Take a shot at predicting the final 53.
I'm sitting at 55 right now...having trouble with figuring out who goes...it is tougher than previous years.
* do they only carry 2 QBs? Take a real risk that if McNabb goes down that Kolb can step in?
* do they cut loose Baskett or Lewis?
* Maybe Mike Gibson goes, but that leaves them without a backup C.
* do they cut Hunt and only go with 3 backs?
* perhaps Studebaker goes and they risk him going to the PS
Originally I was at 57 with Togafau and Considine in there. It's either going to be Considine or Reed. I think they can go with 4 CBs because of Demps' ability to play corner.

From Phreak's list, I think Studebaker and either Hunt or Lewis don't make the Final 53..

There's going to be three QBs on the roster opening day.
Quote* do they cut loose Baskett or Lewis?
I think they have to, and my guess would be Baskett.
Quote* Maybe Mike Gibson goes, but that leaves them without a backup C.
Yeah and I think they'll want to have ten offensive linemen on the squad. Talent-wise it seems like there are a lot of bubble guys on the OL: Gibson, Cole, the King, and Justice to name a few. So it's tough to figure out but I think the ten you listed are a reasonable guess.
Quote* do they cut Hunt and only go with 3 backs?
Probably. If Hunt is as effective in the next two games as in the last game, they're going to have to take a hard look at CBuck and Booker, because I think they want to keep it to three.
Quote* perhaps Studebaker goes and they risk him going to the PS
I think Boiman will get his slot because of the special teams angle.

I think it'll be Considine. The feel-good story of the roster will be McDougle, not Reed. And I think they'll want five CBs, with Arrington getting a shot.
Look out for Jed Collins at FB.

His main competition was Kimo von Oelhoffen (already cut) and Montae Reagor (arthroscopic knee surgery). And he had a good camp.

Good move on the Hunt to FB thing.

Stu.
Pid.
This is a surprise? McDougle has been a force all summer long. Clemons has barely played and has looked zesty when he has. He is a journeyman type player who had a pile of sacks last year through either luck or talent. It's lookin' like luck. When he was signed I think I mentioned that he could have ten sacks or none, and so far, none is not a bad bet.
I still expect them to carry Clemons, but getting rid of him makes it a lot easier to keep Hunt or to keep the number of CBs and OLs that the team typically likes to keep.
With Abiamiri hurt and the way they rotate DL, I would be very surprised if Clemons got cut. They would just go short somewhere else. Like two TEs or one less offensive lineman.
His potential based on what he did last year with a crappy-ass team makes me think he's got something in him. 15 solos and 8 sacks probably isn't luck, although it is possible that it was situational. Maybe he hasn't masted the wizardry of the Philly defense schemes or something, but I Think they have to give him a chance to show himself given a little more time.
If he's still unproductive a quarter to a half through the season, bench his ass, and cut him when they can. I know it was a 5 year deal signed with Philly, but forget the money. And the team can probably afford to drop one of the many Cbs or OLs.. :-D
Reagor says he's been told by Reid that he'll be cut
wilson
clemons
klecko
could all go
way to rack up in free agency
DTs Bunkley, Patterson, Laws, Howard? DEs Howard, killa, Parker, McDougle, Abiamiri, Smith to IR? I wouldn't mind keeping Klecko around and for some reason I think Clemons sticks because he's that undersized guy they can lineup all over the field. I really hope I'm wrong but I see them cutting McDougle and him catching on with a team like the Giants and doing well. I've seen enough of him at TC and in the preseason games to think he can contribute this season as more than just a pass rush specialist.
I wonder if we take on less linebacker to keep McDougal.
I can't believe I am talking about ways we can keep McDougal.

I like McDougal. Dook hasn't done junk, but I can't hate on a guy that leveled Eli like he did so many years ago.
In conclusion, cut everybody else on the team (waive; not stab) in order to keep McDougle.
McDougal making this team is a nightmare scenario.
nonsense
Well the team went out and signed/drafted a number of 'fastballs' and it appears as though they won't make the team or have any impact which means that the team is forced to keep McDougal despite his utter inability to play. Awesome.
ill believe in mcdougal when i see him perform in the regular season but hes been super impressive this month and you have to keep him
He should have been gone two years ago and now young promising players are going to get cut instead. It's farging ridiculous.
2008 is the only year that matters and he clearly deserves to make it this year
and since when are the eagles bubbling over with young promising players
who is gonna get cut for mcdougle that would have you pissed off
Everyone.
what about Scott Young.
Good point.
QuoteGLECKO WILL MAKE TEAM
Jim Johnson provided some stunning news this morning at the NovaCare Complex.
"A guy by the name of Glecko" is going to be the Eagles' fourth defensive tackle, the defensive coordinator said before practice.
Scour the roster all you want, you won't find a guy by the name of Glecko, but we're pretty sure that Johnson just hasn't learned how to properly pronounce veteran defensive tackle Dan Klecko's name yet. That doesn't mean Klecko hasn't caught the defensive coordinator's eye.
"He looks pretty good to me," Johnson said. "He had a good game the other night and he's had a great camp. He's got such great quickness and good football sense and he loves to play. He's a high-motor guy."
Klecko, a sixth-year veteran from Temple whose father Joe was a four-time Pro Bowler with the New York Jets, wasn't the least bit concerned about Johnson's mispronunciation of his name.
"Jim can call me whatever he wants," Klecko said. "He's the boss. I'm not going to call him out on it."
Klecko and rookie Trevor Laws will open the season as the backup defensive tackles behind Brodrick Bunkley and Mike Patterson, but that still leaves Johnson and the coaching staff with some difficult decisions to be made at defensive end before Saturday's final cut.
Seven defensive ends -- Trent Cole, Juqua Parker, Victor Abiamiri, Darren Howard, Bryan Smith, Chris Clemons and Jerome McDougle -- remain on the roster and it's possible they could keep six of them.
CURTIS SPEAKS. Receiver Kevin Curtis made his first appearance in the locker room this morning since undergoing surgery Thursday to repair a sports hernia. He said he is confined to walking in the embryonic stages of his rehab from the surgery and there's no set timetable for his return.
Dr. William Meyers, who performed the surgery, told Curtis he should not compare his surgery or recovery time to other players who have been through the same or similar procedures.
"Each injury is different," Curtis said. "They're not all exactly the same. There are different time frames, so I'm not trying to compare myself to other injuries. I'm going by how I feel and I'm going to get back as soon as possible."

None of the cuts surprise or upset me. It's been a long time coming for Moats, and Graham clearly fell behind Arrington this preseason (and it's not even clear that Arrington will make the team). The rest of the guys were pretty much camp fodder.
Kinda surprised at Paschal. Not really but a little.

Damn...McDougle getting cut is stupid. He's going to end up in NY with Spagnuolo and have a decent year. Watch.
And Gasperson over Scho-boat as the 3rd team TE? Interesting.
MacDoogal can cram it with walnuts.
Assuming what goeagles99 says is true:
I didn't think there would be any way to keep Hunt, McGlynn and Gasperson, but I'm glad. All of those guys worked their asses off this preseason, and the argument for cutting them was more about numbers at their positions than talent. They still might end up getting cut depending on what becomes available after the deadline though.
Wilson is an obvious cut. Only a little surprised over the Scho-boat, but he won't be missed.
I wouldn't be shocked if MJG went to the IR, so I think that dumbfarg Young is gonna make it. :boo
McDougle is frustrating as hell. He waited until too late to show something, the Eagles seem damned either way with him. DE is the hardest call on the team, with all the questions surrounding him, Clemons, Abirami, and let's not forget Howard. A buncha flakes at DE.

Jed Collins (FB) Good on special teams, but not enough on offense

Nick Graham (CB) Not enough improvement from '07 rookie free agent
Jamal Jones (WR) Hard-working receiver slowed by injury in preseason
Mike Marquardt (DT) Good-size, Had sack in preseason finale

Ryan Moats (RB) Speedy back should find job, too much depth on roster
Marcus Paschal (S) Rookie free agent last year, has game experience

Stefan Rodgers (G) Another veteran caught up in numbers crunch
Justin Roland (LB) Returned INT for TD against Carolina
Andy Studebaker (LB) Small-school defensive end learning linebacker spot
Pago Togafau (LB) Entered camp as backup MIKE, but lost job to Joe Mays
Kris Wilson (TE) Former second-round pick never broke through
Scott Young (G) Experienced reserve should find job pretty quickly

Both Considine and Reed are much better at safety than Demps, at least this year.
I recommend staying far away from the Heckert conference call on PE.com. The only thing in there that could be possibly construed as information is when he says that the team still has realistic hopes of Clemons and MJG being available Week 1, and even that is almost certainly bullshtein.

So he was wrong about what the Eagles eventually decided to do with a couple of roster spots. That doesn't mean he's not knowledgeable about the team. But if his being wrong about a couple of roster positions makes you feel better about yourself, then whoopty farging doo for you.
He was wrong about the shady Gasperson filling in for Schobel idea, that's it. Maybe the Eagles actually tossed that idea around before sobering up; we'll never know.

One big suprise to me this pre-season has been Joe Mays. I know all the local media has been talking about how good he looks, and I have to agree. He is very quick to the ball and doesn't miss tackles. Considine could take tackling lessons from this guy. If he plays like he has during the regular season I can't see any reason why he won't work his way into a starting role. Also, he looks to be a good reason that our coverage on kicks has been so much better than last year.

Jerome McDougle and his family spent last night in North Jersey talking to the Giants.
I can't say for sure that he has signed with the Giants but I can almost guarantee it.
At 10:30pm last night McDougle and his family were on the turnpike headed to North Jersey . It seems that Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has wooed him to New York.
McDougle was released even though he had a great training camp and preseason.
He never lived up to his draft position and potential with the Eagles but it seems he's going to get the chance to prove himself in New York.
wow, i'm so scared
It would be just the luck of the Eagle fan to have him do well and come back to Philly and sack McNabb.
it would be a good pickup for them... :boom
Yeah, well, at least Burgess was in a different conference. I thought they should eat the dead cap space and boot Clemons. It's not like he did a farging thing all pre-season.
it came down to admitting their 1st round pick of a few yrs ago is a bust or admitting their prized FA was out played by this bust.
i bet clemons gets about 3 sacks all season.
i also cant wait to see hunt miss a crucial block or blitz pick up leading to mcnabb getting drilled.
You'll have to look very carefully, since he'll probably be on the field a total of 5 plays all season.

I don't get on with the Greggie hate, I'm glad he made the cut.
saving him for when we play the pats in three years.
mcdougle cut was horseshtein
Victor should have been IR'd. He'll rush back and snap his wrist again.
Quote"This is so crazy for me. I just can't believe it," Daniels said. "The one thing that I do love about both teams that I've been on is they both hate Dallas. I'm really cool with that. Even though I'm an Arkansas kid, I've never really liked the Cowboys. Fortunately enough, I've been on two teams that hate the Cowboys."
He should know endearing himself to the fans won't do any good. Reid and co. don't give a shtein about us.
isn't that what barksdale said last yr? something about hating the cowboys and giants?
Abiamiri jumped on the available #95, his Notre Dame number
and i just bought a victor jersey
Bryan Smith needs to jump on a new number. #63 sucks for a DE.
