Interest in doing this again this year? It always starts off strong, but tends to peter out towards the end. I'll do it - I like it, but wondering about the interest level.
If so, the first bracket will be posted tomorrow.
Can we take previous winners out of the competition to stir things up?
if its an all hip-hop tourney im IN
If it's all hip-hop, that's cool. Just count phattymatty's vote twice instead of expecting a response from me.
just for you we will include the beasties and vanilla ice...and maybe even an exception for kid rock
If you add House of Pain, Snow, and Eminem... IN.
All I know is that Sammy hagar and Rush areout this year. They've won every year on the radio thing, so they are doing exactly what FF is suggesting. Of course, taking Sammy hagar out of the equation does nothing for anyone outside of St. Louis.
I still don't understand this (http://www.google.com/trends?q=sammy+hagar), but he is king 'round these parts.
Take a lot of the losers from past years out. Ted Nugent for example has no place in the same contest as Creedance.
and farg rap...let vigy run a March HipHopNess if he wants.
Maybe I'll make my own, and not use the radio stations.
And farg you. Uncle Ted belongs in any contest I run.
Ted Nugent ought to be shot for his music alone, nevermind his atrocious personality and flat wrong politics.
Take the radio list and edit it...but give it to someone who isn't old and in the way to proof it...maybe mussa can help, seeing as he listens to a bunch of shtein old and new.
Also, Ted Nugent sucks my balls.
you must spend a fortune on tampons.
man, nobody likes me
I'm so sad
lol...pretty much
son has become very monthly since he got married
i actually feel bad for him
i like everyone, you just seem extra grumpy these days.
marriage is great
it's :CF that enrages me lately
on topic: I'll play along with March Bandness if you run it, Demon
great at enraging me vigy

Here's the first bracket.. it's bands that got famous from the 60's. I made a few minor edits (eliminated Canned Heat and Procol Harum), but didn't change the original seeds.

I'm voting against Zeppelin because they are a past winner.
you could also vote against them because they are theiving charlatans
please someone argue with vigy about Zeppelin
he's begging you
it'll be great
theres no argument...everyone knows its true...some people just dont care...which is fine...the fact remains they stole much of their catalog from poor blacks and passed it off as their own...even the people i know who like them admit this
fascinating
please, say more
it's just such a dumb argument from a guy who probably read it from a side panel in vibe magazine 10 years ago...not worth the argument
oh you mean, musicians used music before them and built on top of that? really? SHOCKING!
when the white guys do it, it's stealing?
when the black guys do it, it's artistic license?
when black guys do it, it's "sampling"
just a small taste...but they have dozens and odzens of uncredited stuff they stole
A list of some of the songs Zep stole from other artists:
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" - A folk song by Anne Bredon, this was originally credited as "traditional, arranged by Jimmy Page," then "words and music by Jimmy Page," and then, following legal action, "Bredon/Page/Plant."
"Black Mountain Side" - uncredited version of a traditional folk tune previously recorded by Bert Jansch.
"Bring It On Home" - the first section is an uncredited cover of the Willie Dixon tune (as performed by the imposter Sonny Boy Williamson).
"Communication Breakdown" - apparently derived from Eddie Cochran's "Nervous Breakdown."
"Custard Pie" - uncredited cover of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down," with lyrics from Sleepy John Estes's "Drop Down Daddy."
"Dazed And Confused" - uncredited cover of the Jake Holmes song (see The Above Ground Sound Of Jake Holmes).
"Hats Off To (Roy) Harper" - uncredited version of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down."
"How Many More Times" - Part one is an uncredited cover of the Howlin' Wolf song (available on numerous compilations). Part two is an uncredited cover of Albert King's "The Hunter."
"In My Time Of Dying" - uncredited cover of the traditional song (as heard on Bob Dylan's debut).
"The Lemon Song" - uncredited cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" - Wolf's publisher sued Zeppelin in the early 70s and settled out of court.
"Moby Dick" - written and first recorded by Sleepy John Estes under the title "The Girl I Love," and later covered by Bobby Parker.
"Nobody's Fault But Mine" - uncredited cover of the Blind Willie Johnson blues.
"Since I've Been Lovin' You" - lyrics are the same as Moby Grape's "Never," though the music isn't similar.
"Stairway To Heaven" - the main guitar line is apparently from "Taurus" by Spirit.
"White Summer" - uncredited cover of Davey Graham's "She Moved Through The Fair."
"Whole Lotta Love" - lyrics are from the Willie Dixon blues "You Need Love."
I care

when the white guys do it, it's stealing?
when the black guys do it, it's artistic license?
when white guys steal black music its goes uncredited or in a shady deal they strip a negros rights of his own music
when black guys sample other blacks music the white record company execs (after "aquiring" ownership of the original artists music) force them to pay for it
dolla dolla bill yall and the brown man loses again
really im not trying to get into all this on mmh tournament thread...i dont care if led zepplin wins and i dont care is zepplin is your favorite group....but you gotta call them as they are
poor black men invented and created everything...we get it
not everything...just good music
Actually Zep stole from everyone equally not just "brown eyed handsome men"(name that reference). Stairway's guitar line was copped to the note from a band that opened for them among others. I thought this would be the one thread that would be Igy free...

This is a great time to be a music fan!
vigy doesn't listen to any of this music at all...unless it was sampled into some hip hop track
absolutely 100% not true
i own all the beatles albums and have heard music from a lot of the other groups...and if i havent then i dont vote....go snowball stevie ray vaughn
he also loves Bruce Springsteen
i may prefer music with soul....but i dont discriminate....i evaluate
oh for farg sake you've said numerous time that rock and roll is trash that you can't listen to...that all you consume is hip hop or jazz
it is trash....but that doesnt mean i dont know about it and give it a chance...and theres some of it i like...at least im educated enough to participate in a tournament like this...99% of americans couldnt even cast an educated vote in a hip-hop tournament
if i dont like it i dont like it
that dont mean that im hatin
