Title: Offseason Boredom: Best Soundtracks
Post by: hbionic on April 04, 2006, 08:01:38 PM
Up until the last five years or so, I didn't really pay attention to how good soundtracks could be.

My most recent soundtrack purchases have been 'A life aquatic' and the soundtrack from 'Frida'.

Both are pretty dope. I guess you could say that most movies have a pretty good soundtracks...anyways select your top 5 and top 2 songs from each. (this unofficial poll is being conducted for my own musical benefit).

I love the soundtrack to To Live and Die in L.A. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090180/), by Wang Chung.

Rushmore
Until the End of the World
Say Anything
Repo Man
Pulp Fiction
Resevoir Dogs
When We Were Kings
Crooklyn
Judgement Night
The Mission
Last Temptation of Christ
Pump Up the Volume
Romeo and Juliet
The Harder They Come
Garden State
High Fidelity.

Off the top of my head.

edit:  I originally put Passion of the Christ.  I meant the Peter Gabriel soundtrack to Last Temptation.  The soundtrack to GIbson's lark was atrocious.

Now that I think about it, 8 Mile soundtrack is pretty kick ass and so was Cradle 2 The Grave.

Actually, Sarah Brightman's version of "Il Mio Cuore Va" kicks Celine's ass.   :paranoid

Best soundtrack ever!

The best song ever from a soundtrack is "You're the Best Around" from the Karate Kid soundtrack.

tarantino movies always got weird, but good unconventional music.  pulp fiction and kill bills pretty good.

The only way to resolve this predicament is for you two to kickbox to the death.

Heat

In fact, one of the most powerful moments for me was the run-up and then shootout of the bodged robbery....

LOL, when I read the title of this thread, and who started it....all I could think of was that the first post was going to be Broadway showtunes.

Thought of a couple more:

- The Crow
- Blues Brothers
- Goodfellas

The Crow was a GREAT soundtrack. I used to listen to it all of the time.

"Singles" is another great one.

"Space Jam" had a successful soundtrack with 3 hit pop songs:

-- "Fly Like An Eagle" by Seal
-- "I Believe I Can Fly" by R.Kelly
-- "For You I Will" by Monica

Wow... cool topic.

I'll post five (plus a bonus) here:

1. "A Hard Day's Night."  Great movie and an even better soundtrack.  The Beatles set the standard.

2. "Superfly."  Curtis Mayfield kickin' it.  The definition of 70's soul music.  Great movie too.

3. "The Big Chill."  Not a great movie but the soundtrack was badass.

4. "The Graduate."  A great movie.  I'm not wild about Simon & Garfunkel but the music here is incredible.

5. "Purple Rain."  A really stupid movie.  However, Prince was a bad ass purple midget and anyone between the ages of 35-50 who says they didn't have this CD is lying.  Morris Day & The Time were awesome on this disc as well.

5a. "Rock & Roll High School."  The Ramones +  PJ Soles = farging awesome movie.  I loved the scene where Joey sings a punk love song to PJ Soles.  You can practically smell the marijuana and taste the cocaine oozing off the screen in that scene.

:yay
