The Philadelphia Eagles reached an agreement Friday with free agent RB Correll Buckhalter on a two-year contract. The deal is expected to eliminate the chance that the Eagles would sign free agent RB Ron Dayne, who visited the team earlier this week.

Correll Buckhalter, blunt roller, non-Mormon, Philadelphia Eagle

I like this for 2 reasons:
1. As long as he stays healthy he's not a bad #2
2. He's not Ron Dayne

good.   The thought of Ron Dayne makes me sick.   CBUCK really has impressed me since the injuries,  I thought CBUCK was not used nearly enough last year.   When he touched the ball he made things happen.   Just pray the health holds up.

i agree that buck is a better option than dayne...but don't let the eagles' media machine brainwash you into thinking they were the only 2 rb's available.
Title: Re: Correll Buckhalter, Philadelphia Eagle, s'more

Buck is still relatively young and has a good burst of speed; I just hope his knees hold up for two consecutive seasons.

But when I think of Buck I think of a "medium-sized" back; not someone who gets put in there to pick up tough yards. He's pretty much just another weapon to give Westbrook a break every once in a while; maybe get a few hand offs and dunk passes, but no more than 10-12 touches a game.

However, I think it is about time to abandon the whole "the Eagles need a big back that can pick up tough yards" bantering. 3rd and 1 is either going to be a roll-out that never materializes or some quick slant that the D is all over. This team is not a "tough yardage" team. It will pretty much always be a finesse team as long as Andy thinks the Eagles have a chance to win with McNabb throwing the ball 35-45 times a game, every game.

I take it you're a big Dillon fan?

I probably would have rather had Dillon also, but IMO Buck is better than Chris Brown or Ron Dayne.

Dillon would have been nice, but has he said he is willing to take under a 100 carries and basically be a very minimal  part of an offense?  He doesnt come across as that type of player.   I dunno.

Buck probably is better than Chris Brown, and Buck has so many years working in this offense. I like Buck being back, but I just hope he continues to be in good health and that he gets some meaningful carries in the game.

Put it another way, I hope they are bringing him back because the Eagles plan on utilizing him, and not just bringing him back so he can sit on the bench. Like MURP, I want to see him used more in this offense.

I still wouldn't mind seeing a tons of fun RB picked up, though. I wonder if there are any in the draft.

Moats is done. The guy has two good knees and still can't get on the field.

One of my guys sent that to me as a text message a couple of months ago, the song that goes with it is priceless.

As far as the Buckhalter thing goes I am glad he is back, though I would still like to see them bring in someone else, preferably through the draft.

He was apparently on the record as saying that coming to Philly to back up Westbrook was a scenario he'd be happy with.

It's a fine signing, now the Birds just need a backup RB for the season after Buck gets injured in the preseason.

Anyone think they still sign Dayne and go back to the 3-headed monster? They still have Moats, but I could see the Eagles dangling him as trade bait.

No. The current incarnation of the Eagles barely runs the ball enough to justify having 2 RBs get a touch in a game, let alone 3. Pretty sure the Eagles think they are set at RB with this signing. Not sure Dayne is any better than Moats, honestly.

No

I think they draft a RB and add him in the mix. We don't have Reno hogging up a RB roster spot any longer.

Probably right. I definitely still think they go RB in the draft though. Leonard or Hunt if they fall to the Eagles in the right spot.
Title: Re: Correll Buckhalter, Philadelphia Eagle, s'more
Post by: PoopyfaceMcGee on March 16, 2007, 03:27:25 PM
Dayne is a no way in hell, and I highly doubt they draft a RB any higher than the 3rd round.

I really hope they draft someone on day one.
Title: Re: Correll Buckhalter, Philadelphia Eagle, s'more
Post by: Feva on March 16, 2007, 04:06:49 PM
Why?

RB is pretty far down the list of needs this team has.  Personally, at this point... I'd be kinda bothered if all three of the 1st day picks weren't spent on defense... unless an offensive guy unexpectedly fell to them who was too good to pass up.
Title: Re: Correll Buckhalter, Philadelphia Eagle, s'more
Post by: The BIGSTUD on March 16, 2007, 04:10:07 PM
It depends on who is available. If in the 2nd round Hunt or Leonard are available, but also a defensive player they like also is then they probably take the defensive player. If not, then they probably take Leonard.

or maybe they trade back in the 2nd round for one.

I agree with this, unless a RB they're in love with is there and too hard to pass up.

Well...I did hear that Dillon named the Eagles as a team he would consider playing for, but that was a few weeks back. Spud's also reported that the birds DID inquire about Dillon, and supposedly spoke with him or his agent.  Ron Dayne can stay unemployed for all I care. I'd MUCH rather have Buck back, then to have Dayne. The guy worked hard to lose weight, and now he only looks and plays like 245 lbs of chewed bubble gum, and not 270 lbs of it....Seriously, has there EVER been a bigger back that was more ineffective in short yardage and goal line situations???
I think that the bird's thinking was that Buck knows the offense well, and he is a rather decent blocker on blitz pick up's....well, better than most of the available free agent backs....You willing to risk the entire season, and  D-Mac's health, to a FA RB who missed a blitz assignment??... I don't think the birds are either.

If Buck stays healthy, and that's a HUGE "IF", he is a very legit #2 RB. Would I have rather had Dillon over Buck.. yes, considering Buck's injury history...but that's really the only reason. Buck is still young in terms of playing time, and Dillon is some what on the decline. Chris Brown runs like a white dude, and looks stiff, with his upright running style....not the right fit here. I'm OK with this offense as it is now...Time to address the Defense! Mainly the LB and S positions. I'd love to upgrade at DT, but I guess asking for Robaire Smith to stuff the run, is asking too much. NO WAY they are going to get a DT via FA , so I won't even go there.. How about they suck it up and try to make a play for Lance Briggs????  Time to part with some draft pick's, Joe Banner.....GET LANCE BRIGGS in HERE!

Everyone rips Chris Brown for being so awful, but he had a 1,000 yard season under his belt, which is more than Buck can say. Would I rather have a healthy Buck than Brown? Probably, but Buck isn't healthy. Would've rather had Brown.

For all the criticisms of Brown you'd think his career high was 200 yards rushing.
