You can count on three things:

1)The Eagles will stack the box and dare Eli to beat them

2)They'll turn up the pressure on him--he's afraid of getting hit

3)They'll have over-the-top coverage on Plaxico

So, Saints then?

history says so...with grossman being unable to complete a pass that leaves the saints as the only quality team in the nfc...the eagles MO is to lose to the good teams in the playoffs after beating garbage like the giants
Title: Re: PLAYOFFS

doesn't history say that the Saints have never won a playoff game?
Title: Re: PLAYOFFS
Post by: ice grillin you on January 02, 2007, 02:40:19 PM
i dont think what the saints did 10 20 or 30 years ago has anything to do with now

im talking history relevant to these current teams...meaing the reid era for the eagles

i think the saints current team having a lot of young players and a rookie coach in their first playoff game is an advantage for the eagles...not sure its a big enough one to win the game tho
Title: Re: PLAYOFFS

The Saints beat the Rams in 2000 and have never hosted a 2nd round game until this year....

Did any of you notice this stroke of management genius from KC's GM?

Quote....Carl Peterson sent the clear message he didn't think the Chiefs would qualify for postseason play when he placed Jason Dunn and Kyle Turley on injured reserve before the Jacksonville game.

<snip>

The Chiefs won't have the services of one of the league's top run-blocking tight ends in a playoff game that likely will hinge on KC's ability to control the clock with Larry Johnson.

<snip>

He placed Dunn, Turley and Rich Scanlon on injured reserve so the Chiefs could elevate practice-squaders Casey Printers, Chris Hannon and William Kershaw to the 53-man roster. By placing Printers, Hannon and Kershaw on the final 53-man roster it protects the Chiefs from an opposing team poaching one of the three players from KC's practice squad this offseason.

Teams are justifiably paranoid about losing their practice-squad players. A couple of years ago, the Chiefs cut guard Ryan Lilja with the hopes they could place him on their practice squad. The Colts scooped up Lilja, and he's been a regular starter in Indy for two years.

The Chiefs said they placed Dunn on IR because doctors won't clear him to play now that they miraculously discovered he has a herniated disk in his back in week 16.

Dunn told me Monday that he's played with the injury for six weeks. When he entered Arrowhead Stadium on Monday for a brief team meeting, Dunn told me he hoped the Chiefs could reverse the decision. When Dunn left Arrowhead, he told me that assistant general manager Denny Thum told him that the Chiefs regretted placing Dunn on IR and they wouldn't have done it if they thought they were going to qualify for the playoffs.

Dunn was visibly disappointed.

"I could play four more games," said Dunn, who admitted he'll undergo surgery this offseason. "I've been playing with it."

Dunn's absence Saturday will place more pressure on Tony Gonzalez and Kris Wilson. Gonzalez will have more blocking responsibility.

Wilson will pull double duty between fullback and tight end. Linemen John Welbourn and Chris Bober will get some time at tight end.

Dunn's absence hamstrings the offensive coaching staff. Dunn has never been a big part of KC's passing game, but he's always been a threat in KC's pass offense. And blocking on the edge against outside linebackers and working up to safeties requires a combination of strength and athletic ability that few offensive linemen possess.

Title: Re: PLAYOFFS

Ty Law returns an int off Manning to the 9 yard line, 2 LJ runs get them to the 1, and then on the third down a guard steps on Trent Green's foot during the snap and he goes down.

Tynes misses the 23 yard field goal. Pathetic offensive performance by the Chiefs so far.

SEA drives to take the lead 13-10.

Miles Austin then responds by returning the kickoff 90-some yards to make it 17-13 Dallas.
Title: Re: PLAYOFFS
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on January 06, 2007, 10:48:17 PM
HOLY CRAP!!

What a crazy play in the Seattle game...

Glenn fumbles on his own 1 and it goes back to the end zone.

Peterson has a shot at it but is sliding out of bounds. Lofa Tatupu comes over while in the air and appears to throw the ball back into the end zone before it hit out of bounds. The Seahawks then recover the ball and the player appears to get both feet in to score a TD.

Obviously being reviewed and they haven't showed all angles yet. Whack ass play.

And this comes after Dallas' defense stopped SEA on 4th and goal. The score is 20-13 Dallas now.
Title: Re: PLAYOFFS
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on January 06, 2007, 10:50:08 PM
Replays show that Taupu's foot was out of bounds before throwing it back in.

Called a safety.

20-15 now.

SEA is throwing the ball well though so them driving to take the lead with 6:30 to go isn't out of the question.
Title: Re: PLAYOFFS
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on January 06, 2007, 10:55:16 PM
And it happens.

30yd TD pass to Jerramy Stevens.

This is after Horsecollar Roy absolutely whiffs on a backfield shot at Alexander on 3rd and 1.

Seattle going for two to make it 23-20.

Bad play. Conversion no good.

21-20 with 4:24 left to play

TO hets his 2nd catch of the game in the 4th quarter. This is with a safety covering him all night (babineaux) because half of SEA's secondary is out. Good job TO! :yay Bum.

Dallas now driving!!

This is a good game.

2:00 to go and DAL is on the SEA 10yd line. The Cowboys are going to win this. If they don't its a choke job.

Take this for whats it's worth:

I know a guy who went to high school with Matt Walsh, who played basketball at Florida for 4 years. According to him, Rex Grossman is a big coke head. Now how many times do you hear something like this? But, when the Bears were on MNF a few weeks ago and someone was introducing the players, he called Grossman: Rex "8-Ball" Grossman. And there's only one thing 8 Ball can mean.

Colts doing a great job of running out the clock.  The Ravens god-defense is failing to get the ball back.

They kept Indy from the endzone despite their own offense sucking up the place and scoring 3 points. Sounds rather godlike to me.

Not trying to denigrate the defense, just giving kudos to the Colts offense for sustaining a clock-eating drive to seal a close game.

I don't know who was calling the plays on the second-to-last drive for the Bolts but he should definitely be fired.

1st play:  Tomlinson run for six. 2nd & 4.

2nd play: Incomplete pass

3rd play: Incomplete pass

4th play: Punt.

Tomlinson is the best player in the NFL, yet rather than giving him a chance to get rolling and knock some time off the clock, they rely on Philip Rivers' arm in that situation.

Puzzling isn't the word for it.  STUPID is.  If I was a Chargers fan, I'd be screaming for Marty's ass right now.  Another colossal playoff meltdown for that poor bastich.

In fact, here's more "who the F cares?!" trivia, this time from ESPN:

This is the Bears' fourth NFC Championship appearance in the Super Bowl era, and in the previous three, the winner of that game also won the Super Bowl.

Quote[Brady] left behind some frustrated Chargers, including Tomlinson, who went after an unidentified Patriots player when the game ended. Tomlinson ran for 123 yards and two scores, and caught two passes for 64 yards.

Tomlinson said he was upset that some Patriots were dancing on the Chargers logo at midfield after they had silenced the record crowd of 68,810 at Qualcomm Stadium and wrecked the Chargers' season, which included an NFL-best 14-2 record and 8-0 home mark in the regular season.

"I would never react in that way. I was very upset," Tomlinson said. "When you go to the middle of our field and start doing the dance Shawne Merriman is known for, that is disrespectful. They showed no class and maybe that comes from the head coach."

Here are my horribly uneducated guesses for today's games:

Here's my guesses:

Patriots vs. Colts

I would probably be divorced if I picked against the Patriots.  The good news for the Colts is that their run defense decided to show up for the playoffs.  The bad news is the Peyton Manning still hasn't - the Colts have not won because of Manning, but because the defense has been spectuacular. If it's a close game at the end, the opposing quaterback is not Steve McNair or Trent Green, but Tom Brady.

Patriots 24, Colts 21

Saints vs. Bears

Chicago hasn't been a good team since losing their first game.  The defense has been spotty, and the offense under Grossman has been inconsistent at best.  The Saints, on the other hand, are the most complete team in the NFC.  Their defense, while not spectacular, is solid, and held Brian Westbrook at bay other than the one long TD run last week.  The offense is explosive, and can beat a team with both the run and the pass.  I believe the Saints will be marching into the Super Bowl.

Saints 27, Bears 17

I think that if they called it down, that call would have stood as well.  It bobbled just enough to make it not clear enough to overturn a call that could get him killed in Chicago.  >:D

Saw this coming all week. The Bears are just a better team and were the #1 seed for the reason. The fact of the matter is the Saints simply aren't that good. The only reason they beat the Eagles is because the Eagles weren't that good either. The Eagles took advantage of a weak NFC. The Saints sorta got exposed today against a real defense. It just makes you wonder how far the Eagles would've got this year if we actually had a defense.

oh and HFA is insanely important. I remember after we lost 3 straight NFCCG games, some people actually thought we might be better off on the road.

Eight days after FOX showed a replay of a crowd reaction including a female Saints fans with a shirt that proclaimed "F--K DA EAGLES" (without the dashes), FOX's obsession with shots of the crowd has resulted in another image that on one hand we find troubling, but on the other hand funny as sh-t.

Thanks to the reader who sent us an image of the screen, which contained this happy chap as FOX cameras panned the stands in the third quarter.

I want to see Viniterari knock the Pats out of the Super Bowl. Talk about a guy that gets no credit. Even though Brady played well, Vinny won 2 out of their 3 Super Bowls, and arguably beat the Eagles by making a FG in the Super Bowl which provided the separation they needed to win the game.

Peyton Manning = No Leadership.

The close ups of his face are priceless. The guy wants no part in leading his team to victory. He seems lost, doesn't take control of games, shows no fire or command of the huddle. No wonder the team doesn't respond.

I'd argue that Garcia is a better leader than Manning is/was. Both Sheli and Peyton have this confused/why me?/why do you expect me to do something? look on their faces at crucial times.

The overall key to the game was the Colts establishing a running game. Manning still has one more game to go, but even if we wins a Superbowl he still isn't on Brady's level, but enough of the Captain Obvious. The two plays that cost the Pats the game:  Offense PI on Troy Brown and the roughing the passer the Pats got on Manning late. Those killed the Pats.

I was only semi-conscious at the end of the game due to cold medicine, so I didn't talk to my wife until this morning, even though I knew the Colts had won.

Her response:  "I wanted the Patriots to win, of course, but I'm happy for Manning to finally get into the Super Bowl."

Even at halftime, she was mentioning about hoping that the Colts would score to at least make a game of it.

If that had been the Eagles choking a big halftime lead in the NFCCG, we'd be needing a new television.  Or a new remote, at least.

Of course, maybe I'd be more generous if it was the Eagles winning three Super Bowls in the last five years.  But I doubt it.
