Title: Nice feel-good piece on Jeremy Bloom
Post by: Susquehanna Birder on December 14, 2006, 08:53:22 AM
On ESPN.com (http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/columns/story?id=2695447)

Much more uplifting than the "cover" story on Chad Greenway (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2691458)

That was a good read.  He's making every effort to get onto the field next year, and he's already an upgrade over Reno at both PR and KR.

Greenway tore his knee to shreds trying to bust a wedge open on a kickoff in a preseason game?

Super use of a #1 draft pick you just invested millions of dollars in.  Super!   :yay

If that's true, then why isn't he on the field??

is that different than 'because he's not a football player'??

QuoteOn days when his Philadelphia Eagles teammates are practicing outside, Bloom retreats into "the bubble," the team's indoor training facility. He straps a digital recorder around his arm, puts headphones on, and listens to his own voice, reading an entry from the Eagles' playbook. Then, he runs a wide receiver's route, alone. He envisions the big bodies hurtling around him and visualizes the ball settling into his hands. "I think about what my job is on the play," he said.

Glad to hear he envisions things and all.  That's nice.

Nice read. It'll be nice having him as a PR/KR next year.

I hope he doesn't take up fence jumping to replace the rush of skiing.

That's good he's working so hard, but the picture in the article isn't too flattering. I'd like to see him catch passes with his hands, not his chest.

Unless its a KR or PR, but he seems pretty low for it to be one of those.

i think he has a shot to be a good kpr but id be surprised to see him ever contribute at wr...in fact if he turns out to be a valuable return man i wouldnt even try him at wr cause he will get broken up

I think Bloom could possibly be a Tim Dwight type player. Be a KR/PR specialist but maybe have a few big plays on the offensive side of the ball every once in a while.

I can agree with that.

Matter of fact... I remember one game (maybe the Titans) where Reno got a great hole on a kickoff return and he returned it to midfield.  I couldn't help but think how if that was Bloom with that same hole... it would have been 6.

If Reno couldn't take it the distance on that return, it just simply can't be done.

You're right.  I should kill myself for doubting the greatness of Reno Mahe... if only for a second.

I can't believe this thread has made it this long without someone having fun with Jeremy Bloom, feel-good, and piece in the title.

I really hope he can prove some worth next year. It'd be nice to have someone returning kicks where I can actually have hope he might break a TD or two.
