It's looking way ahead, but I'd take Jimmy Smith for 2 years. He's still very productive.

Jeez. Just when I think you're going in the right direction you go back to snorting mounds of crack (maybe you got some of Jimmy Smith's stash?).
He was thinking about retiring this year!
Fork.
Stick.
Done.
70 catches 1023 yards and 6 TDs disagrees with you.
But, I'd take Branch and Stallworth over him simply for their youth. Plus they aren't bad receivers either.
Once again.
He was thinking about retiring this season.
So you want him for two more years AFTER this year?
Stop.
As long as he's still productive. One year would be ideal for him though.
I hope we can land Jasper next year.
So what happens to Dawk after this year. Does he get an extension now or do the Eagles let him "test" the FA market?

Don't teams have until late Oct/early Nov to sign players to extensions and allow part of it to count against this year's cap? ......or something like that?
I think (hope) that after the first month or so of the season, the Eagles will evaluate Dawk's performance and make him an offer to keep him from hitting FA next year. If free agency comes next year and the Eagles haven't signed him then I'd say it's a safe bet that he won't be back.
If Gaffney doesn't make it this year, I wouldn't mind looking at Branch or Wilford. Wilford is the least known among the Jags receivers of Williams, Smith and Jones, but is very productive and appears to be the kind of WR the FO likes to target: young, upcoming and relatively cheap.
Gregg Easterbrook talks up Wilford every week in his TMQ article.
To the point that Wilford might be the most famous WR in Jacksonville. Willams, Smith, and Jones. Who dey??
I don't feel like researching these right now to see if they're correct, but supposedly the following are also free agents after this season:
Tony Gonzalez
Bryant McKinnie
Levi Jones
(Edit: Braham and Briggs have been added to the original list)
I read about Briggs in TSN, that is correct.
Briggs will probably re-sign in CHI. RosenTO is his agent and he's been talking to da Bears about a new deal.
LB = Cato June, Lance Briggs, Shawn Barber, Al Singleton, London Fletcher, Randall Godfrey, Nate Webter, Na'il Diggs, Anthony Simmons, Brandon Short
some possibles on this list...how 8) is the name Na'il Diggs
We could have had him this year if there was any interest...
Oh boy! Another GB FA LB. Just what we always wanted!

maybe.. but the TSN blurb said he turned down an offer from the Bears where he would be the second highest paid behind Urlacher.

QuoteJaguars | Smith decided to retire
Thu, 11 May 2006 05:09:58 -0700
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith has decided to retire from the NFL after 12 seasons. He has reportedly told head coach Jack Del Rio of his decision. The Jaguars are expected to hold a press conference Thursday, May 11, unless Smith has a last-minute change of heart.
Note to self: Ernest Wilford's stock just inflated in all fantasy leagues.
Might have more of an impact on Matt Jones.
Him too.

Brilliant!
I don't see the Cowgirls letting Witten hit the open market, but if they do we need to be all over that.
Again, just because Jimmy retires doesn't me he can't play anymore. He obviously can because he got 70+/1,000+ last year.
and they wont...unless Parcells ships out. he is an integral part of that offense now, and Parcells loves to throw to the tight ends...he always has.

He doesn't
want to.
It appears so.
they should throw him the ball anyway.
All he needs is a magical coaching fondle to want to play again and be a lock for Canton.
Jimmy Smith just retired today, so nobody can get him anymore.
Those damn Skins fans are quick as hell ain't they?

Jimmy V. would be so proud of you.
