Title: Dline Fodder .............
Post by: MURP on June 02, 2007, 09:28:05 PM
The Dline has noticeable less fodder than all positions on the eagles roster right now.   Only 3 guys on this list have no chance of making it.  The rest figure to make the team and serve some sort of use.   In comparison, their are 13 WR's on the roster now, 10 LB's on the roster etc.    If the Dline is to be a "strength" (Joe Banners words) this year, they need to stop over using the Dline and let these guys rest.   Get some freakin fodder on the team for training camp asap.  Of course, nobody will care until there are a couple injuries .... then Juqua Thomas and Ian Scott are the starters.

75     Thomas, Juqua      DE     6-2     250     7     Oklahoma State     Houston, TX
78    Abiamiri, Victor    DE    6-4    267    R    Notre Dame    Randallstown, MD
58    Cole, Trent    DE    6-3    270    3    Cincinnati    Xenia, OH
90    Howard, Darren    DE    6-3    275    8    Kansas State    St. Petersburg, FL
93    Kearse, Jevon    DE    6-4    265    9    Florida    Fort Myers, FL
95    McDougle, Jerome    DE    6-2    264    5    Miami (FL)    Pompano Beach, FL
65    Murrell, Marques    DE    6-2    246    R    Appalachian State    Fayetteville, NC
97    Bunkley, Brodrick    DT    6-2    300    2    Florida State    Tampa, FL
76    Clark, Jeremy    DT    6-3    309    R    Alabama    Daphne, AL
98    Patterson, Mike    DT    6-0    292    3    USC    Los Alamitos, CA
77    Ramsey, LaJuan    DT    6-3    300    2    USC    Compton, CA
94    Reagor, Montae    DT    6-3    285    9    Texas Tech    Waxahachie, TX

Agreed, the D-line worked well with the rotation early on last year until Alan Alda and hotlips showed up.

Losing Kearse really hurt, and I would think they'll take it easy with him at camp and during the pre-season.

I think this line could be pretty good though. I'd like to see Bunkley (http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/homeNewsDetail.jsp?id=70342) have a good second year. It's time for him to show us somethin'. He's a first round pick and needs to make an impact.

Thats the problem.  This line has had the potential to really good for the past couple of years.  But either through misuse or injury (probably the same thing) the Dline always falls short.  Which I think is MURP's point.

Kearse was hurt three games into the season, not at training camp, but I get the point. Thats why I said I hope they take it easy on him.

Players get hurt in camp all the time. It will happen again this year. If you want to say that players get hurt because of camps that work them too hard or use them too much, I can see your point. It can be said of most all teams.

I've always thought that in this day and age of football that there is so much at stake that everything you can do to protect your best players, you should do. I think the pre-season is too long and never understood why players have to nearly kill themselves in extreme heat to get ready for the season. How does playing in 100 degree heat get you ready to play in The Medowlands or New England in January? Training camp should be more for the rookies anyway. Bring in bodies and let your vets have needed downtime during workouts.

i agree if youre talking about saving them in traning camp...but as far as the whole rotation thing im totally against it...do you want the same two guys out there for the whole game no...but this bunch of good players rollin ina nd out is crap

i want the best players on the field for most of the game...id rather a semi tired great player be out there in the 4th quarter than a rested juqua thomas

I am talking about saving them in training camp so they are not dead week 1.  The Eagles Dline is notorious every year for "getting tired" and breaking down throughout the season.

Your gonna' keep seeing the rotation 'cause there isn't a player on this D's line who will make JJ play him every down. Understand........I was spoiled by Reggie and Jerome......but still, there ain't a player on this line who can make a real impact. Name one guy you really can say plays the run and the pass well enough to be a pro bowler? There isn't one unless Kearse stay healthy. Thats why you will keep seeing JJ's rotation.

I swear that maybe 25% of the game time wear and tear on those guys just comes from running on and off the field because of that rotation.

i dont know how true that is...i think it may have more to do with their philosophy

but if youre correct and they just dont have any true starting DL then they may want to reevaluate (ie. nuke) their front office.....

03 - DL first rounder
05 - DL first rounder
06 - DL first rounder

04 - signed the #1 FA DL
06 - signed the #1 FA DL
07 - signed 2 DL FA

It's a good point. How many late pre-season games do you see DL and OL, who might actually play a role during the season, playing with a bunch of scrubs who have no shot at making the team? If there are injuries, some guys play too many snaps in meaningless pre-season games just because of a numbers crunch.

It's ironic that you find a stereotypical racial joke funny, wouldnt you say?

what a surprise.... and it is only the first week of camp.....

Quote4:03 PM: Because of his good morning, Darren Howard is even earning a few snaps at defensive tackle. Part of that is also no doubt that, with Ian Scott and Montae Reagor missing the afternoon practice, the Eagles are a little short at interior line.

I'm on the Scott bandwagon.  If he's missing time, it's because he's too busy cleaning Chuck Norris' blood off his dick.
