Eventhough they made a stop and looked good doing it at the end there, they let half the damn 1st quarter tick away.  That is my biggest issue with JJ defenses they do that and don't give the offense enough time on the field.  And god knows the offense can use as much time on the field as possible.

No no no - you miss the point.  Since the Eagles don't have a running game, they need the other team to kill the clock.

1st down Reggie Brown.  Pick up of 14.

				Ha.  eat it.

4-4 on opening drives and putting up points that is pretty darn good.  Eventhough McNabb wasn't that sharp on that drive his passes are still for the most part right on the money.  I have never seen him this accurate before.

That wind is really helping Akers out.

Kornheiser's farging brutal... he's as bad as Dennis Miller only with less of a vocabulary.

Still better than the last ESPN team.

It's funny when Kornheiser always interrupts someone to say something he can actually comment about, then no one replies. It's happened every single "MNF" game this preseason.
Nice farging sign.

The D read the WR screen beautifully.  :yay

Holy shtein, Buck ran the ball for positive yards!

Nice run by Buckhalter. Awful joke by Kornheiser.

Nice cutback by Buck for a pickup of 9.

				TWICE!

One time I saw someone on TATE call him Beasthalter. I was disgusted.

The Leg is swinging on Buck's sack tonight, ain't he?

Buck throws out his knee is 3, 2, 1...

The only explanation for this is the Steelers have forgotten how to defend against the run. :paranoid

Well, they're surprised we're actually trying.

Buckhalter looks fairly good on this drive.  I just wish this guy could stay healthy.  And there was just a Greg Lewis sighting.

God damn that was a nice grab and run by Greggie.

That was one nice farging throw.
Flag. Unsportsmanlike on Greg Lewis. Cut. Ban.

				Taunting on Greggie?!

				That's a BS call.

Buck needs to learn to stay behind his blockers on the screen. It's not like he's a whole lot faster than they are.

				Is Pinky on the field?

That is the gheyest taunting penalty I have ever seen.  Nice screen to Buck, but he outran his blockers a bit.

Looks like the medicinal marijuana worked for Buck.

McNabb sacked again. Took some effort to get him down though. Still looking to throw while the guy's trying to pull him down.

Oh Jesus, Buck is going to wind up making the roster this year. I mean, he might still very well get hurt, but he's running for positive yards. Why won't he just go away?

Akers from 52... GOOD!!
Btw... would have been good from 60.

				First half stats.
McNabb 7/9 79 yards
Detmer 2/2 6 yards.
Buckhalter 7 carries 31 yards, 4 catches 16 yards.
R. Brown 3 catches 46 yards.
Akers is a kicker.

Reno Mahe got injured. To be honest, I was smiling the entire time they were talking. For some reaso that picture of Reno that was on the TV for half a minute cracked me up.

91 yards for Greggie on two catches. -15 yards for a penalty. What the hell happened to this guy?

				Positives:
- Buckhalter. Great game. Showed he can cut, accelerate, and take some hard hits. I guess we won't be needing Stephen Davis or Duce anymore. Except for when Buck gets hurt in week 2.
- First team defense again. Didn't let up a point. Got good pressure. Howard with another sack. The LBs played well too, and the secondary played pretty good.
- The offense wasn't great but wasn't bad. Reggie Brown had a good game. Greg Lewis did too.
- Dirk Johnson was good at holding. I don't think Detmer will make this team.
Negatives:
- Detmer again. This could very well have been his last game as an Eagle, although he'll probably make it to the last cuts if he does get cut.
- Todd Pinkston. Not that he played terrible, but this was his big game to come out and show everyone he was ready, and had one catch for 3 yards and showed absolutely no will to try to get YAC. He just wanted to go down.
- Dexter Wynn sucks
That's about it. Wasn't very many negatives tonight.

Not sure about that.  It gives Lewis a chance to make the team, but Pinkston did nothing at all and couldn't get open.  You know McNabb or Garcia would have tried to get the ball to him if he was remotely open - but they didn't even throw in his direction.  Gaffney is no lock after another *meh* performance with the 2nd-teamers.

I still think they could easily cut/bury 3 guys from that second group to fit Branch in with ease.

I loved seeing Dirk hold flawlessly on three long FG's.  Bye, Koy.

My only thing is what do they do with Pinky? Does anybody really think that Reid would cut him outright?  Personally I just can't imagine that happening, maybe he gets another "injury" and goes on IR again.

hey you wanna IR him, fine with me just dont save a precious spot on the team for a broke down WR, we already waste a yearly spot on Mahe

I don't care if he makes the team at all, I am just saying I can't imagine Reid just getting rid of him.

The best thing for everyone right now is for Pinky to get hit by a car. Maybe he dies, maybe he goes into a coma. All I know is it would keep Reid from having to make a difficult choice, give the media something to talk about besides Dallas' receiver that won't practice, and give the team something to rally behind.
Pinky, I know you're reading this. Do the right thing, man.

Then let said Dallas receiver get hit by the car, go into a coma, and trade Pinky.  They would get better production from him anyway.

When Pinky goes, and that is when and not if, I wonder if there are any teams desperate enough to give him a tryout.

10-to-1 he'll get another job in the NFL before Big Mouth Mitchell does.  ;D

even though they didn't give up any points, the 1st team defense didn't look great in my opinion.  in fact, i fear that the Steelers may have exposed one of the few ways to move the ball against the defense.  the dline will be very good to great, i think we can all agree on that.  but the way to combat that is but letting them rush up the field and throw a screen pass behind them.  and with these lousy linebackers, once a rb gets into the 2nd level with blockers, it's going to be trouble.

I agree that is a big concern.

I agree that's something that they have to get better at but that's textbook for any agressive defense.

And I agree with that.  Under Jim Johnson, the Eagles have always been abused by the screen.  But screen passes usually don't work too well inside the red zone, which is where they absolutely must improve this year.  JJ has never cared about how many yards the defense gives up.  It's the points he's worried about.  And as long as the front 4 is able to get in the backfield then I think opposing teams will have a hard(er) time scoring when the get inside the 20.

That's the key to slowing down the pass rush - use misdirection and screens. Make the DL hesitate just enough to give the QB an extra second to get the ball off. This has always bitten the Eagles in the ass. Teams play their defensive speed against them. Even though the LBs aren't the greatest, even if you attack great LBs like that it can and will hurt them. Just get them going one way and throw it or run it the other way.
And like Sassy said - they really have to get better in the redzone. You noticed on Friday after the Steelers ate up some yards the defense turned it up a notch and forced an INC, an intentional grounding and then the pick. They weren't in the RZ yet but they were getting close.
Speaking of misdirection - that's how the Giants and Tiki kill them every year. They run those fargin counters and it is like kryptonite to that defense. Hopefully the addition of Bunk and Howard can help stop that.
