Thats garbage.
Everyone is sick to death of the farging Yankees. Seriously.
Is the Pads/Rockies game on TBS tonight? I checked the program guide and it says 'To be announced', checked their website and there's a bunch of sitcom crap scheduled.
its on tbs
Thanks dook, comcrap added TBSHD just in time for the playoffs. At least they're good for something.
many local people are saying that TBSHD was added, but i don't see it on my cable menu. not only that, but i don't have bunch of new HD channels that were supposed to be added on 9/25 like foodHD or NFLHD. and comcast's phone system keeps hanging up on me
I have them all
After 2 innings, the Rockies are up 3-0. They're smacking Peavy around pretty good.
Adrian Gonzalez just hit a grand slam. Padres now up 4-3.
Quite a few boos being heard in Coors Field.
The Padres tacked on one more. 5-3 going into the bottom of the third.
I have to turn it on to the Patriots now. :-\

uh....Holliday never touched home plate :paranoid

Trevor Hoffman sucks ass. The Rockies were the last team I wanted the bums to face. The only upside if there is one is their entire bullpen was used tonight.

I noticed that. It's was like no one in the stadium had been to a game all year and finally decided to go since the Rockies were finally playing an important game. Not trying to make it sound like Phillies fans fill the stadium every day but at least Phillies fans show up sporting some sort of team gear. It's almost as if everyone just decided to show up to the game after work and buy a ticket at the gate.
I just saw the replay...he didn't touch the plate. Wow. If I'm a Pads fan, I have a broken TV this morning.
So, which jobless losers will actually be watching in HD on Wednesday at 3?
A 3:00 mid-week start is preposterous. Two of them is a slap in the face. Then they go to Colorado and fans on the east coast will be stuck with two starting times where the games likely won't end until after 1:00 AM.

QuotePhillies Notes | Playoff roster may not have Eaton on it
The Phillies have until 10 a.m. tomorrow to submit their 25-man roster for the National League division series with the Colorado Rockies.
It is unlikely that righthander Adam Eaton and his 6.29 ERA will be on it.
But one potential cause for concern is catcher Carlos Ruiz. He suffered a bruised left elbow in Sunday's 6-1 victory over the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park when he got hit with a pitch. Ruiz, who had to leave the game as a result, said afterward that he hoped to be able to play tomorrow, but he sounded unconvinced.
Ruiz remains sore but said he felt better yesterday. He is scheduled to have an MRI exam today to rule out any small fractures in the elbow. If the Phillies are not convinced that Ruiz will be ready by tomorrow for Game 1, they might need to carry an extra catcher. Because catcher Pete Laforest is ineligible for the postseason roster, that means Rod Barajas could join the squad as a No. 3 catcher.
The Phillies are expected to carry 10 or 11 pitchers, with Cole Hamels, Kyle Kendrick, Kyle Lohse and Jamie Moyer in the starting rotation.

Playoff roster is set...
Mesa is in...Geary out, i don't agree with that. they also kept 3 catchers
The only thing I can see with Geary is that he throws a lot of fly balls...and between Coors Field and CBP...that can be Dangerous.
I dont understand bringing in Helms and Barajas though. Those two being on the roster has Gillick's slime all over it.
according to tim mccarver and the other fox douchebag from the game over the weekend, wes helms is going to play a big part in these playoffs.
This article (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2007/news/story?id=3046331) says that Geary has a hurt elbow, so I guess that's why he's not on the roster.
Barajas makes sense only because Ruiz got hurt on Sunday and you can't risk being without a backup if Ruiz re injures himself during the series sometime

Tell you the truth, if the Phils hadn't swept the Mets again to climb back in, I wouldn't have wanted him to start any more games. Protect the golden elbow.
Since they did, they were back in the race, and Hamels pitched two days later, but it took him a couple of starts to round into shape.
I'll be at work tomorrow with the Gamecenter up and running....
I hate the fact that they have to face the Rockies. I don't hate the fact that Adam Eaton isn't on the roster.

I wouldn't have made a big deal about it either if they weren't within closing distance either which is why I don't understand who was pissed off about it. If the Phils take a dive and end up 10 games out of the division and/or WC while Hamels is out then there's no point in him coming back because even with the way they finished they still miss out.
If they were 10 games out with no hope of catching the Mets or making the wildcard it probably would have been prudent for him to shut it down for the year. Saying what he did publicly was a mistake, though. Not a huge one in my eyes but still a pretty significant one. He comes off as putting his interests ahead of the ballclub and although almost every player does it in this day and age it's still not good to say it publicly.
The elegant eloquence of Bill Lyon:
QuoteBill Lyon | Never-say-die Phillies offer reason to believe
A surging, surprising team finds a place in our hearts.
By Bill Lyon
For The Inquirer
Friday night, wedding reception, Blue Bell: Six men run discreet relays from the ballroom to the TV set, returning with updates of the Phillies and Mets games. Their reports are delivered with gleeful chortling, in acerbic shorthand: "Fightin's up 3, choking New York dogs down 4." The bride dances with her father, and everyone smiles, and the good news is whispered: Phillies inching closer to first place.
Saturday, gym: The TV sets are zeroed in on the first-place Phillies. The man on the treadmill next to me squints and asks: "What's that Mets score? I can't read it." The Mets have two touchdowns and an extra point. The man yelps in anguish: "Whaaaaaat" and shoots off the back of his treadmill. He sits, ruefully, and mutters: "I knew it was too good to be true." Obviously, a lifelong Phillies fan.
Sunday, checkout line: A beefy man with the tentacles of his radio elbow-deep into his ears suddenly bellows: "Rollins is on." Grins all around. Comes another bellow: "Rollins stole second." Happy nodding of heads. Soon: "Rollins stole third." Now there is growing applause. Then: "He just scored. . . . Phillies are ahead." An impromptu chorus: M-V-P . . . M-V-P.
So went a weekend for the memory bank, three days of golden splendor and apple-cider nights, of lighted candles and frenzied helicoptering of white rally towels, all courtesy of a Major League Baseball team whose mottled history is mostly one of angst and frustration.
Ah, but not this time, my friend. Not this time. No, this time the Fightin's are truly worthy of their nickname, and none of that usual sneering derision either. This is all guts and glory.
They won their division with a trumpets-blaring stretch run that was made even sweeter because it involved an inglorious free-fall, flame-out death spiral by the New York Mets, who are to the Phillies roughly what Dallas is to the Eagles.
In the Season of the 10,000 Losses, for a franchise that has suffered more defeats than any professional team in any sport, ever, the Phillies have achieved Deliverance. For only the 10th time in their 125-year history, they will play beyond the regular schedule.
And they will do so with the full-throated accompaniment of a city whose yearning for a champion goes back generations and cuts clean to the bone.
Sport is the great common denominator.
It is the umbilical that ties us to one another. It cuts across all the mean and petty lines, transcends the unspoken boundaries, and has no regard for gender, race or age.
Being a fan requires no more than a simple emotional investment. But beware, for, over time it will grow and swell and inflame and rouse from you a passion you never knew existed.
Most of the time, the Phillies have tantalized you, seduced you, left you in gnashing rage, or weeping sorrow. But this is a team meant for this town and for this time. This is a team that does not swoon, that does not go gentle into that good night.
Of its 89 wins, 48 were achieved when they had to come from behind.
"Not a ounce of give-up in 'em," says manager Charlie Manuel, who knows a little bit about not giving up, having survived cancer and a heart attack, among other triumphs.
Says Jayson Werth, a platoon player: "We don't feel like we're out of a game. It's been crazy. Nothing can surprise us."
Crazy, yes. But a delicious lunacy. How many school-night bedtimes were fudged, or just plain ignored, during the month of September? Here is the rationalization for being allowed to stay up waiting for one more rally: The Fightin's have provided a life lesson, applicable for any and every age. Never give in, never give up. Never. Ever. Never.
They were seven games behind with 17 to play. They won 13, equaling the biggest September comeback in major-league history. And the Mets, well, in a delightful bit of irony, the Mets did a passable impersonation of the Phillies Great Collapse of 1964.
And the '07 Phillies did all of this in spite of a crippling, season-long run of injuries. Their DL was as thick as a Manhattan phone book. Asked how this team was held together, Jimmy Rollins replied: "Motrin and duct tape."
Also held together by Manuel, who gave a determined demonstration of placid, panic-free managing, and by Rollins, who played every game and scored more runs than anyone else in the National League, and in the process was without peer at his position.
In the euphoria of Sunday's win, Ryan Howard, last year's MVP, leaned into a camera and, with an appealing touch of class, said: "I gladly relinquish my title to this man. He deserves it."
Yes, he does.
It was Rollins who first uttered the words "We're the team to beat" back in January. It was not said in arrogance or cocky posing, but rather as an honest, if opinionated, assessment. In Game 162, it became reality.
This team has caught many by surprise. We have become accustomed to oh-so-close. We have come to expect being led to Lover's Leap, and then pushed. Ah, but you have heard all of this a thousand times and more, by now, about curses and negativity, hexes and terminal pessimism, the shroud that cloaks our town.
But perhaps it has never been quite as bad as we think. Listen, for example, to Pat Burrell. Pat the Bat rallied from a horrid first half of the season and ended with 30 home runs and 97 RBI, respectable numbers, indeed. But in his stay here, he has been roundly roasted. And yet . . . and yet, well, listen: "It's always been good to be a Phillie. Even the bad times have been great."
There is something to be learned from such a stalwart sentiment.
So now what? Well, now comes a thing to which we are unaccustomed: Tomorrow. The Fightin's are going to play October baseball. At home. They are in the playoffs.
And in the words of their beloved Dirt Ball, Chase Utley: "Once you're in, anything can happen."
And so it can.
And so it can.
QuotePhillies lefthander Cole Hamels (15-5, 3.39 ERA) will take on lefthander Jeff Francis (17-9, 4.22). Hamels has never faced the Rockies. Francis is 0-1 with an 8.79 ERA in three career starts against the Phillies, and 0-1 with a 15.12 ERA in two starts against them this season.
Quote"We've only faced Philly a couple times, but we feel we are going to beat them," outfielder Ryan Spilborghs told the Rocky Mountain News on Monday. "There's no doubt in our minds that we're the better team, so we're looking forward to it."
The Phillies mostly rolled their eyes at that comment.
Nobody took the bait.
"We've got the raw-egg factor," closer Brett Myers joked. "Rocky, man. We're going to eat raw eggs in the morning."
Phillies vs. Rockies
Thinking Fan's Approach
Maybe Matt Holliday and Co. aren't the Blake Street Bombers of yesteryear, but they can certainly knock the ball around the yard.
The Rockies' reputation as the Blake Street Bombers dates back to the days of Dante Bichette, Vinny Castilla, Larry Walker and Andres Galarraga's putting up Nintendo numbers in the '90s. Coors Field's park effects have mellowed a bit since then, though Matt Holliday, Brad Hawpe, Todd Helton, Garrett Atkins and Troy Tulowitzki still form one of the most fearsome fivesomes in the game. On the other hand, the Phillies' offense has been even better, with three MVP candidates in Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard. Plus, Pat Burrell and Aaron Rowand are having career years, and there have been plenty of contributions from the supporting cast.
But the Rockies' biggest edge over the Phillies lies in their defense. Most advanced defensive metrics rate Tulowitzki as one of, if not the best defensive shortstops in the game. Since shortstop defense plays a bigger role in a team's run prevention than any other position (yes, even catcher), you can thus argue that Tulowitzki is the single most valuable defensive player in baseball. Add the contributions of the slick-fielding Helton and other defenders, and the Rockies rank eighth in MLB in defensive efficiency, a stat tracked by Baseball Prospectus that measures the percentage of balls in play that a defense turns into outs. The Phillies, by comparison, rate just 18th.
Nonthinking Fan's Approach
"Defense is great and everything, but who are these pitchers anyway? In these two ballparks, with these two offenses, isn't every game going to end with a 10-8 score anyway?"
Well actually, yes, that could happen. Even after stripping out park effects, these are two terrific offenses, ranking a notch below the Yankees but in line with any of the AL's other playoff teams. But the Phillies will trot out Cole Hamels as their No. 1 starter in the playoffs. A study run by Nate Silver and Dayn Perry in the book "Baseball Between the Numbers" showed that the three key ingredients to winning in the playoffs are:
1. Strike-throwing aces at the top of the rotation
2. A top-notch closer
3. An airtight defense
Despite Manny Corpas' success this season, it's premature to compare him to the K-Rods of the league at this point, so neither team projects to have a huge advantage in the 'pen. We've already covered the Rockies' superior defense. But Hamels showed enough after coming back off the DL to convince me that he's back to being a true ace. He struck out almost a batter per inning this season and ranked among the league ERA leaders, despite pitching at Coors Field Lite in the form of Citizens Bank Park. After that, you could argue that Kyle Kendrick, Jamie Moyer and Kyle Lohse are no great shakes. But you have to favor them over whichever pitchers the Rockies run out after Jeff Francis -- likely rookies Ubaldo Jimenez and Franklin Morales and journeyman Josh Fogg.
Random Facts
Thanks largely to some aggressive moves by Pat Gillick (I know, it's just as weird for me to write this as it is for you to read it), the Phillies may have the strongest bench of any of the eight playoff teams. Most notably, Jayson Werth posted an OBP above .400 while subbing for Shane Victorino, and Tadahito Iguchi hit over .300 while playing his usual steady defense with Chase Utley out. With all hands now on deck, the Phils suddenly have plenty of options for pinch hitting, pinch running (Michael Bourn is lightning fast) or even an occasional lefty-righty platoon.
Will Ryan Howard deliver in an expected late-inning matchup against Colorado reliever Brian Fuentes?
Look for at least one key eighth-inning moment in this series pitting Phillies lefty sluggers Utley and Howard against the Rockies' Brian Fuentes. Colorado's former closer, turned set-up man, was one of the stingiest relievers in the NL against lefty hitters this season, limiting them to a line of .207 AVG/.297 OBP/.296 SLG, with no homers in 54 at-bats.
What Page 2 Wants to Happen
Five games to match Monday night's epic 9-8 Rockies win over the Padres -- regardless of which team wins them. The Phillies and the Rockies both staged huge late-season comebacks to get into the postseason. Both teams boast a stable of likable, dynamic young players who are new to the big stage. The Rockies have never won a World Series, and Phillies fans have historically been among the most tortured in baseball. If you're not from Denver or Philly, it's almost impossible to root against either of these teams.
Series Prediction
You have to love both teams' offenses. The Rockies have a slight edge in the bullpen and with the leather. But Cole Hamels is a difference maker at the top of the Philly rotation, and there's enough uncertainty in the No. 2 through No. 4 spots on the Rockies' staff to make you wonder whether Corpas and Fuentes will get to pitch with many leads. The Rockies' incredible run has made me a fan for the past few weeks. But I think it ends here. Phillies in 3.
I hope they're right, but I don't know. What I do know is that my stomach is in knots, and its five hours until game time.
EDIT: Yes, I'm a teacher... :-D
the more i look at it the more im gonna be heated if jimmy doesnt win the mvp
everyone is talking about the power guy vs the little guy but never mention that holiday only had six more homers than jimmy!!
and had jimmy batted clean up all year he would have had an equal number of rbi
this is not a rout but its also not as close as people are making it out to be
plus if nothing else rollins going out on a limb before the season then backing it up should win it for him
Off the bandwagon, dook.
You spend months telling us the Phils can't make the playoffs...and that Matt Holliday's jizz tastes like strawberry ice cream...and now you play nice?
Ha!

i admit it
i love all people
but i like the blacks better
but did you see how hard holliday slid into home while not touching the plate? he scratched his chin all up. that was mvp worthy.
i thought it would have been a rout for holliday had the phillies not made the playoffs, but now that they're in, i think i goes to jimmy. his stealing second and third in the clinching game set the tone for the rest of it. and his numbers and defense are sick.
yeah i wouldnt have hated on the decision to give it to the guy who made the playoffs

i'm seriously considering having my wife set the DVR at home and shutting the world out until I get home at 5:30 today and watch the game in it's entirety. Question is, do i have the discipline to actually do it?

Not sure. The irony is that the only way you could be sure would be to attend a Philadelphia sporting event in person and see if your surroundings quickly turn icy.
I'm beginning to think taking off the whole day of work was a bad idea. I'm bouncing off the fricken walls here.

Would have liked to see Werth get the nod here, but I guess in this series superior defense is needed more than the hot bat.
Werth hit only .241 in September, you must be thinking it's still August, where he hit an absurd .414 with a .500 obp.

not sure what this means for the team

cole....
Cole is in real danger of not making it out of this inning. He's not just missing spots, he's getting his pitches up.
And the ump isn't helping him with a tight strike zone.
Phils' offense needs to answer this inning.
Phew. Keep it together. Keep it together.
Cole needs to calm the farg down. Looks nervous like in a couple of spots early in the season. Ruiz needs to do a better job of keeping him somewhat settled.
wow the rockies really looked tired and beat. yeah, right. guys look looser than an elephant's terd.
Howard goes down swinging, but worked an eight pitch at bat.

Good rebound inning for Cole.
Cole may have to take the offense into his own hands. The rest of the lineup seems to be allergic to Francis.

Ok let's get this out, and rally.
Flash coming in. Nice overall outing for Colbert. He hurt himself with the 2nd inning but has been dominant otherwise.....which is a good sign should he pitch again this postseason.
Flash gets the k for the 3rd out. :yay
Ok, here comes their zesty bullpen, time to rock them.
this dudes delivery is tripping me out.
Dobbs walks!
well done dobbs, but pr with bourn here you must steal a base to make the move worth it
It's the little things that really piss me off about Burrell. New pitcher comes in and he swings at the first pitch and pops out to 3rd. Dobbs comes in off the bench to PH and works a 9 pitch walk.

still going to stay positive although i don't feel good about tomorrow at all. Rockies will be estatic with a split at CBP so they'll be even looser tomorrow.

well it aint over, but this isnt good. the only lingering positives are that the phillies have been a good road team, and just when you think this team is done, they come back and win. so....lets get em tomorrow?
oh totally agree with everyone on bourne not running what the hell was that
in fact in the 7th and 8th they had runners on first for a total of four batters and didnt run once
in fact in the 8th they had runner on first and utley down 0-2...why not run and if you get thrown out you bring utley up vs the righty to lead off the ninth

They picked a great game to do it.
The winner of today's game goes on to play in the NLCS. I guarantee it.
Does anyone have a stat on the Phillies afternoon games this year? If Im guessing right---they have sucked big time all year. Im thinking the shadows from the mound to home plate has really made a difference at that ball park
Francis would of been hard to hit for any team the way he pitched. His movement on his ball was sick

I'm sure the shadows play a factor but the Rockies have to deal with the shadows too and it didn't affect them nearly as much as it did the Phils yesterday.
Really, what it comes down to is one bad inning for Hamels. He pitched solid in every inning except the 2nd and that's what really cost the Phillies the game. Because other than the 2nd inning, it's not like the Rockies were hitting the ball either.
Well, except for that juicy hanging breaking ball that Holliday murdered...
One of the announcers (Joe Simpson?) made a comment about during the Rockies' big 2nd innning, the sky was overcast, and the shadows weren't there.
Means nothing, since the Phils had opportunities - or, perhaps, didn't give themselves opportunities.
I agree with Romey, this game is pivotal. The Phils can take one in Colorado, but I don't think they'll take both.
werth in for victorino today
utley batting second
burrell third
seems like a panic move by charlie in repsonse to one bad game
i feel good about today tho...phils will win

In Colorado, there stands a holy shrine called Coors Field. On this site, named for the holiest of beers, a team plays that has been chosen by Jesus Christ himself to play .500 baseball in the National League West. And if you don't believe me, just ask the manager, the general manager and the team's owner.
In a remarkable article from USA Today last week, the Colorado Rockies went public with the news that the organization has been explicitly looking for players with "character." And according to the Tribe of Coors, "character" means accepting Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior. "We're nervous, to be honest with you," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "It's the first time we ever talked about these issues publicly. The last thing we want to do is offend anyone because of our beliefs." When people are nervous that they will offend you with their beliefs, it's usually because their beliefs are offensive.
As Rockies chairman and CEO Charlie Monfort said, "We had to go to hell and back to know where the Holy Grail is. We went through a tough time and took a lot of arrows."
Club president Keli McGregor chimed in, "Who knows where we go from here? The ability to handle success will be a big part of the story, too. [Note to McGregor: You're in fourth place.] There will be distractions. There will be things that can change people. But we truly do have something going on here. And [God's] using us in a powerful way."
Well, someone is using somebody, but it ain't God. San Francisco Giants first baseman-outfielder Mark Sweeney, who spent 2003 and 2004 with the Rockies, said, "You wonder if some people are going along with it just to keep their jobs. Look, I pray every day. I have faith. It's always been part of my life. But I don't want something forced on me. Do they really have to check to see whether I have a Playboy in my locker?"
Then there is manager Clint Hurdle and GM O'Dowd. Hurdle, who has guided the team to a Philistine 302-376 record since 2002, as well as fourth or fifth place finishes every year, was rewarded with a 2007 contract extension in the off-season. Hurdle also claims he became a Christian three years ago and says, "We're not going to hide it. We're not going to deny it. This is who we are."
O'Dowd, who also received a contract extension, believes that their 27-26 2006 record has resulted from the active intervention of the Almighty. "You look at things that have happened to us this year. You look at some of the moves we made and didn't make. You look at some of the games we're winning. Those aren't just a coincidence. God has definitely had a hand in this." Or maybe the management that prays together gets paid together.
O'Dowd and company bend over backward in the article to say they are "tolerant" of other views on the club, but that's contradicted by statements like this from CEO Monfort: "I don't want to offend anyone, but I think character-wise we're stronger than anyone in baseball. Christians, and what they've endured, are some of the strongest people in baseball. I believe God sends signs, and we're seeing those." Assumedly, Shawn Green (Jew), Ichiro Suzuki (Shinto) or any of the godless players from Cuba don't have the "character" Monfort is looking for.
Also, there are only two African-American players on the Rockies active roster. Is this because Monfort doesn't think black players have character? Does the organization endorse the statement of its stadium's namesake, William Coors, who told a group of black businessmen in 1984 that Africans "lack the intellectual capacity to succeed, and it's taking them down the tubes"? These are admittedly difficult questions. But these are the questions that need to be posed when the wafting odor of discrimination clouds the air.
Then there are the fans. I spoke with journalist Tom Krattenmaker, who has studied the connection between religion and sports. Krattenmaker said, "I have concerns about what this Christianization of the Rockies means for the community that supports the team in and around Denver--a community in which evangelical Christians are probably a minority, albeit a large and influential one. Taxpayers and ticket-buyers in a religiously diverse community have a right not to see their team--a quasi-public resource--used for the purpose of advancing a specific form of religion. Have the Colorado Rockies become a faith-based organization? This can be particularly problematic when the religion in question is one that makes exclusive claims and sometimes denigrates the validity of other belief systems."
You might think MLB Commissioner Bud Selig would have something stirring to say about this issue. But Selig, who hasn't actually registered a pulse since 1994, only said meekly, "They have to do what they feel is right."
It's not surprising that Selig would play it soft. First and foremost, Bud's First Commandment is "Thou Shalt Not Criticize the Owners. Second, Selig and Major League Baseball this year are experimenting for the first time with Faith Days at the Park. As if last season's Military Appreciation Nights weren't enough, the New York Times reported that this summer "religious promotions will hit Major League Baseball. The Atlanta Braves are planning three Faith Days this season, the Arizona Diamondbacks one. The Florida Marlins have tentatively scheduled a Faith Night for September." These religious promotions are attractive to owners because they leverage a market of evangelical Christians who are accustomed to mass worship in stadiums at events staged by sports-driven proselytizers like Promise Keepers and Athletes in Action.
As part of the MLB promotion, the Times reports, "local churches will get discounted tickets to family-friendly evenings of music and sports with a Christian theme. And in return, they mobilize their vast infrastructure of e-mail and phone lists, youth programs and chaperones, and of course their bus fleets, to help fill the stands."
At one of the Faith Days in Atlanta, the team will sell special vouchers. After the game, the stands will be cleared and then only those with the specially purchased vouchers will be re-admitted. Those lucky chosen "will be treated to an hour and a half of Christian music and a testimonial from the ace pitcher John Smoltz." Smoltz is the player who in 2004 opined on gay marriage to the Associated Press, saying, "What's next? Marrying an animal?" Good times for the whole family.
The Rockies right now are a noxious reflection of a time in US history when generals speak of crusades and the President recounts his personal conversations with Yahweh. ("You're doing a heckuva job, Goddy!")
If Monfort, O'Dowd and Hurdle want to pray on their own time, more power to them. But the ballpark isn't a church. Smoltz isn't a preacher. And fans aren't a flock. Instead of using their position of commercial power to field a God Squad, the Rockies might want to think about getting some decent players. There was once this guy named Babe Ruth. Not too much for the religion, and his character was less than sterling. But I hear he could play some decent ball.
:puke
I've been trying to find a reason to hate the Rockies. Problem solved.
oh dear.
hey clint while you're at it, can you ask god for overcast skis today at CBP so we have no excuses.
oh, and ask him why he hates philadelphia sports teams.

lets get some runs damnit
wes helms = fat POS
MVP MVP MVP
K #6?
So Jimmy Rollins had 212 hits this year but didn't bat .300? Jesus dude, take a walk every now and then.
he had 700 some at bats also. MLB record.
fargin rockies can hit. no stopping it. we need to out hit them to have a chance
so, why does Kyle Kendrick suck today?
716 at bats tho all time record
normally i complain about him not walking...but you cant do it this season...
lol @ utley on that fly out...he swung so angry at that pitch....he whiffed on like 15 straight curveballs this series and went up sayin im gonna put the next hook into the delaware swung as hard as ive ever seen him and just missed it
lol @ igy being a phillies fan again
nice strikeout...now get Holliday to groundout to Wes Helms

it has to be because its his day to throw on the side....not even charlie would bring him in
well they definitely said he could pitch in relief in game 1 and 2...if he didn't he would get the game 3 start
but i don't know why he would come in now
choke dawg is pathetic...although that looked like a balk
dumbest play ever?
how the farg can a power hitter who cant run get picked off?
wtf
What the farg?
someones over managing this game
i was listening at work to harry call the game, the second that rollins hit that triple i packed my shtein up, i walked a few blocks to 7-11 to gets some beers, and got on the train and came home. didn't even miss a whole inning.
this move had better work out or CBP will burn tonight!

charlie needs to be fired immediately after the game if not sooner
it was a total panic move. everyone knows hes a horrid game manager, but the only reason they are playing now is because of how manuel manages the clubhouse. so great.
if nothing else this 100% seals charlies fate....now if we can just get rid of reid this winter as well
charlie sealed his fate when they won the nl east. hes back.
but he runs a daycare, and that's cute for everybody...who cares if he can't manage a little league game, everbody is nice and happy with their coloring book and crayons, and that's all that matters
nope hes gone....he wasnt even 100% to come back after the division...more like 95....but now its over...everyone knows he a terrible manager anyway and he just single handedly lost an entire playoff series by himself
what kind of farging moron brings a starting pitcher into a playoff game with the bases loaded?
oh yeah...Charlie Manuel does
joe simpson from tbs has such a knack for stating the obvious. "This crowd sure got quiet after that grand slam" Really? Wow, that's a first.
farg THIS TEAM.
Thank god my wife is working out of home today as well and watching the game with me or I'd go next door and beat my neighbor with a 5 iron. It's actually funny watching her reaction as she could give a rats ass.
i guarantee you he's back. and yea the move sucked but lohse still gave up the grand slam to kaz freaking matsui.
its gonna be tough to win a world series with charlie butchering close games, cause they all aint gonna be easy for him even if gillicks gets a better pitching staff, playoff games are always tense and close and manuel will find a way to farg it up. he should be gone for that reason alone, but he will be back. the phillies are satisfied with 86 wins season and 2 games back in the wild card so long as they draw 2.5 million, theyll be fine with 89 wins, the nl east and 2 home playoff games.

Michael Bourn sucks.
hey...look who decided to show up
I am so farging pissed right now. I wish this crowd at CBP would revolt but since most are in on corporate tickets they just want to beat the traffic home.
OMG Utley got a hit. Still pissed as I think of Burrell up at the plate.
Burrell needs to swing for the fences cause Affeldt is ready for Howard and thats a guaranteed K.
foggs doing his best to stall fro affeldt...pitcht he ball douchey
how is this team in the playoffs
Burrell swinging fastball, gets a changeup. Best team ever.
this has now become comical. looks like the pressure was just to much. It's tough guys c'mon. Stud ace at home in game 1. Best offense in baseball that's going to put up a lot of runs, bullpen playing great down the stretch, speed on the bases, etc. no pressure. we got it.
and to top it off, may i present...................

So I didn't miss too much being at school (to hell with all of you with jobs where you can "work from home!"). I get in my car, turn on my XM radio, and it's 10-3. Oy.
Hopefully, it ends Saturday, because I'd hate to lose sleep Sunday night just to see them lose and be pissed off to start my week.

Oh, and I have no idea where igy's getting his idea that Cholly is gone because of this series. He's definitely back, in my opinion.
Unless they have Girardi in their hip pocket.
they have to make a manager change and i think they will...they had a great year making the playoffs...now its time to take that next step...new manager new bullpen add a starter and win a playoff series or two next year...if this team sits on the feel good story of making the playoffs and does nothing then i will not buy a single ticket for them next year...
the problem is more than any other sport baseball fans are Hoydas and women and they will be so happy with the same exact team coming back next year...theres no fans i hate more than phillie only fans...the kind of fan that today was standing up cheering when a phillie drew a two out walk down 10-4...sickening
so really i have no reason to feel optimistic but i do for whatever reason...mostly because it isnt fathomable to me that a major league team would bring charlie back....even the phillies
didn't now Charlie blew a 2 games to 0 lead when he was at Cleveland to the Red Sox?

Like I said, only if the Phils have Girardi in their hip pocket do I believe they will make a change. That would be to give Cholly a "promotion" upstairs and higher Girardi as field manager.
And I do not think that the Phillies front office and ownership is capable of this maneuver.
Or do you want the Phils to fire Cholly and bring Davey Lopes or Jimy Williams managing next year? Do you think they'd jettison Cholly to bring one of those up? That sounds suspiciously more like "The Phillies Way."
i would not mind seeing lopes run this team.
This team is a collection of farging funholes.

Edmonton is up 4-3. 1:25 left, Flyers in the offensive zone on an Oiler icing. Net is empty.
looks like no one really gives much of a rats ass about the phils tonight. nervous distractions abound.

what a pathetic offensive effort...this team deserves to get swept
aaalllrrriiiggghhhtttt! we finally get a call our way.
that the farg was the cripple trying to do out there?
burrell's career in the outfield summed up in one play. enjoy Anaheim next year pat.
"Rockies getting it done..." Burrell letting them get it done. bastich. :boom
don't panic fellas, phils are playing real loose and with a sense of urgency. oh, excuse me as i put the monkeys back in my ass.

my wife is watching with me now and even she said "wtf is he doing? Is that the same guy that sucks in the field?"
welcome to our world sweetie.
First Burrell gives up a run, then he makes it impossible for the Phils to score runs. Way to go, bum.
this is just a pathetic attempt at baseball. where in the hell is the sense of urgency? farg pat burrell! his ass can't get out of town fast enough.
i'm going down stairs for another beer.

Amazing, isn't it? 2 men on, both walked so Trish goes up and swings at the 1st pitch he sees.......which was out of the strike zone.
hey, i got two 40 yard line seats for the Hawaii/Utah St. game which starts in 20 minutes. Don jr. has no desire to go. beat-from his pop warner game today. any takers?

Signs of life from the fightless Phils?
On Vic's homer, you can see Torrealba pound his mitt. Not only was he shaken off on that pitch, then Jiminez hangs the pitch he wanted.
I've been there...
oh man did we need another run there.
i just hope this doesn't come down to rowand at the plate with the game on the line. i may have to leave the house.

ok, do any of you still on the board have any, i mean just a tiny, minuscule ounce of hope, faith or belief we can pull this off?
didn't think so.
Nice to see our biggest bats take a shtein all over the playoffs.
Utley, Rowand...you can both thank yourselves for the sweep you're about to be handed.
Thanks for nothing.

Rowand has been especially brutal at bat in this game. Looks like he's trying to golf chasing some of that shtein.

swing and miss is a good start.
sonofabitch.
this was just about the only way to ruin the feelings i had last sunday...
Well, were the playoffs everything you thought they would be?
choking farging losers. i'm sorry but this was bullshtein. no heart, no life, out coached (no surprise there) out hustled, out everything. 100% crap. i am totally embarrassed.
if i have to listen to manuel's post game comments i just might pour gasoline on my self and light a match.
my wife and i are headed out for mexican food and you can count on the margaritas flowing tonight.
all in all people thanks for making this season fun. we had a lot of memories on the phils thread all season.
don't get me wrong, i am fuming right now but thanks.
Aloha!
Don
i have some seriously messed up thoughts in my head right now...but i'm going to spare everyone their depravity
i blame Wingspan...he never should've started this thread, but he had to be a bigshot thread starter
its less fun when you cant blame manuel or the bullpen or something. the blame is so clearly on rollins, utley, burrell, rowand and howard. they were putrid. its their fault and their fault alone.
while that's true...charlie still shouldn't be back as he is the worst manager in the game
yea manuel is horrible in game manager, but they made the playoffs despite it. and it wasnt his fault they lost in the playoffs, it was the top 5 guys in the lineup who didnt bother showing up.
manuel did a great job with the clubhouse. they are, undoubtedly, a bunch of bitches. but he catered to them and it worked. if the lineup shows up...this series is still going on.
i've had three hours to calm down and think this over. hats off to Jamie Moyer. Guy was stellar when we needed him to step up big. Great game tonight. I am very proud of this guy.
Rowand looked scared shteinless up there tonight. For a guy with world series experience from just a couple of years ago he was just terrible. mindboggling.
matsui was killer. clutch.
and if i hear one more person comment on the celebration sunday effecting their play i'll jump into a volcano. please.
hey after we were 4-11 in April and that horrible loss in Atlanta in september it's a minor miracle we are even referencing the NLDS.
[dodgers]Hey guys, at least you guys made the playoffs[/dodgers]
Rownad was lousy most of the last month of the season. Hit like he just wasn't seeing pitches at all.
I'm not laying this on Rollins. He actually DID get on base and did some good in the series.
Utley and Rowand were HORRENDOUS for .300 regular season batters.
The main difference with Howard: usually his strikeouts come from agressiveness, and flailing at bad pitches. In the series, the majority of his strikeouts came on called third strikes. The passivity he displayed was the main thing that really disappointed me.
As for Utley, he just didn't seem to hit the ball at all. Whether he was pressing, or just picked a bad time for a slump, or whatever, at least he was more aggressive.
Burrell was Burrell. No more, no less.
Rollins didn't have a great average, but he did some things to keep the Phils in the games. He got on base, stole bases, and played stellar defense.
Other than Kendrick (who wasn't given a chance to get out of that big inning in Game 2), the starting pitching was good. The relief pitching in game 1 and 3 was good as well. It was the lineup's strikeouts - and inability to cash in on the chances they got - that killed the Bums in this series.
Rollins: 2/11, 1 HR, 2 BB, 3 K, .182 BA, .944 OPS
Utley: 2/11, 2 BB, 5 K, .182 BA, .490 OPS
Burrell: 2/11, 1 HR, 2 BB, 3 K, .182 BA, .763 OPS
Howard: 3/12, 1 HR, 7 K, .250 BA, .808 OPS
Rowand: 1/12, 1 HR, 4 K, .083 BA, .416 OPS
so the big 5 were a combined 10/57 (.175 BA). Impossible to win when everyone goes cold at the same time...
The Rockies pitched better, hit better, played better defense and flat-out did what was necessary to win the series.
I know it's fun to point at the Phillies and scream "CHOKE JOB!" but the reality of the situation is what it is. The Rockies simply beat the Phillies in every measurable way.
Congrats to them.
PS: Here's hoping their plane goes down in a snow storm on the way to Arizona.
:D

couldnt agree more...taking third strikes in the playoffs is inexcusable...taking third strikes to end a playoff game should result in a death sentence
at least this year the bats went to sleep in the playoffs rather than the last two weeks of the season
the big offseason key is whether the ownership is just happy with doing what they did this year or do they want to take that next step and resign rowand fire manuel and sign some pitchers

Why would they hire Manuel when Joe Torre will be their new manager come tomorrow?
:=)
I might jizz myself if that happened.
If only Torre could bring the Yankee's deep pockets with him.
