QuoteWIP fires Mike Missanelli after fight
By Michael Klein
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
WIP-AM (610) today announced the firing of midday host Mike Missanelli for "violating company policy."
While the sports talk station would not specify the policy, insiders point to a fight with a producer during a live broadcast Friday.
Missanelli was set off by technical difficulties in the St. Patrick's Day show, which aired from Brownie's 23 East in Ardmore.
No word of his absence was mentioned on the air today by cohost Anthony Gargano, who was on with Eagles alum Hugh Douglas.
Missanelli had been on a short leash of late. In October, Missanelli apologized after a heated phone interview with Eagles kicker David Akers. A few weeks later, Missanelli and morning host Angelo Cataldi went at it in the studio.
Missanelli did not return a phone call this afternoon.
This means less than nothing to me, but it evoked 3 laughing smilies from phreak so it must be awesome.
Indeed.
Missanelli is a prick. He was fired from WMMR and now WIP. I'm glad to see the farg lost his job.
He's a Lawyer thats all you need to know why hes a prick.
Good, now he can spend more time in his other job as Moderator4 on the EMB.
:yay
All we need now is for (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a30/dawkinsdarthcore/burgerking_150.jpg) to be fired!
Mom told me when he worked for WMMR he was always difficult. He's also an attorney so maybe he could go back into law.
as much as he is an ass, he makes me laugh, regardless of how much he bashes the eagles.
he's teaching sports law somewhere anyway, so he's not gonna go hungry.

Or 11. Whatever works out for him.
He's on SportsFinal now. He picked up Eskins scraps there after they kicked him off. Wonder if he'll say anything about it next week.
WIP should hire me. Someone get me an application

Bash the birds? He outright hates them. They can do no right in his eyes.
Bring back Steve Martorano and MAYBE I'll listen from 11-3 again.
this is a terrible move. Missanelli is great, he has stong opinions so people who don't agree with him, hate him. but i've always liked what he did. Martorano was terrible, the stupid, "i'm old and wise" schtick was awful.
he is a complete dickhead...but he made great radio...the station is definitely worse without him
:yay :yay

you would actually like missanelli. you should have heard him go off on akers for his crying during the oakland game. called him a drama queen and whatnot.
thats is so true....in fact rjs might be missanelli
that was great radio when akers called in and they went at each other. my favorite wip moment of the year.

haha, you could be onto something
If only rjs understood how much you guys were insulting him right now, he'd be furious!
He wouldn't do anything about it, but the anger would be there anyway!
i didnt even know he was back on the air. then again, i dont listen to the radio during day time hours. only in the car
Should I actually be insulted for agreeing with someone who makes fun of a kicker for crying like a bitch after a an early season win against an inferior team? I would submit that I should not.
as you shouldn't, akers deserved it.
You'd have to trust me that you wouldn't agree with Missanelli more often than you would.
so they fired one of the two meatheads on that mid-day show. sweet. now all they have to do is fire the other meathead, the guy with the annoying loud drunk voice in the morning, and the jerk-off in the afternoon and maybe i'll listen to that station.

i'm sure they are in meetings desperately trying to find ways to get you back.
The dude sounds like an angry jackass who doesn't want to hear about grown men crying. So far I like.
he made good radio. most people here would rather hear grown men slop on andy reid's dong for 3 hours in the afternoon.
Listening to a bunch of grown men bitch and moan about everything when you could be listening to Slayer is sickening. All of you punch yourself in the mangina.

QuoteAFTER HIS second physical altercation with a co-worker in four months, 610 WIP's Mike Missanelli was fired yesterday by the sports-talk station.
Sources say Missanelli, 50, hit part-time WIP producer Brian Robbins after the two men argued during a live remote broadcast Friday at Brownie's 23 East (23 E. Lancaster Ave.) in Ardmore.
Station bossMarc Rayfieldconfirmed that Missanelli had been terminated, but offered no further comment. By 7 last night all mentions of Missanelli had been yanked from 610WIP.com.
Missanelli was absent yesterday from the daytime show he had been co-hosting with Anthony Gargano. Reached yesterday afternoon, Missanelli told us the day off was scheduled and he denied being involved in a physical altercation on Friday.
"I am unaware of any altercation," Missanelli repeated several times during a five-minute chat.
Robbins, who sources say is in his 20s, could not be reached for comment last night.
Missanelli, a former Inqwaster reporter who holds a law degree from Widener, worked at WIP from 1992 to 2003, then left to work at 93.3 WMMR-FM. He was fired in April 2004, 14 months into a two-year contract, and returned to WIP last June.
In December, we reported that Missanelli had grabbed morning host Angelo Cataldiduring an on-air argument in the WIP studio. Missanelli denied that it had gotten physical; Cataldi would not discuss it.
Well, shtein. My respect for him went up since he grabbed Cataldi. But I'm still glad he was shtein canned.
Punching a producer? Dudes got issues.

ironically thats what the king does...hes an eagle apologist on par with even pg
the reason i liked mikey miss is that he was just a regular cat who had very strong opinions...you could see yourself sitting at a table playing cards with him and talking sports music movies politics whatever...and you also could see yourself coming over that same table and choking him...not much different than me and any of my friends
i've been listening today, Hugh is awful on the radio.
and of course, in the world of radio, when you're fired, you're erased, no mention of Mikey Miss whatsoever.
since this thread is sort of radio related, does anyone listen to Kidd Chris in the afternoons? that show is farging awesome.
PROVOLONE

Holy crap, that is the worst show EVER. 94.1 is a disgrace filling the whole day with that crap instead of music.

They should fire Rhea next.
That would please me.
You need to get her to fight somebody.

You busy tomorrow?
I was thinking more along the lines of Dei Lynam. Now that would be a cat fight train wreck to the nth degree.
Dei has some big cans.
The battle of annoying chick broadcasters.
Is Leslie Gudel in there somewhere?
I sound just like her.

from foot in mouth to relieved nervous laughter
:-D :-D
it's a requirment to work for CSN...you must have a lisp.
He swung on his producer? What the hell.
i miss miss
not enough yelling
i miss miss
holla
pour one out for mikey miss tonight
QuoteWIP hires Martorano; he'll start Tuesday
By Michael Klein
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
Steve Martorano will start Tuesday on sports-talk WIP-AM (610) with his former midday partner, Anthony Gargano.
The station had a spot to fill since the March 20 firing of Mike Missanelli, two days after an altercation with a producer over a technical snafu on a remote broadcast.
Martorano and Gargano were paired for two years until last June, when station management decided to let Martorano's contract expire. The station brought in Missanelli.
The deal is for two years, with an option for a third.
Martorano wouldn't disclose his salary, but he sounded happy this afternoon.
awful decision, the worst possible.
hell be fired in two years and replaced by missinelli
Yes! Steve is back! The one show I actually enjoy listening to was those two.
agree....although he gets a little out of hand with his words....he does brings more of a psychological approach in the way of making of specific moves and what not. I like it
he's a farging old guy who thinks he knows everything because he's old. the only way that show would be entertaining is if during one of his pretenious old-head speeches, he'd fall over with a massive heart attack live on the air.
Steve is the opposite of egotistical.
You are thinking about Steve Fredericks, not Martorano. Martorano is humble and just plain cool.

i know exactly who i am talking about. i'd listen to Steve Fredericks with down syndrome before Martorano.
Your opinion is wrong.

right...
"He's humble and just plain cool" is much more on point. well done.
I listened to that show quite often. Steve has no ego.
Talk radio as of late is so very unlistenable. I get old listening to it now. Same shtein...people complaining about shtein, praising somone or something...whatever, whatever, whatever...its like its all on a loop. I used to care...now I dont. And you all cared to read this, so shove it! >:(
Another reason why I don't listen to WIP like I used to.
They recycle the same people in and out.
This was the perfect opportunity to get fresh blood in there and they failed.
Martorano was OK. Better than Mikey Miss though.
I've been listening to Jody Mac a lot on the way home these last two weeks. Very refreshing.

Satelitte is the future, whether you like XM or Sirius it doesn't matter, they're both worth the measly $13 a month. There's almost too much content to listen to.
am the only one who plugs in his ipod and listens to that in the car? in the end, its probably cheaper.

Nope, when I want to listen to a certain song I do the same thing. I prefer satellite because of the variety of stations available. Plus the talk shows are uncensored and fantastic.
I listen to Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio in the morning (not locally available after 7am), and The Show on MLB on XM going to and from work.
When I'm just driving around, I listen to Top Tracks, Deep Tracks, Bluesville.
Love the MLB package. Even heard Harry the K calling the Phils once this season. That alone was worth the $13 for the month. :yay
