Bust out the 2004 NFCCG tape and have Johnson dial up the same gameplan. Obviously they don't have Kearse or Burgess to contain Vick, but Juqua Thomas will play a big part in helping this time I would guess. He's got speed so he can do what Kearse did in that game and Cole can do what Burgess did.

Their receivers are terrible. They can be singled up. Hood and Brown need to keep their hands in check though. Double Crumpler.

Juqua left his feet last week and gave Romo an extra few seconds to toss the TD to Owens. He cant be doing that shtein against Vick.

Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on December 27, 2006, 09:11:00 AM
Yeah. He had a clean shot at him on that 4th down conversion to Crayton too. Use his speed to contain Vick. Let Killa Cole decapitate Vick.

i know the defense has played better the past few weeks, but they might have trouble this week, the Falcons style of running is successful against the Eagles problems on defense.

but when you only put up 3 points at home against a team that is done, you've clearly packed it in, so they should win this one rather easily.

I think this is the first time in weeks we've felt like the Eagles are the supperior team and should win.

That combined with the fact that I'm going to the game means we'll probably lose. :(

If they play like they've been playing the last few weeks, they should dominate. When a team blows its load in a game and still loses, like the Falcons did against the Cowboys, it's usually hard to overcome that feeling. Eagles hopefully win, secure the 3rd seed, and get a matchup against ______ in the first round.

I hope its the Packers.
Title: Re: Falcons Talk

What possibly makes this game even more winnable is the fact that by the time the game even starts, the Falcons will already know that they're out of it.  They not only need the Giants to lose, but the Packers, Rams and Panthers to lose.  If they're already out...with the lack of heart that the Falcons have... they'll roll right over.

Eagles - 30
Falcons - 16

Yeah I agree, especially since it IS the Facolns. But a lot of times, teams like that who get knocked out go out and play mad, and LOVE to be the spolier to a playoff team.

I'd be worried about that, but I'm not worrried as much because it's the Falcons.
Title: Re: Falcons Talk
Post by: Feva on December 27, 2006, 03:08:37 PM
My point exactly... trust me, the Falcons are much more likely to crawl up into a ball and sulk in that situation than one to try to go out on top or at least on a positive note.  Hell... the way it seems now, they're all just waiting for their lame duck coach to get the axe so they can find another scapegoat.

I think if the Giants win they are in. But I heard a lot of convoluted stuff about strength of victory or some BS category where the Packers might be in a position to secure a playoff spot if they beat the Bears. Essentially, if the Giants win and the Packers win it comes down to strength of victory (sounds like the BCS).

I want the Giants again.  They whipped their asses two weeks ago, and I'm confident they could do it again.  Of all the possibilities, none of them scare me except the Rams.  Birds would need to score a whole lot of points to beat the Rams (luckily, their defense sucks).

You always have to worry about a team that has nothing to play for but to be the spoiler.  This is a trap game, but really when you look at the standings what would it take for the Eagles to "drop" to the fourth seed???

If we stay in the third seed, win our first playoff game we'd play in New Orleans.  If we drop to the fourth seed, win our first playoff game we'd play in Chicago.

Doors open, call my naive, or even stupid but I'd rather play in Chicago than New Orleans who appear to be the far superior team.

Thoughts?

QuoteMORE WEIRDNESS FROM MICHAEL VICK

Michael Vick continues to prove that, in reality, he's a glorified tailback with a strong throwing arm and marginal accuracy.

A quarterback he isn't, in any sense of the word.  First and foremost, quarterbacks are leaders.  We've presented in the past evidence to support our belief that Vick isn't.  Most recently, he was wearing a groove in his back after setting the single-season quarterback rushing record in a defeat that dealt a crushing blow to his team's playoff prospects.

In a Wednesday conference call with Philadelphia reporters, Vick provided even more proof to support the conclusion that he's not a leader by taking steps to insulate himself from any blame for the team's 7-8 record.

"I rushed for [over] 1,000 yards this year," Vick said.  "I threw a career-high 19 touchdowns, still one game to go.  I've accomplished a lot of things.  I think I've played consistently week in and week out.  I can't say what more I could've done.  What I can say is that I feel good about what I've accomplished this season."

So what went wrong for the team this year?

"I don't know.  I can't really say," said Vick.  "That's for you guys to go watch the film and see what really went wrong. Stat-wise, everything looks good.  It looks gravy.  I think we had a good year, but at the same time something didn't go right.  That's the question that needs to be answered.

"Anytime you have over 3,000 yards of total offense in a season as a player, I think you should be in the winning bracket in the wins and loss column.  You should have way more wins than you have losses."

Another account of the conference call includes an admission from Vick that he recalls little about the Falcons last visit to Philly, for the 2004 NFC Championship Game, other than the fact that it was cold and that he "wished he had taken it more seriously."

He also said that one of his priorities for the New Year's Eve game in Philly is to ensure that the Falcons get back to Atlanta before midnight.

Nice.  Hey, Falcons fans, you and the "real" media created this monster.  Now that he's crapping all over the furniture, what are you gonna do about it?

I'm hoping for the Eagles to build a substantial lead in the first half so Westbrook doesn't have to carry the load this game and can rest for next week's matchup. He deserves some sort of break for being one of the major catalysts on this offense the past 5 weeks and also considering he's been particularly banged up most of the year as well.

Title: Re: Falcons Talk
Post by: Eaglez on December 28, 2006, 11:10:05 PM
I don't think the starters will sit out but they will probably see their snaps reduced and most of them will probably sit by the 2nd half.

However, I doubt Detroit will win. Plus, I think I'd rather see the 1st team come in and continue to display their continuity going into the playoffs. Then, once they displayed that and built a lead, then they can rest.

Yesterday, for example, they kept his practice reps the same even though Westbrook was absent with an illness.

"Reno (Mahe) just took the position where Westbrook used to be and went with the flow," Buckhalter said. "There really wasn't much of a drop-off."   :sly

QuoteLes Bowen | The pick

OBVIOUSLY, the Eagles still want to win their

division and host a first-round playoff game, instead of going on the road. What we don't know until they play is exactly how much this means to a slightly banged-up team that clinched a playoff berth Monday in Dallas. Remember, the last time the Birds beat the Cowboys, they came down from the high with a thud,

losing three in a row and five of six.

If the Falcons weren't busy getting their coach fired and worrying about getting back to Atlanta by midnight on New Year's Eve (as Michael Vick said of the latter in a conference call this week with Philadelphia-area reporters), this would really loom as a "trap" game.   :o   It still could turn out that way, but it shouldn't. If the Eagles who played the Giants and the Cowboys the past 2 weeks show up Sunday, the Falcons don't have much chance. This is an Atlanta team that has lost six of its last eight, although the Falcons are 4-3 on the road this season.

Atlanta is the NFL's No. 1 rushing team, but Vick's 1,022 yards are propping up that stat. Warrick Dunn's last 100-yard game came Oct. 15, against the Giants. And there's the fact the Falcons could be eliminated from

playoff contention by the time they take the field.

Prediction:

Eagles 30, Falcons 21

Trap game?   :-D

Yeah, since those Tampa Bay and Tennessee games were automatic Ws and all....

Three huge division road wins, a trip to the playoffs already locked up, and the players possibly thinking about celebrating later that night....ya never know....

I just thought the term itself was funny, that's all, Ed.

:paranoid

You know it.

Matter of fact... we beat Atlanta... the Eagles are guaranteed to be back in New Orleans next year, too.  :yay

Your curious hatred of the term is indeed comical, IGY.    :yay

Ha!  That's my buddy and our Sports Director Gil Tyree interviewing Ike in that clip.  He's an Eagles fan too.  Notice our mic flag in the bottom right in the very beginning.

We also just taped a talkback yesterday with Vai that's supposed to air the day of the game.

Feva, are you directly in the ATL or outside the city.  I recently took a business trip down there to Kennesaw,Ga

I live in Lawrenceville, GA... which is outside the city, but I work in Midtown... which is in the city.

Lawrenceville is in the NE part of Metro Atlanta and Kennesaw is in the NW part.

Next time you're down this way... lemme know.  We'll throw back a few.

I'd take Ike back in a heartbeat. He's not the answer to our OLB woes, but his special teams play and his ability to cover in passing down situations is vital. I would imagine that the Eagles FO would take him back as well.

Ike = one of my all time favorites

JR Reed is on the Falcons now too. He wears #40.

Is Ike set to make a high base salary next year? Maybe when the Falcons attempt to clean house this off-season (i.e. get rid of Mora) they'll let some quality go and release Ike for salary purposes. It's a pipedream but I wouldn't mind getting guys like Ike back in the locker room and putting them in the roles that they have been successful in.
