Title: mussa's training camp report 7/27/06
Post by: mussa on July 28, 2006, 10:50:42 AM
Sorry I couldn't get this up yesterday, but I have a ton of pics and it would of taken forever to do it all at once.  Left for camp around 6:30 from Lancaster and got up around 8:30 due to zesty traffic on Rt222.   There has to be a better way and if anyone knows, please let me know.  Not as many people as I expected, we got a spot on the "field 2" bleachers and the rookies and practice squad bound lackeys were all pretty much out warming up going through drills.  I'm not going to bore you with the drills cause this is probably a given to those who have been up before...this was my first TC.

Players I didn't see, William Thomas, Buckhalter, Pinkston, Avant, Moats.

Reno, Wynn, Sampy, Reed, Perry were fielding punts right away.  There might have been another guy in their, but he's not going to make it anyway.  Reno was joking around and doing stupid shtein. It just fueled my hatred for him even more.  People were really cheering JR Reed, which was awesome.  I didn't notice anything odd about his stance, walk.  One time it did look alittle akward when he fielded a punt and took his first step, could of been off-balance or whatever. Either way you gotta give it to this guy.

Sampy looks quick as hell. Not only in fielding the punts, but also running routes.  Saw him drop a few passes, but his quickness was impressive.

On the no tackle drills, 3rd team offense on 2nd team D. Trotter yells out from behind the 2nd team, something like, "lets see what you got 34!"  Mahe ripped a nice run up the middle basically untouched and went up to Trotter and showed him the ball.  Everyone got a kick out of that.

Steve Spach destroyed OLB Daniels on one play. Afterwards, the TE or WR coach ran up to him and slapped his hand, he was really pumped and screaming.  Spach had a few memorable blocks.

Sims sniffed out a screen play to Westbrook early and made a great play that had the crowd going.  Thats about all I can remember from him.

Matt Ware had a great bobbling INT during live drills. I'm not sure what WR bobbled it(Garcia threw it), but it ended up off his helmet and Matt Ware snatched it and ran for prob 15-20yrds.

Bruce Perry took a shot early in live drills and pretty much knocked him out.  McCoy was on him and Lito I think was the guy who popped him as he was going down.  The ball popped right out and Dawkins grabbed and drug his feet before going out of bounds.  I am not sure if it was Lito, but it was his side and people were around us were saying it was him.  Perry was down for prob 3-5 minutes.  When he came too he was pissed. HA! I like Perry he runs hard and is a bruiser for alittle guy.  Good play by Lito for laying the wood on him too, getting physical.

McNabb had a nice scramble during live drills, the pocket collapsed and he took off, shaking Sims out of his shoes, and then the DB's just tapped him, but the crowd went nuts and McNabb did alittle dance.  The crowd got louder so he did another strange dance and spiked the ball when going back to the huddle. It was classic McNabb.

Play of the morning session:  Flee flicker, Westy to McNabb. McNabb bombed it to Greg Lewis and placed it right over his shoulder, TD.  I remember there being around 3 guys around Lewis when he caught it, they were about a step behind from my angle.

Thats about all the memorable plays, it is still early and you can tell the D has the advantage like Phreak said. I am just going to go through some players that stood out.

Trent Cole, was blasting the 2nd team LT, McCoy? Skinner? Either way he was in the backfield many times.  He's the smallest guy on the line, yet somehow he gets pressure.

Howard, much like Cole, was getting into the backfield.  Him and Justice had some good battles, but for the most part Howard was winning.

I didn't really have a good view of McDougs or Kearse, but I did notice McDougle getting some good penetration.  Kearse had a few knockdowns.

Nothing spectacular from DT's, Ramsey had a "sack" on Garcia.

LBS, McCoy and Trotter were all over the place.  Barber had a decent play.  Trotter's a shtein talking mofo.

DB's nothing really.  It seemed like all the plays were runs or screens, or short dink and dunk stuff. The only long ball I can remember was the flee flicker to Glewis.  While I am happy they are practicing this, I kinda wanted to see these WR's on some long balls.

Reggie Brown does look like our #1. He quick and didn't drop a pass all day.  He looked like the only real receiver out there other than Gaffeny and G. Lewis.  Nothing special from the others.

Parry wiffed on a few blocks. Tapeh didn't go in on live drills. Didn't notice much from Davis. B. Perry had a sweet stuff of Howard coming off the edge.  He beat his man and Perry came up and slammed him in the chest and took him back a few steps.

McNabb looked good, not only throwing, but he looks thinner.  Garcia blows, I'd rather have McMahon.  Koy is almost as pathetic as Chang.  We are farged if McNabb goes down.

After the morning sessions is was getting very hot and humid.  Brown, Dawk, Trotter and Tapeh came over to our side and signed autographs.  I got Dawkins and Tapeh's.  Freaking Tapeh is a monster. His arms are huge. He looked bigger that Trotter up close? I told Dawkins to give Owens the DawkPlex come October and he just smiled and continued to sign autographs.

We stuck around for maybe half hour of afternoon session and then decided to leave since they didn't have the leg pads on.  It was steaming hot, i got burnt.  So overall my first TC was sweet. Its pretty amazing how hard they hit and how fast some of these big guys are.  I def. want to go again before the season starts.  I'm going to get the photos together here in a minute.  Holler if you got questions.  :yay :yay

Any notes on how Rookie WR Hank Baskett really looks?

Like I said, there wasn't many passes in live drills. That was disappointing. From drills he looked decent.  The only ones who looked real crisp in the routes was Reggie.  McCants got chewed out once for a bad route and they made him run it again. McCants had a few drops also. Baskett didn't stand out. :-\

I like to think that Dawkins calls it "The Dawplex" too.

QuoteBrown, Dawk, Trotter and Tapeh came over to our side and signed autographs.

Ha. When I went two years ago the only guys to sign autographs on the side were Koy and Jeff Blake.  :-D

I really wish Dexter Wynn would just quit. He sucks at fielding punts, I wouldnt be surprised if he muffed all of them even when no one is going to hit him.

How could McCants drop balls and run bad routes.  He's a number 1 receiver.  Just ask him!
