I saw a roadside memorial from somebody who died a few weeks ago at the end of the road. It's sad and all, but do we really need people erecting wooden crosses with plastic flowers at every intersection where somebody farged up? And once they are up, how long should the property owner wait until they can take it down. Bad enough somebody flipped a car across their lawn and marred up their Kentucky Blue, but now they have a wreath of Walmart plastic flowers to remind them for a year and a half. I see some memorials that get replaced every year with a fresh batch of morbid craftsmanship. If anybody buys it on my property I am not going to allow any memorials. I'll throw the stuff right in the trash.
Is that wrong?
There's one near my house that has been getting regular maintenance for a couple of years now. Not that I don't understand and appreciate the grief and sense of loss, but this just seems strange to me.
Sometimes I like to go out and put these things up at random roadsides and intersections. If anyone looks closely, they'll read this:
CHEAP, FAST ROADSIDE MEMORIALS
WWW.ROADSIDEMEMORIALS.COM
These things are horrible. I've actually seen them erected in locations that block views for living motorisits. Look left, look righ...can't see past that damn cross. And it's never a Star of David. Or a Buddha. Always a farging cross.
Just because someone died doesn't mean everyone has to mark the spot. We could put crosses everywhere for that. There's also a tint of "you people, as motorists, bear some responsibility for this."
I hate them. I sometimes stop to take them down. Throw them in gutter where they belong.
Okay..I don't do that. Yet.
It's bad enough that out here in Pittsburgh there are so many cemeteries that sometimes I feel like we are going to run out of space for the living. If there was a memorial every place someone breathed their last breath, we'd eventually be tripping over these memorials all the time. And forget trying to run a usable hospital.
I don't see why the rules should be any different for automobile accidents. I think the memorials ought to be banned on public roadside land. Some states have already taken the initiative on that.
Something can be allowed on private property, provided the owner of the land agrees and is compensated. Don't be a fleshpop and put the landowner in a weird position by asking for something for free. Or worse, just putting shtein there without consulting the landowner at all. And if your little kid gets hit by a truck because you were dragging him across a six-lane highway to visit the spot where Mommy's skull caved in, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I just don't understand why you would want to memorialize where your loved one perished...but I guess location, location, location means a lot for this, too.
I just don't understand how this isn't considered littering. You're putting something on property that doesn't belong to you and leaving it there. I don't care if you go back and "maintain" the memorial, it's still not your property to be putting things.....whether it's a cross, a wreath or a steamy pile of elephant poo.

Well, now we know what YOU leave on the highway.
What can I say? There's like a gazillion free peanuts in every pile.

My wife and I had a (sort of) related battle with my nephew a couple of years ago, when he lived with us for a few months. His group of friends likes to wear clothes with confederate flags on it, and we challenged him on it. He said the standard "it about our heritage" line, which made me laugh. I told him that 1) He was born in Pennsylvania, as was his family for many generations, and 2) It was a symbol of tyrrany and slavery for a large percentage of the population of this nation.
Unfortunately, we didn't get through to him, because he still wears the gear. Peer pressure triumphs over reason once more.
fargin hate those jackasses and their shtein for flag. wake the farg up.

Another thing that really annoys the hell out of me, the stickers on the back of peoples windows for a loved one or a friends cousin or whoever they felt the need to spend 10 bucks on so the rest of us can sit in traffic and see this morbid thought for however long your stuck behind these douches.
I only saw my first one of those window things the other day. Strange.
