Bush Hunt was a game we used to play in high school.
I like the pick a lot. I really hope they get another third rounder and take a safety, they dont have a 4th at all either.
hi everyone, you used to know me as Lamar Gordon.
Finally... one I can feel good about from the start.

ha ha, oh wait, is Tony Hunt supposed to be the imaginary running back that Andy Reid hands the ball off to on every 3rd and 1 ?
fiction can be fun.

you are wrong. Phil Yeboah Kody is GOD.
I actually liked Tony Hunt at PSU because he is a tough dood. A fun college RB to watch because of that at times. I just think he is an overachiever who has no business being drafted in the 3rd round. He is a 6th round flyer IMO. I cant see him ever being anything more than an average to below average backup in the NFL. Those kind of RB's are a dime a dozen. Hey, I hope I am wrong, but I am going to call it as I see it regardless of college.
I don't mind getting Hunt I just mind spending a 3rd rounder on him. He's not worth it, he's slow to the hole and I wouldn't have touched him till the second day. Bad pick.
Good pick
Very good pick.
1/4 and that 1 is a B. Winnar.

I fell asleep last night and am very glad to wake up to at least one piece of good news.
Hunt has value at #90, even if the PSU haters disagree.
yep...finally, the big back they've needed.
and now i can get an eagles jersey with the name hunt on the back. :yay
Quote90. Philadelphia — Tony Hunt, RB Penn State: A good power runner who can punch the ball through the line between the tackles, he was always underappreciated as a collegian because he wasn't flashy. While he's not going to bust off any big runs and he's not a special back who'll go to a Pro Bowl, he'll be a good number two, change-of-pace back to carry the ball for tough yards late in the game.
I like this pick better than the first two. Hunt could be the perfect compliment for Bwest.

It's obvious they'll have to run 30-40 times a game to help this defense. Their best value pick of day one, no doubt.

Although I wouldn't say I "hate" it, I am not pumped about the pick except for sentimental reasons.
IGY and I said the same thing yesterday. He needs 15-20 carries to be effective. Where the hell is gonna get that many carries in this offense?
they already have a backup rb with injury concerns so i imagine that's why they stayed away from m.bush.

yup
and ill say it again...hes not a back up rb....hes either good enough to be in the league as a 30 carry guy or hes not in the league at all

You don't seem too fond of Westbrook either, who do you like?
Westbrook needs to be the main weapon used in this offense. If they have a lead, they can pound the ball with hunt. He can catch the ball and is a good blocker, with the big negative being his lack of top end speed.
I don't see why somebody can hate this pick.
I love Westbrook. But's he's fragile as shtein and it's a vertual lock that he'll miss time every single year. OK, so bring in a big back like Hunt, right?
I see what you're saying. In theory it fills a need. But in the context of this draft and the fact that they already used a pick on an offensive player while the defense has glaring holes and no depth, this pick sucks ass.
rjs wants a big bruising back but not at the expense of making some effort to improve on defense.
what are you, his spokesman?
I can agree to an extent, but they NEED a big back that's not held together by paper clips and chewed bubble gum.
For the role they need him to fill, Hunt doesn't need top end speed. He needs to be able to pick up two yards on 3rd and 1. If he can do that on a regular basis I don't care if he can't break a long one, that's not what they need him for.

I agree with all of this. But they need to pay attention to defense and they aren't doing that. I've been screaming for a big back for years, but why here and now? I don't get it.
terrible technique?
Well, yes, now that you mention it.
moronic method!
rjs... you keep screaming that they didn't address the defense when you've got STEWART fargING BRADLEY staring you in the face. Pay attention!!!!!
Because Buckhalter sucks... if they hadn't screwed the pooch with that Kolb fiasco the Hunt pick would be icing on the cake. That bit of lunacy (which still makes no sense - "best player/ no needs" my ass) threw a wrench into everything. If they had gone S/CB, Kolb, Bradley, Hunt (with a trade of the current wastes on the team and/or some low round picks) no one would be saying a word negatively right now.

Bingo. Sadly, they did screw the pooch. Right in the goat ass.
I think that's a reflection of the top of their draft, not this specific pick, at least for me.
I think they can help their defense more by running the ball like they did with Garcia than any one player they could have gotten at 36. At least that's the positive spin I'm trying to put on it. :paranoid
Hi, long time lurker, first time poster! ;D
I'm not familiar with Hunt's college career, but from his draft description, I'm hopeful he'll be the power back the Eagles sorely need to close out a game. Instead of having swing passes to BWest posing as a running game during leads in the 4th quarter, they may actually be able to rest Donovan and BWest by pounding it with Tony... ::)
First thing I thought of when reading Tony Hunt's bio was Leroy Hoard:
"If you need one yard, I'll get you three. If you need five yards, I'll get you three."
Yo, welcome.
Hey. With them drafting Ilaoa I can see Hunt being a FB and Ilaoa the change of pace. Not sure Ilaoa would fit as a FB, but I think Hunt would.
Since there's one on Iloa's thread, here's a highlight video for Tony Hunt:

The five seconds of blurry video capture stillshot was awesome.
he doesnt look that big and that slow in that clip video.
as long him and the Hawaiian dude can pick up the tough yards so we dont have to pass to tapeh in the flat on 3rd and 1s im happy.
theres a very good chance the hawaiian dood doesnt make the team...im not sure we shoul be putting him in some sort of backfield rotation
was Rich Kotite brought in to evaluate our draft needs? A phew pick from PSU

His name was Thomas Tapeh. And even though he ain't that great, the defense was a farging mess. They needed more attention.

the defense is not a mess...it just needs more fast balls so JJ can really mix it up.
too bad every team has pretty much figured him out and our defense is only effective when the team we play makes a mistake.

id look fast playing in the big ten...hunt is slow...but who cares...they didnt get him to break 80 yard touchdown runs they already have one of those....hunt will be fine
i think the area im most excited to see him is not in short yardage but in the screen game...the eagle run that play to perfection and hunt was so good on screens at penn st
I'm excited to see a RB who can actually pick up the blitz every now and then and keep #5 off of his ass.
Is it confirmed/agreed that Hunt can do that? He's a decent blocker? I haven't seen any YouTube clips of him picking up the blitz.
He was good at it in college. Which means precisely dick now, but for what it's worth...
I'm excited to see a RB who can actually pick up the blitz every now and then and keep #5 off of his ass.
that too...passing down sets with westbrook split wide and hunt in the backfield to either give extra protect or sneak out for a screen or flat pass will be niiiiice
yes dio he is an excellent blocker...ive seen him pancake many a linebacker...i wouldnt be opposed to converting hunt to fullback...i mean everyone wanted leonard so bad...hunt can do everything leonard can and some of it better...i would have no problem cutting tapeh and going with hunt at fb/rb
He's a nice changeup to the speed and elusiveness that Westy brings. Heck i'd be happy with Hunt as #2 and Illaoa as the 3rd rb. the good thing is Buck should be even better this year with his knee having more time to heal.
I don't think that'll happen, but I'd be okay with it if it did. Tapeh hasn't lived up to his potential in that spot...the injury took something away from him, and he's only a mediocre lead blocker.

I actually thought he really excelled last year as a lead blocker, especially in open space. Isnt Zach Tuiasopo already on the PS?

Just as soon as McNabb's traded to Minny for McMullen.
Will they throw in Artis Hicks?

Andy's keeping Tony fresh so that next year he can draft Mike Hart and unravel the power thunder backfield.
of the eagles last 15 draft picks:
10 have not played a single down in the nfl
4 have been released
and the 15 picks have started a total of 12 nfl games

the funny thing about that is easy went good pick and that wasnt enough for phreak...he had to come stronger with VERY good pick
im pretty sure the two of them have never hated anything andy reid has done
i wasn't opposed to it either because momentarily i forgot they don't run the ball and never use the big back for that extra yd. instead he never saw the field because he couldn't block but then became FB and failed.
its funny because in general the thread is almost universally tempered...everyone is somewhere around solid pick to maybe a little to soon for hunt...and then theres phreak
I'm VERY sure I want to kill the both of you.
