Who's an absolute lock to make the team? Who might be cut? Who's a lock to be cut?
DE's:
Juqua Thomas - lock to make team
Victor Abiamiri - lock to make team
Trent Cole - money in the bank
Darren Howard - could go either way
Jevon Kearse - lock to make team
Jerome McDougle - GONE
Marques Murrell - PS if he's lucky
4 locks IN, 1 ?, 2 with near 0 chance of making 53
DT's:
Brodrick Bunkley - lock to make team
Jeremy Clark - PS if that
Mike Patterson - lock to make team
LaJuan Ramsey - could go either way
Sam Rayburn - GONE
Montae Reagor - lock to make team
Ian Scott - lock to make team
4 locks IN, 1 ?, 2 with near 0 chance of making 53
So, they could keep anywhere from 8-10. Keep in mind if Gocong and/or Bradley are supposed to be used as "pass rushing" LB's, that might be one less DE they keep. Dunno.
Considering they drafted a defensive end and signed two free agent DT's, I'd say Howard had better bring his playbook with him to mini-camp.
Juqua Thomas - LOCK
Victor Abiamiri - LOCK
Trent Cole - GAWD
Darren Howard - hes like 3 mil dead money if hes cut...LOCK
Jevon Kearse - LOCK
Jerome McDougle - RIP
Marques Murrell - RIP
DT's:
Brodrick Bunkley - LOCK
Jeremy Clark - RIP
Mike Patterson - LOCK
LaJuan Ramsey - 20/80 to stay
Sam Rayburn - RIP
Montae Reagor - 85/15 to stay
Ian Scott - 50/50 to stay
Ian Scott signing a one year deal is pretty similar to last year's Ed Jasper signing. If Ramsey has progressed, Ian won't make the team. I have a hard time believing Rayburn will make it.
Jerome's gone along with Marques Murrell (whoever that is)
This should clear up the situation a bit:

I think he'd have to be an absolute beast for Scott to not make the team. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to cut him. Ramsey can just ride with the inactives like last season.

:-D Not really, bro.
I'd rather see them keep four defensive ends and use the roster position to keep another player elsewhere.
As far as the dead money thing goes, Howard has $2.8M left on his signing bonus for 2007. Does that still immediately become dead money or can they prorate it out to however many years he would have left on the deal if they cut him?
If it's an automatic hit, then he definitely stays.

This 'game' is retarded.
pssst....you're on the short bus too. of course it's retarded.

Howard is making the team. I don't see any possible way he doesn't...

Howard has a 1.5M roster bonus and a 2M salary--depending on when they're supposed to pay the roster bonus--that's 3.5M they would save--if he's cut after Jun 1, the cap hit is spent over 2 years--if they don't, they save 700K.
If Howard can stay healthy he's a force. I just hope that he has focused on his hamstrings in this off season. The eagles training staff has always kept this team healthy with hamstring issues compared to other teams. Heck it seems like the Saints never even tried.
i think with the Eagles having all of their "fastballs" back and ready for training camp as long as Kearse doesnt play another OT game due to Reid lack of game calling Howard should have a better season not playing 80% of snaps
Who in the Christ is Marques Murrell?
Answering my own question:
Undrafted Rookie Free Agent, signed by Philadelphia Eagles: A two-time first team All-America performer at Division I-AA Appalachian State, finished his career with 36 sacks and a school-record 18 forced fumbles. Notched 13 sacks in both his junior and season seasons, fueling his school to two consecutive national championships in 2005 and 2006. In the 2005 title game, forced a key fumble that was returned by Jason Hunter for the winning TD in a 21-16 triumph over Northern Iowa. Registered 21 sacks over his final two seasons at Jack Britt HS in Fayatteville, NC, to earn all-region honors. Is the younger brother of former NFL running back Adrian Murrell. Born 3/20/85.
"A couple of scouts have mentioned that they saw him workout at other places and said that he has made some major strides toward playing outside linebacker," Dillman said. "He's playing catch-up right now, but the gains he has made are tremendous."
The thing that hurts Marques is that he didn't play outside linebacker here. He's not big enough to play defensive end at that level, although somebody might wind up taking a chance and put some weight on him to try defensive end." said Jeff Dillman, the Mountaineers' strength and conditioning .
Your own coach says you are a scrub, nice. Thanks Jeff!
hey he as much chance at OLB as gocong
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mQ3YNYFo10
plus he passes the name and look tests
Murrell isn't a scrub at all, he's just really small. He'd be a very, very good 3-4 OLB. For that reason I'm surprised he wasnt drafted. Him and the other Appalachian State DE (cant remember the name) absolutely tore up D-1AA for the past two seasons. Murrell had like 25 sacks and 10 FF the past two years.
Div I-AA > Div II
So I guess to bring it back on topic, there is no chance he makes it as DE, but maybe as LB.

Div I-AA > Div II
...Thanks for the lesson of basic college sports, igy.
murrell > gocong ??
Cal Poly is D-1AA as well. Nice job.
No.
Barksdale > Gocong > Murrell > Rayburn > UDFA white boy WR > Donovan McSuck
!!
Cal Poly is D-1AA as well. Nice job.
no dunn dunn im saying dont you think murrell is just as good as gocong
Then what the hell was the point of "Div -1AA > Div II"?
Murrell isnt as good as Gocong. Not even close. Gocong is/was way quicker off the line, 30 pounds heavier and a lot stronger, even with his dough boy body.
i was talking about at OLB...murrell has just as much chance to be a pro sam as gocong does...no?
or is gocong better because the eagles drafted him where they did and murrell is a UDFA
like what have you seen in gocong that you dont see in murrell (at OLB)
murrell is more the ideal size and has a body for an OLB and he plays much faster in space
Now that I think about it, Murrell could probably make a really good MLB. He has all the tools for it, but I dont know about instincts and shtein like that.
Obviously neither of us have seen anything of either player at OLB. Gocong is a lot stronger and presumably would hold up better there. No one really knows for sure.
From what I've seen, Murrell could be a franchise caliber full back. He also knows the atomic number of helium and can dance on three toes.

Who doesn't/can't?
From Dave:
QuoteThere are too many defensive tackles on this roster, so it wouldn't surprise me a bit to see the Eagles make some kind of roster move on Friday at some point.
BYE BYE RAYBURN.

Maybe theyll trade for Darwin Walker's contract and leg
Bunkley's so gone, man.
They'll trade him and McDougle for a 4th-round bust to be named later.
Oh man, I hope it's a white guy.

Reagor's crash really had to be bad. He looks worse than Fedoruk after breaking his face/orbital bone for the second time. I'm guessing his entire left side collapsed. Heck, he might scare the o lineman if he keeps looking like that
