The good:
- B Dub had 17 carries for 96 yards.
- Captain Fair Catch (AKA Reno Mahe) showed Greg Lewis and J.R. Reed how to hold on to punts. Got a nice round of applause. Eaglefan showing the love!
- The O-linemen showed that they're still good run blockers. Too bad they don't get to do it very often.
- Omar Gaither was a beast last night. 8 tackles (including two where he blew up Clinton Portis).
- Avant's getting it done. 5 catches last night, giving him 8 for the year. That's 5 more than Reggie Brown.
The bad:
- There was a lot of talk about Marty Morninwheg calling the plays this year. Guess all the talk was wrong, huh? Wiz attempted 46 passes last night. Typical Big Red playcalling.
- B Dub had only 17 carries for only 96 yards. Why didn't Big Red keep the ball in his hands? He was clearly the Eagles' best offensive player on the field.
- The WRs couldn't get open often, but when they did, Wiz couldn't hit them.
- Reggie Brown took a HUGE step backwards so far this season. I think he just dropped another pass.
- Will James got toasted last night.
- The D-line wore down as the game went on.
- The defense managed just 1 sack for the game.
- Rocca averaged only 39 yards per punt. Where were the booming punts?
The ugly:
- The Eagles can't finish drives. They got into the red zone 4 times and got 9 points to show for it. The other FG was just outside the red zone.
- Wiz clearly isn't anywhere near healthy. His knee's still injured and his mechanics are way off. He threw off his back foot all night.
- While I'm on the subject, will Wiz learn to take something off of those passes? He could compensate a bit for the mechanical problems with that.
- Why did Big Red stop calling for the run? It was the only thing that regularly worked against Washington.
- What's up with the time out just before the half? Freezing the kicker? It apparently worked. He was so thoroughly frozen that Campbell threw a TD pass in place of a FG. With 9 years on the job, Big Red should've figured out clock management by now.
- With the exception of Kevin Kolb, the Eagles looked dejected going into the tunnel at halftime. That's a sign of a team with no heart.
- The Eagles didn't get a first down in the 2nd half until there were barely more than 5 minutes in the 3rd quarter.
- Paging Tony Hunt...paging Tony Hunt. Where was he last night?
- Kearse had 0, that's z-e-r-o tackles last night. What happened to The Freak?
Did you notice...
- Wiz limping at the end of a 3rd quarter scramble?
- This bit of dialogue between Mike Tirico and Charles Barkley.
Tirico: "If the Eagles didn't lose two fumbles last week, they would've beaten Green Bay."
Barkley: "If I didn't eat so much, I wouldn't be fat!"

He was rocking the street clothes on the sideline. Deactivated.

Yes, everyone watching the game noticed both of those things, I'm sure. Neither were subtle in any way.
Here are my observations from last night:
1. McNabb sucks and shouldn't be playing right now. If he's hurt or rusty or whatever he is hurting the team with every snap that he takes.
2. William James is atrocious.
3. Westbrook is good.
4. The defense is better than I thought it was, but is still not good enough to make up for the abortion on offense.
5. Andy Reid is an idiot. To the point where it's almost impossible to believe some of the shtein he does. Freezing a kicker in the first half of a 6-3 game? In fact, I don't even think that he's trying right now.
6. The 'talent' in the return game is awful. They can't block there's no chance of any of the returners ever making anything happen on their own.
7. Neither Reggie Brown nor Kevin Curtis can handle the velocity of McNabb's passes, which hardly matters since his passes are so rarely anywhere near them.
8. Avant has hands. For real.
9. Kearse sucks.
10. Cole sucks.
11. Sav Rocca is the only player I'm actually rooting for.
1. i think dpierce should kill himself

couldn't agree with you more. look like a bunch of guys playing musical chairs and no one wants to be out so they just slowly circle the chairs. awful.
Lost in the disaster last night is how good Buck was returning kicks. He looked better than anyone we've had since Reed was healthy in 04.
Here's an observation:
That sucked and I am getting a new hobby.
Good
1. Bunkley and Gaither look pretty good. Bunk/Patterson/Gaither should be a pretty solid middle for years.
2. Gocong. He hasn't made a lot of plays, but he also hasn't been getting exsposed. Not hearing his name called right now could be a good thing.
3. Brian Westbrook and the running game.
Bad
1. Everything else. Play calling sucks. Special Teams blocking is horrible. Reid needs to stop trying to pass so much with a QB who's coming off an ACL tear. icehole.

Good: First preseason hockey game was last night
I observed that it felt essentially like the end of an era.
Think we can lure Cowher early?
farg it, I'd take Kotite back at this point. Clueless has to work better than Useless.
1. McNabb shouldn't be playing. He is obviously not healthy. Stick the ego in a sock and sitdown. Last night was the worst I've ever seen him play. He's not the most accurate passer when he's 100%. Last night the way he was throwing was embarrassing. I guarantee Feeley could have done better, I don't care how open his receivers were. McNabb was hanging them out to dry big time, throwing over their heads and behind them. By the time the fourth quarter came, it was too little too late. Campbell made McNabb look like a high schooler.
2. Reid shouldn't be coaching. Go the farg home. Try to be a father to your incarcerated, and drug addict kids. His gameplan was the worse I've ever seen. His farging press conference was even worse. If he actually believes what he says, fire him now. I can't even stand to look at him and hear his monotone bullshtein. I don't give a farg how many championship games he's been in, or Superbowls. He is coaching like a complete farging idiot, and his drafts are even worse. I couldn't believe what I was seeing last night. Pass after pass. When is he ever going to get it through his thick, fat farging head that you have to run the ball to win?
3. The D could be pretty good if they could play with a lead of more than 6 pts. and weren't getting wore out.
4. Cambell to Moss is a pretty great hookup for the taterskins. Moss is a burner that gets open a lot, and Campbell can drop it right in his breadbasket. Why the farg can't Reid draft a receiver the likes of Moss? I remember when he came out, I wanted him more than any other receiver in the draft. He'd be perfect in this offense.
5. If Andy Reid eats one more cheesteak, he might blow the farg up. DAMN, he's one fat ass bitch. I bet his waist size is closer to 60" than it is 50"

Weren't you one of the ones that told me I was wrong when I declared this after week 1?
donovan obviously deserves some of the blame, but he's obviously favoring the the leg and it's affecting his throws. the head coach and off coord HAVE to see that and adjust and they need to take 85% of the blame for the offenses struggles.
Westbrook averaged 5.6 yards per carry and only carried it 17 times, Buckhalter got one carry, i can only remember one screen pass. all that stuff helps a quarterback who is struggling. but they kept spreading 4 wide outs, putting him in the shotgun and throwing the ball, it was farging maddening.

the system will prevail
what system?
I could go for an icy "Mike Mamula" right about now.
andy reids system...no matter how wack the wr's or how hurt the qb....
in Carson Palmer's first game last year after the same injury...he was 13/19 for 127...19 attempts.
meanwhile, Rudi Johnson had 28 rushing attempts for 1 less yard than Westbrook had last night
of course in his second game, he was 24/40
but farging rudi still had 26 carries
he also has great wr's which if the eagles had you could somewhat defend 46 passing attempts
you could never defend 46 passing attempts with Donovan looking the way he looked last night and the score being the way it was

But now McNabb can't buy the time he used to.
Heck, Trotter could probably run him down.
I don't think so. McNabb was running out of tackles yesterday, not all the time but he showed good mobility to me considering he's playing on a knee that's around 80%.
That's as close as anything to me saying Dmac was healthy that I could find. Still, I thought that he was healthier than he showed last night.
I agree, Reid should have taken his health into account and gameplanned around it. Why he has this massive hard-on for McNabbs arm is beyond me. He needs to rip out 20-30 pages of his playbook and simplify things.
one of the questions going into this season was if they were going to gameplan and call plays for Donovan the same way they did for Jeff Garcia...it's obvious they aren't and it's the biggest reason they are 0-2.

he would if the quarterback was giving Sean Taylor free shots at CJs ribs every time
wow how scary a proposition is it to have to play against taylor and landry for the next ten years
Palmers line last weekend:
33 comp. 50 att.
401 yds. 6 td's.
Thats how you defend over 47 attempts. Not like the way Dmac looked last night, and Ried insults every Eagle fan out there when he does. He looks like he doesn't give a rats ass about Eagle fans every time he steps in front of the mike.

The good thing about the taterskins is you can always pull the race card
And really, it's not like this team is as bad as last night. Reid isn't giving them a chance with the farged up gameplan. If he would run the ball, we would have had a chance. You give Bwest the ball 25 times a game, he will break some big runs. It would only be a matter of time. If he gets hurt, then thats a chance you have to take, 'cause whats going on now just ain't getting it done.
its not even just westbrook its running the ball period...why the farg is tony hunt not getting 5-7 carries a game...i want a god damn explanantion as to why he isnt getting on the field...if he sucks and you missed on yet another draft pick just say so...but farging explain it cause i dont understand

Alright now. Were was Hunt anyway? And Buck gets one carry?? The only person who might understand that is Spewdickhead.
hunt was deactivated and they will say they didnt have room on the active roster for him which is complete bullshtein...again i ask why cant your 3rd round draft pick get on the field...its a running back who had a trillion carries in college we arent talking about chris gocong here
i called Hunt being deactive as soon as they signed Mahe, there is no way they are going to have 4 active running backs on the game day roster
mahe is not a running back...he replaced jr reed/lewis as strictly a return man so they can claim it has an effect on the roster but it doesnt...or you could easily deactivate greg lewis...hes worthless...or basket another bum...or one of their 47 offensive linemen
i know...i'm with you, but i saw this day the minute that stupid Hawaiian re-signed with the eagles

Reid doesn't play Rookies before week 10 (or there abouts). When was the last time a rookie was drafted during the Reid era that started in week 1? Honest question because I have no idea. Did Andrews start week 1?
i'm pretty sure andrews started and broke his leg in the opener his rookie year
Deactive Lewis, he hasn't exactly impressed as a "gunner", and I'd rather see Baskett get time at WR then him.

I don't know why you'd want that. The team's been great in the red zone.
the new spads article suggests running more sort of like the 2nd half of 06 and playing smash mouth football in the redzone.
you know its bad when he is echoing what everyone already knows and has been saying for yrs now.
It's inexcusable that it was not the gameplan for a prime time home opener against a divisional opponent, and it's only worse that Dave is mentioning it in his column now.
This team is not a contender and thus it's time to do what's best to rebuild.
I don't have much to add here because it's all been said by others in numerous threads already but I did want to say that I thought the cheerleaders looked splendid the other night.
Oh, and the big American flag was spiffy-looking too.
Ha ha stupid 2-0 teams. I like to think of the Birds as, losing their's up front, setting up the league for a strong finish. You don't wanna peak too early. :=)
