Title: Bruce Perry....cornerback!
Post by: PhillyPhreak54 on September 06, 2006, 01:22:16 PM
Yeah, Dawk said that Bruce has been working as the 5th CB (emergency corner) in practice.

Ha.

That would be interesting to see.

So, when Perry is next injured, the offense, defense, and special teams can all point to it as a problem.  Genius.

i guess it clears up a little why they went with 5 RBs and only 4 CBs.

QuoteBoth Sheppard and Westbrook are expected to field punts in practice, although Reid indicated that Sheppard is Mahe's primary backup.

Mahe was the league's leading punt returner in 2005
"We're taking it day-by-day," Reid said.

Sheppard said before Wednesday's practice that he was mentally preparing as if he will return punts against the Texans.

"It's going to be fun," said Sheppard. "I'm a step closer to getting some offensive plays, you didn't hear that from me though (laughs). I'm excited. I get to start from day one and get back there and do some things. Hopefully, everything will work itself out."

Mahe, who led the league with a 12.8-yard average on punt returns in 2005, suffered a high ankle sprain in the preseason win over the Steelers.

Sheppard has eight punt returns to his credit during his time in Philadelphia. He averaged 4.5 yards on a pair of opportunities last season. Westbrook, meanwhile, has two punt returns for touchdowns among his 30 career regular-season returns. He averaged 7.5 yards on eight opportunities in 2005.

All in all, Reid's very brief injury report was a positive considering the team finished 2005 with more than a dozen players on Injured Reserve, including quarterback Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook.

Perry At Cornerback?

Reid was asked Wednesday whether kickoff return specialist Bruce Perry will get any reps on offense Sunday. Reid said that he would on offense in an emergency, but he threw in something else. Reid said that he would work in with the defense and special teams.

Defense?

Yes, Perry is working out at cornerback. Sheppard said he was surprised the first time he saw Perry on their side of the practice field.

"I guess it's a role reversal on his behalf," said Sheppard. "Can he go up and make the tackle instead of delivering the blow?

"The first day we were in meetings, we were like, 'What are you doing here?' When we went out to practice, we saw him out there. I guess it's an experiment. He's taking it well and he's doing well."

i remember reading Perry saying his physical style of running is du2 him enjoying contact.  He has the speed, should have the flexability, so i cant complain.

If the 4th CB on this team sees significant time, they're plenty screwed.  Let's not worry about going 5 deep.

Quintin Mikell plays CB in the dime.  Not kidding.

According to the updated Philly.com story by Marc Narducci, the switch is permanent--at least that's how he wrote it.

That is how he wrote it.

I don't think it matters, though.  Perry will play special teams only in all likelihood.
