I think it deserves it's own thread don't you?
What do you want today? I want Bunkley and Walker. I'd settle for Ngata as well. I don't know how the hell they could pull off both. Keep your fingers crossed fellas.
Other areas I'd like to see addressed: SAM, RB, KR/PR, OG/C
Oh, and anyone watching it at a party? Watching it alone? Just with a few friends?
I'm having a few friends over, so I may occasionally check in to chat every once in a while, but more than likely I'll be on at night to discuss the draft with you fine folks. ;D
As an outside observer I've got to say that Philly Forever might be the worst poster this board has seen in the last 18 months. And that is saying quite a bit. But way to start an 'Official' thread, dude.
You're right, I do miss you. Now go away again.
Okay, I'm in full on Draft geek mode, got NFL radio on, ESPN on the tube, and the internet up with 7 different sites opened. Just bought a WaWa turkey hoagie, chicken noodle soup, and some Fruit Punch Gatorade.
Good times. I don't even have cable tv, so all I've got is :CF and the rest of the Internets.
I think that the Eagles truly want Bunkley. I think if they wanted Ngata, their trade partner would be the Lions or the Cardinals. Bringing it up because a lot of people are still saying Ngata is the guy they want. Unless they tried to trade up with those teams and couldn't.
Ngata or Bunkley would be fantastic. Either of them, who cares. Just please Andy, stay away from the LBs with the first pick. You've got no skills at drafting LBs. Save that position till after the most important pick.
Didn't see it reported so I'll just throw it in here, NFL radio is reporting Lendale White failed some drug test. Sort of heard it in the background and didn't hear the details. Also talk of Leinhart falling out of the top 5. Crazy, he comes out last season and he's a stone cold lock to be selected #1.
Solidifying that defensive line is the first step in shoring up this defense. We'd be only a SAM away from being a very very solid defense.

I heard that he was tested positive at the combine. Not sure for what, but I wonder if the Steelers pass on him now.
At the combine? Hmmm...interesting that it just surfaced.
Now that Williams is the #1 pick, the Texans need to immediately go up to the mic and make their selection. Complete bullshtein if they wait it out.

Agreed. Even if they didnt have their pick, they should just be forced to make their pick at 12:01. They've had what, 4 months to pick?
Yup, and I'm an impatient bastich. Tags should welcome the fans to the 2006 NFL draft then announce the pick.
TEXANS STALLING?
Current speculation around the league is that Houston will sit on the first pick for almost the full 15 minute time limit allotted to them in order to throw a bone to both the snore leader ESPN and the NFL Network as they begin broadcasting at 12:00am EDT today and give them more time to show commercials.
In addition to that, the general consensus we're hearing is that the Saints will take almost a quarter hour themselves as they field all sorts of calls in an effort to get the best value for a trade if they decide to hold off on signing Reggie Bush.
If all of this goes down as expected we might not hear Reggie Bush's name called until close to 1:00pm today.
:boom
New Orleans is going to take Bush, not trade him.

Dio: Don't you attend the draft every year? Or am I confusing you with someone else?
I have, but bailed this year because I have errands to run that I can't do tomorrow (or during the week). Oh well.
Right on.
I thought I heard an E-A-G-L-E-S chant so I turned off my radio and TV, look outside, and there's a bunch of drunkard Eagles fans walking down the middle of the street with beers in hand and Eagles jersey's on. Only in Philly....
NFL radio reporting the Titans will select Vince Young at #3.
Huh. Well, the Jets are pretty much a lock for D'stupid name OT I suppose. Unless they trade down.
Game time baby.
So far this year's draft sucks.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Irvin is a dumbass. I can't stand him. I never agree with him.
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, I agree with what he just said about skipping Bush with the number 1 pick was a huge mistake.
Tagliabue is kicking off the draft. Houston is on the clock.
Kudo's to the Texans for not waiting it out. Onto Bush, then Young, then Ferguson.
Yeah. Let's hope these fools push this thing along with the quickness.

Don't worry, they'll blame it on the handful of Eagles fans in attendance.
How would you like to be Bush's agent, and just hearing on TV that the Saints owner called and told his guys "Don't let him be a hold out. Pay him!!"
The Aint's select Reggie Bush.
Alright then. Let's keep this show moving. Reggie Bush is gone. Tennessee, do your thing, please.

Vince Young - Titans #3
Draft speed is moving along nicely. Should start to get interesting around the #5 pick. Jets are on the clock.
Man not one of my picks for my mock has been correct so far.

Of course he will. They'd be idiots not to take him. (Unless they trade down--they've got lots of needs.)
How far does Leinart fall if the Jets don't take him?
Arizona?
Oakland?
Quote from: Diomedes on April 29, 2006, 12:41:53 PM
Oakland?
I thought that but I have read that Oakland is really high on the guy they took from ASU last year at QB (Andrew Walter).
I suppose that could be a "smokescreen" though.
I actually think the Jets should take Ferguson, their line is a mess and they could really use this guy. They could draft another Qb later in the draft.
Sal Pal is painting this as some kind of nightmare choice for the Jets. Please. They knew either Leinart or Young would still be around at #4. Ferguson is still the obvious choice to make.
They've got Ramsey. He can start. Pennington can back him up until he proves himself wasted and they dump him. Either way, the Jets NEED O-line support.
I agree, no point to taking a QB if you can't reasonably protect a QB from getting his neck broken.
The Line on them booing?
hmmmm....they aren't booing too bad
Leinart has a sick look on his face :-D
D'Brick #4 to the Jets
GB is up next. This is where it starts to get interesting.
What happens now?? Trade? GB goes with Hawk? Vernon Davis?
either Hawk or Davis for GB
Things are running along at a reasonable pace. Hopefully the momentum keeps up.
They'll redraft Brett Favre so they can give him another big contract. They love him that much up there.

Niners will probably go with Vernon Davis with the 6th pick.
That might not be a mis-spelling, Little Miss Muffin Ass.
I don't think it's been that interesting a draft day overall. Except for the #1 pick news that broke last night, each pick has gone to the most likely player, and there haven't been any trades. Things need to get mixed up a bit more, and I expect they will over the next several picks.

If Ngata and Bunkley go 12-13, then I will die.

But if they dont take Justice, Bunkley, or Ngata couldnt one of them fall to the Cowboys? :boom
they annouced what the trade was in the background
I swear, if Cleveland screws us again like they've already done this offseason....
I'm pretty sure the trade was #11 for #15 and #61
11 for 15 and 68

here's hoping the browns pick Wimbley or Lawson(my pick in the mock contest).
Christ they are taking a long time.

Now do the browns take Bunkley?
Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaase, don't take Bunkley Cleveland. You already stole Bentley from us.

Cleveland is going to farg the Eagles right up the ass again this offseason. Right in the pooper. >:(
Please take Lawson, Wimbley or Justice here, Romeo. PLEASE.

Ray Lewis sure thinks highly of himself.

Gotta not like Ray Lewis, or Ngata either for that matter.
Cleveland gets Baltimore's 6th round pick in that trade (#181)
I want to know why they are taking so long again for there pick.
Schlereth is bashing the Ngata pick pretty bad.
Cleveland gets pick 181 from Bal to swap spots.
The Suzy interviews aren't working out too well.
NFL Network reporting Winston Justice will be Clevelands pick (If I heard correctly) I might be wrong, though. So many things on right now.

Crazy, we have so many 4ths to offer, wonder what they'd be willing to give up. Schein and Cross on NFL radio were in agreement that Mangold would have been a solid pick for the Birds at #14. Of course they loved the Bunkley pick.
Could also be one of the recievers. There are actually none off the board right now.
Eagles Live w/ Spadaro
Minnesota takes Greenway at #17
Dallas has their pick of WR, Justice, or Lawson
Greenway
If Eagles trade back in, IMO they take Bobby Carpenter or a receiver.
I would think Dallas would take Justice, I really hope they don't take Lawson but that is probably who they will take.
At this point if the Eagles manage to get Mangold and Walker, we can all close our eyes and take a nap 'til training camp.
The Eagles will be golden.

Of course. He's a Florida WR...

Jimmy Williams, Justice to Tampa now?
I totally forgot that Justice was still on the board, man the Eagles should try to move up and get him if he keeps falling.
A lot of offense is falling. Could the Eagles stand pat and have another gem fall to them?
I have the Bucs taking Marcus McNeill.
But since Justice is on the board he has to be the pick.
Their RT Kenyatta Walker sucks ass.
There is going to be a fantastic player available at that point if they stand fast. My prediction for TB is Justice.
Seven of the first 22 picks play offense. Seven.
Tampa is taking a while. I wonder if the Eagles have something to do with this?
Its going to be Justice or one of the WRs.
They need someone at WR because Galloway is old and so is Hilliard and Shepperd sucks.
Tampa Bay selects:
Davin Joseph!!!
An OG?!?!?!?!?
Lot of guys are falling. Interesting draft, as expected.
Also, just have to say how happy I am that the Eagles aren't one of the teams making these reach-type, headscratching picks. That would drive me nuts. I still get shudders thinking about Jon Harris.
Hey all, interesting Draft Day. I missed everything up to the Bucs pick just now (working as usual  ) but wanted to stop in since I haven't been on in ages. Hope everyone's doing well.

Jonathan Joseph - CB - South Carolina
Cincy picked Jonathan Joseph with the 25 pick

My bad. I agree with Justice here for the Giants. Pettigout's old and on his last leg.
I really hope the Giants pull one of their weird first picks like Petigout or Thomas Lewis. That would be sweet.
And thinking about it more, they could also go WR here.
Toomer is older. And after Burress they really don't have much. Jamaar Taylor and David Tyree are nice 3rd-4th guys but thats about it.

He's a USC Tackle that many people had going 10-15. A raw player who most experts agree if he had stayed in school 1 more season he'd be next years D'Brick of the draft. I'm guessing his character issues are responsible for his fall.
Giants trade their pick to the Steelers
Might be Lendale White here

Ah, thanks SD. I barely follow college football.

Holmes it is. Thats a good pick for them.
I am familiar with him. Saw a few Ohio St. games last year.

Thomas Howard
Jimmy Williams

LenDale White to NY?

Jets are on the clock.
Does anyone have the link to that draft pick value chart?
Marcedes Lewis, Do the Jets go Oline again and select Mangold? He certainly would fill a need. Or do they snatch up Joseph Addai right in front of the Colts.
This is probably nitpicking, but is anyone else annoyed with Berman calling out the picks 10 seconds before being selected? It's not mere speculation either. It's pretty clear that someone is telling him who is about to be picked, and he tells everyone else before they're selected.

Thats why I am glad I have NFL Network,

Colts have to be going RB here.
Indy needs RB bad with White or Addai
though my picking has sucked to this point
Colts pick is in already
Do they go White or Joesph Addai here?

The worst thing is, he thinks he's being clever by throwing in things like, "after losing Mawae, look for the Jets to add to their OLine here. . .", and then they pick a center, making it seem like Berman is a genius before the pick is made.
"The Bills are about to throw a curveball here. . . "
I don't know, I just view it as incredibly anticlimatic before each pick is made.
Addai is an interesting pick here.
Joseph Addai, they didn't waste anytime either. I wish more teams would do that. Seattle should go with Jimmy Williams.
Hmmm... Berman's suddenly finding out these picks moments before they happen, and IGY's nowhere to be seen this afternoon.
Coincidence? I think not.

I can't imagine that Justice will still be there. NE just traded up I would think it would have to be for Chad Jackson right in front of Denver. Maybe this starts the run on WRs. Does Denver go with a WR now?
can justice slide in and play lg? runyan just signed a 2 year deal and tra still has time left. as good as he could be, given the character issues and him probably not being able to help next year, why should we do it?

Because Tra's health is still a question mark and even if he can play there is no guarantee that he will be able to play up to the level we need him to. His contract is up after this year I think too.

True true. I haven't really seen too much of these guys but after Stovall, who I think will be gone, my favorite is Marshall.
I think our third and our higher fourth would get us into the late second round.
So if the Eagles really like someone...
Jets prob going QB
Aromashadu I like, can take Pinkstons spot. Real good speed, good size at about 6'1" 205.
Demetrius Williams would also be a Pinkston replacement.

Dallas picks:
ANTHONY FASANO - TE - NOTRE DAME
Stovall's still out there, and we pray.
nice set of TE's Dallas now has
Fasano's a good pick.
Good pick for Dallas I am suprised that Pope is still on the board, and I think there is a pretty good chance that Stovall will be there at their next pick. I don't think that some teams are as high on him as the Eagles. This is the second consecutive year that Dallas has put together a solid draft, well at least thus far. They still need a safety.
Why does Dallas keep taking Notre Dame players? They're forcing me to hate guys I used to love.

Jags have Reggie Williams, Matt Jones, Ernest Wilford and Jimmy Smith. They dont need him. Stovall is alot like Muhammad, who the Bears already have.
Logically yes, but he's the best WR on the board and Jimmy Smith is old, and Matt Jones sucks.

I am a little concerned about the LB to WR importance. If Stovall is there in the third, grab him. But then again, if they hang out and get Marshall out of UCF later that is cool too. Maurice Stovall at 76 then Clint Ingram in the 4th is the ideal scenario, IMO.

Quote from: Dillen37 on April 29, 2006, 08:23:21 PM
Buffalo might take him. They have two small, fast guys in Parrish and Evans. Parrish is better suited for the slot anyways. Jets could take a WR. So could Chicago.
They also signed that sud Peerless Price!
And CHI is having a terrible draft so far. Devin Hester and Danieal Manning?
Buffalo picks:
Ashton Youboty
Youboty to the Bills.
and we pray... :evil
Bills select Ashton Youboty CB Ohio State

Eagles trade up. I bet they arent taking Stovall.

Wooot!!
Got to be Stovall!
Please be Stovall, please.
You guys type to fast, I'll just go back to enjoying my pudding. :)
Stovall? we shall see
This has to be Stovall..
or Jean-Gilles.....or Pope...
On NFL.com it is still listed that we have pick 76.
C'mon be Stovall or die.
I wouldn't mind for them to take Pope either.
Would anyone be disappointed with Pope?
A DE? Weird
CHRIS COGONG!!
OUR SAM LB!!
Gocong
a DE?
Chris Gocong. Nice. Im serious too, ihe could play SLB. I hope we still have pick 76.
WTF? Who is this guy?
Chris Cogong
Chris GoCong LB Cal Poly
farg, I wanted Stovall
This guy had 41 sacks in 2 years
This guy has some serious, serious potential.
A very nice pick here.

That is what they're most likely thinking. There are still a decent number of WRs left, Williams, Stovall, Marshall, Webb, Aromashadu. I want them to trade up into the 3rd again.

Apparently so, that's not much to move up. Damn, I still wanted Stovall.
Now best case scenario is stovall falls to our 108.
Good case is we trade back into the third.
Maybe we'll trade back into the 3rd?
Eagles seemed to have a read on Bunkley and Justice falling, maybe they are hearing things?
Lions take Brian Calhoun
There is still a going to be very good WRs on the board in the 4th and who knows maybe they can move around and still get Stovall.
Jesus christ. I have a fountain in my house, and since the water is running I've pissed 6 times since 2 o'clock.

Honestly, I wouldnt be surprised if the entire thing was a smokescreen and they never take Stovall, like how they passed Barnes twice last year.
I'm still hoping that there is some way we trade back into the 3rd.
But if not, we have an early 4th rounder.

Rams GM hospitalized with pain in arm
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Rams general manager Charley Armey was hospitalized on Saturday night, the first day of the NFL draft, after complaining about general weakness and pain in an arm.
Team spokesman Rick Smith said preliminary tests were normal, but that Armey would be kept overnight at Missouri Baptist Hospital.
Armey has been with the Rams since 1997 and is responsible for much of the player evaluation in the draft.

But still. You can find a good blocking TE who can do what Campbell did later on. And they still have that glaring hole at FS. I'm glad they took Fasano because it means they did not address their FS hole.

I would like to see Williams added at #108. If he's gone then work down the list.

If Pinkston is starting in september I'm going to throw up. But there's still june first cuts ant 2nd day of the draft, so not to panic yet.
Even if the Eagles don't add anyone, Pinkston won't start.
I don't know if anyone else thought the same thing, but Lendale White looks a lot like Carmelo Anthony.
and it pissed me off.
A few league-wide draft observations by me:
1. Is Marv Levy nuts or just plain stupid? I like John McCargo and Donte Whitner. But Whitner at #8? And trading up to get McCargo in the 1st round? Crazy. To completely ignore Winston Justice when they have a converted TE in Jason Peters and Mike Gandy as the starting OTs is stupid. Getting Ashton Youboty in the 3rd was very nice. But hey, their stupidity is our gain. Thank you Crazy Marv. Maybe we'll send you a fruitbasket and some Metamucil to show our thanks.
2. What the hell was Chicago doing? I mean, come on. What was the Bears strength last year? Defense. What was the Bears weakness last year? Offense. What do the Bears do today? They trade out of the 1st and then take Danieal Manning, a defensive player. And then they pull a major head scratcher and reach like hell for Devin Hester. And then they go and take Dusty Dvoracek as if Tommie Harris, Tank Johnson, Israel Idonije and the others at DT aren't enough. Hey Lovie...here's a newsflash. You need a WR to take some heat off of Moose and you need a TE. You need offensive help unless you dig putting the onus on your defense for 60 minutes every damn week.
3. Mathias Kiwanuka at #32 for the Jints? Ok, I know that Gappy Toof is winding down his great career and all but you drafted Justin Tuck last year. And you have Osi Umenyiora. And even though Gappy is about done he is still playing at a high level. I know all about having fastballs to throw at an offense, but there were other spots that should've been addressed at that spot. Namely finding a LT not named Luke Petitgout. But once again, lets thank another team for passing on Justice. The pickup of Sinorice Moss was nice since Toomer is about done. They have nothing other than Burress at the WR spot. Taylor and Tyree are nice players, but not #2's.
4. I liked the Jets first three picks (Brick, Mangold and Clemens) but why Schlegel in the 3rd? Why Eric Smith?
5. Davin Joseph 23rd overall? Does Bruce Allen and Jon Gruden have a clue? I've said this since those two got back together in Tampa and I don't think they do. Joseph is a nice player. But do you really need another OG, Gruden? You need an OT not named Kenyatta Walker. They did draft Jeremy Trueblood but I don't like him. I like the Stovall pick even though it ruined my night. I was hoping he'd slip to 108 for us.
6. I kinda like what the Rams did. They needed a guy like Tye Hill and if Wroten is mature enough then he will be a steal. Klopfenstein is nice too, but was Byrd really necessary?
7. Absolutely love what the 49ers did today. David, Lawson and Williams were solid picks.
8. Why did AJ Smith draft Charlie Whitehurst in the 3rd round when he has Rivers and Feeley? Don't worry, I'll answer this for you. Because he's a dope. Nice pickup in getting McNeill though. And he better hope Cromartie is ready to roll. I think he will be and if he is - he could be very, very good.
9. Santonio Holmes at #25 + Willie Reid and Anthony Smith? Solid job, Chin.
10. I think Roman Harper was a reach at 43 for NO.
11. The Pats pick of David Thomas puzzles me. You have Graham and Watson...why take Thomas? The Jackson pick was solid because they took him where he shouldve gone - in the 2nd round. And the Maroney pick was a little shocking, but Dillon could be getting close to being done. At least they have insurance now when/if Corey gets hurt.
12. I don't like the Vikings draft at all. No sir, don't like it.
13. Brodie Croyle was a solid pick for Herm and Carl Peterson. Hali was a little higher than expected and I though they should've gone DB there. And when they did go DB in the 2nd, I thought it was a tad high for Pollard. He can hit and he will help them, but they couldve take Darryl Tapp at 54 and then taken Jonathan Joseph in round 1.
14. Like the Addai pick a lot. Don't like the Jennings and Keiaho picks for Polian.
15. And finally, even though I could go on, I will end on the Texans draft. I absolutely love it so far. They get two solid OL back to back to start the 3rd. They get a stud DE in Super Mario and they get a solid LB in DeMeco Ryans. I've said from the jump that I didn't think they should take Reggie Bush and I still say that. They had much more pressing needs to be taken care of. The Winston and Spencer picks could be their best picks as far as value goes.

I agree. I thought the reports of them taking a RB in the early 2nd were downright silly, and I think it's good for them that they didn't. Great draft so far for them.
QuoteCZAR'S FRONT OFFICE TAKE: Brodrick Bunkley bench-pressed 225 pounds only 44 times. He also had a record 25 tackles for losses last season for Florida State, which has had three starters selected in the last six selections. Bunkley fits defensive coordinator Jim Johnson's scheme and he should be in the rotation this season at defensive tackle. The Eagles are still in the running to trade with the Packers for WR Javon Walker and maybe that's why Andy Reid passed on a receiver with this pick. Fans can expect on a run on defensive players now because that's where the best value is. Reid decided against USC OT Winston Justice, who has some character issues.
SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: Ah, after an annoying three minutes of a convoluted E-A-G-L- (still going) -E-S chant, the Jets fans revolt. After all, the J-E-T-S, JETS! JETS! chant is their bread and butter. Like Denise Richards and Heather Locklear bumping into each other at a Whole Foods, the two fan bases are forced to clash. The Jets fans quickly unite, mobilize, and rock Radio City Muic Hall with an "Eagles Suck" chant. But they're just getting started. This is THEIR city — we're a long way from the Liberty Bell and cheesesteaks. After some back and forth, the Jets fans drop the proverbial hammer-delivering a room-rocking "Terrell Owens, Terrell Owens" chant. The Eagles faithful have nothing to say in response. And with that, they select Brodrick Bunkley.

Ha!
According to ESPN, Reebok received 15,000 requests for #5 Saints Bush jerseys already. Bush is petitioning the league to be allowed to wear the number even though RBs aren't allowed to wear anything lower than #20....
The league should say no and I'd be shocked if they didn't. Bush is already acting like he's too big to follow the rules. Screw him.

Give him #39 - nice goofy number for a RB.

If they let him, then they have to let everyone. He can declare as a WR and wear #15, or he can shut his hole.

I agree they shouldn't change the rules just for him, but why not just get rid of number restrictions altogether?? There's really no reason to have them.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Either keep the rule for everyone, or abolish it for everyone.
Let Bunkley wear 52.

there is actually...it's to help the officials, especially with linemen and such...with eligible recievers...etc...
if you remove number restrictions...it would be really difficult for refs to determine eligible recievers.
although they have made some exceptions with Keyshawn #19
but they also denied Edgerrin James' request to wear #5 when he came up.

When exactly will Bunkley and Co. get issued there numbers.

A few league-wide draft observations by me:
I agree with Chicago, I think Sinorice Moss would've been a perfect fit there. They passed on him.
I disagree about the Texans though. I think Bush was unquestionably the right pick. RB isn't their most pressing need, but Bush doesn't come along every year. He impacts the game more than Mario does. They need defense badly, but they could address DE somewhere else or in next year's draft.
in a really good year mario williams will have 15 sacks and reggie bush will have 20 td's....whos the better pick

Bunkley can wear #52 in the NFL.
And the reason for the numbers is for the officials. Well, it used to be. Back in the day they restricted who could wear what numbers for the officials.
I hate WRs wearing #'s in the teens.
And when Keyshawn petitioned the NFL to wear #19, they let him.
And I bet they let Reggie Bush wear #5 too. They feel sorry for him because he didn't go #1.

So just restrict numbers in the 60s and 70s to OLs and no-one else...letting a RB or WR wear a number under 20 wouldn't confuse anyone, aside from the fact that no-one is going to confuse Reggie Bush with Max-Jean Gilles I'm pretty sure that QBs/Ks/Ps are eligible receivers anyway.
