Title: Draft Day Trades
Post by: troyhstewart on February 28, 2007, 11:05:11 AM
They traded some veterans during the draft last year, there may be more this year. My vote is for L J and William Thomas for the right price.

tra thomas' cap number is 5 mil...he would be difficult to deal i think

and with the wr'ing core they are gonna have next year they need lj...trading him plus losing stallworth would be disaster

5 mill for an above average LT that probably has 5-6 good years left is extremely reasonable, especially in today's market. I think WT is signed thru 2008.   ???  I just don't see the reasoning behind Winston Justice sitting on the bench for 3 years, as long as he has been busting his ass to get on the field.

I've been doggin L J for a couple seasons now. I'd prefer a Jason Witten type TE, less athlete, more of a football player.

Just imagine if Detroit or cleveland came out of the draft with WT and Adrian Peterson or WT and Calvin Johnson. WOW

He's only 32, I think it's definitely possible. I consider his play last year his best season in 2 or 3, probably because he was in better shape due to the health concerns he had.

I dunno if he's got 5-6 solid years left in him.  I'd say he's got 2, maybe 3 left in him where he can play at a pro bowl level and maybe 4 years overall.  And that's pushing it, imo.

Tra's got one more year, tops.  They didn't draft Winston Justice to sit on the bench waiting for Tra to retire.

Tra's contract runs out after 2007.  He's definitely gone after that and maybe sooner if Justice proves he's ready to take over.

Id be surprised if Tra even makes it past next season.   With that back and Justice waiting in the wings.

Walter Jones is a pretty good one, just turned 33.

Lomas Brown was still a quality LT for the Giants at 38.

The only one I can really see is Darwin Walker or maybe(but doubtful) MJG. I remember teams were interested in MJG last season before the deadline, so maybe teams will want him during the draft.
Title: Re: Draft Day Trades
Post by: Munson on March 01, 2007, 01:28:20 AM
The only way they trade AJ is if they plan on spending thier first or 2nd on a TE (doubtful), or plan on grabbing the guy from UD in the 3rd or 4th. But like IGY said, assuming Stallworth is gone, they're going to need a  productive year out of the TE posistion, and I'm not sure I want to depend on a rookie to do it.
Title: Re: Draft Day Trades
Post by: The BIGSTUD on March 01, 2007, 04:41:32 AM
Eric Johnson anyone?

Nevermind, we got Matt Schobel!

wooooooooo!
Title: Re: Draft Day Trades
Post by: Zanshin on March 01, 2007, 08:22:43 AM
I'd be moderately shocked if they moved LJ.  Only reason it wouldn't be a major shock is that it doesn't look promising to resign him at this point; that said, Schobel was underwhelming and it'll talke a rookie at least a year to be comfortable in this offense.  On top of that, the team likes to deploy two TE sets.  They're going to want to give McNabb a security blanket, too.  Anyway, I don't think LJ moves.

LJ Smith is not getting traded.

He's also not getting re-signed during or after this season.  They got what they wanted out of their small school, low salary guy...now they'll let him go.

I'm just saying that to say it.  I can't see into the future.

That sounds right, this way we'll get a full year of drama about how LJ feels disrespected in playing his last year w/o a contract. I predict a tearful LJ interview on Comcast at some point & an underwhelming performance.

He has a point Mussa, there was interest leading up to the deadline last year.  I dont see them doing it, but if they got a first rounder or a great offer who knows.
Title: Re: Draft Day Trades

are you insane what team is gonna give up a first rounder for a guy drafted in the 4th round whos never seen the field

hes not getting traded but if he did it would be for at best a 4th rounder
Title: Re: Draft Day Trades
Post by: Diomedes on March 01, 2007, 12:01:50 PM
At best a 4th?  I'd think at best a fifth, reasoning that since couldn't get on the field all year, why in hell would anyone give an equal pick to what he initially cost?

at best = the most theyd get

meaning in all probability it would be less than a fourth

and i cant beleive we are discussing mjg trade scenarios

I don't think I'm being argumentative there

ill give you the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to a lack of reading comprehension

but if you read it and understood that i was saying best case scenario = a 4th and still proceeded to say that in a never gonna happen hypothetical trade scenario i was one round off then you most certainly were being argumentative...which is a good thing...thats what these boards are for...and actually the more you argue the better i feel about myself because i usually trounce you

No need to fight buddy. It makes no sense to me to draft a guy and then trade him away in exactly one yrs time. MJG is a project who could hopefully take Herremans place in the next few yrs or just develop into a solid backup if Andrews or Herremans get hurt. I wouldn't give him up yet, plus we'd get jack shtein for him/.
