Thu, 11 May 2006 05:09:58 -0700

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith has decided to retire from the NFL after 12 seasons. He has reportedly told head coach Jack Del Rio of his decision. The Jaguars are expected to hold a press conference Thursday, May 11, unless Smith has a last-minute change of heart.

picked a tough time to do it with the jags rising, but he goes out on a great year and will be remembered for a great career. more pros should learn from this rather then fading out.

Favre...you there bud?

Someone one this board said they wanted Jimmy Smith as a 2 year rental or something, and I believe it was SDEagle that said that he was considering retirement this year.

bionic, the Jags have good WRs. They can afford to have Smith retire. Reggie Williams was a 1st rounder 3 drafts ago, Ernest Wilford was drafted in the 4th in that same draft I believe. so far Wilford is better but if Reggie gets his shtein together can be a real good receiver. Matt Jones was their 1st rounder last year and is nasty.

Jag fans are not too happy with Williams--they like him like we like G Lewis

So I guess you're implying a Reggie Williams for Greg Lewis deal is already in place?   :D

I'd still take Jimmy for 2 years. Just because he retires doesn't mean he can't play anymore. Plenty of players retire with gas left in the tank.

I heard this when I was driving into work today. And i immediately thought back to the little statement made by PhillyForever/Bunkley"The Thing"/Bunkley78.

Retirement.

He is obviously retiring because he's done.

Nice call. :yay

What it does mean is that he won't play anymore though.  Same thing from a production standpoint.
