That has got to hurt (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-162891478515007486)
ouch. i feel sorry for the bike. :D
whoever assembled the bike just hit the unemployment line.
Which people are stupid here? I fail to see how a guy trying to go fast on a bicycle is stupid. He wore protective gear, had plenty of people on hand to take care of him if something went wrong, etc.
I think it's pretty idiotic that you think this guy is stupid.
I'm not surprised his bike couldn't withstand the pressure. I'm more concerned with why his helmet flew off after the first bounce.
Yea when I saw his head flying around with no helmet I felt like slapping him silly. Did he start off with one? Man that must have been some force to snap the frame like that. Usually the frame will bend, but not completly snap. Must have been just the right angle. Man he got farged up!
Oh yeah, he starts with one. Hitting the ground at 163 KMH might knock it off. But you'd hope not. He looks pretty concussed in the aftermath.
The fork snapped off the bike. That is a pretty typical failure for extreme bicycling.
wasn't just the fork, it was the entire front end, handle bars and all. I'd call that the frame Mr.
lolol @ the end when hes all disheveled
anyone that does stupid shtein like that deserves whatever happens to them
haha. that very last shot of him all messed up is great.

Huh. Well, maybe you're right. I'm not watching it over again just to see. Point is, the ride put the bike under extreme stress. Any frame might fail under that. I have a friend who races mountainbikes downhill professionally. He's snapped a dozen frames, easily.
too bad there wasnt a ramp on that hill.
or a brick wall at the finish line
The first guy made it and was going 163km and hour. That's 101 mph on a bike...

Was the same dude. He used a different bike at the end to gain more speed. I think in the video it shows him at around 175kmh just before the wreck. :o

You ain't kidding. He gets these bikes made special for the purpose, and routinely breaks them. It's impressive as hell. No fear, just none. I respect it, rather than thinking it's stupid.
The guy who fell had a topspeed of 172 km/h.
I think the guy is still an idiot. If doing something like this he should have worn motorcycke helmet. I have seen guys fall of a MotoGP bike and tumbling around at 150+ miles an hour without the helmet coming of. He was plainly an idiot for not wearing a jaw/guard. That the helmet came of is IMHO in all lileyhood due to the rider himself.
BTW, I believe the land speed record for a bicycle on a flat surface is somewhere around 200 mph. Achieved on the salt flats while slipestreaming behind a super sports car... The top speed achieved in downhills in races like the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France is sometimes above 60 mph... on a 10ft wide, winding road with hairpins and such....

Clearly, he should have been wearing a full face helmet. So I can agree, he's stupid for that.

I started a thread for MotoGP (http://www.concretefield.com/forum/index.php?topic=18305.0) in the Other Sports forum, if you're interested.
