The eagles need some fixing. Although I wont say they need a major overhaul...but the problems are coming to show themselves one by one. I am not basing any of these pointers on one game. But things I have noticed for a while now...
Some of these things can be done quickly, some need to wait, but I would say most should be addressed. And i quantify this by saying Andy Reid does not need to be fired(yet). But he needs to make these moves or adjustments himself.
Until the Jacksonville game...none of the losses were really due to lack of talent, there were dumbass mistakes made by dumbass players....
On the coaching front...
#1 New Defensive Coordinator
Giving Johnson his last extension was a mistake, see my other thread for more detail....
#2 Fire Ted Williams, the RB Coach
He's been here for 12 years now, and the running game has barely seen improvement (when they do decide to run) in any of that time.
#3 Fire David Cully, the WR Coach
for obvious reasons.
#4 Get rid of any assistant with quality control in their title
#5 Reid has to be a not so friendly guy with his players. They arent mature enough to play hard for a guy who is their friend.
#5 Reid needs to do 2 of the three of these himself:
a: delegate play calling, alltogether.
b: delegate time management. meaning when the guy in charge says "no time out" you do not take a time out.
c: delegate all in game adjustments to marty m. meaning Marty gives reid a new chart to call plays every quarter he focuses on what is or isnt working, and gives that to reid to call the plays on.
#6 Reid needs to do BOTH of these
a: Improve the running of this team. I don't care how
b: Start benching or deactivating any veteran who isnt living up to expectations, regardless of their age. This includes, but is not limited to...Trotter, McDougle, Any Lewis, Baskett, Jones, either Brown, Walker...
#7 Get McNabb some situational knowelege. I wont call McNabb stupid, but sometimes he isnt all that bright. 8 years now...and he takes a sack on 4th down after holding the ball for 10 seconds? He throws it away on another 4th down a few weeks ago to avoid a sack? he throws it to LJ on the 2 with no timeouts left in the half? These are unacceptable for a veteran QB.
#8 Start phasing out some of the old blood.
Yes, this means dawkins, runyun, w/t thomas, trotter. If reid has lost anyone, it's these guys. Combined with the completely rookie like play of trotter and w/t thomas, this season, their barks are much bigger than their bites. If Reid has lost parts of this team, it is led by the veterans who set the examples to the younger guys.
You know you'll be burned at the stake for saying Dawkins has to go, right?
QuoteFix the Eagles, without firing the Head Coach
Stab and Burn the Head Coach.
his replacement needs to be found. he just isnt as good as he once was. his slide in play has completely coincided with the slide of the entire defense, teams just are not afraid to go his way anymore.
If anything, we need to make SS and LB's a priority on the defensive side. SS is a recent development but the LB's have been neglected for such a long time and it shows year in and year out when we get gashed in the run game.
LB's are vital to any team for an effective run defense. Look at all the top teams in the league in run defense, and they all have a very great LB corps.
If JJ doesn't care for LB's, then maybe he has to go. You especially need good LB's if your focus is going to be on a pass rushing D-line, like the Eagles have because there are no real run stuffers along the front four for the Eagles. Darren Howard, maybe, but everyone else has a pass rushing mentality and it shows when they give up gigantic throwing and running lanes on 2nd and 3rd down.

whats the point of having a coach if he cant call plays...manage a game...adjust...and doesnt know how to treat players...to me your post is in direct contridiction with your thread title
as for the running game...if youre not gonna run the ball in 40 mph winds against a team who is missing their all pro DT and MLB then when are you?
the answer is NEVER
reid must go....in fact reid should have went two or three years ago

Inconceivable, yes. But are you also insinuating that we poison Andy?
Nice double-meaning on that photo.
No... I think he wants the Man in Black to coach the Eagles.

Dude, if you're going to do all this shtein just get a new coach. Especially considering #'s 5 and 6. Reid hasn't done anything remotely like that in 8 freakin' years (no matter how many people screamed for him to do something like that), why on earth would he start now? For all the stuff in there (a lot of which is very good) you might as well get a new coach and start from scratch because it's the same thing.
Of course firing Reid means that he goes somewhere else gets a fresh start and wins a Super Bowl.
That's just the way it works. :boom
I don't know if anyone reads craigslist, but there's a section called missed connections where people write shtein about someone they didn't have the balls to talk to in person, or someone they saw on the street, etc., in hopes that they read it and get in touch with them.
anyway, after last weeks game i wrote a missed connection to andy reid as time management. obviously, i was bored, and it's not that funny:
http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/mis/225154648.html
anyway, now i have all of these douchebags in philly named andy emailing me thinking that i'm some girl and i'm looking for them. not sure how anyone could get that out of what i wrote.
Take GM duties away from Reid. We don't have the personnel on defense right now and that is him and Heckert's fault. Andy should have very little say in personnel decisions.
I agree with a lot of the stuff you said too, because not only are we not running, but when we do our line isn't opening up holes. That needs to be fixed.
I can't believe I'm saying this but in the offseason DT needs to be addressed AGAIN. If there is a stud DT out there in free agency then sign him asap. We are getting pushed around in there. Sign some LBs in the offseason, draft a between the tackles RB and we will be moving in the right direction.
I don't believe a lot can be corrected this season. The offense probably could, but to me the defense is the bigger issue in the grand scheme of things and the defense is simply lacking personnel right now. In the offseason we need to sign some impact guys for once. No excuses either, because of now we aren't making the playoffs and if we somehow get in it's one and done.

AR will never win a Super Bowl unless he learns to run the ball, which he never will.
Besides, he's in his late 40's and pushing 325 lbs...how big is that window really?
If Andy gets fired he goes to BYU, so don't worry about winning a Superbowl.
seriously where has the 2 line rotation gone? are we even doing that anymore? where is bunkley?
Two line rotation died after Kearse got hurt. Cole was the anchor of the second line and with him on the first team, the second line sucks... bad.
Bunkley should get more playing time. He is the only DT on our squad with pro bowl potential. Let him work himself in. Especially now that Patterson has a busted hand.

Oh, I thought you said Patterson was a bust.
patterson isnt a bust but he isnt very good either...super vanilla...they need a run stopper enough with the small lineman
i think Cole is being over used in having to play all the time. they need to get back to having someone else out there on 1st and 2nd downs and using him in passing situations.
at the end of the season Reid must go, there, i said it, Reid must go, enough of this insanity.
What fun would it be to fix this team without firing Reid? I mean, seriously.
I think Reid should be fired right now. However, since that won't happen, here's my breakdown of what should happen and what will happen at the end of the season regarding the coaching staff:
Lose out (4-12)
Should: Housecleaning. Adios to entire coaching staff and some key underachieving and "character" players (Mike Lewis, Reno, & McDougle come to mind).
Will: The coaching staff might be fired, but more likely, Reid would be allowed to stay and get a new DC and some other new positional coaches.
Suck ass (5-11 or 6-10)
Should: See above. Adios to entire staff and many players.
Will: One or two coaches might be shown the door, specifically Jim Johnson. Reid will claim the new guys will bring a new attitude to the team. He'll prove to be wrong.
Mediocre (7-9 or 8-8 - the most likely outcome)
Should: Reid should definitely be canned. The new coach should get to choose who he wants to keep and who he wants to cut loose.
Will: No way this record is *bad* enough for Lurie to get rid of Reid, and what's worse, the draft pick will be extremely mediocre too. Yay status quo.
Slight turn-around (9-7 or 10-6 - maybe a 6 seed in the playoffs)
Should: Johnson should still go at season end. If team makes the playoffs, Reid gets one more year to win it all. If not, he should certainly go also.
Will: No one will be FIRED. Johnson and possibly a few others may choose to leave. The ownership, front office, and coaching staff will say that the team did all they could to turn it around and will give us high hopes for 2007. Barf.
Completely baffling finish (11-5 or 12-4 - possible division title & more)
Should: Considering how unlikely and amazing this would be at this point, they can do whatever the hell they want. I STILL think Johnson should be canned unless they win a Super Bowl (in which case he'd probably retire anyway), but regardless... Reid should be allowed to stay if they finish out 7-1 or 8-0. But they won't.
Will: Hahahahaha. This scenario won't happen, so I'll just say they will sign Ryan Howard to be their new MLB, Vince Lombardi to be the new HC, and Willie Beaman to be the new QB... after Reid, McNabb, and Trotter all retire, come out of the closet, and move in together and start a harem of young Mormon boys in Utah.
no fun at all, so i'm on the reid must go bandwagon.

I forgot that he's already our QB.
What a nice coach, he gave his team the week off (http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/99-10312006-734692.html)
He just signed his own walking papers.
That is a terrible, terrible decision.
Quote
"This bye could not have come at a better time for us the way we are playing right now," Brian Dawkins said. "Guys can take a whole week and look at whatever they need to look at, myself included. We will look at the film from the first quarter to the last to see if there was a difference in urgency.
I would have preferred Andy making them doing push-ups and sit-ups this week if he wasn't going to do basic football drills.
Terrible decision.

Yep. We need a Henderson or a Stroud. A big strong DT that can not only fill in the gaps but blow up offensive lineman and get to the QB.
Patterson is a solid DT, but he is not pro bowl caliber. He doesn't have the size or the strength.
I still think Bunkley is going to be a stud for many years to come, but he isn't off to a great start.

man, what a stickler. he punishes the team for their awful performnace with a week off. i wish he was my boss, i did horrible at work last week.
Giving the team off was the right thing to do. At first I didn't like it, but then you figure they've been practicing for 8 weeks now and haven't played 4 quarters of football in any of the games.
Maybe practicing harder isn't the key. They may just need to get away from football and get their heads back in line.

No it's not. If their heads weren't on football, now is the time to take some time off and evaluate yourself and get back to the right mindset so you can focus on football. Even if they practice, their minds can be elsewhere. They just need to get their heads right.
You're an idiot. Shut the farg up.
