Here's the link to the full story (http://www.thebulletin.us/site/index.cfm?newsid=19751948&BRD=2737&PAG=461&dept_id=576361&rfi=8). Was Samuel a product of the Patriot's system? Does his style of play not mesh with the Eagle's defensive style? Is his contract going to be a problem with other players?
QuoteYou can believe that veteran cornerbacks Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard have been on the phone with each other, talking about the fact that the Eagles gave Asante Samuel "the bank," even though he's not head and shoulders better than them and can't play pure man-to-man defense as well as they are able to.
I could just see their faces as Samuel was beaten a number of times by some of the team's backup receivers in 1-on-1 drills this week. There had to have been some emotion coming up in Sheppard and Brown from the fact that the Eagles had given so much money to a guy who hasn't made a single play for the Eagles, as of yet.
All-Pro and all, Samuel had free agents who are long shots to make the team running right by him. The 1-on-1 drill clearly is not his game.
QuoteSamuel also doesn't seem comfortable coming up into the press technique. He seems to be more at ease when he's playing off the receiver and looking into the backfield to get an idea of what type of route the receiver is going to run.
He's much better when he's coming up on the pass route, rather than turning and running. He wasn't especially strong with his jam of the wideouts when they came off of the line against him when he was in press technique.
I don't want to make more of the matter than it deserves, but Samuel is clearly more of a system left cornerback than Brown or Sheppard.
QuoteWho did David Tyree beat for a touchdown in last year's Super Bowl? It's amazing that the Giants went after Samuel, even though Ellis Hobbs was on the other side.
Hobbs gets beat all the time and got beat for the Super Bowl clincher, but Tyree had beaten Samuel earlier for a score.
i said this from day one...it wasnt a terrible signing but because hes not apreciably better than sheldon or lito it was a completely unnecessary signing and may cause more harm than good
According to GCobb Larry Fitzgerald should be an Eagle right now. He's been wrong about a shteinload of other stuff too. Samuel is also playing with a sore hamstring...but I'm sure GCobb didn't bother taking that into account.
lets stir up some random negativity in june. yay!
its hilarious how he's made up his mind Asante is a bust.

pretty sure he never said the word bust tho i didnt read his whole piece...in fact he says in it that not to much should be made of this
farg this the season is over
Basically, the article is saying that Asante is not Champ Bailey.
What exactly would they have spent the money on anyway if they didn't sign this guy?
I guess the could have given Moss a monster offer, but I feel like he wasn't really going anywhere anyway no matter what.
Sign Strahan for $20 million for two years?
It wasn't lke there were amazing free agents this year, there were amazing players who were locked into a team already.
Extending Westbrook?
that was to easy...but correct
or lito (if you had any idea of keeping him)
or signed a wr like berrian for a lot less than it cost to get samuel
or went after a guard to replace herremans
whether you agree with these other options and im not saying all of them are things they should have done but to say that signing samuel for all that money was the right move because the FA market had nothing else in it is pretty silly not just because there were other things they could have done but because thats not a reason to drop 30 mill on someone
In retrospect, those are good ideas.
Alarmism reigns supreme.
Alright, stuff like this makes ME pine for the offseason to be over, and I just started my summer break.
burnt and skewered? sounds delicious.
he needs to wear sunscreen
Garry Cobb would know "burnt" considering he spent most of his career getting chafe marks on his ass from sitting on the bench.
And I'll say it again - the guy speaks and writes like a 7th grade dropout. Why the farg does anyone lend credence to what he has to say? What - because he played (barely) in the NFL for a while, that makes him an expert?
The sun shined on his ass a couple of times, so the legions over on Dave's boards hang on his every word now.
Personally, I'd probably put more weight into anything Florio says before I would GCobb. His "Shows" are farging hilarious though. Marble mouthed farger.
Summary of the article for those who don't have the time:
Asante Samuel sucks.
But don't get the impression that I think he sucks, I actually think he's a great player who will add a lot.
But in case he turns out to be a bust, remember the first thing I said.
Summary?
