Title: Remote Car Starters
Post by: SunMo on November 28, 2007, 11:23:21 AM
Has anyone ever installed one?

I am going to get one for my wife's car for Christmas.  Is there a brand that anyone can recommend?

Thanks.

Compustar from what I read. Check it out.

Supposedly has the best range and more channels for any future add-ons. I was very close to getting one last winter

It should be fairly easy to install an explosive device at the same time, discreetly.  You never know when you might need it.

My buddy had a Jeep Wrangler with a 5speed and a starter, you just had to remember to not put it in gear

Impossible.

How the hell does the car start without the clutch being engaged?

Your friend is a liar.

Who the fluck is chip foose?  Maybe its because it was a jeep.  The installers at Audio Works here in delaware just kept telling him never to start it in gear or there would be huge problems, and made him sign paperwork saying that he knows that it's his fault if soemthing bad happend

Foose is a world-renowned muscle car builder. I think he even had a show on TLC or something like that.

Check out his site... http://www.chipfoose.com/ (http://www.chipfoose.com/)

But your friend is still a liar...Jeep or no Jeep, its absolutely impossible to install a remote starter on a manual car. Maybe he had one of the Hoyda-ass tiptronic fake stick cars.

Die-Hard your wrong bud. You can bypass the clutch safety switch, just keep the car out of gear. Not a lot of dealers  will install because of obvious safety reasons

If Im wrong, then Ive been lied to a whole bunch, because Ive been in contact with almost every import shop in the NJ area to have one installed in my car and Ive been repeatedly told it was impossible.

RJS is right though - everyone is a farging liar today. Except Sean Taylor, because he is incapable of lying now. Because he's dead.

Maybe the docs should have installed a remote starter into ST.  Then they could have tried to revive him from the 18th green.

They were bullshteintin you, man.

My boy had one on his '91 GT...all you have to do is bypass the neutral safety switch. And as previously mentioned, do not leave it in gear.
Title: Re: Remote Car Starters
Post by: Sgt PSN on November 29, 2007, 06:55:25 PM
I have one on my 'stang but I didn't bypass any safety switches or anything.  I just put the car in neutral and use a brick to hold the clutch down.  Then on my way to work I throw the brick at a group of grade school aged children while they're waiting for the bus.
