Title: Garthia played with balls last night
Post by: hbionic on December 05, 2006, 05:40:08 AM
He also had a hell of a football game.

That guys looked like a shaky little girl for alot of parts of the game. The other parts, he looked like a man. A real man. Something most of the Eagles should respect and look up to and use for inspiration.

Everyone made plays...but chop the head off and the rest of the body goes...Garthia didn't let them down...he came back after the hit and kept playing and he hung in there. It was a gutsy performance, nice numbers..but he lead on the field last night and it was refreshing to see that. I haven't felt so good over a win in a long, long time. Everyone made plays but last night's MVP has to be Garthia...with Lito and Stallworth a close second.

The little bitch on the field was Delhomme. I've never seen a man cry so much. I'm glad the football gods rewarded guts last night. Garcia had guts and played with guts and heart...god damnit it was awesome!

Team Garthia approves this message.

The commentators kept saying that the rest of the offense actually said they are playing harder now because they just expected McNabb to make plays. If I was McNabb, as soon as my knee got healthy, I'd go kick all those fargers in the jimmy.

I wish I was McNabb right now too, what with all of his money and bed rest...

I give Garcia credit.  He had a good game.  If he can sustain this kind of performance, the team could sneak into the playoffs to the tune of a road wild-card game and first round exit.  Yay.

I understand that it's cool to be bitter and pessimistic on this board and all, but with the way the NFC is right now, anyone who makes the playoffs has a shot at going to the Super Bowl.

I'll take a first round exit in the playoffs over tanking the season and moving up 5 spot in the draft.

If this team makes the playoffs even though the team sucks and has no chance of winning a title it only extends Andy Reid's employment. I'm not cool with that. I want this team to do well, but they clearly aren't going to do well enough to get excited about and I really want Reid to be gone. Quickly.

Garcia played great lastnight against a great defense. I was sort of disappointed (but not surprised) our fans were calling for A.J. when he was injured, I can see if he was stinking the joint up, but he was playing well, not turning the ball over, taking what the D gave him, and took a couple brutal shots and got right back up. For all the gay talk he's a pretty tough guy.

All I can say about Garcia last night is that he was rock hard ball-player who helped the lads pound the ball into the red zone over and over and over.

He really brought the lumber.

All it takes is a few key injuries here and there to other NFC teams for us to contend. Lets cross our fingers.

This is some of what was on the AP Wire:

"A three-time Pro Bowl quarterback when he was guiding San Francisco to playoff berths, Garcia found out Monday night just how important he is to the Philadelphia Eagles - as important as Donovan McNabb.
Garcia played like vintage McNabb in leading the Eagles past the Carolina Panthers 27-24. And if the 36-year-old veteran guides them into the playoffs - at 6-6 they are tied for the NFC wild-card spots - Garcia just might make Philadelphia forget about ol' Donovan, at least for a bit.
After Garcia struggled early, he was nearly unstoppable, using his arm and his legs to offset Carolina's dangerous pass rush. "  "Vintage McNabb" HA!

I say he did well...  He did not throw any INTs and got the yards and 3 TDs...  But this is the second game, that he played for the Eagles and had great field position and couldn't do anything.  Not even an FG after starting at their own 40 several times.   That is why the Panthers had a chance to come down and score to win the game.  We owe this one to Jake Delhomme.  THANKS JAKE!

I will take it.  When I was watching the Broncos Sunday Night, somebody said that people were saying "if the Eagles were smart, they would pick up Jake Plummer, a good veteran"  Man I hope this ain't true.  After watching Gathia last night.  JEFF GARCIA IS JAKE PLUMMER!

This is what I have to say about Garcia. He is a better QB than AJ. He has no future. He will not win a championship. He will not step in to #5's shoes and do what he does. He is basically cooked and took advantage of a defense that gave him ZERO credit for the ability to throw the ball down the field.

But he's a better all aroudn QB than AJ. So what does that mean? It means that right now he gives this team a better chance to win. Which, the compulsive, selfish, gimme-everything-I-want-right-now-or-lick-my-taint side of me likes. But the truth is that there is no way for him to help this team. He can get them to an 8-8 record, which disgustingly might get them to the playoffs, but what else can he do? Beyond this season he's worthless to the Eagles. And beyond this season is where we should realistically be looking.

Realism is not popular among sports fans. There are stories and legends about the exciting feats of heart and determination that never-say-die players/fans have inspired. But come on. This isn't Rudy. This team is seriously flawed. Not in terms of talent, but in terms of heart. In terms of hard work and guts and heart. It's flawed from the top down, and for every counterfeit win that this team gets, it only prolongs the false feeling that they can stay this course. This team can not stay this course. And if it does it will be in danger of digging itself into a pit it will never be able to dig its way out of.

In short; it's cool that Garcia won the game for the Eagles last night, but in the long run it hurts more than it helps.

Quote

Rouse This...
How dare they compare Jeff Garcia to Donavan McNabb.  McNabb throws balls into the ground, interceptons, long thrilling TDs, and his scrambling makes all the Highlights.  Garica can't hardly see above the Offense or Defensive Lines and runs around like a chicken with his head cut off.

Because he can't see is why he throws the ball 10 yards away from anything.  Garcia did throw some dangerous passes. The only thing different between him and Jake Plummer is that Jake closes his eyes when he can't see and actually gets intercepted.  Both of them throw well when they roll out.  Both of them are winning quarterbacks that get booed.  Hopefully, Garcia seems to have a better attitude and that may give him an edge.

Also, I was wrong.  It looks like most of the Eagles drives started aroud their own 27 last night.  I guess it was the drives to mid-field that died had me confused.

I think head coaches are making a mistake by changing QBs in the middle of the season and trying to play conservative to ease them in.  They might as well just go for broke at this point.

I don't feel like there was anything amazing about this game or Garcia's play.  The Eagles got lucky that Delhomme is losing his mind...  Now if Garcia actually wins all of these last games and wins a Playoff Game, them I will be back to gladfully eat crow.

FWIW... I was talking with an Eagles fan on another board who was at the game.  He says that the fans weren't booing Garcia, but the fact that Kris Jenkins wasn't flagged for the hit on Garcia when he fell on top of him.  He said they showed the replay on the scoreboard and people were reacting (booing) to that.  Of course... the Leg and Kornheiser ran with that and said that the fans were booing Garcia for not staying injured.

Again... FWIW.

I ain't buying it.

Now maybe some were booing no flag on the play.

But AJ is a cult hero in this town. His name was chanted when the Eagles lost to the Pats in week 2 of 2003. Remember when McNabb got killed by Bruschi at the end and then got up? They booed because he was getting up. That was the game when someone launched a water bottle at his head as he ran off the field into the tunnel.

You hear the talk radio callers continuously bring his name up. Even when he was in MIA and SD you'd hear people say how much better he is than McNabb.

The majority of the people there were booing the fact that he got up. You can hear them chanting AJ as he is warming up. He then takes about 10 steps out onto the field and the crowd cheers. He goes back and they boo.

there is no doubt in my mind that the fans were cheering when garcia went down. feeley took off his jacket and stepped on the field, then the cheering started to get louder.

when garcia got up...the booing started.

Not sure what thread to put this in but here goes from Reuben Frank:

Contract for Garcia?

Reid — who serves as director of football operations in addition to head coach — doesn't like talking about contracts, but he did concede that at some point the Eagles will try to re-sign Jeff Garcia, who is due to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

"I'm sure at some point we'll address that," he said.

I'm thinking they should just go with Feeley next year and see what Omar Jacobs can do in training camp.

Garcia had a great game, and showed me that he still has some fumes in the tank. He played better than I thought him capable of. But he didn't win the game for the Eagles. Delhome served that win up on a silver platter. Carolina gave us that win. They had it won and Delhome had a idiot attack and threw a wounded duck up for the int. Why he threw that pass is  beyond me.

Also, if the Eagles D can't stop teams from scoring in the second half/fourth quarter, then we'll be lucky to beat the taterskins, much less Atlanta or Dallas.

Delhomme sucks, and the D still has to play better, but Lito's INT wasn't exactly 'served up on a silver platter'. It was a pretty good, highlight reel INT.

Fox doesn't call plays, Dan Henning does. And I believe that was a "check with me" route. That's why we saw Delhomme pat his ass to signal Keyshawn to run a fade.

its on the head coach...fox has final say in terms of how low % they want the call to be...all they needed was a fg to go into ot...you want to minimize the chances of an int there so theres absolutely no way they should be running a fade route

if delhomme checked to it then its on him for being an idiot and the coach for allowing him to call his own play there

I forget if the Panthers had any timeouts left but with like 33 seconds left on the clock and the ball on the 7 yd line, I'm surprised they didn't try running the ball against the softest run d in the league.......or at least run play action.  That was as dumb a call as Sherman opting to punt on 4th and 1 in the playoffs a few years ago after Ahman Green had been running all over the place.
Title: Re: Garthia played with balls last night
Post by: ice grillin you on December 07, 2006, 07:08:14 AM
even with no timeouts you can run the ball there....its not like the guy could have busted off a 30 yarder and made it so you couldnt get to the line and spike the ball

thats a play where you run it or look for a quick hook route to the te or an in route to a wr and if they are clearly there you throw it out of the end zone and take your chances in ot....you dont throw a fade route up for grabs

In fairness to Fox... that fade is a play that worked for them twice earlier in the game.

The first one was to Keyshawn over Lito... only Keyshawn couldn't get his feet down in bounds.

The second was the TD before the half.

They had success with the play earlier... so you can't totally blame them for trying again.

That's one of those things where you could say they went to the well one time too many.  Lito recognized the route and bumped Johnson off of it.

But if I were a Panthers fan, I wouldn't be pissed for that reason.  I'd be pissed simply because there were timeouts left which meant they could have tried running, which was quite successful all game or they could have burned a time out and come up with a plan.

Yeah, hindsight is a bitch. But with 2 timeouts left on the 6 yard line you would think at least one run play would be called.

Who cares. Should be fun to see how Wienke plays.
