Title: Gaffney to trade #'s with Koy
Post by: MURP on May 16, 2006, 09:40:40 AM
exciting post mini camp news as always.   :D   never knew he held the Freshman TD and yards records.

QuotePHILADELPHIA -- Koy Detmer is the kind of teammate who would give up the shirt on his back. But in at least one instance there could be a price on it. Newly acquired wide receiver Jabar Gaffney has asked Detmer to part with the No. 10 he's worn in his nine seasons as a backup quarterback with the Eagles.

"Now that the NFL has let receivers go back to wearing numbers 10 through 19, I would like to get out of the 80s and get back to No. 10," Gaffney, who wears Freddie Mitchell's old 84, said Monday. "It worked pretty good for me in college."

Gaffney still holds the NCAA I-A record for single-season touchdown receptions with 14 and receiving yards with 1,184 as a freshman at Florida. He played just one more season with the Gators, finishing as a consensus all-America first-team selection and finalist for the Fred Biletnikoff Award.

Detmer is open to a negotiation although he politely indicated he wouldn't be divulging the contents of that business.

"I don't know what it's worth," Detmer said. "We'll come up with something."

Detmer wore 14 in college at Colorado and 14 in high school.

Gaffney wore No. 86 with the Houston Texans, who took him off the board with the first pick of the second round in 2002.

Gaffney (6-1, 205) played in all 16 games last year for the fourth consecutive season, catching a career-best 55 passes for 492 yards and two TDs.

Gaffney earned praise for having a solid minicamp. The Eagles used him at a variety of positions including the slot.

"It's just all about getting comfortable, learning the system and knowing what you do when the play is called," Gaffney said. "Then you can go out and play. (Donovan McNabb) throws a nice pass. He has the touch but he also has the velocity. He can fit the ball into some pretty tight spaces."

Gaffney is the cousin of Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard and the son of Derrick Gaffney, who played wide receiver for the New York Jets.

If Koy were smart he'd cash in immediately.

What will Koy make Gaffney pay?  Actual cash?  I hope not.  I hope he goes for some kind of humiliating stunt, or makes him donate a day's labor at some charity.

I would just corner Koy and put him in a nuggie headlock until he agrees to hand it over.

If they were trading numbers... wouldn't that mean Koy would be #84?

Ahh what does it matter. He probably won't even make the team.
