A walkon in the NFL? What's the story?
They fail to mention that he was also related to Vermeil

No, that wasn't Vince Papale - you're thinking of Louie Giammona.
Papale was strictly a special teams guy, but a decent one and, as you all can imagine, a big fan favorite. How could you not root for a guy who made the team in that way? ;)
wait for it....
wait for it.....

QuoteInqlings | Tale of unlikely Eagle Vince Papale to be shot in Philly
Mark Wahlberg will star as the special-teams player. It's one of several films to be done here.
By Michael Klein
Inquirer Columnist
The story of Vince Papale - the Interboro High substitute teacher and part-time bartender who won a walk-on role with the Eagles nearly 30 years ago - is coming to the big screen, and the bulk of it will be shot here this summer for Disney.
Producer Mark Ciardi, a Jersey guy, says he and partner Gordon Gray of Mayhem Pictures have Mark Wahlberg coming in to star as the hard-charging special-teams ace/wide receiver. The 12-week shoot will start in early August. Ericson Core, who was cinematographer on Payback and The Fast and the Furious, will direct.
Other roles must be cast. Kevin Bacon's name has been bandied about for the role of coach Dick Vermeil.
Invincible was a working title, but Ciardi and Gray may not be able to obtain it. "So it's The Untitled Vince Papale Project," Ciardi said yesterday. Gray and Ciardi produced Miracle and The Rookie for Disney. The script is by Brad Gann and Mike Rich (The Rookie).
Papale, now an executive with lender Sallie Mae, yesterday said he was thrilled. "This is a true story. No fiction." A role for him? "I don't know what they're going to do with a 59-year-old, grizzled, old, former special-teams guy," he said. "Maybe a coach."
Philly had a strike against it because there's no more Veterans Stadium, important to the plot. But Gov. Rendell phoned a studio exec to make the case that the film needed a hometown perspective and that Disney could work around the obstacle, says the Greater Philadelphia Film Office's Sharon Pinkenson.
This is shaping up to be one of the busiest years yet for the office, which sets up these multimillion-dollar projects.

from Eagles season ticket holder to Philadelphia Eagles Player....Papale I think is every Eagles Fans idol.
Kevin Bacon better learn how to cry on demand.
Got it covered. He can watch the complete history of the Eagles and Phillies. Makes me cry every time. :'(

eh...the movie is a snoozefest but bacon was decent enough in it...its one of those small indy type films that a certain segement of the movie watching population will rave about regardless of how boring/bad it is just because its not a big budget release...ie 95% of the movies that come out of sundance

Wonder if Darnell Autry will audition.
i heard this woman on MMR this morning. said, if you're a guy, dont plan to cut your hair if you want in on it until after october. stupid shaggy 70's
if I didn't have to appear professional for my real job I'd so be at the casting call
Know what's farged up about that though?
If you have NCAA eligibility left and you try out for that role and make it -- you lose all NCAA eligibility.
What the farg is that? Just more proof that the NCAA is the spawn of satan.
i hope shoulderpad shawn is there :D
:-D
He would've been better off in Danza's garbage man movie.
So, you must have hair and you must relinquish any NCAA eligibility. I WAS an Eagles fan in 1976. I have hair and no NCAA eligibility left. I should get first shot!! :-D

Dee Brown declared himself for the NBA draft breaks his foot and will be allowed to return to the University of Illinois to kick ass. Why don't football players get that? Does the NCAA have different rules for different sports?

You don't lose eligibility until you officially retain an agent. Or star as an extra in a bad football movie.
It's really tough to star in anything as an extra.
It's really tough for your mom to star in anything.
I think I'm getting the hang of this.
almost, rjs
it's really tough for your mom to star in anything with hbionic, because he is teh ghey, and can only preform when he's watching sarge shower.
No, you're not. Just stick to nonsensical anal references.

Correct. Giamonna was Vermeil's nephew. Papale was no relation.

If that farging clown is in this movie, I'll personally write the director myself.
hopefully the director realizes how much of a tool the guy is when he shows up in face paint and shoulder pads and just sends him home.

Fixed.
In the Metro today it said they are looking for 700 level type fans too. They are casting 14,000 extras so just about anyone who shows up at the casting session tomorrow will get in.
Papale was a cool story. Never played college football and only one year in high school. He was a decathlete at St Joe's. I believe he played for the Bell first before the WFL went defunct. I know he was special teams captain for a while. If I remember right, he delivered pizzas while in St Joes to buy his season tickets.
It's been confirmed that Mark Wahlberg will be playing Papale, but the new news is that Greg Kinnear will be playing Vermeil. That's right... Greg farking Kinnear! :-D
You can see the trailer here.... (http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/index.html?dlink=invincible)
looks pretty good.
Don't look too bad. With it being a Disney movie though it is seriously going to lack the profanity needed to make it truly authentic.
I hope Greg Kinnear's got his crying technique down.

He should. He was quite convincing as a homosexual in As Good As It Gets. He even had Chuggie fooled.

Good call 64. Louie Giammona was about the same size as Reno.
Kinear as Vermeil, hhhmmmm. I envisioned Ryan Seacrest as Vermeil.
Man I got chicken skin watching that trailer, especially the shots of Wahlberg in the Vet. Great cinematography work as this began filming after they blew up the Vet did it not?
Yep.
It was filmed at Franklin Field

Agree. Actually looks watchable. Plus, any widely-released movie with an E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES chant deserves a ticket ot two purchased by me, no?
how unbelievably gay would it be to go to the theater with an eagles jersey on...do it ff
not any jersey..a Papale jersey
that would be in unchartable gayness....a regular jersey is bad enough...of course this would only apply outside of philly....i cant wait to go around here and see how many guys are in full eagle hat and jersey at the theater

This is coming from the guy who said there was no shame in seeing "Brokeback Mountain" with another dude in the theater, and even sitting next to him.
I won't wear a jersey anyway, though. If I do, it will be a special retro johnson with "HAVAS 69" on it. Holla

there would be no shame in that
'gay' is the new 'corny' and homophobia is so 1990's

Shoulderpan Shawn is going to see it with not only a jersey, but the pads and makeup too.
They probably won't be showing it here. Damned Cowboys.
