week to my coworkers, cousins, friends, and random strangers in Manhattan.
Burress is going to have eight catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns despite not playing a single down.

holy crap i just heard about him shooting himself.
:-D :-D :-D
now the loss to the giants will be even more painful. :boom
Bullets bounce off Burress.
Make that 10 catches for 225 and 5 touchdowns. And he won't even make the trip to New Jersey.
ill be in manhatten for this game...should be quite humilating
You're assuming that people in New York care about the Giants or the NFL in general. They don't. Sports are a diversion in New York, not an obsession.

If the Eagles lose out I'm fairly certain Reid won't be fired. It is, however, likely that the team will not be significantly likely that the team will be any better next year if Reid is kept, and I can't see the Eagles keeping him if he has another shtein season next year as well.
I was listening to Ray Diddenger today and he said that he thinks that Reid still believes his system is working despite the last 3-4 seasons of evidence (which I thought was pretty damn funny how he worded it). Ray D said he got that feeling from talking to Reid and that if that is the case, ownership needs to think about going in a different direction.
All that being said, I just can't root for the Eagles to lose. Even if it is counter-intuitive.

True on all points.
yeah i live in queens. all my co workers and cousins and friends all grew up here loving the giants and hating the eagles cowboys and taterskins.
i had to deal with them after last time. a sweep would be very embarrassing.
but at least now i just reply and say PHILLIES!
No Burress. No Knight.
No difference.
even if the birds stick to a game plan like last week, I can't see them beating the giants. too big, too strong. i hope they win, but then again a better draft pick would be nice. who am i kidding, reid will draft a bum. this team is farged until reid is gone...god what a broken record this is
wtf
9-point underdogs, O/U 45.0
That seems generous...
With 3 extra days to gameplan and rest/heal I actually think this game will be close. 9 points is a tempting number...
Agreed. The less time Reid has to figure out ways to outcoach himself, the better.
Quote from: rjs246 on December 01, 2008, 08:28:00 AM
With 3 extra days for Reid to forget how a balanced offensive attack worked, he'll ignore the run again and this one'll be over by the end of the 1st quarter.

i dont think its that...
i laugh because reid already has his gameplan for week 8 of next season much less for this sunday
That's all very hilarious, and I tend to favor your sarcastic approach to this game, but I do think the time off gives the Eagles an advantage. Probably not enough to actually win the game, enough for a 9 point spread to be pretty tasty.
none of anything i said is the least bit sarcastic...if you had just left it at the injuries healing it would hold some legitimacy....but the gameplan thing is hilarious
if the eagles cover or even win it will because the giants had an off day not because of an extra 72 hrs of andy reid gam planning
Preparation has never been Andy's weakness. Adaptation is his weakness and is the reason that he is consistently out-coached. Extra time for him to prepare has always benefited this team. Fact.
how much preperation do you need to run the same patterns youve been running for 10 years and to throw to those patterns 50 times a game
cincinnati and baltimore knew exactly what was coming from andy...you think a division rival whose defense is coached by a former eagle assistant is gonna be out prepared by andy friggin reid......get real
Andy Reid has been the same awful coach that he is now for 4 years or more, right? Stubborn. Pass-happy. Unable to adapt his gameplan. Right?
So why is it that EVERY game he's ever coached with this team where he had extra time to prepare he has won? I want the guy fired too, but give me a farging break. At least acknowledge the few things he's actually good at.
Quote from: rjs246 on December 01, 2008, 09:46:48 AM
So why is it that EVERY game he's ever coached with this team where he had extra time to prepare he has won?
Regular season only?
when every team in the league knows what youre gonna do you are not good at preperation
i think youre confusing the fact that he is so bad at in game adjustments that it must mean hes a good game planner...hes bad at both even if hes worse once the whistle blows
He's won every playoff game where he had a bye. And the superbowl, which was an abortion to watch, was closer than it ever should have been.
Andy Reid needs to die in a fire, but for christ's sake, give the guy more time to prepare than his opponent and he has consistently won.
No.
Fine. He's also bad at eating food and ignoring his children, I hear.
That guy can't do anything!
his bye week record is overrated as well
hes only beaten one over .500 team after a bye week other than the rams in the last week of the season when they sat all their starters...the schedule has been more than kind coming off a bye for reid
He also used to be great in prime time games. Not so much since December 2006.
9 point spread = profit.
Here's why you can take the Giants -9 (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles/20081201_Sam_Donnellon__Distaste_for_run_makes_Reid_dinosaur_among_West_Coast_coaches.html)
QuoteSam Donnellon: Distaste for run makes Reid dinosaur among West Coast coaches
By Sam Donnellon
Philadelphia Daily News
Daily News Sports Columnist
HE HAS BEEN our mad scientist for a decade now, stubbornly trying and retrying his potion, still convinced, despite mounting evidence, that it will work better than all other NFL potions. "Efficient balance," Andy Reid called it Friday after the Eagles' ground-driven, 48-20 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Thanksgiving night, overlooking that, even on some of its best days, his air-friendly offense tends to waste a lot of material.
To those without a point to prove or a religion to defend, that is apparent more weeks than not, and becomes pronounced in close games, when precision tends to be compromised by inspired defenses. A run-first philosophy might look tedious, and be excruciatingly dull for long stretches, but even the smallest drive it generates allows your defense to rest, restock and recalculate, while taking a toll on an opponent that often reaps dividends late.
"I'm not going to sit there and bang my head against the wall by running the football every snap if I'm not gaining a yard," Reid said on Friday, and the contrast in philosophy with the team the Eagles are playing this Sunday couldn't be clearer.
The Giants love to run big Brandon Jacobs at you over and over again, no matter how well he's doing. His first carry in yesterday's 23-7 victory over Washington - on second-and-10 - went for 2 yards. Two plays later, he carried for 1 yard. He finished with 21 carries for 71 yards, but more than a third of that came from one run he busted for 23 yards.
Every 1 of those yards - often against an eight- or nine-man front - was like a gold coin. Eli Manning found man coverage out there, passed for 305 yards, had a huge day. The defense got long breaks to rest up and recalculate. Thirty-five of the Giants' 71 plays yesterday were runs, and they averaged 2 yards less per carry (3.1) than Washington.
But it was there, it was a threat, and it opened up New York's passing game.
Brian Westbrook ran for 6 yards on his first carry Thursday, gained 22 yards on his first four runs. No head-banging needed. You wonder what would have happened, though, had he been stuffed for 1 or 2 yards like Jacobs was yesterday.
Most of the other scientists from the West Coast laboratories recognize this and have changed their mixes over the years. Mike Holmgren, Jon Gruden, Mike Shanahan - the ones remaining have tempered their approach, run the ball to the point that some maybe have even changed their religion.
Other West Coast scientists - Steve Mariucci, George Seifert, Denny Green - are no longer part of the NFL landscape.
But Reid has kept his recipe pretty much the same, even when his team makes a case for change, as it did Thursday. If the run doesn't work right away, he will "dial up" more passes. If the passing game isn't clicking he will - all together now - "keep firing."
When it works, you get the disparity of a November college basketball score, when Duke uses a school like Georgia Southern as a toothpick. Or a shootout, like they used to have under LaVell Edwards back at BYU.
But here's what seems to jump out at you, at almost everyone but Reid. The Eagles are a team ill-suited to win the tight ones, because their offense is based on big plays more than time management, and because they have trouble running the clock out when they take a lead. Until the very end yesterday, the Giants never led the taterskins by more than 13 points, yet it felt like more. In contrast, the Eagles' early 14-point spread over the taterskins in Week 5 felt like less.
Imagine if Reid were patient enough to take three cracks from the 1-yard line against Baltimore two Sundays ago, instead of throwing on second down. Would the game have turned out differently? Would Kevin Kolb had started Thursday night?
"This is such a business of now," Reid said Friday, and I agree with him there. What I don't buy is what followed, responding to a "Where's this been all year" question.
"I'm not worried about the past," he said. "I'm focusing on the future here."
But he isn't, really, and that's the cold-water reality that follows even an uplifting game like Thursday's. He likely is playing the same quarterback for these final four games as he has for the last 10 years, running the same plays, using the same approach and schemes as he did when Bill Walsh was a figure in the NFL present, not a gloried name from its
storied past.
An extra 3 days of prep isn't going to teach the LBs how to tackle better.

Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow in the morning...then partly sunny with a chance of snow showers in the afternoon. Windy with highs in the mid 30s. West winds 15 to 25 mph. Gusts up to 40 mph in the afternoon. Chance of snow 40 percent.
That means two things: Akers shouldnt even suit up And Andy will throw 45 times
the more i think about it it also small advantages the birds
the weather will keep them from getting blownout...but at the same time the giants are going to ground game their defense into bolivian

QuoteWESTBROOK IN, BUCKHALTER OUT FOR EAGLES
Posted by Mike Florio on December 6, 2008, 1:28 p.m.
As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare to play a season-making (or season-breaking) game against the New York Giants at the Meadowlands, they'll have their starting running back, but they won't have his backup.
Sal Paolantonio of ESPN reports that Brian Westbrook will start, and that Correll Buckhalter won't play.
Westbrook had been listed as questionable with knee and ankle injuries. He missed practice on Thursday and on Friday.
Buckhalter is listed as doubtful with a knee injury. He didn't practice at all this week.
The Eagles currently are 6-5-1. If they run the table and finish 10-5-1, they'll likely secure a wild-card berth, edging out any 10-6 teams by virtue of their tie against the Bengals.
But if the Eagles lose only one more game, they'll end up at best 1/2-game behind all 10-6 teams, and likely will spend another season not in the playoffs.
I'm going to root for a tie.
You like disappointment, but we already knew that.

KILLA COLE
It's an unwritten rule that you have about a second after the clock turns 0. The official looks at the clock until it turns zero. Then he looks at the field to see if the ball has been snapped. Only if the ball is still not out then does he throw the flag. The process of confirming the zero and then looking to confirm the ball is still on the ground takes about a second.
wow a blocked FG
i think they are allowed a pause once the clock hits zero, because i see it all the time, the flag never goes right at zero
I wished for that to happened and it happened. Weird.

Ward could have dragged the Eagles line 4 yards on that play.
All this game is doing is pissing me the farg off that Andy once again waited until the last quarter of the season to start running the ball. Mother farger.

If Burress plays the Eagles get beat. Plain and simple.
amazing that this game could've been 23-0 or 26-0

Plaxico hasn't had either over 50 yards or more than three catches since Week 6. He had one catch (albeit a TD) a few weeks ago against the Eagles. You greatly overrate him.
That's some sloppy prevent D there.
way to give it up like prom night Hoyda you douchebags

They're still a game and a half out of the wild card and can easily win out without making the playoffs. WORST. CASE. SCENARIO.
So, let me get this straight... Even if the run game isn't working at first, good things can happen if you stick with it?
giants better beat the cowboys next week.
and yes FF this running game is a crazy thing. its hard to understand but apparently when you have a big OLINE and a talented RB, eventually they will start picking up positive yards.
also helped that they shortened the passing game too. no more deep balls. not that i dont want them to go deep from time to time but mostly they kept stuff short and simple.

Not really. If they win out all they need is Dallas to lose one of their games against NYG, Pitt, or Balt and ATL to lose one of their last 3 against STL, TB, or MIN AND that's assuming the Panthers and the Bucs both get to 11 wins.
If they win their last three they are probably 99% in. I still think it's a longshot to win out though. We'll see.
Romo throwing the interception to lose the game + Eagles beating the Giants and controlling the ball winning the time of possesion battle = awesome day of football.

damnit, i missed the game bc i was passed out (ha)
1st of all, we won and ran the ball...wtf.
questions:
who called the plays?
andrews in or still a case of the mondays?
why no catches for jackson?
looks like another season where we just miss the playoffs and pedal to the metal in another off-season with the fat farg.

Marty. Not that it matters. He called the plays in the Bengals game too.

It was a very windy game and was a bad day for the long ball in general. I think there was only one deep reception for the Eagles, by Curtis. All other receptions were within 15 yards. The whole offense went through Westbrook and to a much lesser extent LJ. Jackson was ineffective on two end-around attempts and on punt returns.
Speaking of Nick Cole, he played really well. He was blowing guys off the ball and looking to hit a linebacker next.
For the record, I had ten pounds worth of a free bet in an online account. I put on Birds to win the SB at 40/1! Worth a shot, I reckon.

33 trick plays. Plain and simple.
thanks qb.
as far as who's calling the plays, even a broken clock is right twice a day. how can you call a game like the bengals and call a game like this giants game?
everyone was right (i was wrong) that we'll probably have the best record that *just* misses the playoffs and then we know the drill from there. on a side note, i feel considine played well the last two (not including this game bc i didn't see it) played well on teams. this team always seems to have to hit rock bottom, and then somehow play lower than that in order to start winning some games and by then it's too late.
So, thanks to the prevent defense letting the Giants score, the Eagles finally won a close game for the first time in about two years.
I turned to my boy as the Giants were about to try the onsides kick and said, "Do we even have a farging "Hands" team?"
I guess I got my answer.
Quote"Why did I keep it?" Brown said. "Who would think that I would be on hands team recovering the damn football? I'm going to put it on my highlight tape."

Jackson's probably hit the rookie wall at this point. Don't expect much more from him other than a play here or there for the rest of the season.

For this team a run play
IS a trick play...
I like these new neat little gimmick plays where Donovan has to get out of the pocket and gets a nice positive gain out of it, instead of trying to force it in to a receiver that is double-covered or eating it for a sack.
TRICKY.
i know everyone hates him, including me, but LJ Smith made about 2-3 really good plays yesterday.
the first where he juked Philips and picked up the first down. the 2nd i remember was also on a 3rd down..where McNabb did a fake hand off on what seemed like a counter play and then threw to LJ in the flats who picked up the first.
even on that double fake screen play to LJ....he made a good move to pick up the yards after the catch. if he could offer this kind of productivity each game it would be great.
but part of it, i think, is that they scaled back the passing game a lot. they were not even looking to go deep much and everything seemed to be much shorter. no more 20+yd patterns. maybe that's what they need. work the ball more to Westbrook and the TEs. set up the play action and try to hit Desean on a deep ball here and there.
Quote from: FastFreddie on December 08, 2008, 06:52:00 AM
Speaking of Nick Cole, he played really well. He was blowing guys off the ball and looking to hit a linebacker next.
He was getting schooled early in the game with the stunts and blitzes, but I agree, as the game progressed he was much better. Clearly a much better run blocker than pass protector at this point.
Maybe if Reid ends up with enough linemen that are better at run blocking, the Eagles will win more games in that fashion.
Crazy stuff, I know.
I give LJ credit for making the first down play against Phillips sure, but he was carrying the single handed, waiving it out into space like it was a baton in a relay race...he got lucky that he didn't fumble
I want him gone daddy gone

This is what they needed to do all season, we all know they needed to run the ball more but even more than that they needed to shorten the passing game and stop trying to force the ball downfield. The WCO was built on YAC.

this guy?? (http://www.concretefield.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1445)
Agreed on LJ making plays, nice to see him wake up. But like Dio pointed out...he still, 6 years later, does not know how to protect the football.
Cole was whipped by Robbins and Tuck early on, which was somewhat expected. They picked him as their guy to beat since he was new and thats what they did, a credit to Cole for adjusting and playing well from the 2nd quarter on.

I find this hard to believe
i have a feeling if plex didn't decide to go rambo on himself, he would have had 5 catches 80 yards 2 td's and the tailspin would start. instead it's going to be win as many games as you can while still missing the p.o.'s and reid for another few / 10 years.
I think my new outlook for the Eagles will be that I will think they are going to lose every game, and as they did against the Giants, they will win. Beautifully simple.
Looking at the stat sheet shows McNabb with 5 carries for 20 yards. 3 of his carries were for 1st downs.
Just saying.
QuoteEagles coach Andy Reid will never single out one of his players for blame, but he did give a clue yesterday as to what went wrong on the blocked field goal that resulted in a Giants touchdown at the end of the first half.
"That one . . . we had new people in there, so there was a little mix-up," Reid said.
The new person was Winston Justice, who allowed Justin Tuck to squeeze past him and block the kick. Justice replaced the injured Max Jean-Gilles in that spot.
It was still the best game Justice has ever played at Giants Stadium.

Reggie Brown did not dress Sunday, but he did have one TV cameo appearance during the Eagles' victory. After a wide-open Domenik Hixon dropped a 50-yard pass from Eli Manning that hit the Giants receiver right in the numbers, Brown could be seen laughing and clapping on the Eagles' sideline...

if I was Brown I would of been cold-calling my ass of on the sideline phone until somebody had a workout for me next year
If not for DeSean Jackson, the Eagles might be better off doing whatever it takes to trade the hell out of the 2nd round. 2002 is the one exception. They got L.J. in 2003, but could have had Witten in the 3rd round.
I was laughing pretty hard when I saw Reggie on that replay clapping after the Hixon drop, classic
