Haynesworth supsension over, will rejoin team on Wednesday. (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2660600)
David Givens is out for the season with a torn ACL. This should be an easy win but one thing this season has taught me is to not take any team or game for granted - regardless of the lead.
QuoteNext Up: Titans Visit Lincoln Financial Field
The Eagles (5-4) will look to make it two in a row on Sunday when the Tennessee Titans (2-7) make their first visit to Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Led by first-round pick Vince Young at quarterback, Tennessee is coming off a one-point loss to Baltimore. Philadelphia, meanwhile, is looking to build on its 27-3 win over Washington.
The game marks a homecoming of sorts for Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, who was an assistant coach with the Eagles from 1986-90.
The Eagles have won six of the eight games in the series, although the two defeats represent the results of the last two meetings between the clubs.
Four of Tennessee's losses this season have come by seven points or less.
Read below for more on the game:
The Eagles On Defense
The Titans offense is one that is still finding its identity. The centerpiece is rookie quarterback Vince Young, the hero of Texas' 2006 national championship. Young, the No. 3 pick in April's NFL draft, took over the starting quarterback duties in week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Best known in college as a dual threat, Young has showed the ability to make plays with his arm and legs. He has completed just over 46 percent of his passes, with five touchdowns and eight interceptions. He's also been sacked nine times. When he tucks the ball and runs, Young is averaging 4.8 yards a carry. All told, he has 176 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 37 attempts.
Veteran Travis Henry shoulders the bulk of the Titans' ground attack, averaging 4 yards a carry.
Mobile quarterbacks like Jacksonville's David Garrard and Tampa Bay's Bruce Gradkowski caused some problems for Jim Johnson's unit earlier this season. That said, the Eagles will have to tighten up and stuff the gaps and make sure Young and Co. don't hurt them on the ground.
At the receiver position, free agent David Givens has been slowed by injuries, leaving Drew Bennett as the leader of a young receiving corps.
Because Young is a rookie quarterback and the offensive line is still developing, the Titan may not air it out as much; but they will take their shots at times.
The Eagles On Offense
The Titans defense has long been led by linebacker Keith Bulluck, a tackling machine for seven seasons and he will likely draw the assignment of containing multi-purpose back Brian Westbrook.
Overall, Tennessee's defense lacks continuity. The group held the explosive Colts to only 14 points on Oct. 8, although it's the type of defense Donovan McNabb might be able to feast on.
The Titans lack a steady pass rush, and the suspension of Albert Haynesworth hasn't helped. McNabb thrives when he has time, and he should have it this weekend. The Titans aren't particularly deep in the secondary either, although veteran Chris Hope and former first-round pick Pacman Jones have played well at times. There might be some mismatches when the Eagles utilize three and four-receiver sets.
Key Matchups
Titans LDE Kyle Vanden Bosch vs. Eagles ORT Jon Runyan: Vanden Bosch emerged onto the national scene last season with 12.5 sacks after spending his first four NFL seasons with Arizona.
Vanden Bosch is 278 pounds, which makes him stronger than most pass rushers. He's not an explosive end, instead effective by outthinking and outworking opposing linemen. That's hard to do with a veteran like Runyan.
Titans RLB Keith Bulluck vs. Eagles RB Brian Westbrook: In a classic matchup of running back vs. linebacker, the dynamic Westbrook faces off against the ever-effective Bulluck.
Westbrook can do a lot of damage in the middle of the field, whether it's running or receiving. His agility makes him one of the top running backs in the league. Bulluck, though, is among the top linebackers in the league every season because he sniffs out ballcarriers.
Teams know that stopping Westbrook is a key in slowing down the Eagles' potent offense. It'll be up to the Titans' star to figure out how to do it.
Clash of the Titans was a cool movie.
Remember the Titans was cool too o-k.
What/who would win in a fight, a Titan or a Gargantuan? Does the winner fight a Behemoth?
Where does Monster and Giant fit into that height chart?

Wow man, thats way too much too early to think about.
eagles get in that ass
31-7
5-2 Eagles.
I think they will put up 40+ this weekend. The Cowboys hung 45 on them with Bledsoe.
Stop Travis Henry and get after Young. He has no one to throw to. The only remote threats are Whitey McWideout and Ben Troupe (or Bo Scaife)
Better hope Young stays behind the LOS. He's bigger than our LBs....
Is his knee healthy? Or will we get Kerry Collins?
i dont think you need or want to 'get after' vince young....the guy is not gonna beat you with his arm...so contain him and make him do just that...ala what they have done with vick so many times
i see fisher coming in with the exact same game plan as jacksonville had with garrad...run the ball down the birds throat and have young make a couple plays with his feet to win the game

Good point. I can agree with that. Maybe employ a mush rush to keep him in the pocket but with enough pressure to force him to get rid of it fast and maybe make mistakes.

I agree with both statements.
The big difference between jacksonville and tennessee is that the Titan runningbacks aren't anywhere close to the same caliber as Jax, imo. Henry is decent, but inconsistant. I haven't even heard from Lendale White since training camp. And Chris Brown needs to have his uniform made from bubble wrap.
Of course, that probably means that all 3 of them will have career days against the Eagles this week.
The Eagles just need to prove that they can win a few games they should.... which would be a nice change of pace...

That's not all they need to do. At this point they need to win the games they should (Ten and @Was) and sneak out a couple of games that they shouldn't. I don't see it happening.
Tennessee already....
Lets hope that the second half of the season starts with another win.
Birds 41
Young 17
Black jersey's this week. :yay
I guess that makes my decision final. I'll go with the black Chad Lewis jersey.
Maybe it will make Schobel less sucky for one game... probably not.
boooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
What... you hear "Schobel" and it's automatic reaction to boo? That's understandable.

I was wondering if they were going to use them at all this year. They only have two more games to get the second wearage in.
If they're gonna wear black jerseys, they might as well wear pink ones too. Stupid marketers meddling where they don't belong.
I guess that makes my decision final. I'll go with the black Chad Lewis jersey
dont kill yourself over the decision sporto
unless you have a throwback no matter what you choose youll be rockin an ugly ass jersey
It's a shame that Jeffrey feels a need to distance himself with the kelly-green era jerseys. Or even the older ones.
it makes me angry at least once a day....literally
whats funny is that the giants and jets both right up the road and one in division arguably have the two best uniforms in the nfl both old school and they are bangin...wake up lurie you bitch....the team does have a history that predates you

if it's about money, he could make a killing on retros. it's almost as if he doesn't care about the money and just wants the Eagles to start with him
EXACTLY...thats how you know its all spite
because seriously is there any fan alive eagles or otherwise that doesnt love the kelly green and the 80 superbowl era johnsons and wouldnt buy the crap out of them if the eagles switched to them
The Titans are 2-7. I don't care what amount of points they have lost by in their losses. Eagles need to tear them a new one.

Let's get with it Jeffery! Black jerseys are so late 90's dude.
Agreed that all it would take is one game in these unis and these things would fly off the shelves.
It wouldn't even take one game. All they'd have to do is have them available and people would buy them.

Yes. :paranoid
The 1980 era is the best ever. They were some sharp fricken uni's.
The new ones are alright although I hate the hell out of the black jerseys.

It's not about money. It's about Lurie making
his franchise the way he wants to. Any reference to the past is done on a very hesitant basis. I honestly think he doesn't want his magic money making machine to be associated with the old-school Eagles. He choses to ignore the past rather than embrace it...unless there is tremendous pressure to do so.
I'd like to see the Eagles pull out the old school 80's unis every once in awhile. Sort of like how the Chargers bring back the powder blue for a few games a year.

Holy shtein is this a game thread or fashionistaa... roundtable? Birds need to spank spank the Titans and not play down to their level. I don't think the Titans have enough thugs around to hang with the Birds. 34-20
the black jerseys are probably the worst thing the philadelphia eagles have done since white helmets

LSU's helmets are yellow, unless you're talking about some throwback.

You'd have us believe that Vince Young sucks so bad that the game's not worth talking about, right?
I was talking about the jersey-discussion, but yeah, that too.
Right. The jersey discussion is on because the game will be such a laugher.
Whether the game is a laugher or not, Vince Young still sucks. At Reche Caldwell-like levels.
Eagles/Titans = trap game.
Totally.
Someone had to say it. Again.
I like the black jerseys. I also like the new green, the old green, and all the whites. It's Eagles wear, so I like it.
And,
Eagles 41
Titans 13
Who does Haynesworth step on in his return back? I got money on Herremans.
LSU's helmets are yellow, unless you're talking about some throwback.
no not throwbacks...they wear them at least once a year...lsu has like 12 different uniform combinations...all of which are bomb
(http://www.profootballtalk.com/FisherDownLow.jpg)
I was surprised at the line on this game. Eagles minus 17 vs Titans. It's the biggest spread of the week, per the GreenBay Press Gazette. I think they can pull it off, but that is pushing it.
its 13
i havent yet and dont know that i will....its to much of a tweener
Too many pts. for this team, I'd take the 13.
I can see the Eagles having a 20 pt. lead and giving up a garbage TD late when they go into that friggen' prevent D.
i see an equal chance of the eagles winning by 24 or by 7
which is why i will not touch this game
I gave someone the Titans and 13 points against the Ravens last week. I'm now out $20.
I'm not going near the Titans again.
Eagles 31
Titans 13
Eagles 23
Titans 17
eagles 76
tits 2
I never bet the Eagles, because I know I'm betting my heart and not my head. But if I was betting them, I'd give away the 13.
Eagles 42
Titans 17
Eagles 30
Titans 13
Eagles 27
Titans 10
Today is another big day for the Eagles. With Indy coming to Dallas, and the Giants playing the Jaguars Monday Night, if the Eagles can win today there is a definite chance that they could move up in the division standings.
Dallas will be tested today by the best team in the NFL. It would be great to see Indy beat them and drop them to .500. That would separate us from them by a game, with the Eagles having the better division record.
After looking like crap against the Bears last week, Manning will be looking to bounce back against the Jags. All the teams the Giants have lost too are teams with winning records that are in first place in their respective divisions, and the Giants will play teams currently with winning records in five of their next six games. They have Jacksonville this week, and have the Tennessee, Dallas, Carolina, Philadelphia and New Orleans in the next 5 weeks. That's a tough schedule, especially for a team with so many injuries at key spots. Last week they lost cornerback Sam Madison (hamstring) and tackle Luke Petitgout (broken leg). Also, Tiki Barber suffered an injured finger. Petitgout is most likely out for the year. Osi Umenyiora is listed as doubtful with a hip flexor, which leaves them paper thin at the DE position with Strahan out for at least the next three weeks.
If the beat up Giants can come out of the next five games in first place to play the Skins the last game of the season, then they deserve the division title, but I don't see that happening, imo, they will be lucky to win three of those games. The Jags are a extremely beat up team with a injury report that reads like a novel. But they are still a dangerous team with plenty of weapons. Fred Taylor has amazingly stayed healthy and has been a big help with Leftwich going down.
This is a must win for the Eagles, especially with having to play Indy next week. Win big today and go up against Indy with a two game win streak, and let's see what happens. There is a chance that the Eagles can win this division if they can play consitantly and not blow up like they did against the Jags.
I wonder if they pound the ball again today? I hope. I mean I'm all for the big play, but I'd rather see the run game again today, and take calculated shots down the field when the run has been established. I'm going to be happy with Westbrook over 100 yrds rushing and over 50 receiving, Donte at 100 + and 1 TD, but most of all go up early and control the clock . The D dominates all day if the offense sustains long-drives.
24-10
GO BIRDS!
A surprise scratch for the Eagles, cornerback Roderick Hood was inactive for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans. Hood missed four of the first eight games of the season with a heel injury. He practiced all week and was not listed on the injury report. Joselio Hanson filled in as the team's nickel corner.
As for the Titans, they were without two starters on defense - cornerback Reynaldo Hill (ankle) and defensive end Travis LaBoy (concussion) because of injuries. Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth returned to the lineup after a five-game suspension for stomping on the head of Cowboys center Andre Gurode. Haynesworth did not start. Randy Starks started at right defensive tackle. Tony Brown started at defensive end for LaBoy and rookie Cortland Finnegan filled in for Hill.
Linebacker David Thornton, nursing a shoulder injury, did not start at outside linebacker. Middle linebacker Peter Sirmon moved to the outside and Stephen Tulloch moved to the inside linebacker spot.
The other inactive for the Eagles were: quarterback A.J. Feeley, running back Ryan Moats, guard Max Jean-Gilles, tackle Winston Justice, defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey and wide receiver Jason Avant.
The Titans declared running back Chris Brown, tight end Ben Hartsock, offensive lineman Justin Geisinger, wide receiver Jonathan Orr and defensive ends Josh Savage and Antwan Odom inactive.

The last question of the PC was why Hood was inactive. Andy said he was outpracticed by Hanson and that it had nothing to do with his foot.
You could hear Didinger say "Hood was deactivated?" he was incredulous. I wonder who Roderick pissed off to get benched.

i read somewhere that Hood's heel is fine and he only played special teams in the Jax game because Hanson was in the rotation and they didnt' want to mess the rotation up.
what probably happened is that they tried to extend him, he declined, and they are farging with him now.
Joselio was one of many who whiffed on no less than 2 important tackles yesterday.
what probably happened is that they tried to extend him, he declined, and they are farging with him now.
WINNER!!
how else can you explain the team thinking that joselio hanson is better than a guy you wanted to sign for six or seven years
not sure whos behind it but i wouldnt be surprised if it were a directive from banner...that guy is ruthless
it goes back to how the whole culture surrounding the team needs fixing...dont you think the players gotta be like what the hell is going on when a guy like hood is sat for hanson
especially after he risked injury by gutting out the sf game earlier in the year even tho hes looking for a deal next year
It is ridiculous that he was a healthy DNP yesterday. He played well against Washington. He said in the Inky today that he knew something was up mid-week because they had him rotating with Will James as the nickle. Hood said he has never shared time in practice as the nickle CB for two years and all of a sudden he was splitting time.
Ok, you wanna get James some time? Fine. But you have to dress Hood over Hanson. Not just for dime purposes but for the goddamn special teams purposes.
Hanson missed the first tackle on that idiot Pacman on his PR TD.
