Title: Wedding Bands? (Philly area)
Post by: Reidme on March 19, 2007, 03:56:21 PM
Scary, but in my time away from the computer, I've managed to get engaged.

Need a Wedding Band, as in Music. I know the Pep Band is available, and I did get to meet them at one of those Bob Kelly home tailgate invasion things, and another famous local couple used them at their wedding  ;), but I'm thinking more dance, rock, party, standards ......

Any reccomendations?

A good DJ is a lot better than a mediocre band IMO - less costly and more capable of playing a bunch of different stuff.

I'll second what FF said.  Often its tough getting a good band at a decent price.  We had a DJ from Schaeffer(sp?) Sound, the guy was a DJ at the Lagoon in philly.  He was better than what we thought he'd be.

I'll third the DJ remark.

Unless you're going to bring in a good (read: expensive) band...DJ is a much better way to go.

This is funny to me.  You get up from your computer to get a drink, maybe take a piss and somehow end up with a life sentence.  Congrats and get a dj.

Better advice.  Don't get married.  It's not at all what you think it will be.

LOL, PSN & FD, its my second time around, so I know what I'm in for. Its a very good story, I'll share at some point. In my time away, I have lost 100 lbs, done a year plus without a drink (past tense, thanks Key West), and quit a twenty year smoking habit. She's an Eagles fan.

MURP should be able to suggest some interesting bands.

We were going to get a band for our wedding. But th eonly decent ones started at $5000....and they were only decent.

We split the difference and had strings for the ceremony/coctails...and a good DJ for the reception.

We used Tom Barrett DJs - http://www.tombarrett.com/ they were excellent, they kept to our wish list and had many compliments from the guests.

DO NOT use ANY service provided by "The Pros" at all. NOTHING. If you do...you've been warned here. They are beyond terrible.

Ok, so you went on a diet, quit drinking and quit smoking.  I guess if I had nothing else to live for, I'd wanna get married again too.  Of course, there's always the distinct possibility that the wife will lead you back to smoking and drinking which will ultimately culminate with you gaining back the 100 lbs.  And then some.

Good luck, buddy!

That's quite an interesting choice of words.

Yep.  Only we had a harpist instead of a string quartet or whatever.  The "saved" money went into a separate frozen drink bar outside on the patio and upping the one main course option from prime rib to filet mignon.  It was a hell of a party.  Too bad I barely got to drink or eat.

Wing is entirely right, The PRO's suck horribly.  Dont even let your fiance try to talk you into going to their display, you might end up killing everyone there.
