Once again we watch this defense turn in a piss poor effort. They allowed the Saints to march it down the field and they could not get a stop and it cost them a game. They allowed Tampa to go down and score with a time consuming drive. And tonight they continued their run stopping woes by allowing a rookie to run all over them with basically 4 running plays being called all night long.
Stopping the run is an attitude and this defense has none. Like I said last week, in 2002 when they lost McNabb and went on a run the defense won those games. But this time it is different. Not offensively, but defensively. This defense cannot stop ANYONE.
The Colts ran 6+ minutes off the clock with THIRTEEN STRAIGHT running plays and scored after they cut it to 31-21.
Something has to change.
The sad thing about the NFC is this 5-6 team is still in the wild card hunt. But this defense cannot stop anyone.
3 out of the last 4 games they have allowed 200 yard rushing games. THREE OUT OF THE LAST FOUR!
Disgusting.
they should take a DT with their 1st round pick!
If Reid doesn't go next year Jim Johnson better go. There better be a major coaching change on this team next year or I'm going to spontaneously combust. :boom
don't you know, it's all because Donovan got hurt.
the New Orleans game was a result of them thinking that Donovan might get hurt in the future.
They can't tackle. If any of them knew how to wrap up or even just square up for a hit they would immediately improve. Instead they over persue, take awful angles and try to arm tackle. Then Addai scores 4 times.

the Colts basically have 2 running plays...they stretch out and cut back, left and right. and each time everyone over persued and the running back cut back for more yards. you would think these morons would notice the pattern after awhile.

You'd think so. You'd think that the goddamn coaches and players would say "Yo, they are banging us on these cutback lanes. Stop overpursuing to the sideline and close up the cutback lanes."
Nope. Not this team.

You say it before ever watching them play though. Though it is a really bad sign that Gocong went on IR for a "stinger".
I'm tempted to call into Trotters radio show tomorrow night and ask him how he likes his new #63 Colts tattoo on his chest.
Jeff Saturday was all over him tonight. Watching him get blocked by that guy who should be driving an 18-wheeler was ridiculous. He has #63 imprinted on his farging chest.

no i saw mccoy in college on film and in camp
and more importantly i knew his background and skill set
ill never forget it last year in camp jj said that he was looking good or something to that effect and everyone peed themselves and said mccoy was the great thing because jj wouldnt say it if it wasnt true...it was sickening
Matt McCoy is the new Mark Simoneau. And to think we thought we traded him to the Saints.

In order to tackle you need to be in the vicinity of the person to whom you are planning on tackling. The Eagles weren't even close to Addai all night. He practically walked in the end zone on every play.
Seriously, Addai was barely touched tonight. Those are probably the 4 easiest touchdowns he will ever get in his career. It was pathetic. I think on all 4 of his TD runs he barely had to do anything. He just cut the corner and he was untouched.
Sheldon Brown is a nice warm pile of shtein too. He can't tackle, he's always out of position, and he just looks like a plain fool out there. I don't know what happened to him, but he just plain blows. I'm thinking about relegating him to Mike Lewis status.

OK, thanks for clearing that up, Phreak.
they threw years and money at 3 guys who suck: patterson, bunkley and walker.
the refuse to give two shteins about the linebackers: mccoy, barber, jones are all garbage. trotter is mediocre/average. he cant help.
the pass rusher is non existent: cole, thomas, howard, whoever. no one sniffed manning.
what a joke. i really dont understand how its come to this.

sheldon brown is not supposed to be in position to tackle hes supposed to be in position to cover his man...which he way more often than not does at a high level....he is so far down the list of things to bitch about its laughable that you would call him out...stop posting

Sims, has actually played some decent ball down there from what I have seen. Must be because they have some real coaches.

i wont blame the pass rush at all for tonight...no pressure came from the fact that they either ran the ball or threw short to med routes to the te...it wasnt as if manning was taking 5-7 step drops and looking down field...plus in general the guy is incredibly hard to sack with the way he gets rid of the ball

He was out of position all night, doofus. On Addai's 2nd touchdown run he practically quit on the play when they ran to his side.
If the run comes his way he needs to make a tackle. I'm not going to excuse him for being soft in the run game, especially when the Colts just ran to the outside all game, a lot of the time right at him. He played like shtein this week, and you making excuses for him shows that you are a mental midget.
Eat your own excrement, IGY.
OMG a cornerback missed a tackle!!!
cut em
JJ actually had Sheldon Brown playing at the line of scrimmage, HA!
It doesn't matter if you have Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, Champ Bailey, and Rashean Mathis back there if your front seven sucks they will too.
Trotter sucks now. Hopefully we can move on after this season with a new MLB and bring in a veteran BIG DT. I still think Bunkley when given playing time and maturing will be a very good player, but he is the only one that could possibly be good out of this bunch of bums. Remake the entire front 7.
You know the defense sucks when they have to play in the nickel on 1st and 10. That's why Brown was being asked to make tackles on running plays. Way to play to the strengths of your D, guys.
My take on Sheldon is that his technique and positioning is usually excellent, but he simply doesn't have the top level of size and/or athleticism to clamp down on the best receivers. It's very rare to see him blow a coverage, but it's much less rare to see him get beat. And yes, there is a difference.
Sheldon is low on the list of problems this defense has. The biggest problem is Jim Johnson. Sorry I can only speak the truth. :poison
Having players go MIA is also not so good :boom
Eagles defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley missed the team's flight to Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon and then was listed as inactive for last night's game with the Colts.
-- Philadelphia Inquirer
holy shtein, this is the first i'm hearing of that!
but...
Bunkley looks like the Thing from the Fantastic Four movie.
Bunkley is a beast. He had the most reps ever at the most weight ever during the combine.

Exactly. He hasn't been spectacular in the short to intermediate routes, but it seems that he always has great coverage deep and the receiver makes some ridiculous play. He's been really unlucky this year.
Spads article the night before the opener:
Quote"The Eagles are a Super Bowl-caliber team. They know it. You should, too.
This 53-man roster is deep and talented, an interesting blend of youth and experience. There is Donovan McNabb heading an offense that has weapons galore -- the receiving game offers speed in Donté Stallworth, Reggie Brown, Greg Lewis and Brian Westbrook, great matchup possibilities with L.J. Smith and Matt Schobel and size in Hank Baskett and Jason Avant. The running game will be done behind a massive offensive line with Westbrook and, I suspect, Correll Buckhalter heading the charge.
DE Darren Howard is part of an excellent defensive line
It's a really good group, and McNabb has himself an arsenal to work with. The Eagles will go after Houston wherever the coaching staff thinks the matchups are best -- it could be a run-oriented attack and it could lean more toward the air game. The offense, the coaches believe, has the ability to be multi-pronged.
What has championship written all over it is the defense. Can you remember a line that went 10 deep, that had as much power as this group has, that can put legitimately outstanding pass rushers on the field all at once (Jevon Kearse, Darren Howard, Trent Cole)?
Tremendous.
Overlooked in this preseason was the perfect job turned in by placekicker David Akers, a booming effort from Dirk Johnson and coverage units that were outstanding.
There are questions to be answered, as there are with any teams. The Eagles must show balance on the ground. They must have several key youngsters -- among them, Cole, Matt McCoy, Todd Herremans and Brown -- step up to the challenge that awaits. They must have a return game on special teams that scares the daylights out of the opposition.
We'll learn all about that as the weeks progress.
But right now, from this perspective, the Eagles are absolutely contenders for the championship. That is the goal here. That should be your expectations. Anything less would be a disappointment.
So the stakes are high and the mood is terrific. The chemistry and kindship on the team throughout the summer worked, and it will only get better as Sunday draws close.
There is nothing to report on a late Sunday night in Philadelphia. Nothing other than the regular season approaches, and the time is right to get ready for a great Eagles season. It's that time of the year, and you should feel very, very good about your favorite football team. "
Spads should be the first to be fired.

the Eagles need receivers who block like Reggie Wayne.
That's a nice hold he's got of Considine, but that is incredibly accurate the Eagles could use a receiver that catches like Wayne.
Rod Hood made the most pathetic tackle yesterday, but I'm not sure if it was on that play. More proof the team has quit. Hood usually plays hard.
Quiting on team in contract year=smurt
burrell should play safety for the birds. sure fire way to assure nothing is ever caught near him
Rod Hood grabbed at the ankle of Addai on the first tackle and make a pitiful attempt. After he "broke" Hood's "tackle", he was home free.
Sheldon used to light people up, and I thought he was one of the better tacklers in the NFL at the CB position. However, I think his play has dropped off noticeably over the past few weeks, which is amplified by him talking about how the team needs to re-focus and take everything 'one game at a time'.
Eh. Who cares.

True. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
Exactly. :-\
I can't remember any Eagles D playing like this. Where is the intimidation? Where is the fear? If it keeps going like this we should just suit Murph up and let him play. At least he knows the meaning of hard work and preparation
Are you blind? They're plenty intimidated and afraid.
I watched the game on NFL replay last night, again.
Sean Considine can't play. He is maybe the worst tackler in the NFL. He hurts them more in the run game than Lewis hurts them in the pass game. At least in the pass game, you can protect Lewis a little bit.
Also, Trent Cole should not be starting, he plays too many snaps. He needs to be a pass rushing specialist only.
