I'd rather have a knife fight with O.J. Simpson than watch this ridiculous game.

Still, I'll go with the Patriots winning 34-20.

The guy who runs the bar pool upped the stakes this year to $100 a square.

Jesus farg.

It's $2,250 per quarter and he takes $1,000 to pay for the free food buffet.  And the food this guy serves is crazy.  Filet mignon, king crab legs, etc.  Tomorrow can't get here soon enough.

Basically, yeah.  You don't have to enter the pool if you don't want.  There's a $20 cover charge to get in if you're not in the pool.

I've always wondered if every team didn't have a heavy duty stats nerd to watch for trends and tenancies.  Unless the brilliance of this guy is his instant access to that information, I guess the answer is no.  That's probably why Andy still throws on first down and runs on second.

The defense as a whole collectively choked on that whole drive.  Looked almost like the Eagles' defense a couple of times in the past few seasons.

Come to think of it, didn't the Eagles' defense let Eli do that to them once this year?

The Giants pass rush was insane and was a bigger factor in the Giants win than Eli was. Eli did have that one undeniably great sack escape. Otherwise he was good, but didn't look like greatness out there. Whether this permanently changes his confidence and how he'll play in the future... we'll know in seven months or so.

This crossed my mind as well.  Towards the end of the year, and especially in the playoffs, Eli seems to have turned it up - it just seemed to click with him.

By the way, what in the hell was Belichick thinking when he went for it on 4th and 13.  If he wasn't going to kick the FG, at least pin the Giants deep.

I'll bet he wished he had that FG at the end of the game.  He blew it on that one, in my opinion.

By the way, what in the hell was Belichick thinking when he went for it on 4th and 13.

With Seau and Feagles out there, he must have thought he was playing Tecmo, where FGs are for Hoydas. Actually, I think he was spooked to try anything more than 45 yards because of Gostkowski shanking that one kickoff.

I'm pissed the Giants won, but the blow is much softer because of who they beat. I'm going to take pleasure in the Patriot defeat and try to forget who beat them.

I'll bet he wished he had that FG at the end of the game.  He blew it on that one, in my opinion.

definitely an iffy call...especially with the way the game was going...it wasnt like it was the game they played at the end of the reg season where pts were going up with abandoned...it was fairly clear at that point that the patriots couldnt move the ball...i think ego was a big factor there and thats one of the things you need a huge favorite to have in order to beat them...a ego that will effect the way they play the game and it did

My only worry is that this win gives the Eagles more excuses that you don't need a stud WR to win a Superbowl.

When in reality if you are a real franchise it should give you more motivation. If the farging Giants can win a SB, then if we load up so can we.

Two good things about the Giants winning tonight:

1.  Tiki was watching from the booth or whereever media hellhole NBC put him in tonight.
2.  Shockey was watching from the luxury box.

I never minded Tiki, but he's been running his mouth on Eli for two seasons now - kind of sounded like a sourpuss about it.  And Shockey's just a compelte jerk, so it's nice to see his team win without him.

Of course, it's still a freaking New York team.  But they beat a freaking Boston team, and recently I'm not sure which city's fans are worse.

ive come to the conclusion that nothing motivates them any more than they are.

i mean giants winning wont push them to do anything they were not planning to do anyway.

they might publicly say something like "giants proved anything can happen by getting into the playoffs" but it wont mean much.

i do agree that the eagles are not so far off nor should they start rebuilding.

I'm not mad so much that NY won, but the fact that we went to the title game 4 times and didn't win one SB, and the Giants went on a lucky fluke season and won.

ugh... such a joke

The keys for the Giants turning it around were...

1.  Spagnuolo.
2.  2007 Draft picks actually contributing (Ross, Smith, Boss, Bradshaw, Alford...)
3.  Peaking at the right time.

I'm far from being happy for the Giants, but there's a good lesson in there for the Eagles, particularly at #2.

No.  Think about it.  Then, the likes of Eli Manning and Plaxico Burress would be canonized forever and would die champions, whereas if they live on, they're more likely to return to the pick-six-thrower and mouther-offer that they were before this improbable run.  No. No. No.

I'll give Manning a little bit of credit because he kept his composure and everything, but that play to Tyree was such a fluke of a play and was the make or break play of the game.  Manning somehow "muscles" his way out of the grasp of like 3 different Pats and then chucks the ball up for grabs which Tyree catches and as Harrison swats the ball loose, he's able to somehow pin it to his helmet and keep it from hitting the ground.

It happened so kudos to both of them for making it happen.  But you run those 2 out there in the exact same scenerio 99 more times and that pass never gets completed.  It probably doesn't even get thrown because Manning is on his back.

Another thing I noticed is that Sheli didn't even look all that excited after winning the SB.  Looked like he could literally care less about being there.

qb to improbable receiver for a clutch play in a meaningful game (not the SB of course)...sounds like a 4th and 26 to me

The only thing improbable about the 4th and 26 play is that Mitchell ran straight up the seem completely uncontested.  McNabb had protection, set his feet and fired.  It was they type of play that gets made 2 or 3 times in every NFL game.  It just doesn't typically happen on 4th down.

Manning is not known for his mobility or strength.  Tyree is not known for his great hands and concentration.  It was a fluke play on both ends of it.

The alternative would have been great.  I have no problem witnessing history.  I was rooting for history.  The Eagles would have been the only team I would have rooted against the Pats for.  I was all about them winning out this year regardless of who they were playing.

And like SunMo was saying, it's bad enough that the Giants won a SB.  But then when you consider that they did so after a mediocre (at best) season.  Then they took out the top 2 teams in the conference.  Then they took out the only undefeated team in the SB.  And they did it with Sheli.  And the defense was lead by a guy who maybe should have replaced JJ 2 years ago.

Oh, and then there still the issue of the Pats alleged cheating.  And if that turns out to be true then you've got the Giants doing everything I mentioned above, but they did it while the opposition was cheating on top of that!

That equates to at least 20 years of Eli slurp slurp Coughlin slurp slurp, Giants slurp slurp, gag gag, slurp slurp, choke, slurp, swallow.

Call me names and question my fandom..  I don't a shtein.  If an NFC East team that was not the Eagles had to be the ones to ruin Belichick's history, I would much rather it be the Giants than either the skins or Cowboys.  My hatred runs much deeper for those two teams.  Fact is, Patriots lost, it pissed off their ego-maniac coach to the point of him essentially walking off the field before the game was over, and story-book-life Tom Brady gets to taste playoff defeat.  All great things.

farg the Patriots.  I'm still ecstatic they lost, and I still don't care that it was to the Giants.

Won't even try to disagree.  It was an amazing play, during crunch time in the biggest game any of them have ever played in.  But it was still a fluke.

Quotethe giants d-line should of gotten the mvp

You could make a case for the whole defense because other than Wes Welker, no one else on the Patriots offense did anything really noteworthy.  Of course, the reason for that is because it all starts up front with the d-line.  Brady was under pressure the entire game.

I think it's also worthy to point out that no one has mentioned any of the commercials from the game yet.  That speaks volumes about the level of suckitude they've managed to achieve.  Absolutely horrible.  All of them.

Also, Tom Petty put on a good show.  I couldn't hear a lot of it though because I was stuck between for gabby housewives who wouldn't stfu about dancing with the stars.  Dumb bitches.

I saw this early last week and thought it was interesting

QuoteEx-Giant: Team doesn't want Shockey

Jeremy Shockey, TE NYG
News: The New York Post caught wind of former Giants QB Tim Hasselbeck's comments on Sirius Satellite Radio about ex-teammate Jeremy Shockey, who is out for the year with leg and ankle injuries and will not play in Super Bowl XLII. "I've been there, I've been in that locker room, I know how guys feel, I know how people in that organization feel," Hasselbeck said. "People there are relieved he's not around. There's this big stink about he's on injured reserve. How come he's not on the sideline supporting his team? Let me tell you something, they don't want him there. They're going to say all the right things, 'Oh yeah, we'd love to have him around' and all that stuff because he's their teammate, he's under contract next year and you can't do that. But when they're talking to people and it's not necessarily being reported they don't want him around. He's a distraction."
Analysis: Hasselbeck added that Eli Manning is playing better because Shockey's not on the field demanding the football. Hasselbeck even made note of positional meetings he was in where the quarterbacks were told to hit Shockey with passes early "so he doesn't start going crazy." There have been murmurs that the Giants may part ways with Shockey this offseason, especially after the quality play they've received from rookie TE Kevin Boss. Either way, Shockey is a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE heading into the 2008 season after totaling 57 catches for 619 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games.

Tiki Barber eats shtein today. I really didn't care who was going to win, but I was shocked and yes, had satifaction in seeing the Patriots offensive machine get blown the farg up. The Giants defense showed if you can get to Brady you can make him seem like a regular qb.

This game was won in the trenches by the Giants on both sides of the ball.

The Giants offense blew three chances to score, I think two in the red zone.  They should have won going away. But it didn't matter because of the way their defense was playing. They were sick. But the main thing remembered from this game will be Eli's late game heroics. Say he was lucky, say he isn't that good on any other day of his life, he was that good in the Superbowl, and thats all that will be rememberd from this game. He overcame dropped passes and an interception that wasn't his fault to be the MVP of the biggest Superbowl upset ever. I've always believed you make your own luck either good or bad. There were a lot of passes Eli threw that weren't lucky, just ballsey. Like the TD pass to Tyree at the back of the endzone. Maaaaaaann. It's not a good thing at all for Eagle fans to see a division opponents qb doing the kind of shtein Eli was doing in the Superbowl, or playoffs. Unsettling to say the least. Terry Bradshaw said that greatness can come from preformances like that. I can't help but agree. I might not like it, but who in their right mind can deny what he did yesterday wasn't great? It was the farging Superbowl, man.  I'm NOT an Eli fan, and what I saw yesterday made my contempt for him even greater, but he's been in the league four years and won the Superbowl with what will be known as one of the greatest drives ever. Hate if you must, but he can't be denied anything right now.

I get no satifaction seeing the Giants win, ever. But I haven't forgot losing to the Patriots in the Superbowl either, so I get satifaction seeing them lose whoever beats them, even if I don't get satifaction from seeing the Giants win.

Title: Re: SuperBowl XLII-Patriots vs Giants

I never like him to start with because he was a Giant, then he turned on his own team stabbing his qb in the back. Now we see who really was the bad apple on those teams before he left.

What confuses me is all you guys who call me a homer because I sometimes see things in Eagle players that you sometimes don't, and when I don't agree with you that someone like Curtis or whoever sucks, I'm labled a homer. But when a player on another team does something outstanding, or is just a good player, there are those of you who absolutely cannot acknowledge this just because he doesn't play for the Eagles, especially if they play for a division opponent.

Who is the fanatical Eagle homer here? Who gives a shtein who wins the Superbowl if it isn't the Eagles? You'd rather see the Patriots with their egotistical cheating coach who whipped us in the Superbowl, beat the Giants, just because the Giants play in our division? You can't acknowlege that Eli had one of the greatest preformances in the history of the Superbowl because he plays for a division opponent? Who is the fanatical hating homer?

Tiki talked crap on the Giants all year. For this I'm supposed to all of a sudden take his side? I didn't like the way he turned on his team like that. He turned into a media leech and acted like he'd say anything to get ratings. I'll admit, I agreed with some of what he said at the time, but after what the Giants and Eli did this year he looks like the biggest ass in the world and needs Mike and Mike's "Just Shutup" award like nobody ever has.

thats question is an unequivocal yes.

NY is 1hr away and there are plenty of yorkers floating around these parts--SJersey included. The sight of blue shirts that say 2008 SuperBowl champions is really sad, disgusting, and disheartening all rolled into one...and its all jealousy on my part.

I gotta vent for a sec.

To be real with you guys... the reason it pissed me off so much to see the Giants win the SB, and I doubt that I'm the only one... is that it's their farging third SB, while the Eagles have none.  To know that people my age have had the satisfaction of seeing their team win the whole thing 3 (or more) times while I've never felt that, sickens me to no end right about now.  And I'm helpless to do anything about it because I couldn't leave this team alone if I tried.

Matter of fact, in the Super Bowl era, the NFC East has won 11 SB's... farging 11 and the Eagles can't lay claim to any farging one of them.  That's farging with me right now.

If the Eagles had even one Super Bowl title... I wouldn't give a shtein about this... or at least wouldn't care as much.  At least we'd have something to hang our hats on, y'na mean?

5-3-3-1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 5-3-3-0

I ain't even gonna lie... I'm jealous as farg right about now.  I know I'll get over it in a little bit and be all good again, but right now... jealous as farg.  I can't be the only one to feel this way.

No... it's not about the total number... that's nothing more than salt in the wound.

The thing is that the Eagles have NEVER won one.  There's nowhere to go back and say, "Well, at least we got ours back in..."

It's the point that they've had that feeling multiple times, while I've never felt it once.

Listen up, real Eagles fans.  Fakey here needs to preach for a second.

It's not about cheering on the Giants.  It's about wanting a team to lose more than wanting a team to win.

I don't give a shtein if it was NY that did it.  But what was important to ME was knocking the smugness out of Belichick, beating the smirk of Brady's face, proving the old saying that cheaters never prosper, and getting the efifng NE fans off their holy-moly pedestal.  Who here can stand to be near a Bostonian and their endless babble about the Sox AND the Patriots?  farg, for all I know, the Bruins will win the Cup and the Celtics will win whatever the hell they call their championship.

The fact that NY won another Super Bowl changes nothing - they still had some before that, and the Eagles still had (and have) none.  So this is nothing more than a rug burn.  It ain't no deep cut.

The only deep cut that could have occurred for this would be if the Cowboys were the ones to beat the Pats.  That would suck more than anything else I can think of, but the Giants aren't even close in that book.

Brady is still one of the best all time...same for Belichick...they still have 3 SB, another one is white noise

but now, Eli is a SB winning QB, Tom Coughlin is a SB winning coach, and NY has another championship to ram down Philadelphia's throat

I hate the Pats and it would have sucked to see them have a perfect season. However, as an Eagles fan, you'd forget about this Super Bowl pretty soon, or at least stop being bothered by it. With a Giants victory, we'll never be able to forget. It's another Super Bowl win in the division, and it's not the Eagles. Even the youngest Giants fans who never saw the first two wins are enjoying the taste of victory. This win gives every Giants fan another hammer to bash over the heads of Eagles fans from now until the end of time (or at least until the number of Eagles SB wins exceeds the number of Giants SB wins, which will probably be after the end of the time).

Ten years from now, when the Patriots suck, who are you going to wish won this game?

Giants winning did the following:

Made New England 'beatable' again
Did not give Seau, Moss, stallworth and specially Welker a ring.
Killed the talk about how great the Patriots are. farg them!
Gave the rest of the league hope that if Eli could do it, anyone can. I expect a more competitive NFL next season because of this.
Gives me hope the Eagles will finally do something. Then again, my girlfriend beats me...but it's not her fault, I love her and I'm sure she didn't mean to this time. Again.

Overall, best result.

No, that's me.  I'm a Blues fan.  Why?  Because I went to like 3 Flyers games when I was younger than 12, and then never again.  Didn't "discover" hockey until I lived here, so that's that.  But is there a difference between my football fandom and hockey fandom?  Tons and tons.  It's like cheering for the Eagles and cheering for the Cherry Hill Maggots high school team.

WTF does time zone have to do with anything?

Where I grew up, those around me hated Dallas.  It's what we did.  First words were Dallas Sucks, and you saw "Dallas Sucks" tshirts and bumper stickers all over the place.  Don't see many "Giants Sucks" anything do you?

You are mistaken about Cowboy fans not caring about the Eagles.  Maybe in your hood where territories are fought over, I can see where you're coming from.  But in the big USA, about 80% of Cowboy fans (bandwagon and otherwise) hate the Philly fans more than any other team, and as such, hate the Eagles.  Frankly, I love that attention, but that's not what we're talking about.

As I've said, watching a "dynasty" and "the greatest team of all time" get derailed is hugely satisfying for me.  Root for the underdogs - especially at the inconvenience of the pompous.  Go Rocky!

Exactly. As I've said before, the team that bothers me the most in the league right now is the Patriots. It's all because of proximity. I would rather ANY team beat them than to see their fans get rewarded for their douchebaggery with another championship. But, even having said that, I didn't root for the Giants. Five years from now when I'm not living in New England and couldn't care less about what they have or don't have, I'll still be an Eagles fan and I'll still have to live with the knowledge that the Giants won a superbowl as a 5 seed when the Eagles couldn't win one during four straight years of making the NFC Championship. I'm taking the longview here.

yeah, everyone "hates" the division rivals to different degrees...but nobody with a set of balls would root for them in the farging Super Bowl...that's the farging point

I never said I rooted for those motherfargers. I just made peace with myself after the fact. If it was up to me, both of their airplanes would have collided and the superbowl would have been suspended indefinitely.

I never said I rooted for those motherfargers. I hate Eli just as much as I hate the patriots and tampa and st louis.

Also, the whole Philly vs. NY thing...that's cool....but don't expect people to get it or affect them as much as true Philadephians. I'm an L.A. Eagles fan...it doesn't mean as much to me....but I see it in their rivalry. It's cool. I could tell you about the Dodgers vs. Angels hatred, but you wouldn't understand.  Same shtein. I'll play by the rules...sometimes I hate the Giants more than the Cowboys....sometimes I can't stand looking at Giants fans just because.

it matters because you claimed some sort of philly fandom yet you dont even like all the teams...part of hating ny so much is giants mets rangers knicks ect..its not just football and the fact that you dont have that four team connection btwn philly and ny makes a difference

I claimed to be from Philly area, and I claimed Eagles-based high fandom.  I really don't give a shtein about the 76ers at all, I watch the Flyers second to the Blues, and if I feel like caring about baseball, it's a close one, but the Cardinals trump the Phillies.  Fact is, outside of football and then hockey as a distant second, I don't care.

ive never ever in my life met a dallas fan from dallas

I have an incredibly hard time believing this.  It smells of made-up-fact to prove your mumbo jumbo.

Hatred is Cowboys at a ranking higher than Satan, Hitler, and OBL combined, followed by the Skins at about half of the Cowboys hatred, then the Giants at the bottom.

Hell, I hate the Rams more than the Giants.

mainly due to living away from philly since 1991, there are many more dumbass cowboy fans nationwide then the others. but now already in my hick town I saw two NY jersey's two shiny new shokey and Eli, oh joy!

Most arrogant fans = Patriots
Most retarded fans = Skins
Most band-wagon-then-abandon-ship fans = Rams (although I am admittedly very biased on this one)
Most wide-spread fans = Cowboys (both band wagon and "real" fans - they truly are everywhere)
Most annoying fans = Female Packer fans
Most violent fans = Raiders  Thug life.  Word.
Most vanilla fans = Vikings
Most NASCARish fans = Panthers
Most negative reputation  = Eagles

What did I leave out?

two of my best friends are pittsburgh fans (snis being one)...but its not only knowing people personally who like the steelers its being around their fans in generalt...

for example at the eagle bar in baltimore when the birds play dallas there isnt a single cowboy fan there but when they play pittsburgh you have like 10% of the place annoying loud terrible towel waving fat ugly steeler fans...ill fully admit part of it is jealousy as they have the best fans in the nfl...most pitsburgh fans i run into are also from pitt or pa or have some connection to there

dallas fans on the other hand are bandwagon whores who dont care if the team loses and just wanna talk trash when they win...in fact when they lose they are nowhere to be found...so how could you care about a fraudulant fanbase that has no connection to the place the team is from and that you cant talk shtein to when they lose because they dont care enough...at the same time when they come out of their holes when the team is good it doesnt bother me because i know they are fake and deep down dont really give a shtein about their teams

its like how could you hate atlanta miami or los angelos fans....they are just non entities that are even worth my time

I have a hard time believing that there are better fans out there than Eagles fans.

I know every team has their bias....but look at the following at each road trip. So many Eagles fans make it...and usually, eagles fans have a chip on their shoulder, they are bitter, and have football knowledge in some way. I agree.  There is always a sea of green no matter where we go for the roadie.  And someone usually makes a comment about how unbelievable it is that so many Eagles fans are there -- the bar owner in Minnesota said we easily outnumbered the annual Packer fan trek there.

Of course, if the Eagles fall back into a 6-10 or worse funk for a number of years, I bet that doesn't keep up.

steeler fans crush eagle fans in terms of visiting stadium numbers....im seriously scared for their visit to the linc next year

overall as a base eagles fans are #2 in the league and i put them up there with steeler fans but steelers are definitely the best imo and easily the best in terms of road games

The pirate ship is hideous.  It's a perfect example of the sort of minor league, carny-type environment that you'll see in Tampa.

Been there every time the Eagles have played in Tampa and they are hands-down the most mongoloidal group of inbred rednecks I've come across.  They're even worse than Jaguars fans.

definitely winning helps but for the amount of winning the steelers have done they have an inordinately low number of bandwagon whores...its pretty damn impressive actually...a bigger factor is that no one lives in pittsburgh anymore and the mass exodus of the western pa population over the last 30 years has put steeler fans all over the country

Fat and ugly doesn't even begin to describe the frightening sight of Pittsburgh fans en masse.  There's so many of them at the local pub that they actually get their own banquet room.   When the room lets out after the game, we have to shield our eyes from the hideousness.

Here's who I root against in the Super Bowl:

1.  Any team that has yet to win a Super Bowl and is not the Eagles.
2.  Any divisional rival.
3.  Any "feel good" story that is not related to the Eagles.

The Giants, at #2, are clearly ahead of the Patriots' quest for perfection, which would fall at #3.

My feeling about the division rivals is based mostly on the interaction I've had with their fans.

Cowboy fans are the most obnoxious, in your face, crawling all over the place fans.  I've never met a Cowboys fan that I liked.  There are even a bunch of them up here.  farging annoying.  And of course, they drop off the face of the earth when the pukes are losing, so you can't give them any shtein back.

Next are the taterskins fans, mostly because we have to hear how they won the offseason every year.  I also don't want the taterskins to win because Snyder is an ignorant yet arrogant turd.  taterskin farging one.  farg that.

Giants fans I don't so much have a problem with.  They talk shtein, but they'll take it back when they deserve it.  Giants fans also don't talk about how classless Philly fans are.  I'm sure there are icehole Giants fans out there, but I haven't met them.  I do want to punch Eli in the face every time I see him on TV though.  And Shockey.

I rooted for the Pats and wanted them to bury the Giants to show what a fluke it was that the NFC wild card made it to the Super Bowl.

steeler fans crush eagle fans in terms of visiting stadium numbers....im seriously scared for their visit to the linc next year

eagles fans are #2 in the league and i put them up there with steeler fans but steelers are definitely the best imo

This is true but it has more to do with the five Super Bowl wins than anything else.  The Eagles have never won dick yet we still travel in the top 2.  Think about that for a second.

I'll take Eagles fans passion over Steelers fans, but as far as sheer numbers yes the Steelers have more fans.

shteinsburgh has more fans because during the 70's they had a little dynasty going and an entire generation of fans from all parts of the country were brought up rooting for them because they were always on TV. Same goes for the Packers in the 60's, the 49ers in the 80's and the Cowboys in the 90's (though they already had a nice fan base in the South after winning a few earlier Bowls).

So it's impossible to compare them to Eagles fans, who by and large are from Philly and Philly only. Let's not forget, anyone slightly West of the city likes the Steelers, any north likes the Giants and anyone South likes the Racists. No one really likes Philadelphia or its sports team except for the people in it. So the fact that Eagles fans travel so well shows how good of a fan base they have. It's certainly not bigger than the others listed above, but it's just as loyal and intense which is really saying something.

As for teams I hate, it's pretty simple:
1. Cowboys, Racists, Giants
2. Steelers
3. Patriots
4. Ravens
5. The Manning Family
6. Jets (farg NY)
7. Atlanta

Otherwise, I could give two shteins. Those teams under no circumstances would I ever be okay with winning anything. Specifically teams from the NFC East, and it's an utter abomination that that retard Eli Manning won a farging Superbowl. farg him.

Lifelong Eagles fan.

Recent hockey fan, and lived in St. Louis when I "found" hockey.

Hate the NBA, and baseball bores the shtein out of me.  No alliances for either, although I do follow the baseball Cardinals for career survivability.  In a town that is baseball first, you don't get nuthin' of you don't know about the Cards.

For the billionth goddamn time, it's entirely possible to like three of four.  I never liked the Sixers because our family was Big 5 fans, not NBA fans.  The NBA was garbage in the 1970's and although it's impossible for some of you to grasp, the Big 5 was absolutely huge back in the day.  The Sixers weren't even on the city's radar until they got Dr. J.  They've always been a distant fourth in the suburbs in terms of popularity as well and we were from the suburbs.

I started liking Houston because of Jeff Bagwell. There aren't any teams close to this area and every Yankees and Mets fan I knew were jackasses.

Wade has really improved the team this offseason. Too bad he stripped them of all their pitching prospects, which was the strong point of their system. Great time to do it too, with the rotation being terrible now and for the forseeable future.

Ed Wade is a donkey who loves stripping farm systems down. The dumbass moves he made in Philly are a long list. But thank god the Blue Jays and Pirates were even dumber when they refused to trade Ted Lilly or Kip Wells for Ryan Howard when Big Head Ed was trying to deal him for the yearly acquisition of a shteinbag starter.

He also signed Pie In The Face Professional Tomas Perez in Houston.

Also; get ready for the trade deadline moves of middle relievers. Eddie likes those guys and he'll trade whatever he has to do to get the Geoff Geary's of the world.

I love talking baseball with Astros fans here. They just dont know how bad Wade is going to farg that team over.

Their offense is going to be pretty damn good though. I really like Bourn and Pence is going to be good for awhile too.

He's already signed Geary though.....really.

There aren't any prospects left to trade. My favorite move (even though it did get Tejada) was dealing away their clear #1 prospect Troy Patton, who is a left handed starter who throws mid 90s and has a wicked curveball. Have the job a couple of months and completely destroy what was left of the minors. The only guys that are "coming through the system" had a 5+ ERA in short outings last year. If those select few guys don't pan out, it could be one of the worst rotations in baseball.

I know...he accepted Geary in the Lidge deal.

And Geary looks like a seedling of Ed Wade.

But whats funny is listening to sports talk down here no one is bitching about the farm being depleted. And I agree with you, its a legit thing to complain about because its true.

Maybe he'll take Adam Eaton off Gillick's hands.

Why?  I mean, I get it if your family is from Philly and you grow up in Philly but like the Cowboys instead of the Eagles.  But if you're in a position like Demon who hasn't lived in Philly since the Constitution was signed and wasn't a fan of hockey when he lived there, but got turned onto hockey when he moved to St Louis, then why is he somehow obligated to be a Flyers fan?  Maybe it was a certain player or players on the Blues that he started to follow and that's what got him into it in the first place.

I was born and raised 20 minutes from the Vet.  I grew up on Philly sports and love the Eagles and Phils.  I'm a Sixers fan but I don't hold them in the same regard as I do the Eagles or Phils.  I hate hockey but if the Flyers are good, I'll root for them and maybe even watch.

But I haven't lived in Philly for almost 15 years now and as it stands, I have no intentions of moving back.  I'm in KC, love it here and even though I'll probably move again, I plan on coming back when I retire in a few years.  This is my home and there's rumblings that KC could possibly get an NBA franchise either from NO or Seattle.  Should one of those teams move here I'll probably get season tickets (or at the very least, attend a bunch of home games) because they will be representing a city I love living in and I'll have a lot of fun cheering for them.  So what?  Am I not allowed to love the city I live in and the one I'm from at the same time?

I'm basically talking to a wall by responding to you on this one but I don't see a problem with taking pride in where you were born, especially if it's a place worth taking pride in.  I think Philly's a great city and the US is (for the most part) a great country and I'm proud of both.  I also don't see a problem with not liking the place you were born and do agree that there shouldn't be an "obligation" to be proud of it if you don't like it simply because that's where your mom was when she happened to squeeze you out.

In other words, to each his own.

Who said anyone was rooting for the Giants? No one. I just wanted to see the Pats lose more.

Look at what the Giants did. They beat what everyone was saying was the best team ever. EVER!! The best qb, the best wr, the best coach, the best orginization, the best of everything.  And they did in historical fashion. They did it in a game that will go down in history as one of the greatest ever played.

It was the best Superbowl I've ever seen, and it's only the flaming, fanatical homer in you all who can't look at what the Giants did and respect them. I'm not talking becoming a Giants fan or about thier fans and what your poor little selves will have to listen too all offseason. I'm talking about a team that did all year what no one at all thought they would do, about proving every single one of us and the media wrong. I'm talking about what was a great friggen' game.

If it was the taterskins, I would feel different. Anyone with half a brain knows that Washington fans are the absolute worse fans in any sport. I don't like them from the owner right on down to the iceholes in the parking lot tailgating.

taterskins

The Stadium is junk. I said FIELD. They are one of the leading agricultural schools on the Eastern seaboard, far as I know. The actual field itself is one of the best around. Least it was last time I was there.

Super Bowl massacre averted at last minute

A distraught Tempe man was within sight of the Super Bowl on Sunday with an assault rifle, but a change of heart kept him from unloading 200 rounds of ammunition on the crowd, court records show.

Drunkenstein's bar name scares off Tempe

Kurt William Havelock, 35, turned himself in Sunday to Tempe police and the FBI at the urging of family and confessed his plan, which he hatched in retaliation for the Tempe City Council rejecting a liquor license application for a restaurant and bar he owns.

According to court records, Havelock is charged with mailing threatening communications in the mailing of eight copies of a "manifesto" explaining the planned massacre.

"I will test the theory that bullets speak louder than words ... I will slay your children. I will shed the blood of the innocent," Havelock wrote. "No one destroys my dream. No one."
Magistrate Judge Edward V. Ross said in a hearing in U.S. District Court on Tuesday: "I haven't read more chilling words, and I've been doing this a long time." Ross found Havelock was a danger to the public and ordered him held without bail.

Havelock on Sunday mailed copies of the manifesto intended for friends and media from a post office at 59th and Peoria avenues in Glendale, but authorities were able to intercept them.

In the letters he says his family has been attacked and the futures of his children have been destroyed.

In October, Havelock was before the Tempe City Council to get approval for a liquor license application for a restaurant called The Haunted Castle, a Halloween-theme bar where horror-theme bands and actors could gather to promote themselves, according to city records.

Liquor licenses are typically rubber-stamped by city councils, whose votes are only advisory.

The State Liquor Board makes the final decision.

Council members, however, got word from a blog written by Havelock that the business would be called Drunkenstein's and questioned him about it.

Havelock said there would be a sign with that name but would be only one corner of the business at 6463 S. Rural Road.

The council voted 6-1 to deny the application, which is still pending before the liquor board.

"Alas, this all boils down to an econopolitical confrontation. I cannot outvote, outspend, outtax, or outincarcerate my enemies," Havelock wrote in the manifesto. "But for a brief moment I can outgun them."

According to court testimony by FBI Special Agent Philip Thorlin and Havelock's father, Frank Havelock, he bought an AR-15 assault rifle on Jan. 29 from Scottsdale Gun Club.

Thorlin described the rifle as the U.S. military's weapon of choice.

Havelock began Sunday by going back to the gun club for target practice, but there was a private function and he couldn't get in. Besides the rifle, Havelock was carrying at the time six 30-round magazines and 20 loose rounds.

Thorlin said Havelock's original destination was Desert Ridge Marketplace in northeast Phoenix. It's unclear according to court documents why Havelock changed his mind about Desert Ridge and headed for Glendale instead.

He drove to different post offices in the West Valley to obtain the envelopes and postage for his copies of the manifesto and mailed them before he went to the parking lot of Jobing.com Arena, which can be seen from University of Phoenix Stadium, where a host of activities were happening before the 4:30 p.m. kickoff.

"He waited about a minute and decided he couldn't do this," Thorlin said.

Havelock then called his fiancee and met his parents at his Tempe condominium.

"He was very upset, he was sobbing hysterically," Frank Havelock said. "He said, 'I've done something terribly, terribly wrong.' "

Frank Havelock believed his son was talking about financial problems he was having with his restaurant, which the elder Havelock learned about for only the first time on Sunday, but then he confessed about the letters and the rifle.

Frank Havelock said he went to his son's car and moved the weapon and ammo to his car and persuaded him to turn himself into Tempe police.

When authorities searched Havelock's car, they found another typed letter to police with a handwritten note at the bottom that read: "do not resuscitate."

Havelock has no criminal history, and a mental health evaluation conducted at his arrest found "no mental defects" that would warrant a commitment to a mental hospital, Thorlin said.

Frank Havelock said he's never had any problems with his son.

Neighbors who live next door said Havelock lived with his fiancee and two small children and two large dogs. Martin Trump and Danny Q. Rivera said Havelock kept to himself and had a variety of cars, including a white hearse with a vanity plate that read "drtnap."

They were shocked to learn of Havelock's plan to use an assault rifle on crowds at the Super Bowl.

"The Patriots versus the Giants — do you see the ironic parallel? How many dollars will you lose? And all because you took my right to work, to own a business, from me," Havelock wrote in his manifesto.

"Perhaps ( Web sites) will print up some cool t-shirts like I SURVIVED SUPER BOWL XLII."
